  • New PSP Rumored to Have 8-Inch Screen, Internal SSD + High-Speed SD Card — 5ch: ‘It’s Basically a Reiwa-Era Game Gear’

Unofficial leaks report that Sony is developing a handheld, the “PS6 Portable” — essentially a new PSP — alongside its next console, the “PS6.” The PS6 is expected to stay above $1,000 due to soaring component costs, and the new PSP is drawing attention as a cheaper device that can still run PS4/PS5 titles. New information also suggests the screen will be around 8 inches, with storage following the Switch 2’s approach of internal SSD plus a high-speed SD card slot. On 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board, discussion kept going, mixing concerns that it would inherit the Switch 2’s weight and battery problems, debate over the leaked TFLOPS figures, and comments that it “looks like nothing but a Switch clone.”

Multiple sources have reported that Sony is developing a handheld gaming device, the “PS6 Portable” — essentially a new PSP — alongside its next-generation console, the “PlayStation 6.” Note that Sony has not officially announced either device by name, so for now this remains unofficial information.

As for the console PS6, its suggested retail price is expected to stay above $1,000 due to rising component costs, including memory. Because of this, attention is turning to the new PSP, which is said to support PS4/PS5 titles and would presumably be relatively cheaper, letting you “display on a big TV via a dock at home, and play on the built-in screen when out.”

Various new details about this new PSP have also surfaced, covering its processor, power consumption, and a storage setup described as “internal storage plus an SD card slot, like the Switch 2.”

If the leaked APU specs are accurate, they're going the low-spec, low-power route, so weight and battery life should land around Switch 2 level or a bit better.
But the specs themselves are nothing special either — above the Switch 2, below the Xbox Series S, and only catching up to Series S level by leaning on the newer architecture

    Re: #47
In the Moore's Law Is Dead leak that Tane (the article's author) is citing as his source, the PSP3's handheld-mode spec is 4.91 TFLOPS — so even in portable mode it's about 1.5x more powerful than the Switch 2 at full docked power.
The process node is TSMC N3P too, so it's not even comparable to the Switch 2's Samsung 8nm.
And architecture-wise, setting aside AMD vs. nVIDIA entirely, there's something like a 4-generation gap

If they release it as a mobile-device form factor, its real rival stops being the Switch and becomes UMPCs instead
    — people have been saying that for a while now

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This topic originates from multiple unofficial leaks claiming Sony is developing a handheld, the “PS6 Portable” (a new PSP), alongside the console “PS6” — Sony has made no official announcement of either. On pricing, the PS6 console itself is expected to stay above $1,000 due to soaring component costs like memory, and the claim that the new PSP will be “relatively cheap” is only a comparison against that baseline — it’s easy to mistake this for an actually affordable price. Where the thread split was over how much to trust the specs: some took an optimistic view of performance based on the TFLOPS figures, while others, citing differences between RDNA generations, argued those numbers were overrated. On the other hand, concerns about practical handheld issues like weight, heat, and battery life, plus the view that it’s just imitating the Switch 2, were common across many posts. CFW and emulation also came up, but these were discussed as general knowledge about modding existing hardware rather than anything specific to this leak.

  • U.S. Military to Livestream Firing Squad Execution of Fort Hood Shooter

On October 8, the U.S. Department of Defense announced it would livestream the firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army doctor sentenced to death for killing 13 people in a 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood Army base in Texas. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had previously said the execution would be carried out “publicly.” On the Japanese forum 5channel, discussion ranged from technical debates over whether hanging or a firing squad causes less suffering, to criticism that a public execution puts the U.S. on the same level as China or Iran, to counterarguments that Japan’s own death penalty system—which hides the execution process from outside view—is actually less transparent. Opinions clashed over the transparency of executions.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In the U.S., execution methods vary by state — lethal injection, hanging, or firing squad — and Texas has opted for the firing squad. Hasan is the former Army doctor sentenced to death for killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage. The thread split over whether livestreaming the execution is just as barbaric as public executions in China or Iran, or whether it actually reflects American-style transparency. As a counterpoint, some commenters noted that in Japan, executions aren’t announced even to the condemned or their families until the day itself, and reporters aren’t permitted to witness them. There was also mention of a firing-squad procedure in which some of the shooters fire blanks, though actual practice varies by state and facility and shouldn’t be taken as a confirmed, official procedure.

In another video, Posobiec asked Hegseth what death row inmate Hasan's last wish was.

Hegseth replied, "Who cares. See you on December 3rd." December 3rd is Hasan's scheduled execution date.

