  • Yuta Nakayama Set for Serbia Move — 5ch Reacts: ‘But He’s on 300 Million Yen at Machida?’

Machida Zelvia (J1) defender Yuta Nakayama (29) has left the team ahead of a transfer to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade, it was announced on the 26th. The transfer fee is estimated at around 180 million yen.

Reactions on the forum were split over the move: some questioned the football logic (“why go out of your way for a so-so player like Nakayama?”), others lamented him walking away from such a sweet deal (“he’s making 300 million yen a year at Machida”), and still others worried about unpaid wages and tax issues.

    Sankei Sports, 2026/08/26 17:48

Machida Zelvia (J1) announced on the 26th that former Japan national team defender Yuta Nakayama (29) has left the team to handle the paperwork and preparations for a transfer. The club says it will make an official announcement once things are finalized.

According to Serbian and other European media, the move is all but confirmed to be to Red Star Belgrade, a powerhouse club in Serbia’s top flight. The transfer fee is believed to be around 1.1 million euros (roughly 180 million yen), with the final details of the contract reportedly being ironed out.

With so many players out there in the world, why on earth would they go out of their way to sign a so-so player like Nakayama?
    5AnonymousAug 26, 2026 20:59
This club's basically the go-to spot for Korean players, isn't it?

The transfer fee's way too cheap.
Can't they just refuse to sell him for that price?

    He's over 30, so a multi-year deal is a risk.

If it's Red Star he's going to, honestly feels like staying at Machida would've been the better move.
    17AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:08
Sounds like he wants back into the national team, but he's not exactly young anymore — no way that happens from a Serbian club.

My only impression of the Serbian league is that they don't pay salaries.

Maybe he just admired Stojković and wanted to play in Serbia.
His career's winding down anyway, so that's a legit choice. Though it does feel like it takes him further from the national team.
    22AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:11
I can already picture the future where he's fighting over unpaid wages.
    24AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:12
He won't get picked for the national team from Machida.
And he won't step up playing in Serbia either.
Should've just stayed put at Machida.
    26AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:14
Serbia isn't really a league you go to at the tail end of your career,
and to step up from there to a major league you'd need Golden Boot-level numbers like Asano put up.
If he wants back on the national team, staying at Machida and shining whenever the domestic-based guys get called up was probably his only real shot.

These days there's apparently a system where you punch in the type of player a team needs plus the budget, and it pulls up suitable candidates from players worldwide —

Given his age, this is probably his last shot in Europe.
    34AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:17
He can play center-back, full-back, and defensive mid, he's left-footed, can take free kicks, and has a track record in the Eredivisie, the Championship, and the national team —
honestly, by any normal logic there should be plenty of demand for a guy like that.

Splitting an already-cheap transfer fee over 3 years, lol
Doubtful they'll pay the whole thing.

    Background and Key Points

Machida Zelvia is the J.League club owned by mobile-gaming giant DeNA, whose deep pockets fueled a rapid rise from J2 to J1 in 2024 and a reputation — among rival fans on 5ch — for outspending its results, with commentators here repeating that Machida is known more for salaries than for on-pitch quality. Red Star Belgrade, by contrast, is one of the two dominant clubs in Serbia’s SuperLiga (with rival Partizan) and a genuine continental heavyweight, having won the European Cup in 1991, Yugoslavia’s last before the country’s breakup — a pedigree the thread never brings up despite framing Serbia as a backwater “tax league.”

The split in the thread isn’t really about whether the move makes sense on paper; it’s between posters questioning the football logic (why pay a fee at all for a 29-year-old squad player) and posters fixated on the money, repeatedly citing an unverified “300 million yen at Machida” figure to argue he’s downgrading financially for a move to a league they associate with delayed wages and low pay.

What the thread misses is that Japanese club salaries are not publicly disclosed, so the 300-million-yen number circulating is speculation, not reported fact — nobody in the thread cites a source for it. Readers should also know the low, roughly 180-million-yen fee for a full international more likely reflects an exit clause or a player pushing to leave than the market undervaluing him, which the “why so cheap” posts don’t consider.

