CS “Ladder-Hopping” Autocorrected to “Chair,” Joke Falls Flat — 5ch: “Taking the Bait Seriously lol”

From our other sites

The story

In a chat thread on 5ch’s “Live: Anything Goes” board, a post about “ladder-hopping” (梯子, hashigo) — entering multiple Duel Masters store tournaments (“CS”) in one day — got autocorrected to “chair” (椅子, isu), sparking a split among posters over whether the joke actually landed. From there the conversation drifted into ribbing regulars for still playing card games as adults, a story about a girlfriend’s birthday gift of a card box turning out to duplicate cards the poster had already bought as singles on release day, and finally lunch photos and news about a new Hololive gacha, as the chat rambled on.

Re: #97
Duel Masters' Championship Series.
It means a tournament held at a store.
You "ladder" between them.

Re: #99
"Chair" them? What's that supposed to mean?
107AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:24
Re: #105
If you don't clear the qualifiers at the first CS, you head to the next CS venue and enter a second one.

Re: #105
There are actually people who don't get what "ladder-hopping" means?😱
112AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:25
Well, there are people who can't even read the kanji for "hashigo" (梯子, ladder), you know.

Taking a joke seriously lol

Re: #112
That's not even one of the standard-use school kanji, is it?
Writing it out as "hashigo suru" in kana is what a proper working adult would do.
119AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:27
I just brain-dead typed "chair" without thinking, and the joke not landing kind of deflated me.
125AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:28
Re: #119
Right, that's exactly it.
127AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:29

And what's your hobby and age, then?

Re: #127
In the last thread some guy who's never had a girlfriend despite his age was losing it, so yeah, that says it all.

146AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:30
It's because you're playing card games that you can't get a girlfriend.
156AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:32
Re: #146
I've got a girlfriend, actually — she just doesn't know much about card games.
She once gave me a booster box for my birthday,
but since I'd already collected a full playset (4 copies) of the singles online on release day, it left me with mixed feelings.

Re: #156
Sorry, can you write that so an actual human can understand it?

Re: #177
"My girlfriend and I are lovey-dovey."

Does that get the point across?
192AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:37
Re: #177
What I meant is: my girlfriend gave me a box of card packs for my birthday,
but I'd already ordered 4 copies each of the key cards you'd likely pull from that box, online, on release day — so it left me with mixed feelings.

Background and Talking Points

Threads like this one come from 5ch’s “Live: Anything Goes” board, a topic-free chat space where each participant brings their own subject. This time the focus was “hashigo” (梯子, literally “ladder”), card-game community slang for entering multiple official Duel Masters store tournaments (“CS”) held the same day, moving between venues to try to clear the qualifiers. When a poster unfamiliar with the term misread it as “isu” (椅子, “chair”), opinions split over whether it was a deliberate joke or a genuine misreading. Later in the thread, jabs at grown adults for still playing card games crossed with rebuttals of “I do have a girlfriend,” in a familiar back-and-forth about hobbies and age. A story about a birthday-gift card box turning out to duplicate cards the poster had already bought as singles on release day struck a chord as a relatable collector’s mishap, giving this otherwise ordinary chat thread a small glimpse of very human moments.
