Ninomiya again?
First the Asian Games, now this — what's going on with him?
8AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:16
Wait, seriously, why Kazunari Ninomiya

Re: #8
Better to have at least one experienced host in the mix
11AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:17
Sakai's probably going to memorize the entire script again, huh
12AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:17
So Mana Ashida's finally here
Bigger draw than any of the singers performing
16AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:18
Average height of the three is like 158cm?
18AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:18
So the rival show is Ariyoshi no Kabe over on NTV?
19AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:18
Ninomiya's basically the Nakai Masahiro type of MC
Surprisingly down-to-earth, can talk comfortably with athletes and artists alike, broad range. As long as he doesn't screw up, he could keep running the actor/MC double act for years

Comedy really isn't popular right now, is it
22AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:18
If Liu Mingxuan showed up as the Red Team's host and screamed "Don't let White win!!!!" that'd actually be hype
23AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:18
After already taking over the commercial networks' music specials, now Arashi's got Kohaku too
24AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:19
Wasn't Johnny's supposed to be pulling back from NHK or something?
25AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:19
What's with this recent push for Ninomiya anyway?
Where's the demand even coming from?

Re: #25
Factoring in the height difference with Mana Ashida
43AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:23
Knew a Johnny's guy would turn up eventually
Uchiwan (Uchimura) did an unusual 4 years because of COVID, but apparently the original plan was to swap after 3; Oizumi also did 3, so it was obvious Ariyoshi would do 3 too — wonder if Sakai will also stick to 3 years
Actresses tend to rotate pretty fast, but if it's Ashida, she might run about 3 years like Hashikan (Kanna Hashimoto) did

Re: #43
No matter how you slice it, Ninomiya's the '3-year slot' guy
The other two are just guest slots
45AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:24
The article tries to justify it with all kinds of reasoning, but
not one of these three screams 'the face of NHK' — total borrowed-talent vibes lol
55AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:25
Re: #45
Exactly this
Ninomiya aside, the other two barely register as 'NHK' at all
46AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:24
No Johnny's acts even performing, and yet it's still all about cashing in
56AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:25
Re: #46
Wait, seriously? They're not performing?
53AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:25
December already?
The year went by way too fast

Re: #53
This year felt like it went by about 2 months faster than usual
79AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:31
Last year's Ariyoshi/Ayase/Imada lineup was so bad that the bar's set low this year

Re: #79
I bet the ratings drop even lower than last year
87AnonymousOct 9, 2026 06:32
Hosting duty should just go to an announcer, honestly

Or just use AI at this point

Feels like this year had nothing hyped besides Chiikawa and VIVANT, can't even think of anything else
Even Ohtani's buzz died down

He apparently did 4 years total, including the no-audience COVID year
Saw it on some list of past hosts, so I'm pretty sure that's right

Background and Key Points

NHK’s Kohaku hosts have typically rotated every 2 to 4 years in recent times, which is why thread posters speculated about how long Masato Sakai and Kazunari Ninomiya might stick around. Ninomiya has increasingly taken on hosting roles for sports broadcasts and talk shows in recent years, suggesting his selection reflects cross-network MC experience that goes beyond Kohaku alone. Ashida is hosting for the first time, but it’s easy to overlook that this isn’t her first Kohaku appearance overall — she performed as a singer in 2011 and served as a guest judge in 2022. The thread also voiced discomfort over all three hosts having a weak association with NHK’s image, but it’s worth noting that recent Kohaku hosting choices have increasingly prioritized general name recognition — including from commercial networks — rather than necessarily picking faces exclusive to NHK.
