  • Sony CEO: “No Need to Aggressively Sell PS5 Right Now” — 5ch: “That’s Basically a Demand Letter”

Sony Group President and CEO Hiroki Totoki, asked in a Wall Street Journal interview about aggressively selling the PS5, said “there’s no need to aggressively sell consoles right now.” Calling it “fortunate” that the PlayStation console is in the latter half of its lifecycle, he indicated Sony’s focus is on recurring revenue from a monthly active user (MAU) base of over 125 million, rather than pushing new hardware sales. Coming at a time when a semiconductor and memory shortage makes launching a new model difficult, 5ch took the remark as effectively a “declaration that there’ll be no production increase or price cut,” sparking debate over the timing of a PS6 launch and the emails nudging PS4 owners to upgrade.

Sony Group President and CEO Hiroki Totoki, speaking in the context of the PS5 and the memory shortage, said “there’s no need to aggressively sell consoles right now.” Having called it “fortunate” that the PlayStation console is currently in the latter half of its lifecycle, he explained that the focus is on recurring revenue from the current user base rather than aggressively pushing hardware sales.

In the Wall Street Journal interview, the question was framed around the fact that, with memory shortages affecting many companies, Sony wasn’t in a position to launch a new console the way a well-known rival was. In response, Totoki said it was “fortunate” that the PlayStation console is in the latter half of its lifecycle. He added, “That means there’s no need to aggressively sell consoles right now,” explaining that Sony is instead focusing on the recurring revenue generated by its current user base.

Totoki further stated that PlayStation has “over 125 million MAU,” and that how to monetize those users is what matters. According to Sony’s Q1 FY2026 financial materials, total PlayStation MAU as of June stood at 125 million accounts — an estimate of unique accounts that played a game or used an online service on PlayStation during the final month of the quarter, not a figure representing PS5 unit sales alone.

PS6 probably won't show up next year or the year after.
If they released it that soon, even selling at a huge loss it'd end up around ¥160,000 in Japan.
They won't release it until they can sell it in Japan for ¥99,800 tax included without the loss eating into profit.
    I'm predicting around 2030.

    Re: #133
If the chip price surge hadn't happened,
this fiscal year's sales target would've been around 13-15 million units anyway,
so 100 million was probably never really a goal, just a milestone they'd pass along the way

Background and key points of this discussion

Totoki’s remark reads less like an excuse papering over sluggish PS5 sales and more like an explanation of a revenue strategy for the latter half of the console’s lifecycle. The “125 million” MAU (monthly active users) figure Sony cited is from Q1 of fiscal year 2026, and it’s easy to misread — it isn’t a count of PS5 units in homes, but an estimate of accounts across the entire PlayStation platform that played a game or used an online service that month. The thread split between reading the remark as “code for the painful reality that chip and memory price surges are blocking PS6 mass production,” and reading it as “a rational management call to shift toward monetizing the existing user base.” On the timing of a PS6 launch in particular, the discussion drifted into some thin, cost-based speculation — including guesses that it could land around 2030 — so that part is worth taking with a grain of salt.

  • Fate/EXTRA Remake’s Publisher Switches from Bandai Namco to Aniplex — 5ch Reacts: ‘What Did You Do, Niitsu?’

Regarding “Fate/EXTRA Record” (the Fate/EXTRA remake), TYPE-MOON announced on August 31 that the title’s publisher is changing from Bandai Namco to Aniplex, with the development structure also being overhauled. It was also revealed that director Niitsu, who had been leading the project, is stepping down due to health issues. Niitsu is a developer known for titles such as Etrian Odyssey, Seventh Dragon, and Dragon Quest Builders. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, users debated why Bandai Namco was chosen as the original publisher, the background behind the project’s long development period, and the relationship between Niitsu’s track record and his health issues.

Both Etrian Odyssey and Builders were basically just "what if we did an old-school 3D RPG but with moe characters — wouldn't that be popular?" and "what if we did Minecraft but with Dragon Quest characters — wouldn't that sell?" That's about the extent of his ideas.
Even Etrian Odyssey 1, which he directed, launched buggy and shaky, and Seventh Dragon and the rest were pretty rough too.
He's probably better suited to talking a big game in advertising than actually directing one.
The original was just a low-budget PSP game — there's no excuse for a remake of that taking this long and still not shipping.

But if they don't step in, five to seven years go by with nothing to show for it, so they're forced to lay off staff at the studios under them — and then users lose their minds over that instead.

