She shifted from variety shows to acting without anyone noticing

Re: #2
And her acting's been steadily getting better too

Re: #2
Re: #4
About 10 years ago she was the type to brag on variety shows about not bathing for days, and now she's acting like a mid-tier actress out of nowhere lol
4AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:58
She used to brag with a smug face on Gokigenyou (a long-running talk show) about not bathing for ages
5AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:58
Restaurants where you talk to the staff — you mean like red-lantern izakaya bars? (red paper lanterns mark old-school Japanese pubs)
9AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:00
She was in a swimsuit as some kind of punishment game on that show Ganmi that Miyasako was on
10AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:00
Still saying stuff like that at 39?

Re: #10
On 5ch there are plenty of guys over 50 who still freak out when a store clerk talks to them — seems like there are quite a few elderly loner social-anxiety types here
11AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:00
Already 40
So I guess once the staff catch on, they just seat her in a private room
13AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:01
Go to a cheap place and you only have to deal with robots
14AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:01
Re: #1
I'm bad at it too, so it helps when takeout is an option
16AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:02
Wait, she's really 39?
Isn't that kind of alarming
What kind of major flaw is that even
20AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:05
Then just cook at home and eat there, I guess?
30AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:11
Re: #20
Is that really worth such a harsh reply?
21AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:05
Just stock up at a department store basement food hall and eat at home
Though maybe that's actually harder for a celebrity
22AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:06
I thought she died recently
but guess that was someone else
23AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:06
Virgins get nervous around McDonald's staff whenever it's a girl
26AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:09
Things should be more cutthroat.
28AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:09
If it doesn't get too lively, doesn't she just say little and leave quickly? Guess she just likes being alone
31AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:11
People like this probably do best at chain restaurants
32AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:14
In a private room, if you stay silent when the staff comes in it gets awkward, so you end up talking
But with young staff these days, it's rough when the customer makes the effort to talk and barely gets a reaction
33AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:14
If you're not staying long, a counter seat would be better
And it's probably appreciated by the restaurant too, given turnover rate and all
34AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:16
So a counter seat is fine lol
What a pain of a customer, the world doesn't revolve around you
51AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:41
Hmm
Is she dumb or something lol
I'm the same way so I agree with the sentiment, but

That's why I never eat out at all
Why eat outside anyway?

Re: #51
Cooking being a hassle >>> being bad at talking to staff

In everyday life too, with people you're not close to, you just make small talk about the weather, catching a cold, stiff shoulders, that kind of stuff — it's the same at a restaurant at first
You start with something like 'cold today, huh' and then (this time of year) ask 'what's good here?'
And even if what they recommend isn't to your taste, just go with 'nice, I'll have that' and the conversation keeps flowing
64AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:09
Re: #59
Sounds like talking to a hairdresser lol
When I was young I thought it was a pain but still made conversation
Now when they start with 'Is work off today?' I just brush it off with all kinds of lies
Like saying I'm a sports adventurer or something
67AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:16
Yeah, this is annoying, isn't it
Saying 'thanks for the meal' to someone who treated you is annoying too, right
I wonder if she even likes anyone
She's not some flattery-obsessed yes-man (lit. "sycophant goblin") after all
69AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:18
Re: #67
Huh? If someone treats me I just simply think 'nice, I came out ahead,' that's it
Saying 'thanks for the meal!' is no big deal
I just don't like talking when there's nothing to gain from it lol
73AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:30
Pretty girls tend to have quite a lot of things they're bad at
81AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:38
Re: #73
Plain girls aren't any different though, are they
84AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:46
I once thought I wasn't recognized at a place I go to often, but then they said 'long time no see' and I was surprised
Even though we'd never actually talked
86AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:52
Re: #84
If some old guy said that to me I'd just think it's creepy
But if it's a young girl working there, I'd fall for her

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“The Best Restaurant of My Life” is a late-night show that digs into celebrities’ food-related anecdotes, and Nakamura An made these remarks as a guest on the October 17 broadcast. She once built part of her image on being unfiltered, famously revealing on variety shows that she’d gone long stretches without bathing, and many posts on the thread focused on the gap between that era and her current, more polished actress persona. Opinion was split on how to read her discomfort with talking to staff itself — some saw it as thoughtful consideration not to burden the staff, while others took a cooler view, dismissing it as a celebrity’s particular brand of pickiness. What’s easy to miss is that her reason for avoiding private rooms isn’t simply wanting to dodge service interactions — it’s the more layered discomfort, familiar to anyone who struggles with small talk, of trying to avoid the awkward silence when a staff member walks in.
