That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: ‘2000-Year Loop’ Twist Has 5ch Live-Reaction Thread Crying ‘This Is Hell’

The story

In the anime That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Chloe and Hinata time-leap 2000 years into the past, repeating a loop while keeping their consciousness intact until the sealed Chronoa awakens. On 5ch’s live-reaction thread, some said “staying sane through 2000 years is worse hell than Re:Zero’s Subaru,” while others pointed out that the series already features characters like the True Dragons and the Primordials who live far longer than 2000 years, and that Awakened Heroes also stop aging — so the number actually fits the story’s own timeline, splitting opinion. Fans who’ve read the source material also weighed in on how Chloe and Hinata’s souls and bodies are being handled, the power ranking between the True Dragons and the Primordials, and how the Shion vs. Razul fight is being treated.

Pretty sure it was King Gazel who said you're free to call yourself a hero, but once you do, you get dragged into a hero's karma.

Re: #4
That'd be Masayuki.
11AnonymousSep 6, 2026 01:16
So does that mean Chloe technically has two souls existing at once — from when she was born on Earth until she got warped over?
They seem to rule out parallel worlds, but if it's a separate world, could a parallel soul still exist there?

Re: #11
Well, obviously.
17AnonymousSep 6, 2026 01:47
Re: #11
Maybe there's some kind of holding space where a soul that's been sent over waits temporarily.
And when time rewinds, that space rewinds along with it.
25AnonymousSep 6, 2026 04:52
Looping 2000 years while staying fully conscious sounds like flat-out hell, worse than Subaru from Re:Zero…
Couldn't they have picked a slightly more realistic number of years?
27AnonymousSep 6, 2026 05:07
Re: #25
This series already has plenty of nonhuman characters who've lived way longer than 2000 years anyway.
And apparently even humans stop aging once they become Awakened Heroes, so it's probably a number chosen to balance against Granbell too.

Luminous is being written as a real saint here.

Re: #26
She really is a genuinely good person — she founded a religion to protect humanity, and it was someone else who twisted the doctrine into monster-persecution.
Though she's probably into Chloe and Hinata romantically.

Re: #27
Wouldn't the 'hell level' be different for a long-lived race versus someone who used to be Japanese, looping again like that?
Though a year in this world might not equal a year on Earth.

Re: #32
I get where you're coming from, but I think the strong ones in this world are mentally far tougher than people in reality.
Realistically, Chloe needed to spend a good number of years before she and Leon even got transported over.
Stuff like Veldora destroying Luminous's capital lines up with roughly 2000 years ago, so I think that number was actually thought through pretty carefully.
35AnonymousSep 6, 2026 05:52
Grown-up Chloe is way too pretty.

They said two versions of the same person can't exist in the same space-time — but since Hinata died and got sent back 2000 years along with Chloe, wouldn't whichever consciousness (Chloe's or Hinata's) is inside present-day Chronoa come back?

Re: #35
Haven't read the source material, but I'd guess once she wakes up they'll put Hinata's soul back into Hinata's body and revive her.
If so, her mind would've matured roughly 2000 years' worth by the time she's revived.
38AnonymousSep 6, 2026 06:24
Even if she's revived, isn't there no body to put her in?
Yuuki's got Chloe's body, but there's no body for Hinata.
78AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:20
Re: #38
As for a body, Rimuru's got plenty of Material Bodies stocked up, and he can make more.
He's already given physical bodies to Veldora, Ifrit, the Primordials, and other demons.
Hinata's a saint, and after 2000 years she's probably become a spiritual life-form like the elementals and demons.

Re: #38
Her soul-emptied body is sitting right there in front of them, though.
43AnonymousSep 6, 2026 06:35
It's cool that 'Chronoa' became the name for the Skill, but why is its nature 'the will of destruction'?
Makes you wonder if Raphael's gonna go berserk eventually too.

Re: #43
There seem to be all sorts of theories floating around, but basically it's either the buildup of negative emotion from looping over and over,
or Chronoa's will unconsciously trying to protect the sleeping consciousness/souls of Chloe and Hinata,
or some combination of the above.
47AnonymousSep 6, 2026 06:55
Calling it now: next episode, the newly-awakened Chronoa suddenly glomps Rimuru and kisses him.
58AnonymousSep 6, 2026 07:53
Re: #47
And then the revived Hinata calls Rimuru 'Papa.'
74AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:58
There were bits that bugged me, but I was watching along thinking 'this is put together pretty carefully for a Narou series' (Narou = the web-novel site/genre known for formulaic isekai stories)… and then they suddenly kick off a time-loop arc. Kind of a bummer.
85AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:42
Re: #74
It's not really that sudden, though.
Ramiris already said, back at the Spirits' Den, that the thing possessing Chloe came from the future, and in the side story Noir saw right through the fact that Shizu's mask transcended time.
89AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:13
Is Veldora actually ranked above the Primordials?
103AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:52
Re: #89
Yep.
Guy said as much to Diablo too.
Though he also said the True Dragons are basically like a force of nature, so they're kind of an exception.
True Dragons > Primordials.
90AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:17
After all this, the Shion vs. Razul fight is gonna feel like a total afterthought.
91AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:20
Re: #90
It got written up in a fair amount of detail in the source material, but I've got a feeling the anime's just gonna end it as a quick result report.
93AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:35
Well, I guess going forward it does mean 'if we lose to an enemy, we can just redo it,' huh.
95AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:39
Re: #93
Only if they can actually control the time-leap at will, though.
96AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:42
Re: #93
It doesn't even activate unless Hinata dies, though.
98AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:45
Meanwhile, nothing's actually being done to stop Rimuru from dying out in the Eastern Empire arc.
100AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:49
Re: #98
Nobody knows how he'd even avoid it.
But just becoming an Awakened Demon Lord alone should've bumped his odds of surviving up quite a bit compared to before.
109AnonymousSep 6, 2026 11:36
Doesn't Chloe go insane from repeating a 2000-year loop?
111AnonymousSep 6, 2026 11:40
Re: #109
Same thought here.
Not sure if it's just that Chloe's mental fortitude is freakishly strong, or if some kind of power/authority is propping her up.
115AnonymousSep 6, 2026 11:47
Re: #109 Re: #111
Maybe she really is cracking and piling up negative emotions, but it's all draining into Chronoa, which is what lets Chloe stay sane.
Or the other way around — maybe Chronoa's absorbed so much of it that it's turned into an embodiment of evil. Just speculating.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime started out as a popular web novel, and the anime is currently adapting a later part of the source material — the time-leap episode tied to Yuuki and Hinata. The thread’s disagreement centered on two main points. First was the weight of the ‘loop 2000 years while staying fully conscious’ setup: some invoked Re:Zero and called it ‘hell,’ while others countered that the series already has plenty of characters — like the True Dragons and the Primordials — who’ve lived far longer than 2000 years, and that since Awakened Heroes also stop aging, the number actually matches the story’s own timescale, offering a defense of the choice. Second was how Chloe and Hinata’s souls and bodies are being handled: the rule that two souls can’t exist in the same space-time at once, and the true identity of the sealed Chronoa (whether it holds Chloe’s or Hinata’s consciousness), were hard to follow for those who haven’t read the source material. Some also pointed out that earlier remarks from Ramiris and Noir had already hinted at the time-leap, suggesting it was foreshadowed rather than out of nowhere. Note that all of this is fan speculation about in-story lore, not confirmed information.