Background and Key Points of Discussion

This remake had previously been cancelled once before, and was later relaunched as “Fate/EXTRA Record.” This time, the announcement is that the publisher is moving from Bandai Namco to Aniplex, with the development structure also being revamped. Director Niitsu, who has worked on titles including Atlus’s Etrian Odyssey, Sega’s Seventh Dragon, and Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Builders, was officially revealed to be stepping away this time due to health issues. Opinions in the thread were split over whether responsibility for the prolonged development lies with Niitsu’s own project management or with TYPE-MOON’s development structure and the terms of its contract with Bandai Namco. While some praised his past track record, others suggested this may not be the first time he has stepped away citing health issues — though it should be noted that this cannot be confirmed without an explanation from Niitsu or those involved.

  • Toyota Demands Price Cuts From Subcontractors — 5ch: “They Even Give You Improvement Proposals”

Toyota has reportedly decided to ask its parts-supplying subcontractors to cut prices starting in October 2026. At the same time, there are reports that Toyota will actually raise the price of the steel it sells to those same subcontractors, and a 5ch thread kicked off with people asking “what’s the actual justification for the price cut?” That quickly gave way to a string of firsthand accounts claiming Toyota’s procurement staff don’t just demand cuts — they help suppliers with process-improvement proposals and even capital investment to make the savings possible. Commenters also compared Toyota’s negotiating style with Honda’s and Nissan’s, and opinion split between those calling it plain old subcontractor bullying and those pushing back on that framing.

Note: the steel Toyota sells to its subcontractors will be marked up.

Toyota's and Keyence's procurement staff go as far as presenting kaizen improvements to their subcontractors' operations, cutting prices while actually growing the subcontractor's profits too…

    Re: #73
Meanwhile, procurement staff at other companies who copy this apparently just parrot the same price-cut demand over and over without understanding why it works.
    88AnonymousAug 31, 2026 10:03
Toyota shows up to price negotiations with capital investment money for efficiency improvements already in hand, so subcontractors actually welcome it.
It's basically: "We'll provide this much funding and second this many staff to you, so install this much new equipment to boost efficiency."
And once you install it, they guarantee orders for a set period in return.
This kind of negotiation happens down to the second-tier subcontractors (magouke) too.
By the time you get to third- and fourth-tier subcontractors it might get rough, though.

So they basically consult for them.
What bugs me is they make the subcontractor buy the steel.

    Re: #88
Sure, this might be win-win for both Toyota and the subcontractor that takes the deal, but I still feel like the method itself is kind of underhanded.

This is exactly why every automaker besides Toyota is basically dead on its feet.
    148AnonymousAug 31, 2026 11:10
I work at a parts maker that does business with all the major automakers, so here's the breakdown:
    Toyota
The price-cut pressure is the harshest, but their dedicated cost-reduction department basically consults with you, and if you're lucky they'll even handle the equipment investment for you.
    Honda
The purchasing department pressures you with "why does it cost this much," but they don't actually understand anything, so it's easy — feed them a vague explanation and they'll believe it, since they're mostly clueless.
    Nissan
Engineers actually show up to the price negotiations, so if you try to bluff they'll often catch it, which makes it a pain.

    That's roughly how it is.
    149AnonymousAug 31, 2026 11:12

So Toyota really is the most capable one, huh?

    Re: #148
It's sad that Nissan — the most legitimate/by-the-book one — ended up the way it did.

Background and key points of this discussion

Demands for price cuts from subcontractors are a recurring flashpoint in an area the Japan Fair Trade Commission has long kept an eye on for “subcontractor bullying,” and the focus of this report was the asymmetry of Toyota raising the wholesale price of the steel it sells while simultaneously lowering what it pays for parts. Where the thread split was over whether the price cuts actually come bundled with improvement proposals and capital-investment support: firsthand accounts produced both a defense (“it’s convincing because Toyota pairs the cut with real proposals”) and a rebuttal (“in the end it’s still the subcontractor eating the cost”). Commenters also described differences in procurement style across automakers — Honda applies pressure without rigorously questioning the pricing rationale, while Nissan has engineers sit in on negotiations to scrutinize the numbers. Worth noting for readers: a “Toyota subcontractor” and a “Toyota subsidiary” are different in terms of treatment and status, and some commenters in the thread pointed out that the two were being mixed up.

