me:I’s Agency Files Disclosure Request Against Online Slanderer, Hello! Project Fans Say ‘UP-FRONT Should Too’

From our other sites

The story

LAPONE, the agency behind idol group me:I, filed a request to disclose the identity of someone who posted defamatory content about the group online — and it’s become a hot topic on Hello! Project fan message boards.

Fans have been flooding the thread with calls for UP-FRONT, which manages Hello! Project, to take the same action. The discussion also touched on specific accounts seen as the worst offenders for slander, and on how much compensation such a disclosure request could realistically bring in.

Please do it.
2AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:31
Wouldn't be surprised if someone from the agency itself posts on the Wolf board (a notorious anonymous idol-gossip forum) too.
3AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:31
Hello!'s complaint accounts (anonymous 'venting' accounts on Twitter/X) can go to hell too.
30AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:01
Re: #3
Haven't seen many complaint accounts around lately, have you?
6AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:33
Before that, quit stirring up conflicts with members that get them to leave the group.
9AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:35
There are some seriously creepy people on the Wolf board.
If they come off that creepy just from their posts online, they must be way worse in real life…
12AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:39
UP-FRONT should at least disclose 'Asahi Geezer' (a notorious poster nicknamed for his Asahi Net address)
He's behind like 90% of the slander against Hello! Project members.
15AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:46
Exactly.
If you're gonna drop nasty borderline put-downs, just stay holed up on 5ch.
16AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:48
I want UP-FRONT to at least take action against the ones whose real names and addresses are already known.
18AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:48
Well, if it's just someone spamming posts on the Wolf board where the agency can't see it, I guess that's… whatever.
49AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:27
Re: #18
That'd be fine, but there are idiots who play self-appointed pundit — dragging stuff that would've stayed buried on the Wolf board out into the open on X just to make a big public statement about their feelings.
19AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:49
If you're really just venting, 2ch is more than enough — they just can't quit the rush of racking up likes.
21AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:49
I wish they'd done this back when Ran was still in the group.
23AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:50
Re: #20
Already contacted UP-FRONT!
Expect a response any minute now!
25AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:54
Disclose the person behind 'Hello! Project Update' too!
28AnonymousAug 23, 2026 11:55
Apparently a disclosure order came down on the 21st.
Supposedly it covers anonymous accounts too.
29AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:00
Lawyers are having a field day with the disclosure-request business these days, so I bet UP-FRONT jumps in too.
31AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:01
The amount of slander doesn't even match how popular they are.
33AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:02
I'll pay a reward to whoever identifies the 'ASAHI Net' guy.
40AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:09
Aren't these damn antis getting way too cocky?
42AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:14
For content infringement, if you contest the damages basis, it usually nets just a few tens of thousands of yen.
Defamation can go up to 3 million yen, but realistically it'll land around 300,000.
43AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:20
In Hello! Project's case, the ones slandering Hello! Project are none other than UP-FRONT's own people, so nobody's getting punished.
46AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:23
Hello! Project doesn't even need to file disclosure requests — everyone already knows it's the Hello! fans themselves slandering the members lol
57AnonymousAug 23, 2026 12:42
Re: #49
Never seen that.
That's all in your head.
68AnonymousAug 23, 2026 13:11
Re: #57
There are plenty of accounts — basically walking bundles of approval-seeking — who 'worry' about the slander on the Wolf board while unwittingly helping spread it further by bringing it up on X lol
66AnonymousAug 23, 2026 13:09
This kind of trigger-happy management just ends up treated like a hot potato and loses fans.
Same way a tattletale gets frozen out by everyone.

Re: #66
What are you talking about, everyone does this nowadays.

Background and Key Points

LAPONE is the talent agency (a joint venture between Yoshimoto Kogyo and Korea’s JYP Entertainment) that produced me:I through the 2022–23 survival show “Produce 101 Japan The Girls.” Hello! Project, by contrast, is UP-FRONT’s much older idol franchise, built around Morning Musume since 1997 and encompassing over a dozen groups across nearly three decades — long enough to have accumulated a correspondingly deep well of message-board rumor and member-related scandal. Disclosure requests (発信者情報開示請求) compel a platform or ISP to hand over an anonymous poster’s identifying information so the target can pursue defamation damages; a 2022 revision to Japan’s Provider Liability Limitation Act streamlined this into a single non-litigious court procedure, which is part of why agencies have gotten faster and more willing to file them.

The thread didn’t converge on “UP-FRONT should sue” so much as split over whether Hello! Project’s slander problem is even what it appears to be — several posters (43, 46, 68) argued the loudest “concerned” accounts and even some slander itself originate from within the fandom or agency-adjacent circles, not outside antagonists, which undercuts the idea that disclosure requests would target a clean enemy.

What’s likely to be missed: a disclosure request doesn’t equal a payout or a public shaming. Post 42’s estimate — a realistic settlement around ¥300,000 rather than the ¥3 million statutory ceiling — is closer to the norm, and legal fees can erode much of that, meaning these filings are often as much a deterrent signal as a moneymaker.