As a rule, punishment can only be carried out under the law of the state where the crime happened,
so you can't transfer a prisoner from a state without the death penalty to one that has it just to execute them.
That said, for federal crimes, if a federal court hands down a death sentence, it does happen — but even then it's not about moving someone from a non-death-penalty state to one that has it; it's carried out under federal law at a federal facility that has capital punishment from the start.

We're hurtling down the road to depravity.
The day we become nothing but beasts that happen to speak human language isn't far off.

Background and key points of this story

The US military has not carried out an execution in 64 years — not since 1961, when death row inmate John Bennett was hanged for rape and attempted murder. Hasan, the former Army major now scheduled for execution, opened fire at a medical facility on base in 2009 while awaiting deployment to Afghanistan, killing 13 people and wounding 31; he later said it was revenge for US military action in the Islamic world. Because the case involves a member of the military, it was tried by court-martial rather than an ordinary state criminal court, and as several legally-informed posts in the thread explained, this brings in procedures different from the usual death penalty system — such as the question of transferring a prisoner across state lines to a facility with capital punishment. There were also voices questioning whether the announcement’s phrase “so that people can watch” meant a limited stream for victims’ families and other relevant parties, or a full public broadcast — this was left unclear. As of this report, the details of the stream’s scope have not been disclosed.

  • Japanese Companies and Government Agencies Hit by a Cyberattack Every 13 Seconds — AI Blamed for the Surge

Companies, universities, and government bodies like the Digital Agency have been hit by a string of cyberattacks one after another, with Times Car even suffering a leak of driver’s license data. According to a report by Kansai TV, Japan is reportedly targeted by cyberattacks once every 13 seconds, with AI cited as a driving force behind the growing automation and sophistication of these attacks. On 5channel, opinions split over how to respond — from praise for blocking overseas access and for “analog security” like fax machines and hanko stamps, to voices pinning the blame squarely on China or Russia, to real examples of attacks routed through domestic IPs used as stepping stones.

Well, embassies around the world still use fax machines, after all.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The “once every 13 seconds” figure was reported as last year’s data, and several commenters in the thread pointed out that “it must be even higher by now” — a reminder that it’s easy to mistake an annual statistic for the current rate. Most cyberattacks are carried out via IoT devices infected with botnets like Mirai, or through domestic servers used as stepping stones, which means the source IP alone can’t reveal an attacker’s nationality or affiliation. Given this stepping-stone structure, the simple fix floated in the thread — “just block China, Russia, North Korea, and South Korea” — would have limited effect. It’s also worth noting that the My Number system and the My Number Card are two different things: the former is a number compulsorily assigned to every citizen, while the latter is an optional card that individuals apply for and consent to create, with different liability implications in the event of a leak. The thread showed some confusion between the two.

  • Saeko and ONE OK ROCK’s Ryota Spotted Holding Hands in Korea

A photo tabloid reported that Saeko and Ryota of the popular rock band ONE OK ROCK were seen walking hand in hand during a trip to Korea. On 5ch, posters pointed out that Ryota divorced “Avril’s sister” last year, while discussion also spread to Saeko’s dating history, ONE OK ROCK’s current popularity, and even comparisons between the Japanese and Korean music scenes.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Ryota has previously been reported dating and marrying partners from overseas, and his divorce from “Avril’s sister” mentioned in the thread reportedly happened last year. Saeko is also well known for her marriage to and divorce from a former pro baseball player, putting her in a position where her relationships easily become news. Opinions in the thread split over how to view the relationship itself, with some joking about the age and height gap and others not seeing any particular problem with it. The discussion also drifted off-topic into comparing how far ONE OK ROCK and Korean-origin bands have gotten overseas, though no concrete figures on audience numbers or sales were offered to back this up, so it remains largely a matter of impression. Note that some posts contained unsubstantiated claims, discriminatory language, and references to unconfirmed individuals, none of which have been reflected in this article.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“All Night Nippon X” is a late-night radio slot that Nippon Broadcasting runs aimed at younger listeners. The ranking battles over ratings metrics like “Core,” “Cross,” and “Zero” — which came up repeatedly in the thread — are closely watched by Sakamichi (Nogizaka/Sakurazaka/Hinatazaka) fans as a gauge of each featured idol’s popularity. As for the high school with the entertainment-focused course that Ebata is said to have attended, there are several schools known for having many celebrity classmates, such as Horikoshi High School, and it isn’t unusual — even outside the Sakamichi groups — for multiple idols to end up as classmates. Centered on Yoko Shogenji and Hizaki Ebata’s friendship dating back to high school, the thread listed off several current Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46 members who were Ebata’s classmates, drawing interest in these personal ties that cross group lines. At the same time, the thread also contained posts unrelated to the main topic — off-topic political one-liners and remarks looking down on the fan base among them — and this article leaves those out, focusing only on the friendship angle and the radio-show discussion.