  • Educational-background YouTuber “wakatte.tv” embroiled in fresh controversy over Fukushima University video remarks

The educational-background YouTube channel “wakatte.tv” (770,000 subscribers) is facing backlash after saying, in a Fukushima University campus survey video, that they “don’t want to let Fukushima University touch” the topic of nuclear power and radiation. The channel had only just weathered another controversy in early August, when Kyushu University professor Seiki Okazaki said he felt “strong disgust” toward the show’s habit of teasing students over how hard their university was to get into, going so far as to call for an apology and for the channel to consider shutting down. This time, reaction on 5ch focused less on the remark itself and more on the show’s whole format of ranking people by academic background for laughs, how YouTubers make their money, and the cast member’s own final educational background (a Kyoto University dropout).

Criticism is spreading on X over remarks made in a Fukushima University campus survey video posted on August 28 by the educational-background YouTube channel “wakatte.tv” (770,000 subscribers).

Headwinds continuing from a Kyushu University professor’s criticism

The channel had already become a subject of debate on social media since early August. It started when Professor Seiki Okazaki of Kyushu University’s Graduate School of Law said he felt “strong disgust” toward the show’s method of teasing students over how hard their university was to get into, and called for an apology over the discriminatory remarks and for the channel to consider shutting down.

Well, of course. A cram-school teacher is basically like a tradesman. There's a kind of rank and status in the world that's separate from actual skill or ability.

Background and key points of this discussion

“wakatte.tv” is a channel focused on academic background/pedigree with 770,000 subscribers, and one of its cast members is known as a popular instructor at Takeda Juku (a cram-school chain) who dropped out of Kyoto University. In early August, Kyushu University professor Seiki Okazaki publicly criticized the channel’s method of teasing students over how hard their university was to get into, even calling for an apology and for the channel to consider shutting down. This latest controversy, over remarks made in the Fukushima University campus survey video, was reported as a continuation of that earlier incident, but reaction on 5ch spread beyond the rights and wrongs of the remark itself to cover the show’s whole format of getting laughs by ranking people by academic background, and debate over YouTube’s business model of turning backlash into views and revenue. Opinions were also split over how to rate a “Kyoto University dropout” background — some said it’s “different from a high school grad,” others said it ranks “below a graduate of an F-rank university” — and the fact that commenters got so worked up over academic pecking order arguably put them on the same playing field as the very show they were criticizing.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Breaking News+) thread “Educational-background YouTuber “wakatte.tv” embroiled in fresh controversy — says about nuclear power and radiation: “We don’t want Fukushima University to touch this”“.

  • Juice=Juice’s Repeated NHK Appearances Spark Kohaku Hopes — 5ch: “Can’t Think of Anything Better Than ‘MoreMi’”

Juice=Juice’s string of 2026 appearances on NHK General TV — “Venue101,” “Nodo Jiman,” and “Uta Con” — including collaborations with Fuyumi Sakamoto and Mei Tamura, has become a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Some in the thread see this pile-up of NHK appearances as a sign the group is being lined up for its first-ever Kohaku Uta Gassen appearance, while others counter with a cooler take, pointing out that Morning Musume. also appeared frequently on NHK programs the year it was snubbed for Kohaku — proof that “number of appearances” and “getting selected” are two different things. Much of the discussion centers on the group’s new single “More! Mi Amore” (a pun on “moreru,” slang for looking fabulous), which many argue would make the perfect opening number for the red team, with the debate spreading to comparisons against other groups vying for their Kohaku debut.

Even if they do get their first appearance, I'd guess it'll be a solo slot.
Even that garbage agency should respect the group enough not to get greedy about it.

Back in the day, Musume. could appear "with" a bunch of other groups tacked on purely because of their string of hits.

One song blowing up is barely a topic yet — negotiating a joint appearance with a bunch of other groups at this stage would be a bit embarrassing.
    36AnonymousAug 31, 2026 12:36

To the general public it's more like:

Once you start forcing songs nobody actually wants onto the stage, that's the beginning of the end — they don't even realize it.

    Juice=Juice to appear on NHK's "Venue101" airing 9/5, performing "Kurakura☆Climax"
    https://kizuna.5ch.io/test/read.cgi/morningcoffee/1788015129/

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The lineup for NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen is announced every year in early December, and appearances on the network’s various programs are considered one selection factor, though not a decisive one. As pointed out in the thread itself, Morning Musume. appeared on NHK programs multiple times the same year it was left off Kohaku, so it’s worth noting as fact that heavy exposure doesn’t automatically translate into a slot. The “Are” (“that thing”) in the title is a phrase that spread in 2023 around the Hanshin Tigers’ championship win, and here it’s being used as a euphemistic code word for a Kohaku appearance. The thread split between those who see the NHK track record as a good sign and those who argue it’s no reason for optimism on its own — the latter camp’s discussion expanded into how selection criteria have shifted in recent years and predictions for the red team’s lineup. Note that this article excludes a series of replies that amounted to personal attacks on a specific YouTuber.