  • Giants’ Kai Delivers Go-Ahead Blast, Yakult Drop 5th Straight as Race for 3rd Turns Chaotic — 5ch: ‘That Swing Was Worth ¥300 Million’

In Central League action on August 26, the Yomiuri Giants defeated the Tokyo Yakult Swallows 5-3, with Takuya Kai’s go-ahead hit in the 8th inning proving to be the deciding run. The loss was Yakult’s fifth in a row, leaving the Central League’s 3rd-through-6th place teams separated by just 1.5 games in a chaotic scramble. The thread lit up over the go-ahead knock from Kai, who had been mired in a .077 batting average this season.

    Re: #79
Chunichi's strong at home but weak on the road, so they won't survive the Climax Series (Japan's postseason playoff)

    Background and Key Points

The Central League’s pennant race sits atop a six-team structure where only the top three advance to the postseason Climax Series, so the “3rd through 6th, 1.5 games apart” scramble mentioned here is really a fight for the last playoff berth, not for the title itself — the Giants are chasing Hanshin Tigers for 1st, while Yakult, Chunichi, DeNA, and Hiroshima jockey for the remaining spots. Yakult started the season well enough that some 5ch posters were predicting a title run in the spring, which is why the “no eye for the game” ribbing in the thread lands as retrospective mockery rather than fresh commentary.

The actual disagreement in the thread wasn’t about the final score — it was about how much weight to put on Takuya Kai’s hit. Kai has been batting .077 all year, so posters split between reading his go-ahead knock as a genuine sign the Giants’ bench players are finally contributing (the “team-wide effort” comment) versus treating it as a fluke that happened to land during a chaotic stretch, not evidence of a turnaround.

What the thread doesn’t spell out for outsiders is the Giants’ managerial situation driving the joking references to “Matsui” and “Hara.” The team is currently run by an interim manager, with Hideki Matsui long rumored as the eventual choice — but only once Yomiuri’s new stadium opens in 2032, meaning a surprise title run this year wouldn’t actually accelerate that succession plan, contrary to what the joking tone might suggest to an outside reader.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geisoku+) thread ‘[Baseball] CL S 3-5 G [8/26] Giants’ Kai hits go-ahead HR, Martinez notches his 248th career save, Yakult drop 5th straight, just 1.5 games separate 3rd through 6th place‘.

  • Ministry Seeks Tax Reform to Curb Speculative Condo Trading

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has reportedly decided to include measures to curb speculative trading of newly built condominiums in its tax reform requests for fiscal year 2027. Currently, properties sold within five years of purchase face a heavy capital gains tax, and tightening this rule appears to be the focus. On 5ch, users traded worries about a repeat of the Heisei-era bubble collapse against claims that the real driving force behind speculative money isn’t Chinese buyers but Taiwanese investors and wealthy Japanese individuals and flippers.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has decided to include measures to curb soaring prices of newly built condominiums in its fiscal 2027 tax reform requests. The move addresses how speculative condo trading, disconnected from genuine housing demand, has been pushing up real estate prices in urban areas.

The ministry explained the plan at a Liberal Democratic Party meeting on the 25th. The specifics will be worked out by the ruling coalition’s tax panel by the end of the year. Currently, selling a condo within five years of purchase triggers a heavier capital gains tax.

    Re: #183
Japan's already a developing country at this point.
The yen barely has any credibility left, which is exactly why prices are like this.

    Background and Key Points

Japan’s capital-gains tax on real estate has long turned on a five-year holding-period line: sell within five years and “short-term transfer income” (tanki jōtō shotoku) is taxed at roughly 39% combined national and local rates, versus about 20% once you clear five years. That gap has existed for decades and has always shaped how flippers time their exits rather than stopping speculation outright. What MLIT filed on August 25 is a request to tighten that existing five-year rule as part of the FY2027 tax reform process — ministries submit requests over summer, the ruling coalition’s tax panel hashes out specifics by December, and any change would only take effect from around spring 2027, not immediately. The backdrop is the late-1980s Heisei bubble, whose 1990 collapse (following land-related lending curbs introduced too late) opened three decades of stagnation that Japanese commentators still invoke reflexively whenever land-price intervention is discussed.

The thread’s real disagreement wasn’t over whether to act, but over who is actually buying: one camp blamed Chinese capital and tied the timing to Komeito’s exit from the coalition, while others cited survey data showing Chinese investment cooling for two years, Taiwanese buyers now over half of foreign purchasers, foreigners only ~3% of buyers overall, and domestic wealthy individuals and flipping realtors as the bigger force in high-end Tokyo condos.

