The story
It’s come to light that RENAN, the choreographer behind aespa and XG’s performances, is handling the choreography for Hello! Project’s Juice=Juice’s newly announced single “Glorious Revenger.” After footage of their dance lessons in Korea aired on a Hulu show, reactions poured into 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Opinions on the song itself were split, and fans also clashed over how introducing K-pop-style choreography might reshape the group’s direction. Some welcomed the shift toward a more performance-focused approach, while others voiced unease about losing the group’s traditional Hello! Project identity.
What people said
Nah — I've been through idols, anime theme songs, voice actors, artists, singers, visual-kei, you name it, and I'm telling you: this song is garbage.
That's still just your personal opinion at the end of the day.
Impressive that you can declare it garbage without even listening to the whole thing.
This exactly.
Did Hello! Project really need to go hire a Korean choreographer?
Something about it just doesn't sit right with me.
What even is that dance, some dizzying Ginyu Force (the Dragon Ball villain squad) routine?

That's a very "Juice" way for it to end, honestly. Tour tickets aren't even selling anymore.
Don't sneak in a blatant lie like that, it's embarrassing.
I already got tickets for the fall tour so I'm going, but whether I go next spring depends on how that tour turns out. Lately it's been mostly TV promo appearances and "our dream came true"-type comments, with nothing about where they actually want to take their artistry next.
No wonder people are getting bored — and I'm not even the exception.
It's clearly a different direction, sure, but as a new challenge it makes for an interesting show. It's the kind of thing Hello! Project, which usually just runs the same in-house routines, would never normally do.
Everything but the lyrics comes from writers who usually work with boy groups, and the anime tie-in is aimed at fujoshi anyway — the song already existed and they just swapped in new lyrics to snag the tie-in deal. So there's not much point debating "direction" here.
Commissioning a Reiwa-era "Vivid Midnight" for Amecchi (member's nickname) — nice call!
Even Hirai or Akiyama would probably struggle with that dance lesson, so of course members who aren't strong dancers are going to struggle with it too. Made me wonder what they're actually trying to do going forward. I guess this is just what happens when you go viral in a weird way. I could get it if they'd just done food and sightseeing like normal.
That's a pretty snide way to put it. If they pull it off, it's a new Juice=Juice; if they don't, it's just the old Juice=Juice. Now that they can finally reach outward and soak up new inspiration, it seems they've decided to brand themselves more as a performance-focused group than idols, and they're working on building up the dance skills they're still lacking.
On X, ANGERME is getting mocked in comparison to this Juice=Juice project.
If you're talking about the blog content, it hasn't really changed much from before they got popular to now. They still write about dreams and goals even today. I think you're just looking at it through tinted glasses.
> "No wonder people are getting bored — and I'm not even the exception."
So how are you going to respond to that part, huh?
About the current, "finished" version of Juice=Juice, I once wrote this (lightly edited):
—
Saying "entirely steered by the adults" sounds harsh, so let's call it "left to fend for itself by the adults" instead.
If the typical idol is one who never tries to break free of that "left to fend for itself" ceiling on their own, then Juice=Juice, at least as things stand now, isn't an act that transcends that typical idol ceiling either.
For idols who can't commit to the songwriting side, the only real place for "self-expression" is the live stage, however you look at it — and yet that live stage is itself "left to fend for itself" (referring to the fall tour).
The story a "finished," fully-formed Juice=Juice can tell, however many grain-of-sand-sized differences it contains, ultimately just ends up being a repetition of the same thing.
That's exactly what "being finished" means.
How so? Morning Musume and ANGERME have had even bigger-name choreographers.
I think Juice=Juice is probably going to disband sometime next year. Everything they're doing lately feels so halfhearted.
Juice=Juice's otaku headcount has already dropped below pre-"Moremi" levels (a member's nickname). That's seriously bad.
90% of those new fans have already left too, though.
This wouldn't happen with ANGERME — poor thing. You should just drop Juice=Juice already.
They're probably planning to disband next year. This whole thing already feels like it's entered the ending phase.
Background and Key Points of This Topic
Juice=Juice is a flagship Hello! Project group with over a decade of history, and this project was presented as part of a dance-lesson segment on a Hulu show. RENAN, who has handled choreography for overseas girl groups, is an unusual pick for a Hello! Project release. In the thread, opinions were divided less over the song itself and more over how adopting K-pop-style choreography and overseas location shoots might reshape the group’s future direction. That said, comments about ticket sales or a possible breakup were individual posters’ speculation within the thread, not officially announced facts, so some caution is warranted.