Paul’s Miracle Operation, which Tatsunoko Pro began airing in October 1976, finally received its first-ever Blu-ray release on August 28, 2026, marking the 50th anniversary of its premiere. The fairy-tale-flavored adventure anime follows Paul and friends as they journey through a mysterious world to rescue Nina, who has been kidnapped by the demon king Belt Satan; all 50 episodes originally aired. On the 5channel Geinou/Sports News+ board, the thread filled up with people humming the theme song, memories that “the story never seemed to move forward,” and comments that Belt Satan’s design is still scary today — reactions split sharply between the generation that watched it back then and those who’ve never heard of it at all.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Paul’s Miracle Operation’s broadcast premiere, the series’ first-ever Blu-ray release hit shelves on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Paul’s Miracle Operation is a TV anime produced by Tatsunoko Pro that aired a full 50 episodes starting in October 1976. Paul and Nina meet a stuffed toy that can travel back and forth to a mysterious world — but Nina ends up captured by the demon king Belt Satan. It’s a fairy-tale-style adventure fantasy anime made for kids with big imaginations.

Background and Talking Points on This Topic

Paul’s Miracle Operation is a TV anime produced by Tatsunoko Pro that aired starting in October 1976. Unlike the studio’s contemporaneous hero shows like Gatchaman, Casshern, and Polymar, it leaned heavily into fantasy aimed at young children. In the thread, reactions split sharply even among people of the same generation depending on whether they’d actually watched it — some vividly remember the theme song and Belt Satan’s design, while plenty of others said “I have zero memory of this” or “never heard of it.” Tatsunoko’s works were often made with overseas export in mind, and commenters noted that giving settings Western-sounding names is a trait shared with several of the studio’s other titles. It’s worth noting this Blu-ray release is a standalone move for this one title — it’s easy to misread it as a promise of reruns or releases for other old Tatsunoko shows, but that’s not guaranteed.

  • 24-Hour TV: 1,000 Cheer Runners Join Mari Hoshino’s Charity Marathon, TOKIO’s Joshima Sends Encouragement

“24-Hour TV 49” kicked off on August 29, and it was announced that actress Mari Hoshino, serving as the charity marathon runner, will set out from Nissan Stadium in Yokohama together with roughly 1,000 recruited cheer runners, aiming for Ryogoku Kokugikan. TOKIO’s Shigeru Joshima sent Hoshino a message of encouragement, saying “everything you’ve done up to now will push you forward.” On 5ch, reactions split between supportive comments and more cynical ones, with skeptical remarks about how donations are used and cast pay, along with wisecracks about the course distance and how the runners are treated.

Background and Talking Points on This Story

“24-Hour TV” is a charity special that Nippon TV airs every August, and a segment where a cast member travels a long distance has become a yearly fixture. This time, charity marathon runner Mari Hoshino heads from Nissan Stadium in Yokohama to Ryogoku Kokugikan, with the twist that she runs the first 4 kilometers together with roughly 1,000 recruited cheer runners. The show hasn’t disclosed cast pay or exactly how donations are used, so claims circulating in the thread — that she’s “getting paid big” or that funds are being “skimmed” — remain unsubstantiated speculation. Worth noting: this kind of criticism gets leveled at the show every single year, not just this time around.

  • How to Become a Manga Artist at 38 With No Drawing Experience? 5ch Debate Gets Heated

When the thread’s OP declared they’d aim to become a manga artist starting from zero drawing experience at age 38, the thread lit up with debate over strategy. Some pushed the traditional route — pitching to editors or posting on Shintousha — while others argued for the “wait to go viral” route: posting doodles on social media and hoping to get discovered. Opinions split on whether drawing skill is even essential, with some pointing out that “there are more manga artists with rough art these days” and others countering “that’s a completely different level.” Someone floated letting AI handle the artwork, but that drew pushback too, with critics saying it would make the story boring.