What nobody raised is the domestic supply side: years of near-zero rates (only exited in 2024), plus labor and materials shortages driving up new-build construction costs, have pushed prices up independent of any foreign money at all — making “foreign speculators” a much smaller part of the story than the thread’s framing suggests.

  • Is a PS5 with 1TB Storage a Bargain at ¥55,000? 5ch Erupts Over Actual Usable Capacity

A post claiming “you can buy a PS5 with 1TB of storage for ¥55,000” went viral on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board. While some praised the price as a steal compared to buying PC parts separately, others pointed out that against the advertised 825GB, the actual usable capacity is only around 667GB — sparking a heated argument over how to interpret the storage figures.

Claims that the PS5 has reached RTX 3060-class performance, plus price comparisons noting a standalone GPU alone costs over ¥60,000, only fueled the cost-performance debate, which never reached a consensus.

The NAND chip installed is 768GiB (825GB). After setting aside over-provisioning space, what's left for the user is 715GiB (768GB).

Every other manufacturer sells this exact SSD labeled as 768GB — only "Shitty Sony" (a common 5ch insult pun, "クソニー") labels it 825GB.

For the PS5, after the system takes its cut, the user is actually left with 667GiB (716GB).

If the over-provisioning matches what normal SSD makers use, that means the PS5's system is hogging 48GiB.

    97AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:54
    Re: #87
Pretty sure it was something like 800GB.

    Background and Key Points

The PS5’s storage math checks out but rarely gets explained in English-language coverage: the console ships with an 825GB (or 1TB on the newer “slim” revision) SSD, but Sony reserves a chunk for the system, firmware, and — critically — over-provisioning, the standard SSD-controller practice of setting aside raw NAND for wear-leveling and error correction. That leaves roughly 667GB actually usable for games and saves. This isn’t a Sony-specific scam; every SSD maker under-reports usable capacity relative to raw NAND for the same reason, though as posters noted, competitors typically label the drive by its post-overprovisioning figure rather than the larger raw number, which is part of why Sony’s 825GB/667GB gap feels more jarring by comparison.

The thread’s real fault line wasn’t whether the ¥55,000 price is good value — almost everyone agreed a PC build with comparable GPU, CPU, SSD, and controller costs more piecemeal — but whether advertising “825GB” is honest when only 667GB (or by one poster’s more technical breakdown, 667GiB) is usable. That escalated into a tangent about whether PS5 performance genuinely rivals an RTX 3060, a claim posters challenged for lacking any cited benchmark, which nobody in the thread actually produced.

What’s likely to confuse outside readers: this is not new information. The 825GB-vs-667GB usable-capacity gap has been public since the PS5’s 2020 launch and is documented in Sony’s own specs; it resurfaces periodically on 5ch whenever a “PS5 is a steal” post goes viral, less because anyone discovered something new than because console-vs-PC price comparisons reliably bait the board’s recurring platform-loyalty arguments, visible here in the tangents about a banned-poster’s anti-physical-media crusade and the “Sokuho” board’s reputation for detached-from-reality PlayStation zealotry.

    Re: #135
    Seung-yeop's the man

    Background and Key Points

Giants catcher Kai Takuya carries the nickname “Kai Cannon” for his throwing arm behind the plate, not his bat — he’s a defense-first backstop signed as a free agent for a reported ¥500 million, which is why one poster calls the homer “worth every bit of that ¥500 million.” Yomiuri Giants and Tokyo Yakult Swallows are two of Japan’s oldest NPB franchises and perennial rivals; the game in question was at Jingu Stadium, Yakult’s home park in Tokyo, during a tight pennant race in late August. “Hashi-God” refers to acting manager Hashigami, and the running joke about “signs” (calling for a home-run swing) reflects how heavily NPB broadcasts and 5ch fans dissect in-game strategy pitch by pitch — something casual fans outside Japan rarely see discussed in this much granular detail.

The thread doesn’t actually split over whether Kai’s homer was impressive — everyone agrees it was a shock given his light-hitting reputation. The real friction is over what it means for his playing time: some want Hashigami to keep starting Kai over rivals Oshiro, Kobayashi, Yamase, and the currently-unusable Kishida, while others (see post 49) worry the manager will now overuse a catcher whose real value is defensive, not offensive.

