The story
Tomomi Itano was already under fire over filming in the large communal bath at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, after the hotel officially denied giving permission, stating it “never authorized filming in the changing area.” Now an account claiming to be Itano’s lawyer has hit back, insisting “proper filming permission was obtained for designated areas, including the changing room,” and reportedly fired off a string of 24-hour deletion demands at critical posters, citing defamation and business obstruction by fraudulent means. But when one recipient asked for permission to publish the lawyer’s DMs, every post from the lawyer’s account vanished — undercutting the claim entirely. On 5ch, opinions split over whether the response was appropriate, and whether the account really belongs to a lawyer at all.

Tomomi Itano’s filming in the large communal bath at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko drew criticism and sparked a firestorm. Itano maintains she filmed with the hotel’s permission, but the hotel itself, in an interview with Shukan Josei PRIME, said, “Permission to film on the premises was limited to areas where filming is allowed” and “We never authorized filming in the changing area, etc.” — a major development in the story.

What people said
I got a deletion demand from a lawyer identifying himself as Tomomi Itano's representative, claiming my post created a "false impression" amounting to defamation and business obstruction by fraudulent means, giving me 24 hours to comply.
The demand claims proper filming permission was obtained for designated areas including the changing room. Before deleting anything, I've asked him to confirm the facts and give permission to publish the DMs — still waiting on a reply.

Not when it's for a client.
Doctors decide to become doctors at 18.
Maybe that's why, even the ones who are shady about money, are still sincere about medicine.
With lawyers, a lot of them just graduate from a law faculty, figure they've got a shot, and go on to law school (ロースクール) after that —
so plenty of them pick the job after 22 because it looks profitable.
(Sure, there are geniuses who aim for it at 18 and pass the bar while still in undergrad, but they're a minority.)
That's why so many — especially the young ones — have already ditched any pride or morals as legal professionals.
This guy's done as a lawyer lol
If you hired ten former Justice Ministers and Vice-Ministers of Justice at like 500 million yen a year each, you might get enough pull to lobby the Vice-Minister of Finance into letting any criminal walk.
The lawyer probably means he confirmed it with Itano before demanding the deletion.
If that's true, don't threaten people and then do a runner… lol
If he's not an actual lawyer, this is unauthorized practice of law — that's a crime.
I really want to believe that's the case, because if this is for real… lol
He does seem to be an actual, existing lawyer,
but couldn't this still be a hijacked or impersonated account?
If so, you'd expect an announcement from the bar association, his firm, or Itano's side.
Sounds like one of those escalating Drifters comedy sketches lol (The Drifters — a classic Japanese comedy troupe known for skits that spiral out of control)
They definitely didn't get permission from the other guests in there, so wouldn't that make it voyeuristic filming?
Honestly at this point I'm hoping it's impersonation lol
Rogue, was it? Might've just been business as usual, exactly what the client wanted.
The guy demanding a proper response came off way smarter, lol
Excuse me?
I'll have you know I'm a regular at Ritz parties, thank you very much. (a joking, over-the-top boast)
I always figured those downtown Tokyo law firms were stacked with cool-headed, razor-sharp lawyers.
It's as absurd as being told "bring some cash" and taking that as permission to commit robbery and murder.
Normally you'd understand "bring cash" just means bring cash to pay with.
Legally it seems to count as a valid formal notice (催告),
but in practice it's basically unworkable — honestly it's just a dumb demand to make,
since there's no guarantee the other person even reads it within 24 hours.
It wasn't even that big a deal, but Itano and her lawyer are the ones desperately pouring gasoline on the fire lol.
Reminds me of the Jiro Sato incident (a Japanese actor involved in a similar self-inflicted controversy).
This whole thing would've blown over if they'd just said "sorry, I'll reflect on it" and left it at that.
Background and Key Points of the Debate
This all started with filming in the large communal bath at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, after the hotel told Shukan Josei PRIME that it “never authorized filming in the changing area.” In response, an account claiming to be Itano’s representative lawyer countered that “proper filming permission was obtained for designated areas including the changing room,” and a poster who received a deletion demand over a critical post — citing “defamation and business obstruction by fraudulent means” with a 24-hour deadline — made the exchange public. The thread mainly split over whether this lawyer account is genuine, and whether the response was “routine work in line with the client’s wishes” or “one lawyer going rogue.” One easily overlooked point: the “delete within 24 hours” demand itself carries no legal force and is merely a formal notice, as one reply (#109) pointed out — and as of this reporting, the authenticity of the DMs and the account holder’s identity had not been confirmed. A real firm name, Toranomon Law & Economics Office, has come up, but the possibility of impersonation hasn’t been ruled out either.