    Re: #92
The story is exactly the part that should be left to AI

Background and Key Points of This Debate

There are broadly two routes to becoming a manga artist: getting discovered by an editor through a publisher’s rookie award or a direct pitch, or building a following directly with readers via social media or web-manga posting sites. In recent years, success stories via the latter route have grown more common, with character appeal and pacing sometimes valued over drawing technique. Shintousha, mentioned in the thread, is a long-running site where amateurs can self-publish their work, known as a route distinct from pitching to editors. AI-assisted art generated plenty of discussion, but participants were split on when — or whether — it’ll become practical. It’s also worth noting that “let’s figure out how to become X” threads are a recurring 5ch staple, where the fun is often in the back-and-forth itself rather than how serious the OP actually is.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from a thread on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyō G (general live-chat) board: “A Thread About How I’m Going to Become a Manga Artist.”

  • Developer of Acclaimed RPG ‘Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’ Slams GTA6

“Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2” director Daniel Vávra told overseas media that GTA6 “has absolutely no interesting story,” sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (Geha) board. His remark describing the two protagonists as “just uninteresting sociopaths going on a killing spree” drew backlash from posters saying “how can you judge it when it’s not even out yet,” while others agreed with him, calling GTA5’s story “just following quest markers exactly as instructed.” The debate expanded into comparisons with GTA4, RDR2, and Yakuza.

KCD2 director criticizes GTA 6, says it has “absolutely no interesting story”

He describes the protagonists as “two uninteresting sociopaths committing chaotic mass murder.”

Daniel Vávra states that a great story needs complex characters, inner conflict, and strong motivation.

If the footage really delivers near-infinite possibilities, story included, then sure, you could call it a god-tier game.

Wait, is GTA6 actually expected to be great as a single-player game too?

RDR2 sold like crazy even though its online mode flopped, so yeah, I think people expect it to be great as a single-player game too.
I'm looking forward to it, anyway.
    52AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:37
GTA4 leaned more story-focused, but it barely sold compared to the rest of the series.
Though honestly, the terrible driving physics were probably the bigger reason.
    58AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:40
    Re: #52
The driving in 4 was genuinely broken lol.
And also the protagonist was just too serious.
I get it, he's a first-generation immigrant so it makes sense, but it didn't feel very "American."
    Needed to be dumber.
    55AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:38

    59AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:40
GTA5 is a game where the moment a quest starts, being open-world stops meaning anything.
Almost no quest lets you figure out your own way to get somewhere — "go to X" means going straight there is the only correct route.

If GTA6 seriously carries over this outdated system, it's a guaranteed shit game.
    72AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:51
    Re: #59
Well, to be fair, you have to remember GTA5 is a PS3-era game.
Open-world freedom really only blossomed starting with the PS4-generation open-world games, and GTA skipped that generation entirely, so it'll be interesting to see how much has actually changed.
    60AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:41
GTA5 really was boring, honestly — I just never felt motivated to finish the story.
I guess it's good for people with real-world frustration built up who want to go on a rampage, but that gets old fast.
Still, gotta give them credit for building out that whole city.

    Re: #60
Unlike 4, 5 doesn't dig deep into stuff like discrimination.
You could say how much you rate 5 basically comes down to whether you can like the character Michael De Santa or not.
    61AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:43
The sheer craftsmanship is amazing, no question — overwhelming even.
Even the Kingdom Come Deliverance devs admit that, calling it like a showcase of technology.

But that's genuinely all it is.
If you can find value in that and just go on a rampage having fun, I guess you'll enjoy it, but I can't.

    Craftsmanship, huh…

What's so crafted about a city full of cardboard-cutout buildings and houses you can't even enter…

Honestly, Yakuza lets you enter way more buildings.

Apparently most people who bought GTA5 never even cleared the story.
    68AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:46

    75AnonymousAug 31, 2026 09:56
Anyone can have whatever opinion they want, but is it really a good look for a game developer to publicly criticize another game like this?
No matter how legitimate the reasoning, criticizing a game as famous as GTA can easily come across as sour grapes, and it risks hurting his image and even his own studio's future sales.
    83AnonymousAug 31, 2026 10:11
    Re: #75
    Yeah, that impression is fair.
When SWERY (game director Hidetaka Suehiro) criticized Insomniac's Spider-Man, there were people getting mad like "well what about your own games then."
Though on the other hand, never being able to say anything just because the other side is a bigger name isn't exactly healthy either.
    79AnonymousAug 31, 2026 10:02
5 was originally built with a more comedic tone.
Looking at overseas reactions, opinions are pretty split — plenty of people who prefer 4's direction too.