What outside readers might miss is the comparison list in post 85: ranking Kai’s first hit of the season — a solo shot with no strategic weight — alongside Sakamoto’s walk-off three-run homer and Maru’s pinch-hit grand slam is largely tongue-in-cheek self-deprecation about how offensively thin the Giants have been this year, not a serious claim about the play’s importance, which is why another poster immediately calls it “weak sauce.”

    52AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:48
    Re: #25
    Huh? Kawashima wasn't picked, though?
The one who got picked was Ebata.
    26AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:23
Obviously, "Ketsuron kara Itte Chōdai" on Hello! Station had more of an all-star feel.
In DECA!BEAT, it's not that Ebata is background filler — it's that everyone else just has an unusually strong presence.
    27AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:25
If she's relatively less distinctive and has a weaker presence, isn't that basically the definition of "background filler"…
    28AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:25
I feel like Eba works as a nice accent in Juice=Juice, though.
Maybe it's because she's got such a strong image of squealing around with the younger members.
    31AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:27
So this is a team built around the "Kirara" roster, huh.
    32AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:28
Wait, was Homatan even in this?
    41AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:43
Goto's clearly a talent suited for outside work.
But if she wants a long career, she'll also need to build a solid fanbase within the Hello! Project scene.
This is probably a transitional phase where there's a lot to figure out.
    43AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:44
    Kamirena is small and cute.
Yumigeta stands out more than you'd expect.
    45AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:45
I thought Okamura was kind of plain, but seeing her like this, she's got pretty well-balanced stats.
    46AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:46
Makes me imagine what Kamirena would've been like in a world where she'd joined an existing group as its youngest member —

Not just that Ebata's in it — compared to her own group, there are simply more members close to her age here to begin with.
    58AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:50
Looking at this, Goto's visuals and performance are on par with any other group's ace,
so why can't ANGERME make good use of her?
    63AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:52
    Re: #58
Because it's the "Ise hell" (fan shorthand for ANGERME's Ise-dominated dynamic).

    Background and Key Points

DECA!BEAT is one of Hello! Project’s periodic “all-star” cross-unit projects, assembling members pulled from across the agency’s various groups — Morning Musume, ANGERME, Juice=Juice, BEYOOOOONDS, and the trainee ranks — rather than being a standing group with its own roster. UP-FRONT Channel is the official Hello! Project YouTube outlet that drops these choreography and MV clips, and “dance practice ver.” releases are a routine promotional format used to show off formation and choreography separately from the polished music video. Ebata, singled out here, belongs to Juice=Juice; Goto Hana belongs to ANGERME, a group fans jokingly call dominated by “Ise hell” — shorthand for member Ise Layla’s outsized presence within that group, which posters use to explain why Goto isn’t showcased more at home despite her ability.

The thread didn’t split over whether Ebata was in the back — everyone agrees on her positioning — but over why: some blame the choreography for genuinely sidelining her, others argue it’s simply that this particular lineup is unusually stacked with strong performers, making her look diminished only by comparison.

What’s easy to miss is that DECA!BEAT’s centers and formations say nothing about a member’s standing in her actual group; a strong showing here doesn’t equal popularity at home, and vice versa. The “mission-gated” video the posters mock was a marketing conceit — content teased as unlockable only if a fan-engagement goal was met — and the sarcasm stems from suspecting it would have surfaced eventually regardless of whether the mission succeeded.

  • Man Live-Tweets as Dating App Match Vanishes Into the Bathroom for Ages

A post about a date with a woman he’d met on a dating app went viral on 5ch after she stepped into the bathroom and didn’t come back for over 30 minutes. The incident took place at a restaurant on the 45th floor, and thread readers were split over whether to call an ambulance or just accept he’d been ditched.

    Background and Key Points

Man Waits 30 Minutes Outside Bathroom While Dating App Date Never Returns

Japanese dating apps like Tinder, Pairs, and Tapple have become one of the most common ways young Japanese people meet, and a “first date” arranged through them is typically a short, low-commitment dinner or coffee meeting, often at a casual, inexpensive restaurant — which is part of why posters in this thread zeroed in on the detail that the date was at a “cheap place” (150-149) rather than something matching the impressive 45th-floor night-view setting. That mismatch, small as it sounds, became one of the thread’s turning points: several posters treated it as retroactive evidence that the date was already going badly before the bathroom disappearance even happened.

