New ‘Wolverine’ Game Gets Slammed with 60s from Major Reviewers — 5ch: ‘That’s a 78 EVEN WITH the Score Manipulation’

From our other sites

The story

Insomniac Games’ new title *Marvel’s Wolverine* has launched with a Metacritic score of 78. But look at the breakdown: major outlets like IGN and VGC all gave it low scores around 60, while an obscure site’s perfect 100 score dragged the average up. This gap became a hot topic on 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board, where posters piled on with specific complaints — pointless QTE sequences, glitchy character models, and more.

Turns out all the veteran big-name sites gave it low scores, while some mystery site bombed it with a 100 to pull the average up to around 70
60 — IGN
60 — VGC

If that's 78 even WITH the manipulation… this must be really bad…

Re: #11
Exactly
This is a genuinely, certifiably bad game

This is the type where the user score ends up higher (than the critic score)

Re: #16
O-oh…
It got roasted hard when the gameplay footage dropped, but I hope it lands well with actual players…

Isn't the ceiling in your house kinda low? (i.e., your standards are low)

Just go buy the game already, come on
27AnonymousSep 11, 2026 07:45
By the way, did they ever fix that glitch where the mannequins stand around in a circle huddle?
28AnonymousSep 11, 2026 07:45
It's not that there was no manipulation —
it's a 78 EVEN WITH the manipulation

A terrifying truth

Sounds like they took Spider-Man, made the character bland, and killed the fun traversal, right?
Yeah, that's gonna be pretty mediocre
40AnonymousSep 11, 2026 07:49
Re: #37
Strip the traversal/movement out of a Spider-Man game and of course it turns into garbage

Re: #1
60 is too high a score to call 'extremely low'

Re: #41
A major review site scoring a major publisher's game a 60?
That's basically a zero in disguise

[Good News] Wolverine's QTEs Turned Out to Be Completely Pointless ♥

Marvel's Wolverine has quick time events in some scenes — except it turns out you don't actually need to press the button to clear them.

Whether you press it or not, nothing changes. This is making me lose my mind.

Re: #64

People are trolling it with 'this controller would be enough' (image of a controller with basically one button)

Re: #71
The gameplay's more shallow than stuff from the Famicom (NES) era

Re: #71
Even a single button might be too hard for Sony fanboys (note: 'ソにー' is a mocking misspelling of Sony)
83AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:06
– Completely linear
– QTEs you don't even need to press
– Luxuriously hairy arms

Wow… now THIS is a god-tier game (sarcasm)

That's like two strikes already, huh? (baseball metaphor for 'almost done for')

Every single time a fight ends, Wolverine mutters to himself, 'Red, where the hell are you?!' just to point the player toward the next objective.

This happens constantly, nonstop, throughout the whole game. It's so bad it feels like you're being mocked.

A game made for kindergartners
Fits the PlayStation userbase perfectly
97AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:13
Western reviewers usually eat up anything with full-HD blood spray and dismemberment gore, so if it's still scoring this low,
the actual gameplay must be a genuine disaster
100AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:14
Re: #97
Yeah, this is the game where the whole world went 'uh oh' the second the gameplay footage dropped
104AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:17
All the major outlets landing on 60 across the board is genuinely rough…
108AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:18
So what specifically was bad about it?
Is it just plain not fun?
110AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:19
Re: #108
There aren't any major bugs or glitches, so it's a case of the game just being purely boring
115AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:21
Re: #110
Seriously sucks that Insomniac keeps getting stuck with nothing but Marvel work
118AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:22
Re: #115
They even had Arc System Works make Marvel Tokon 😄
117AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:21
IGN gave even Concord a 70, but Wolverine only gets 60 — that's hilarious
132AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:26
Re: #117
Sorry, haven't played it myself, but
I heard Concord was solid gameplay-wise apart from the character designs
So maybe it's not actually a bad game?
119AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:22
Wait, you guys actually trust garbage like IGN?
121AnonymousSep 11, 2026 08:23
Re: #119
If it were just IGN scoring it low, sure, but ALL the major outlets are low 🥺

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

*Marvel’s Wolverine* is an action game developed by Insomniac Games. A Metacritic score is an average of scores from multiple outlets, so the overall impression can shift a lot depending on the breakdown — and that’s exactly what happened here. Major outlets like IGN and VGC scored it around 60, while a high score from an obscure site appears to have pulled the average up, and that gap is what fueled speculation of ‘score manipulation.’ That said, no one in the thread actually presented evidence of manipulation — it remains pure speculation on 5ch’s part, so that should be kept in mind. The claim that the QTEs (quick time events) don’t respond to button input traces back to a social media post, and posters cited it as one more data point on the game’s overall polish. AAA titles are generally expected to land around 80 on Metacritic, so a score in the 60s counts as a relatively harsh verdict — which is likely what drove the reaction in the thread.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “Wolverine’s Metacritic Is 78, But Every Major Outlet Rated It Super Low 🤣www“.