  • Thread Count on 5ch Plummets: “Without Bump Bots Keeping Them Alive, Dropping Below 300 Is Normal”

A thread titled “Isn’t the number of threads being kept alive dropping somehow?” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, sparking discussion about a sudden board-wide drop in retained thread counts. Commenters pointed to a board-wide restriction halting script-based automatic thread bumping as the main cause, reporting that long-preserved Makino-related threads and old live-commentary threads fell out of the archive (dat-ochi) one after another. At the same time, some questioned why even threads that should’ve drawn attention — like Juice=Juice’s official announcement thread — got buried and dropped too, splitting opinion between those welcoming the end of the bumping and those mourning the loss.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

5ch boards have a cap on how many threads can be kept alive at once, and as new threads appear, the oldest ones get pushed out and fall into the archive (dat-ochi) in order. Normally, even low-traffic chat threads can stay within that cap indefinitely by having a script repeatedly bump them with mechanical posts (“hozen”), but this time that bumping itself appears to have been stopped by a board-wide restriction. Posters in the thread noted that anti-fan threads and already-finished live-commentary threads that had been unnaturally kept alive by bumping dropped all at once — while, oddly, announcement threads that had nothing to do with the bumping also got buried and lost. This revealed that a high thread count wasn’t necessarily a sign the board was genuinely active. Reactions were split between those welcoming the end of the bumping and those lamenting the useful threads that got buried along with it.

※This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Isn’t the number of threads being kept alive dropping somehow?“.

  • Yankees Eliminated in Division Series — 5ch: “We’re Losing to the Dodgers on Spending Power”

The New York Yankees were eliminated from the MLB playoffs after losing three straight games to the Tampa Bay Rays in the Division Series. Game 3, played at home, ended in a 3-4 loss, closing out their season. According to the New York Post, star slugger Aaron Judge has demanded that the front office pursue aggressive roster upgrades. Following the report, discussion on 5ch ranged from laments over the team’s financial disadvantage compared to the Dodgers and Mets, to frustration with long-serving GM Brian Cashman, to hopes that the team might sign Japanese players like Teruaki Sato.

Yankees Eliminated in Division Series: Judge Demands Front Office Make Aggressive Upgrades — “I Want Them to Do Everything Necessary”

The New York Post reported on the 8th (Japan time) that Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, 34, called on the team’s front office to pursue aggressive roster improvements following the club’s elimination from the Division Series.

The Yankees lost 3-4 to the Rays at home on the 7th (the 8th in Japan), ending their season with a three-game sweep in the Division Series.

Baseball players tend to keep a pretty low profile (financially, outside the game)

    Background and Key Points

It’s true that the Yankees haven’t won a championship since Hideki Matsui helped them to the 2009 World Series title — a point that lines up with the thread’s “haven’t won since Matsui” remark. In recent years, the Dodgers and Mets have pulled ahead in financial resources following ownership changes, and the Yankees have increasingly found themselves on the back foot in big-money bidding wars. Judge’s call for more aggressive spending comes against that backdrop, and the criticism of GM Brian Cashman follows the same logic. On the other hand, the mentions of Japanese players like Teruaki Sato and Munetaka Murakami are purely wishful thinking and jokes from 5ch users — there’s no indication the club itself has made any concrete approach, which is easy to misread. Likewise, lines like “Otani is just a bonus that comes with Yamamoto” aren’t meant as serious criticism but as self-deprecating, tongue-in-cheek banter — overall, the thread mixes genuine grievances with plenty of joking around.

