Awake for 36 Hours, Slept Just 1: Viewers Say Short-Sleeper Streamer Might Be “the Real Deal”

From our other sites

The story

A thread appeared on 5ch’s livestream-commentary board reporting that a streamer who claims to be a “short sleeper” had stayed awake for over 36 hours, sleeping a total of just one hour during that span. The result reportedly followed a declaration of “I won’t sleep on day two” after viewers accused the streamer of dozing off during a treatment the day before. While some in the thread called it “the real deal,” others raised a definitional objection — “isn’t being a short sleeper about needing less sleep per session, not about refusing to sleep at all?” — and pointed to past streaming stunts where people stayed awake for over a week, leaving the thread divided over what would actually count as "proof."

What people said

Over 36 hours in and the total actual sleep is just 1 hour.
Yesterday during a head-spa treatment, haters said "you totally dozed off! (for 30 min)" so they declared they wouldn't sleep on day two.
This person's the real deal.

They're still totally fine right now.
The cosmetic surgeon and YouTubers who doubted them owe an apology.
34AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:36
Re: #2
Doubting them was reasonable, so there's no need for an apology, is there

Even if it's genuine, it's such a rare case you can't really judge it by normal standards.
3AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:21
What about that leak saying they normally sleep 7 hours?
5AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:23
Re: #3
Apparently the doctor misread "1 hour" as "7 hours."
4AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:22
Haters: "Aren't they just sleeping during those 6 baths a day?"

→ Responded by streaming in a swimsuit in the bath, showing everything

Unstoppable.

Re: #4
A swimsuit stream, for real?
I want to see it.
6AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:24
Did you guys get played for free promo again?
9AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:24
They're doing totally fine, as usual.
This person's the real deal.
11AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:25
Is it that they can't sleep, or that they won't sleep? Which is it?
12AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:25
I dozed off myself during that ridiculously long bath scene — did this person pull an all-nighter yesterday?
13AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:26
This is basically proof it's a genuine rare physical trait.
27AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:30
Re: #13
But that's not being a short sleeper.
They're just refusing to sleep.
45AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:41
Re: #13
That would be a problem for Hori (the streamer, aka Hori Daisuke, referenced later in the thread)
It has to be framed as a skill anyone can pick up.
14AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:26
Even a random corporate slave or a college student could manage like 3 days of this.
15AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:26
People are joking that they "totally slept," but sleeping is sleeping, right?
16AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:26
"Short sleeper" refers to how long each individual sleep session is —
isn't not sleeping at all just insomnia?
23AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:29
Even this still loses to Akino Housoukyoku, who once beat every Dragon Quest game back to back without sleeping.
31AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:35
Re: #23
The other guy who did a no-sleep Dragon Quest stream (not Akino) stayed awake for hundreds of hours.
A full week without sleep is way more impressive than short-sleeper Hori Daisuke.
36AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:38
Re: #31
Then again, sleeping just 30 minutes a day, every day, seems impressive in its own way.
Once you fall asleep, you can't wake back up, right?
57AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:48
Re: #36
During his no-sleep trip, Miyakawa Taisei refused to nap too, saying "if I nap, I won't be able to wake up again."
51AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:46
Going 2 days without sleep is doable if you push yourself.
Past that, something starts going wrong lol
53AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:47
Re: #51
There was a foreign streamer who played Zelda nonstop and didn't sleep for a week.
58AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:48

Uh oh…
63AnonymousSep 11, 2026 09:49
Re: #58
Even just 4 hours without sleep is already pretty rough, honestly.
90AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:01
I heard the stream keeps cutting out here and there — what's up with that?
92AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:02
Re: #90
It's just brief lag-related freezes.
It doesn't stop for minutes at a time.
96AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:03
Hori Daisuke's even written a book on this, so keep an eye on the eating streams too.
98AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:04
Lol, Professor Yanagisawa — Hori Daisuke's rival — just won a Lasker Award.

Re: #98
Sorry, but that's just way too obvious.
106AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:06
Re: #98
He was on Hodo Station (a Japanese evening news program) yesterday making fun of Hori.
105AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:06
I believe they're really not sleeping, but I think they should use that extra time productively, like Edison or Osamu Tezuka did.
110AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:07
Re: #105
Huh? They're taking baths, though.
121AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:11
Did this person even explain why they take so many baths in the first place?
If the whole point of short sleeping is having more waking hours, spending all that time bathing kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
125AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:13
Re: #121
Apparently they're worried about body odor.
135AnonymousSep 11, 2026 10:18
Re: #121
Re: #125
What, like Shizuka-chan? (the famously bath-loving character from Doraemon)

Background and Points of Debate

Medically speaking, “short sleeper” describes a physical trait in which someone experiences little to no impairment despite short individual sleep sessions — it’s technically a different concept from deliberately staying awake. As noted in the thread, it’s well known that the longer sleep deprivation continues, the more cognitive functions like judgment tend to decline, and there have been past streaming stunts built around staying awake for extended stretches that drew attention. Whether this particular case stems from a genuine physical trait or is simply an endurance stunt is hard to determine from the stream alone, and it’s worth noting that the thread never reached a consensus, staying split between those who considered it “proof” and those who argued the definition doesn’t even apply in the first place.
