The story
A thread went up on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board about Sony’s showcase. According to the thread, a string of unfavorable topics all broke on the same day: a sharp drop in ratings for Tokon, a scaled-back rollout for physical disc versions, the departure of the ‘Persona’ series producer, and Hideo Kojima’s exit from his project. Posters argued the news was more ‘shocking’ than any Nintendo Direct announcement, with some predicting the backlash overseas would be even worse — the thread filled up with sarcastic back-and-forth.
What people said

SME's earnings weren't anything special, yet they're charging full steam ahead with expansion.
Wonder what's going on over at SIE.
There's still more fun to be had.
Did they announce this early because the director's going to show up there?
It would've hyped things up way more to save it for there.
The bit where the PS logo turns into the Xbox logo, lol
These past two days of entertainment, we owe it all to Sony lol
yeah, this might actually have more impact than the Direct.
I'll admit defeat, honestly.
They've clearly given up on a PS6 at this point.
It wasn't after the Direct, it was before.
(As of one day before the Direct, the setup was 'that news drops in a few hours.')
Apparently it started as a troll tweet made just to bait PS fanboys for laughs.
They ended up publicly exposing the fanboys who fell for it.
So the Kojima-kan leak came right after that — guess words really do have power (kotodama, the idea that words carry spiritual force).
The idiots who got baited and gloated over it got mocked with 'if that were real, they'd have announced it in a State of Play' — and then it came true in the worst possible way. Just adding insult to injury.
Rumor is the one on the far right is getting fired too, lol
King Bonbi (the poverty god from Momotaro Dentetsu) Kojima: 'Don't run.'
Took a quick look, and yeah, it's genuinely a mess out there.
The whole disc-discontinuation thing isn't even settled yet,
and now it's 'actually, we'd already quietly dropped it.'
No wonder it just reeks of them pulling out.
A little late, but now it makes sense.
That was just a troll post.
It was a joke, and then this massive genuine disaster actually happened.
Background and key points
On the Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, posts that pit Sony and Nintendo’s announcements against each other to stir up rivalry are a regular occurrence, and this time too, Tokon’s reception, the handling of disc versions, and the movements of well-known staff are all being framed as ‘the announcement that was supposed to crush the Nintendo Direct.’ At the same time, some posts in the thread point out that the earlier rumor of a ‘major announcement’ was itself just a joke meant to bait PlayStation fans, making it hard to tell from the thread alone how much is fact and how much is just needling. The source of attached images like the stock chart also can’t be verified from the text, so it’s safest to treat the numbers and rumors here as unverified reference material rather than primary sources.
