Wonder if PM Takaichi is watching this drama too?

Sorimachi, Oda, Ishihara—doesn't matter who Fuji TV brings in, it's hopeless
7AnonymousOct 8, 2026 10:59
The title is just too awful…
I'll watch it later anyway though
9AnonymousOct 8, 2026 10:59
I'll keep watching I guess,
but it wasn't that interesting
10AnonymousOct 8, 2026 10:59
That's actually a good number for this slot on Fuji—thanks to Ishihara and Nogi's script
13AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:01
Political Pan…
so it's basically like 'Pan the Bread Thief'? (a popular kids' picture-book character)
14AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:02
Even with a hot, in-demand screenwriter, it still flops on Fuji?
15AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:02
Did Nogi, who's taken heat for being too PC, pick this title out of spite?
26AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:07
Re: #15
It's a coined word combining 'political' with 'Lupin,' the byword for master thief

Re: #26
So it's a socially-conscious drama about politics?

Re: #26
I opened this thread thinking the title read 'Politi-Calpan,' not 'Political Pan'

Re: #1
What's with Fuji TV?
Is there some rule that every drama title
has to have 'Lupin' crammed into it?
Seriously, let Lupin go already.

These drama titles are so lame.
Kids these days
don't even know who Lupin is.

Such a star-studded cast, yet this is what you get on Fuji

NHK, Fuji, Netflix, DMM—Watabe's hotter than ever right now
He must be swamped

Re: #19
Looks like the generation whose brains got fried by 'Keizoku' (a 1999 hit drama) is now in charge of casting, so he keeps getting picked
20AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:04
Not that into Satomi Ishihara herself, but the supporting cast—Kazunari Takahashi, Atsuro Watabe, Masao Kusakari, Yumi Kawai—is so solid I'm watching for them
Still, Kusakari's age is unbelievable

Re: #20
With a cast and a hot screenwriter like this lined up…
and it's still only 5.6%?
21AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:04
What's Satomi Ishihara's actual signature role anyway?
25AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:06
Who was the extra cast member Nogi was hinting at?
27AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:07
Fuji's done for no matter what they do now
Even re-airing Vivant wouldn't crack 10% at this point

Re: #27
These days in Japan they just hide behind 'core viewer ratings,' a bogus metric that's basically a scam

Take 'Atarashii Kagi' (New Key)—stuck in the 2% range on regular ratings, yet they claim it's fine on core ratings and won't cancel it, which is just dumb
28AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:07
'Last Mile' felt more like a TV special than an actual movie
38AnonymousOct 8, 2026 11:12
Re: #28
That's because it was just a crossover cash-in using 'Unnatural' and 'MIU404'—shows with no plans for real sequels—to pull in an audience

Background and Talking Points on This Story

The 5.6% figure is a household rating for the Kanto region. The ‘core viewer rating’ mentioned in the replies is a separate metric based on individual viewership that Video Research introduced in recent years. Because a low household rating can still coexist with a high core rating—which networks weigh heavily when deciding whether to keep a show on air—the two figures aren’t easily compared. Many in the thread felt the show ‘underperformed’ relative to Nogi Akiko’s past work, but a serial drama’s reputation isn’t set in stone after one episode; ratings commonly shift from week to week. As several replies noted, the title ‘Political Pan’ is said to be a coined term blending ‘political’ with the master-thief icon ‘Lupin’—a naming choice that’s as much about signaling the show’s theme as it is about catchy wordplay.