The actual split in the thread was less about whether she left and more about what OP should do about it. One camp pushed a worst-case, duty-of-care reading — she could have collapsed and someone should call an ambulance or check on her — while another camp treated the vanishing as an obvious, almost comedic brush-off (the “20-meter poop” and window-escape jokes), telling OP to just accept it and stop hovering, since standing watch outside a women’s restroom door reads as alarming rather than considerate in Japan.

What the thread never really engages with is the mechanics of the app itself: a match made purely in-app, with no LINE ID exchanged, is trivially and permanently escapable — she can simply stop responding with zero social cost, no mutual contacts, no shared history, nothing forcing a real goodbye. That’s precisely the loophole posters gesture at (“she waited for you to leave your post”) without naming it directly: on these apps, disappearing is a built-in exit, not a dramatic act.

  • Who’s the Cutest in Hello! Project? OGs and Current Members Can’t Agree

    Re: #55
    Reina Tanaka's visuals are insane

    Background and Key Points

Background: Hello! Project is Tsunku’s idol agency umbrella founded in 1998, home to Morning Musume and its sister groups (Angerme, Juice=Juice, Tsubaki Factory, BEYOOOOONDS, and others). Nearly three decades in, it has an unusually deep alumnae bench — “OG” members who graduated (idol-speak for leaving a group, not quitting in disgrace) but remain fixtures in fan culture through reunions, solo work, and nostalgia content. Ai Takahashi and Reina Tanaka are former Morning Musume leaders/centers from the late 2000s “Platinum Era,” Momoko Tsugunaga anchored Berryz Kobo-adjacent group S/mileage, and Yuka Miyazaki and Yuka Maeda represent the Juice=Juice/S/mileage lineages — all acts that peaked commercially before many current members had debuted. Current-lineup names like Rio Kitagawa, Marii Makino, and Kirara belong to the present-day Morning Musume ’26 and junior groups.

The thread’s actual fault line isn’t idol vs. idol but era vs. era: multiple posters explicitly frame it as OGs versus current members (“OGs really do have more cute ones”), with nominations splitting cleanly along that generational line rather than by group or unit.

What outside readers will likely misread: “graduated” doesn’t mean disgraced or retired from entertainment — most OGs mentioned here stay publicly active, which is exactly why they can still win a cuteness poll decades later. Readers may also assume this is a ranking thread with real stakes, but it’s just informal nomination-dropping — no votes, criteria, or tally decide a winner, so “cutest” here reflects personal nostalgia and current fan-engagement biases (recency, screenshot circulation) more than any consensus metric.

  • Makoto Shinkai Thanks Fans as ‘Your Name.’ Turns 10 — 5ch: ‘Five Centimeters Per Second Was Better’

Director Makoto Shinkai shared his thoughts on X as “Your Name.” marks the 10th anniversary of its release. On 5ch, threads compared it to his other major works — with some arguing “Five Centimeters Per Second was better” — while others praised the film citing its box office haul and Academy Prize win. Meanwhile, comments dismissing him as a “one-hit wonder” drew pushback backed by box office figures.

    Wed, Aug 26, 5:20 PM

Director Makoto Shinkai (53) posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the 26th, once again expressing his gratitude as his blockbuster anime film “Your Name.,” which he directed and wrote, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its release.

“Your Name.” was released 10 years ago, on August 26, 2016. It earned roughly 25 billion yen at the box office, ranking 5th all-time domestically, and won Best Screenplay at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize — the first animated film ever to do so.

    82AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:31
    Re: #69
He started doing his own thing after that.
    Your Name. was the miracle.
    85AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:32
    Re: #69
He went on to put out two more 15-billion-yen films after that — is there any other 'one-hit wonder' like that in history?
And on top of that, a live-action adaptation of one of his lesser-known early works pulled in 2.5 billion yen.
    79AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:31

Three films in a row over 10 billion yen — that's insane.
And the population's shrinking by around 800,000 a year.
Miyazaki's about the only other person who's pulled off a feat like that.
His last film was 4 years ago, so a new announcement might be coming soon.
    86AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:32
People who got hyped over this creepy movie or Demon Slayer are definitely going to cringe at themselves when they're older.