    103AnonymousAug 31, 2026 11:05
    Re: #99
It's well-received overseas — the sheer volume of content is insane.
There's a ton to do, and even just the alchemy system is as complex as something out of Atelier.
You could basically play it as a realistic alchemy game on its own.
There's plenty to enjoy outside the story too, like gathering alchemy ingredients.

    Re: #99
KCD2 has a lot of passionate fans overseas and strong support from its userbase.
At last year's Golden Joystick Awards, in the GOTY category, the game that got the second-most votes after "33" was actually KCD2.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

GTA6 is a major title slated for release in North America, and the fact that these were a director’s comments made before the game’s release is part of why reactions on the thread were split. The critic is KCD2’s Daniel Vávra, known as a story-focused developer with a background writing the scripts for Mafia and Mafia 2. The thread split mainly over two points: (1) whether it’s fair to criticize an unreleased game, and (2) how to evaluate GTA5’s own story structure (a linear, quest-completion format). Some pointed out that GTA5 was originally a PS3/Xbox 360-era title, and that open-world freedom evolved significantly starting with the PS4 generation, which should be taken into account. There were also comments suggesting that a developer publicly criticizing such a famous title risks being seen as “self-promotion” or “sour grapes,” though this is a poster’s opinion, not an established fact.

  • 35% of Unmarried Youth Say They ‘Don’t Plan to Marry,’ Citing Income and Life Uncertainty — Survey of 44,000 Singles

A first-of-its-kind large-scale survey by Japan’s Children and Families Agency has found that 35% of unmarried respondents say they have no intention of ever marrying. The online survey targeted roughly 100,000 people nationwide aged 15 to 39, running from May 20 to August 5, with about 68,000 valid responses collected through July 23. Many respondents cited anxiety over income and changing circumstances as reasons for hesitating to marry. On 5ch forums, opinions split over taxing singles, whether to cut their pension benefits, differences in marriage rates between the “Ice Age” generation and the “Yutori” generation, and how the Children and Families Agency’s budget is being spent.

A first-ever large-scale survey conducted by the Children and Families Agency revealed on the 31st that 35% of unmarried young people say they have no intention of marrying.

Many cited anxiety over income and changing circumstances as barriers to marriage. Behind the declining birthrate lies not only shifting values among young people but also a broader trend toward staying single or marrying later in life. The agency plans to analyze the survey results in detail and use them to shape future policy.

To better understand the challenges and attitudes facing young people, the agency conducted an online survey of roughly 100,000 men and women nationwide aged 15 to 39, from May 20 to August 5. About 68,000 valid responses received by July 23 were compiled.

Genuine question for anyone who actually knows this industry —
will the falling birthrate cut into work for small/mid-size regional sash (window frame) manufacturers? Will they go under?

    Re: #6
High-performance resin-composite sashes for buildings: roughly flat to slightly down from 59,000 tons/year.
Traditional aluminum sashes for standard housing (60,000 tons): production is ending — not just halved, but headed to zero.
Resin sashes: net increase up to 60,000 tons.
That's the conclusion based on the earnings trends and market outlook of Fuji Light Metal, the OEM supplier for major sash makers YKK AP, LIXIL, and Sankyo Tateyama.

    For reference:
Under the April 2025 revision to the Building Energy Efficiency Act,
all newly built "non-residential buildings" — office buildings, stores, factories, schools, etc. — became legally required starting April 2025 to meet energy-efficiency standards,
so building-use sashes have already shifted to high-performance resin-composite.
Aluminum sashes, due to the regulations,
now have no building category left where they can be used.

Background and Key Points of Debate

This is the first large-scale survey conducted by the Children and Families Agency since its founding, and it stands out for asking young people directly about their own attitudes. In the thread, opinions split over whether the agency’s budget (some put it at around ¥7 trillion) is actually working as an effective countermeasure to the falling birthrate, with voices praising the rise in births clashing against those pointing out the figure includes foreign nationals. There’s also the observation that “the Ice Age generation did marry, but the marriage rate then fell off a cliff with the following Yutori generation” — a generational gap that tends to get overlooked when discussing the declining birthrate, and a reminder that “today’s youth” can’t be treated as one uniform group. Extreme proposals like taxing singles came up too, but it’s worth noting these are the kind of extreme takes typical of a forum thread rather than part of actual policy debate.