  • “Music Station” Taps Announcer Kurumi Tani as New Sub-MC — 5ch Stunned by Age Gap with Tamori

TV Asahi announced that Kurumi Tani (23), an announcer who joined the company this past April, will become the 8th sub-MC of its music program “Music Station,” starting from October 16. Tani reportedly said she had watched the show since childhood and had wanted to be involved with it even before joining the company. On 5ch threads, there was a flurry of comments pointing out the age gap with 81-year-old Tamori, as well as the show’s structure in which the main host never changes while only the sub-MC is periodically replaced; the fact that Tani was known for hosting the weather segment on a local Kansai program also became a topic of discussion.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Music Station is a long-running show where host changes are rare — the main host, Tamori, has stayed essentially fixed since the program began, while Tani is now the 8th sub-MC, a role that has rotated through female announcers every few years. Many younger viewers reportedly didn’t know the show’s original hosts were Hiroshi Sekiguchi and Rie Nakahara, and plenty of comments dug into the show’s history. The thread split between those who saw the sub-MC-only rotation simply as a natural generational handover, and those who took issue with the fact that only the woman is expected to keep getting refreshed with a younger face; the fact that Tani herself had a background doing the weather segment on a Kansai local show — something not widely known within the thread — was part of what fueled the reaction.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou Sports Breaking News+) thread “[Entertainment] TV Asahi’s “Music Station” Names Announcer Kurumi Tani, Who Joined This April, as 8th Sub-MC — Appearances Begin on the 16th.”

While riding the Saikyo Line, a man sitting across from her had been covertly photographing her without her knowledge; a male and female office worker sitting nearby noticed, confronted him, made him delete the images, and then took him to the station staff office. On 5ch, discussion centered on whether this sequence of actions followed proper procedure and on the scope of the 2023 law criminalizing voyeuristic photography. At the same time, many comments questioned the credibility of the post or remarked on Yasui’s appearance.

    9AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:40
So what happened to the guy after they caught him?
    11AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:42
These days, if you've got a photo of someone fully clothed, you can even generate fake porn videos out of it.

If that's the case, couldn't he just use her gravure (glamour) photos instead?
    12AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:43
Oh, glad to hear she's doing well! Isn't she the one who got into an on-stage altercation with a drunk Takuro fan at the Folk Jamboree?

My bad, I mixed her up with Minami Yasuda.
    17AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:46
How else are you supposed to prove it happened without bringing the victim along?
    21AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:48
For sneaky, cowardly criminals like this, they should just make it legal to beat them senseless on the spot.
I want to land my well-trained, righteous fists on guys like that.
    24AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:50
A self-appointed justice warrior who isn't even the victim making a citizen's arrest without the actual victim present?

Isn't that the real crime here? Or is this whole story made up?
    28AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:53
This looks like it could just be a fan asking for an autograph and a handshake.

I can't fathom the nerve it takes to drag someone all the way to the station staff office over that. Railway staff and conductors basically function like police, after all.

"The Act on Punishment of Photographing Sexual Body Postures, etc. (the Voyeuristic Photography Act) is a law that took effect on July 13, 2023 (Reiwa 5), strictly punishing sexual voyeuristic photography as well as the distribution and storage of such images."

    According to that…

If simply secretly photographing a stranger's face — without it being a "sexual body posture" — counts as a crime, then the media would be committing crimes every time they film street scenes.

Groper trains — and of course it's the Saikyo Line lol. Japan's most notorious line for that.
    34AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:58
Normally the first step would be showing the photos to the actual victim and having her confirm, "yes, that's me," wouldn't it?
    35AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:59
I want to praise the guy for stepping in, but he botched the procedure.
You need to bring the actual victim along with the data intact when you take the guy to the staff office.

    Re: #35
Whether the victim is there or not makes no difference.
How are you clueless enough to post something that dumb with such confidence?
    37AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:59
So does he actually get arrested for this? If merely being caught on camera counts, outdoor livestreaming is basically normal these days too.
    71AnonymousOct 9, 2026 09:41
In the smiling still photo she looks kind of off-putting, but if this woman actually showed up in front of you in everyday life, you might think "I've never seen anyone this beautiful" and instinctively want to snap a pic with your phone.

Lol, sympathizing with the creepy trash voyeur.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The law at the center of this incident, the “Act on Punishment of Photographing Sexual Body Postures, etc.” (the Voyeuristic Photography Act), is a relatively new law that took effect on July 13, 2023. It penalizes photographing sexual body postures and similar acts, meaning that simply photographing someone who is fully clothed doesn’t automatically make it a violation. A citizen’s arrest also requires clear legal grounds, and for a first offense, even police intervention doesn’t always lead to an arrest. On 5ch, many comments pointed out issues with the propriety of the procedure and the scope of the law’s application, while plenty of others dismissed the story outright as a fabrication (“usomatsu,” meaning a baseless made-up post) with no real basis. Reports like this from celebrities tend to draw this kind of suspicion, but whether the post’s content is actually true can’t be judged from 5ch reactions alone.