    Re: #86
I'm old enough to have grandkids, and I genuinely love both Demon Slayer and Shinkai's work.
I'm even taking Friday off to catch the Madoka Magica premiere.

I was skeptical too, up until around the COVID years.
Watching Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan changed my mind.

    Background and Key Points

Makoto Shinkai’s “Your Name.” opened in Japan on August 26, 2016, months after the devastating Kumamoto earthquakes that April knocked out every theater in that prefecture — the reason one poster describes driving to Fukuoka to catch the opening. The film went on to earn roughly 25 billion yen, the 5th-highest domestic gross of all time in Japan, and won Best Screenplay at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize, the first animated feature ever to take that award. That milestone matters because Japan’s Academy Prize, modeled on the Oscars, had historically treated anime as a separate, lesser category from live-action screenwriting.

The thread doesn’t really argue about whether “Your Name.” is good — it splits on which Shinkai film should define him. One camp holds up the bleaker, unresolved “Five Centimeters Per Second” as his emotional high point, treating “Your Name.” as the polished, commercially safe version of the same romantic-separation formula. The other camp measures him by scale: box office, awards, and staying power.

What the thread underplays is that Shinkai isn’t a one-off case study — the “one-hit wonder” jab gets knocked down by posters citing his two subsequent films, “Weathering With You” and “Suzume,” each also grossing around 15 billion yen, a three-for-three run matched in modern Japanese cinema only by Hayao Miyazaki. Readers unfamiliar with Japan may also miss that the film’s “kuchikamizake,” the chewed-rice ritual sake one poster calls gross, isn’t an anime invention but references an actual, ancient Shinto-linked brewing practice tied to shrine ritual.

  • Nara City Councilman Hezuma Ryu Warns Attention-Seeking Youths: ‘Stop Before Your Life Falls Apart’

Nara city councilman Hezuma Ryu posted on X, urging young people who want to become famous by courting online controversy (“enjo,” going viral for bad behavior) to “absolutely stop, because it’ll wreck your life.” The remark came alongside his announcement of passing 1.5 million followers, but since he himself has a past as a nuisance YouTuber, reactions on 5ch were split between “look who’s talking” and sarcastic praise calling him “a genuine success story who landed a council seat and a salary.”

    8/26 (Wed) 18:00

Nara city councilman Hezuma Ryu (35) posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the 25th, offering a word of caution to young people eager to become famous even if it means courting controversy.

Hezuma wrote: “I started on social media seven years ago. Today my total follower count passed 1.5 million. I went down a crooked path, but who would’ve thought a nobody from Yamaguchi Prefecture would end up a politician? You really never know what life has in store.”

Wouldn't you call that being "disowned by the family," not "shunned by the whole village" (mura-hachibu, a traditional form of community ostracism)?
    7AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:38
    Re: #5
Wasn't the reason he got disowned that the neighbors kept complaining about him?
    8AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:38
He's the root cause of the bad precedent that you can become a city councilman just by going viral for bad behavior.
    10AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:39
But if you stream the normal, well-behaved way, you'll never climb the ladder, right?
Lick the soy sauce bottle at Kura Sushi (a chain hit by copycat "sushi terrorism" pranks) and you're famous overnight.

Doing that in an actual restaurant gets you sued by the company for damages — that's 100% the abyss route.
    11AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:39
Go say that to your "buddies" (lol) — the Yutapon father-son duo (another controversial YouTuber pair).
    12AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:41
Does this guy actually regret his life…?
    15AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:44
So, about that time he went to Kumamoto, took selfie shots making it look like he was working hard, then bolted straight back home.
People in Kumamoto are having an even tougher time right now with the brutal heat, but he completely ignored that.
As long as he gets the attention, that's all that matters to him!

What on earth were the people who voted this guy onto the Nara city council, and the people who support him, thinking?

