The story
On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, a video applying NVIDIA’s latest upscaling technology “DLSS5” to GTA5 has become a hot topic. In the posted YouTube footage, buildings and lighting are dramatically transformed, with some commenters saying it holds up to — or even surpasses — leaked GTA6 footage. The thread grew from questions like “Isn’t DLSS5 supposed to be NVIDIA-exclusive?” into a technical debate over how well AMD-chip hardware like the PS5 and Switch2 could actually support it. Commenters also weighed in on the price of the PC needed to reproduce the visuals, and the steep frame-rate drops involved.
Wait, isn’t this basically GTA7 lmaooooooo

What people said
What are you talking about? DLSS is NVIDIA's technology, it has nothing to do with AMD
Apparently DLSS5 runs on INT8, so it actually works on AMD cards too
Though you can imagine how the performance is
Switch2 will only support up to DLSS4
How the hell are you gonna get DLSS working on an AMD chip lol
Don't make me laugh
Do you even know whose standard DLSS is before saying that?
DLSS5 even turns Assetto Corsa, a racing game that came out 13 years ago, into what looks like a completely different game
This is wild too, that's not the Assetto Corsa ("Asecoru" for short) I know
For AC and sports games alike, all the good mods have gone subscription-only these days, which is a bit much
These modders are probably out-earning the game devs' salaries…
But it genuinely feels like playing a different game, and that part's fun
You'd just use MFG (frame generation) for that normally…
Even GTA6's leaks show the motions haven't really improved much, so…
Nah, they've increased it to like 11x compared to 5, so that's not true
Official footage is already out — why are you still talking about leaks?
A lot of what's in Re: #1, like the buildings, is still just stock GTA5 assets
The sky rendering was amazing back then, but looking at it now it's really not great
If they put out an aerial flyover video, the sloppy detail work would be obvious instantly
It's like an artisan rice ball (onigiri) — obsessing over details past a point is just diminishing returns
They already went all-out on that back in the PS4 era
That's exactly why people call it GTA5.5
Wake me up when a mod makes it run light on an RDNA3 GPU…
I'd just posted Re: #47 right before that
so I thought that reply was aimed at me. My bad
Exactly
This is a rich man's hobby
600,000 yen doesn't even come close to being enough
Looks like Switch2 is doing its best with DLSS too
Saw a video where PS2, Dreamcast, and PS3 games looked like completely different titles
Isn't that fake? Surely that can't be real
Right now basketball is the only officially supported one — everything else is just mods reflecting individual taste
DLSS lets you pick presets to match your own preference and setup, so just use whichever one you like
It'll probably kill the mood precisely because it doesn't behave like reality
First it needs to shed that bad kind of "gamey" feeling
Once it gets this realistic
the motion needs to lean realistic too, or it just looks ridiculous
More like a low-power microwave, I'd say
That's RDNA4-exclusive, and it's the kind of thing that tanks GTA5 from 80fps down to 11fps…
Yeah, it really just comes down to the fact that it runs on Radeon at all
What else were you expecting?
Running my 5090 with ray tracing off in Wuthering Waves (鳴潮), comfortable at 4K SRP 120fps
Then why'd you even come into this thread?
Background and key points of this topic
DLSS is an AI upscaling/frame-generation technology developed by NVIDIA, and DLSS5, the subject of this thread, is its latest generation. Some comments in the thread claim things like “PS5 and Switch2 support DLSS,” but these consoles use AMD chips, and since DLSS is fundamentally an NVIDIA-exclusive technology, getting it to run — as replies 6 and 71 point out — requires special workarounds (such as running in INT8), and even then comes with significant performance trade-offs. AMD has its own equivalent technology called FSR, and it’s easy for information conflating the two to spread on social media and in videos, which is a point readers can easily get confused about. It’s also worth noting that the footage shown in the thread comes from individual mods and demos, and isn’t directly comparable to the finished quality of GTA6 itself. The discussion mainly broke down into three points: whether the visual leap is genuine, how practical this is on AMD hardware, and how steep the required PC investment is.
