‘Beast of Reincarnation’ Sales Figures Still Unannounced

The story

Sales of Beast of Reincarnation, a completely new title that Game Freak spent roughly six years developing, have become a hot topic on 5ch after the company still hasn’t announced official sales figures even long after launch. The contrast with Capcom’s Onimusha, released around the same time and hitting one million units on day one, drew a string of comments in the thread pointing out that the game seems to be struggling. Posters also discussed the studio’s move away from Nintendo platforms to release on PlayStation, raised doubts about Game Freak’s abilities apart from Pokémon, and debated how the studio’s development resources should be spent.

Onimusha hit a million units on day one — what about you, Game Freak?
2AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:57
Wasn't it six years Game Freak spent making Beast of Reincarnation? Why did it flop?
4AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:58
Re: #2
Probably because nobody's buying it.
3AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:57
Still no announcement of how many hundred thousand — or million — units it's sold.
5AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:58
They really need to accept by now that their non-Pokémon games just don't sell.
99AnonymousSep 9, 2026 19:21
Re: #5
I heard it was meant to train up junior producers and directors, so they never expected it to actually sell.

Re: #5
It's fine, they can put Pokémon's profits toward making other games.
6AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:58
Next to Onimusha, this looks PS2-level.
7AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:58
No way, Game Freak… (´・ω・`)
8AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:58
A company that can't do anything without leaning on Pokémon.
9AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:58
Game Freak seems to have the wrong idea about themselves.
It sells because of the Pokémon brand — your company itself has no appeal.
11AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:59
Wild that they poured resources into a garbage bomb like this.

With six years they could've made one or two Pokémon spin-offs instead.
12AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:00
Funny how they left Pokémon Scarlet/Violet's bugs to rot but scrambled to patch Reincarnation the very same day, lol.
13AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:00
If they had time to make this garbage, they should've been putting out a Pokémon game instead.
14AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:00
They went to all the trouble of betraying Nintendo to release on PlayStation, and nobody even came to help them?
15AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:00
Elden Ring flopped on Switch 2 too — turns out Nintendo/Pokémon fans and Soulslike fans just don't overlap at all.
16AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:00
Do they really have the resources to spare on a flop game…?
18AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:01
A grab-bag of stuff you've seen in other games, except they never learned the actual feel that made those other games good. A total dud.
21AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:02
If Wind Wave turns out to be low quality too on top of this, it's going to get absolutely trashed.
31AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:07
Re: #21
Well, if they had people to spare for something like this, that's exactly the kind of thing that gets them slammed.
27AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:04
If they want to make an AAA game…
42AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:11
Re: #27
Posted that before I finished typing.
If they want to make an AAA game, they should make a Pokémon game that's somewhere between full photorealism and something like the Ocarina of Time remake —
realistic backgrounds, characters in an in-between style, and 60 FPS.
If they have the tech, it should be doable.
29AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:06
So this was made by the people who couldn't cut it as Pokémon staff — is that about right?
41AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:11
Re: #29
Unfortunately the mainline Pokémon games are trash too, so Game Freak as a whole is garbage.
47AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:18
Betray Nintendo and end up like this, huh.
48AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:19
Re: #47
'Betray' — scary word choice. Sounds like you've sworn loyalty to Nintendo or something.
52AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:22
Game Freak: 'It's the Switch's fault we can't do what we want!!! Let us make an AAA game!!!!!!!'

The result: 😂
69AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:35
It's still #12 in active players on Xbox — a new record for a Japanese Game Pass title, being played more than Persona or Ninja Gaiden. Meanwhile the Halo remake that the desperate Sony-bashers were hyping up has already dropped to #25, lol.
82AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:58
Re: #69
Wait, Xbox actually shows active player counts? I didn't think any home console ('家ゴミ,' a derisive nickname for consoles) had that feature.
71AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:40
If they're going to spend Pokémon's profits on stuff like this, I'd rather they just put that money back into Pokémon.
74AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:43
Re: #71
The leaked data already showed they barely get any development budget from Pokémon. Since Pokémon isn't turning a profit for them, they made Reincarnation to generate their own revenue.
88AnonymousSep 9, 2026 19:05
Never expected a company that's made games for Nintendo for so many years to turn around and make a crappy game with nothing going for it but graphics — the kind Nintendo fans hate.
91AnonymousSep 9, 2026 19:11
Re: #88
From Game Freak's perspective, maybe it's fine since it lets them measure who actually has talent?

Better than letting someone fester inside the company spreading poison —
if you let them try and they fail, it gets awkward for them too,
and above all, it confronts them with reality in the clearest way possible.
98AnonymousSep 9, 2026 19:20
Checked the wiki and Game Freak has actually put out a ton of non-Nintendo games since the '80s, but aside from the Mario-series subcontract work, I don't recognize a single one of them.
Guess Pokémon really was their one and only hit.

Re: #98
Wasn't Drill Dozer ('どりるれろ') a Game Freak game too? I feel like that one got a decent amount of buzz.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Game Freak is best known as the studio behind the Pokémon series, but this title is one of the company’s rare completely original IPs, reportedly taking around six years to develop. Around materials said to have leaked in the past, speculation has circulated among fans that Pokémon’s profits aren’t being sufficiently returned to Game Freak — and some see this release as an attempt to secure an independent revenue stream through the studio’s own IP. Titles that don’t get an official sales-figure announcement after launch are, generally speaking, often ones that underperformed, and the contrast with Capcom’s Onimusha — released around the same time and touting a concrete figure of one million units sold on day one — sharpened reactions in the thread. Within the thread, opinions split between a more sympathetic view (“the point was to train up junior producers and directors, so a huge hit was never the goal”) and a more critical one (“this is a company that can’t function without the Pokémon brand”). It should be noted that, as of this writing, no official figures for sales or development costs have been announced, so any numbers floated in the thread remain speculation.