"Don't end up like me," huh

What a cry from the soul (lol)

But you can still become a Nara city councilman? (lol)
    21AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:46
These days it feels like nuisance streamers are all following in Hezuma's footsteps —

chasing after the guy who turned it into the social status of a politician.
    24AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:47
The way he talks, you'd think he lived an upstanding life before he became a nuisance YouTuber.
    25AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:47
He's literally a sitting councilman right now??????????????????????????????
    28AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:48
Coming from a guy who somehow ended up a Nara city councilman, this has zero persuasive power.
You're the textbook case of infamy beating obscurity.
    29AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:50
His family got shunned by the whole village (mura-hachibu).
That's probably the part that hits hardest.
    30AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:50
Lately Hezuma Ryu's actually being useful.
    31AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:53
The guy has amazing drive and mental toughness — he just pours all of it into the wrong direction.
    37AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:56
There's a story that when Ishiwara Kanji lectured Muto Akira, telling him "Don't act on your own — follow the army high command's orders," Muto shot back, "But didn't you succeed by acting on your own without authorization?" (paraphrased)
    38AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:56
They act recklessly because they don't have a life worth losing in the first place.

Winning a Darwin Award would be the ultimate way to go out.
    43AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:03
How much did you make off of going viral for bad behavior yourself?
You just don't want more competition in your own line of work, do you?
    44AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:03
People writing "look who's talking" are only reading the thread title.

What Hezuma's basically saying is "I'm not a success story — don't end up like me."
    55AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:09
    Re: #44
For the wannabes hoping to hit it big as a nuisance YouTuber, get famous, and climb out of the underclass, Hezuma — who got famous and even landed a council seat and a salary — is exactly the success story they're aiming for.
    49AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:06
He seems to have actually been successful in sports back in his school days, and watching how he's handled run-ins with that big-name figure, he's fairly patient underneath it all.
If he'd skipped the whole baffling nuisance-YouTuber route and just worked a normal job as a sports-background company employee, he probably would've earned more in the long run.
    68AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:24
Apparently, after the whole Hezuma Ryu saga, TV networks quietly stopped reporting on YouTubers who cause scandals.
And even when they do cover it, they leave the person's name out.

Back in the day, Kato from the show Sukkiri said the same thing about the Hezuma incidents: "Honestly, we don't want to report this because it just ends up being free publicity for a criminal."
If you think of it as an advertising cost, a few weeks in detention is cheap.
    70AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:25
    Re: #68
Hezuma actually got a guilty verdict, you know.
    71AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:27
It's the same deal as that half-Japanese-half-foreign influencer and former pro boxer, or that ex-pro-gamer guy who said anyone under 170cm isn't worth living.
Oh wait, were those guys not exactly "youths" either?
Anyway, those types who post day after day, 365 days a year, insulting people just to get attention —
I really wish their social media accounts would get deleted already.

And what all those idiots have in common is
they're tough on the weak but can't say a word to anyone stronger than them — total cowards.
    Deep down, small, timid people.
    72AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:27
Even among the "go viral for controversy" crowd, some of them carefully script the whole thing out.
It was Google, of all things, that made that profitable and popular.
They played their part in the decline of public morals.
    75AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:30
    Re: #72
Honestly, X should just ban Hezuma's account already.

If he got banned from YouTube and X both, he'd have nowhere left to show off.

X has let him post a ton of photos he took of people without their permission too — I'd think that easily meets the bar for a ban.

    Background and Key Points

Nara’s city assembly, like Japan’s roughly 1,700 other municipal councils, has a strikingly low bar to entry: candidates need only a modest registration deposit and no party backing, and turnout in local races is often thin enough that a candidate with strong name recognition — earned any way, including infamy — can win a seat outright. That structural fact matters here, because Hezuma Ryu’s path to the council followed several years as one of Japan’s best-known “meiwaku YouTubers” (nuisance streamers), a genre built on filming oneself trespassing, provoking staff, or vandalizing property to generate “enjō” (flame wars) that drive views. He was convicted on charges stemming from that period, and the “mura-hachibu” reference in the thread points to a real, specific consequence: traditional Japanese village communities have historically cut off all but the most essential dealings with a disgraced household, and posters read his family’s ostracism as the actual rock-bottom his warning is based on, not just career damage.

The thread’s real fault line isn’t over whether his behavior was bad — everyone agrees on that — it’s over what his current life proves. One camp reads his warning as sincere, self-aware regret from someone who has seen the abyss. The other reads his own biography as disproof of his message: a nuisance YouTuber who parlayed notoriety straight into elected office and a public salary is, functionally, the success story that struggling attention-seekers are chasing, whatever he says about his intentions.

What the thread leaves out is that Japanese municipal elections don’t screen for reputation at all — an assembly seat is a low-turnout popularity contest, not a character reference, which is precisely how virality of any kind converts into a council win.
