The story
A newly released trailer shows the Great Sword using “Boost Action,” a new system tied to “Ascension,” the expansion believed to be coming to Capcom’s hit action title Monster Hunter Wilds. On 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board, reactions were mixed: some users were excited for the stylish new moves, while others said the animation still feels dragged down by Wilds’ original sluggish combat, raised concerns over the director being replaced by someone from the Exoprimal team, and worried about monsters being recycled. The game’s sales also became a talking point, having reached 11.4 million units sold one year after launch.

What people said
new maps with the ecosystem stripped out to make it run lighter,
a few new monsters,
and… that's it?
Would be fun if it were broken like that
Guess that's just how it has to be with the Great Sword?
If so, there's at least a tiny bit of hope.
Yeah, it's the Exoprimal guy though
Means the 'poison spider' scurried off somewhere (nickname for a former staffer)
Wilds had such a gloomy atmosphere.
Being able to enjoy literally anything is a talent, I guess.
This.
The skill system especially is a disaster.
Otherwise it just comes off as 'that's all you've got?'
We don't need any more octopuses, monkeys, or spiders.
Nah, they already spent the effort modeling that octopus skeleton, so expect 2 or 3 more variants using it
Guess that's completely out the window now.
The Slinger was already kind of a toy to begin with
Should've said that back when World added the Slinger and Iceborne added the Clutch Claw.
This is the price of coddling players all this time.
Better than a health gauge that goes haywire whenever a big attack is incoming, but still lame…
We'll talk after that.
Turns out it's just 'charge it up while guarding'…
Gunlance mains live in constant fear of getting nerfed with every patch
says it all.
Same here.
I'm never buying another Monster Hunter from the Fujioka-Tokuda combo (a fan nickname combining two developers' names)
■ Feb 2025: 8 million units (hit in 3 days after launch)
■ Mar 2025: 10 million units (1 month after launch, fastest pace ever)
■ Mar 2026: 11.4 million units (growth has slowed considerably since launch)
That's like 170,000 units in 3 months — 'slowed' doesn't even begin to cover it…
The Third Prince's Curse (a running community joke)
Hammer was solidly upper-mid tier in Sunbreak, damn it 😡
Even though it's dead last in popularity 🥺
Hoping Ascension pulls the same trick, though it might not.
Yeah, it was straight-up garbage, total dumpster fire back then
It got mocked nonstop as 'runny garbage' back then, lol
People really are rewriting their own memories
The glasses crew needs to just admit Ichinose's take was better.
If you're bringing back XX, bring back Aerial style too
Ah I see — since it's coming to Switch 2 as well, that's why they're throwing in more Generations/Rise-style elements
Background and Key Points of Discussion
The Monster Hunter series has a history of adding new action mechanics with each expansion or major update, and this new “Boost Action” system fits that pattern. Opinions in the thread split over how the Great Sword moves in the video — some felt it looked less than snappy for a supposedly new feature and still weighed down by Wilds’ base-game feel, while others argued this was just a partial preview and shouldn’t be judged too harshly. The thread also touched on a possible change in the development team, though the specifics of roles and circumstances couldn’t be confirmed within the thread and remain speculative. As for the sales figures, comparing the strong initial launch pace to the more recent numbers can make growth look like it’s stalling, but it’s also fairly typical for major titles to see sales growth slow down several months after release.
