Turns out the Chiikawa fandom has its own ‘popular members,’ ‘unpopular members,’ obsessive stans, and haters too…

The story

A Chiikawa-related thread lit up with posts describing which characters are popular and unpopular using terms borrowed straight from Hello! Project idol fandom — ‘popular members,’ ‘unpopular members,’ ‘gachikoi’ (die-hard, deeply-in-love stans), and ‘antis’ (haters). It kicked off with an image of a customer poll held at the Lashinban store in Shinjuku, where Usagi came out on top, surprising a lot of posters. Meanwhile Rakko-sensei got called out as unpopular, with people unsure whether it’s ‘the looks or the personality.’ Some also questioned why Momonga, despite having a similar look, is so much more popular.

What people said

The popular ones are Usagi and Momonga, though Momonga catches flak too.
Some people are hardcore 'gachikoi' for Kurimanjuu,
while apparently even model-student types like Shisa and the Secondhand Bookstore guy have haters…

The one who's genuinely unpopular is Rakko-san.
Dunno if it's the looks or the personality,
but Momonga looks about the same and it's popular, so that's a mystery.

Re: #9
Yeah, he's just not for people who want something cute.
And his voice is weirdly handsome-sounding too.

@The Chiikawa poll results are up at Lashinban Shinjuku! Usagi, as expected (i ω i)(i ω i)

Re: #10
I thought Hachiware was #1… guess it's Usagi.

Re: #10
Wait, there's a Lashinban inside a Marui department store now?
Sign of the times.
29AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:57
Re: #10
I sense some malice in the choice of Chiikawa picture there.
14AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:47
Siren → Dambara
Shima Jiro → Inoue Re
Mermaid → Ebamifu
15AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:48
Re: #14
The one that got simmered in soy sauce was probably Risachika.
16AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:49
Usagi → Ma-chan
18AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:51
Re: #16
Well, she's a popular member after all.
19AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:51
Re: #16
I'd say more Nina than Ma-chan.
23AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:53
Can even grandpa enjoy this stuff?
31AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:58
Re: #23
It's wearing the skin of a cute character, but the content is basically Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment.
36AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:03
Re: #23
I'd argue adults are the ones who'll enjoy it most.
28AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:55
Rakko → Maekoko
32AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:58
Re: #28
Wadasako: 'What even is a rakko (sea otter)?'
37AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:04
The real 'yumejoshi' (self-insert fangirl) pick has to be Rakko-sensei, no objections allowed.
38AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:05
Re: #37
Apparently there's self-insert fan fiction ('yume shousetsu') for Kurimanjuu and Momonga too, but…
39AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:06
Re: #38
Give me more Kuri x Shisa married-couple content, please.
56AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:26
Re: #38
Self-insert fanfic though — that's hilarious.
48AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:15
Even knowing the inside is sleazy, I can't cheer for a Hello! Project member who's only cute on the outside, so I can't root for Momonga.
But I do hope the real one comes back someday and gets along with everyone again.
And I hope the Dekatsuyo currently inside turns into a good kid too.
52AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:21
Re: #48
The moment the Dekatsuyo inside develops a conscience, I want them shoved back into their original body and hunted down.
51AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:20

Grew mold and failed the Level 5 houseplant certification.
60AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:28
Shima Jiro is actually pretty toned for his build.
He's basically a buff, big guy.
67AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:35
Re: #60
Then let's go with Haga.
62AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:32
What about Haru-san?
64AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:33
Re: #62
Next-gen Chiikawa —
Hachiware would be Yumigeta
Usagi would be Yamazaki
65AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:34
Re: #62
I feel like, aside from being a hard worker, Haru-san's personality is pretty far removed from the Chiikawa crew.
If I had to pick, maybe Hachiware?
68AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:36
I want Momonga and Dekatsuyo to go back to normal, but…
since it's a character-merch business, I've resigned myself to the fact they never will.
70AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:37
Re: #68
In the 'Angel and Devil' episode you got a brief glimpse of what might be the real Momonga's personality, right?
69AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:36
I love the theory that Kurimanjuu is secretly a former top-ranked hunter — good enough to team up with Rakko — and covers drinking money from their old earnings.
It's true that Chiikawa can barely scrape together a meal without winning a prize, so there's no way Kurimanjuu could drink Strong Zero every single day without real money behind it.
71AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:38
Re: #69
On top of that, they're on the selected rhythm-section unit.
There's a faint whiff of 'actually really good at their job' about them.
73AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:40
Rakko-sensei's late-20s energy is off the charts.
76AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:41
Re: #73
Feels like 26 or 27.
75AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:40
I still can't tell Chiikawa and Hachiware apart.
79AnonymousSep 2, 2026 00:43
Re: #75
The blue one is Hachiware.

Background and Key Points

Chiikawa is a manga by creator Nagano that started on social media, known for pairing an adorable art style with recurring, brutal plot elements like being ‘hunted’ and ‘twisted apart.’ The thread was sparked by an image of a customer poll held at the Lashinban store in Shinjuku, where Usagi placed first — prompting surprised replies like ‘I thought Hachiware was number one.’ The second half of the thread turns into a very Hello! Project-board style game, with posters borrowing Hello! Project fan terminology and member names to describe the characters’ personalities. Worth noting: the reasoning behind who counts as a ‘popular member’ or ‘unpopular member’ isn’t official — it’s purely posters’ personal opinion — and some replies are hard to follow unless you’re familiar with both Chiikawa and Hello! Project fandom context.
