‘Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back’ Announced — 5ch Asks: ‘Is There Even a Point Without Suda?’

From our other sites

The story

Following the success of “Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP,” a brand-new entry in the series, “LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW 2 Back2Back,” has been revealed via announcements from the PlayStation Blog and Famitsu. The game has been announced for PS5, but the thread immediately zeroed in on the fact that series creator Goichi Suda is not involved in this installment. Comments like “A Suda game isn’t about the title — Suda himself is the brand” and “There’s no point without Suda” piled up one after another, while some posters even brought up Hajime Tabata, the former director of Final Fantasy XV. The discussion branched out fast, from whether the PS5 exclusivity will actually hold to a full-blown math battle over how to interpret the previous Switch version’s sales figures.

So Suda's not involved, and they're bringing in Tabata from FF15 instead, lol
4AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:33
Same thing happened with LID — people don't get that a Suda game's brand is Suda himself, not the title.
10AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:40
Re: #4
Exactly this — sure, the hit-or-miss rate is high, but it means something precisely because Suda's involved.
6AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:37
Guess PS5 exclusivity can't be helped here
— this game's vibe just doesn't land with Japanese audiences anymore, so there's zero chance of decent sales in Japan.
7AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:38
A 'Suda game' without Suda involved is guaranteed trash lol
8AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:39
Suda's completely washed his hands of it — didn't even touch RePOP.
But there sure are a lot of angry replies from overseas fans.
9AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:39
Also, it's rough that the Switch version lost the multiplat sales battle for RePOP.
That's basically become the excuse to snub Switch 2.
12AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:42
Wait, are people seriously assuming it's exclusive just because Sony made the announcement…?
16AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:43
Re: #12
So far, every media outlet's article only mentions PS5 too.

> Doragami Games Inc. (headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo; President Shohei Sato) announces that, in conjunction with an announcement made by NADA HOLDINGS CORP. (headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan; President Joe Teng, hereinafter "NADA HOLDINGS") on the PlayStation Blog, the official title of the latest entry in the LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW series is "LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW 2 Back2Back," and that it will be released for PlayStation 5.

A Suda game is a Suda game because Suda's involved — there's no point without him.
It's already niche enough for hardcore fans as it is.
15AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:43
This is gonna flop hard, and then eventually get ported to other platforms — that's the whole story arc here.
17AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:44
Whether it'd actually be good even with Suda involved is a separate question, though.
18AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:45
Bu-bu-bu-Buhicchihabu wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww (a nonsense meme sound effect; the chain of "w" is Japanese internet shorthand for laughter, like "lol")
19AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:45
Didn't expect to see Tabata's name pop up here of all places.
21AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:47
Suda OUT
James Gunn OUT
Tabata IN
…yeah, I dunno about this one
22AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:47
The official X (Twitter) account still hasn't listed platforms even after the PlayStation announcement.
50AnonymousSep 17, 2026 11:18
Re: #22
For that 'Re-whatever' game, Xbox got added to the platform list later on.
23AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:48
Ohhhh!!!!!!
I love Lollipop Chainsaw, so I'm happy to see a sequel.
26AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:50
If this really turns out to be a PS exclusive, we're gonna need Inabune to come lecture them.
27AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:50
Meanwhile 'Meccha Chameleon' on Switch 2 hit 300k downloads in a week,

and they're going PS5 exclusive? Are they trying to kill this thing?
30AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:52
Re: #27
That's a worldwide figure though, you sure about that?
Do the math and that comes out to only 6,000 units sold per country.
36AnonymousSep 17, 2026 11:01
Re: #30
If you're going to argue that way, dividing PlayStation's 1 million worldwide units by country gives roughly the same number.
38AnonymousSep 17, 2026 11:03
Re: #30
Knowing how hard someone thought about that reply is too scary to even laugh at.
29AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:52
Re: #25
Isn't this just PlayStation's PR leading with their own platform first, basically saying 'PS5 is included'?
Details are probably coming at TGS, right?
32AnonymousSep 17, 2026 10:54
I remember being surprised that this one was actually missing the usual anime parodies and otaku references you'd expect from a Suda game.
39AnonymousSep 17, 2026 11:04
Re: #36
1,000,000 units / 73 countries = 13,698 units.
That's more than double your number — you sure about that?
40AnonymousSep 17, 2026 11:09
Re: #39
It's sold in more than 123 countries and regions.
42AnonymousSep 17, 2026 11:11
Gameplay footage from the demo is already up.

Ohh!!! Thanks!!!
I'll check it out once I'm back at work.

Re: #42
I'm a hardcore fan, so normally I'd praise it no matter what… but yeah, this is actually pretty rough.
It doesn't need to be high production value — it just feels like it's missing that certain sense of style.
81AnonymousSep 17, 2026 12:15
Pre-orders open tonight for this one, huh.

If they announce this as a timed PS5 exclusive,
people are going to mistakenly think it's PS5-only forever,
and that's going to tank the game's sales, don't you think?

Nobody wins here — not the publisher, not the users.
It's a garbage timed-exclusive deal.

They really need to stop doing pointless timed exclusives
for a dying platform like this.
84AnonymousSep 17, 2026 12:22
Re: #82
The only ones who benefit are the people getting wined and dined — that's exactly why this practice never dies.
85AnonymousSep 17, 2026 12:25
Re: #82
If a platform with 140 million monthly active users counts as 'dying,'
then what does that make Xbox or Switch, which have even fewer? ;;
90AnonymousSep 17, 2026 12:48
First they push out Kojima, and now they're pushing Suda instead? Come on, Sony, that's brutal.

Re: #90
Except… Suda's not even in it…

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Lollipop Chainsaw” is a 2012 action game directed by Goichi Suda of Grasshopper Manufacture, which received a remake, “RePOP,” in 2024. According to Famitsu, the newly announced full sequel is being developed by NADA HOLDINGS CORP. (Taiwan) and published by Doragami Games (Shinagawa, Tokyo), with no involvement from Suda or Grasshopper Manufacture confirmed at this time. Opinion in the thread was split over whether the PS5 listing means permanent exclusivity or a “timed exclusive” that will later add other platforms — there have been past cases of titles announced as PS5-only that later added Xbox support, so drawing firm conclusions about platform availability from this announcement alone may be premature. There was also a back-and-forth over the previous Switch version’s sales figures, with posters doing rough per-country conversions of worldwide totals — but the actual regional breakdown hasn’t been published, so any such estimate remains speculative.
