  • Tsubaki Factory’s Otsuki Nishimura Skips Blog Again — Even on Her Birthday, Second Time This Month Sparks Debate

On October 16, her 16th birthday, Hello! Project idol Otsuki Nishimura of Tsubaki Factory once again did not post a blog update — and it became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. It marked the second missed update this month, and since many of her fellow members were busy exchanging birthday wishes on Instagram and their blogs, fans began questioning why she hadn’t. Some defended her, citing the pressure and preparation involved in the group’s upcoming first-ever Budokan show, while others argued busyness was no excuse. The thread split between posters who see blog updates as essential to idol culture and those who feel X and Instagram are more than enough.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In Hello! Project, each member’s Ameba blog has long served as a primary point of contact with fans, which is why update frequency and whether a comments section is open draw so much scrutiny. The explanation floated in the thread — that she’s busy preparing for her group’s first Budokan show — is pure speculation; she herself has said nothing on the matter. At the same time, she did respond to birthday wishes posted on X that same day, so skipping the blog doesn’t mean she’s gone quiet on social media altogether. The real divide in the thread comes down to differing values: those who hold blog culture central to idol fandom versus those who think X and Instagram are plenty. A few posters also speculated her blog entries might be ghostwritten by staff, though no evidence backed that claim.

  • Windows 11 Runs Smoother Even on 8GB RAM — Microsoft’s Fix Has 5ch Saying ‘It’s All About the RAM, Bro’

On October 15, Microsoft announced improvements to Windows 11’s memory management and responsiveness. On PCs with 8GB of RAM, the OS can now keep up to 2GB more data resident in memory that previously would have been swapped out to slower storage. The 5ch thread drew a wide range of reactions — nostalgic stories about how an 8GB (or even a 1MB) memory upgrade used to be treated like owning a “super PC,” complaints about today’s soaring RAM prices, and pointed remarks that the Weather app alone eats up 15-20% of total memory. Opinions split between those arguing Windows should simply be designed to use less memory in the first place, and those praising the move given how expensive hardware has become.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

This change reworks how Windows 11 manages memory — it doesn’t actually add physical RAM. On 8GB machines, it’s a mechanism that lets up to 2GB of data that used to be pushed out to slow storage stay in fast memory instead. The thread pointed out that “the Weather app alone eats up 15-20% of total memory,” suggesting that bloat in Windows’ built-in apps is directly tied to how heavy the OS feels overall. Opinions split between critics who say Windows should have been built lightweight from the start, and those who praised the fix given that “16GB of DDR4 jumped from under ¥4,000 to over ¥20,000 in a single year” — welcoming a solution that doesn’t rely on buying more hardware. One point readers might get wrong: this improvement isn’t really “gaining 2GB of extra memory” — it’s a memory-efficiency measure that reshuffles how existing memory gets used.

  • Taxis and Buses Can Now Refuse Abusive “Kasuhara” Customers — 5ch: “Passengers Should Just Sit There and Behave”

According to a Kyodo News report, a growing number of taxi and bus operators are moving to explicitly add clauses to their terms of carriage allowing them to refuse service to “kasuhara” (customer harassment) passengers. The move comes amid a string of cases where shouting and intimidating behavior have made it unsafe for drivers to keep working. On 5ch, opinions were divided over where to draw the line between a legitimate complaint and customer harassment, as well as how fares and safety should be handled when a passenger is refused service. Some pushed back, arguing it would go too far to brand every complaint about delays or poor service as harassment.

    Re: #8
    >2. Four key points for judging this

① Is there a legitimate reason for the request?

Asking for an explanation about a fare mistake, concerns over unsafe driving, or poor service is normally a legitimate complaint.

② Has the tone gone too far?

Strongly expressing dissatisfaction is different from making threats, insults, or personal attacks. Simply being angry doesn't automatically make it harassment.

③ Does the person keep it up even after being warned?

A single heated outburst is judged differently from someone who keeps hurling abuse or intimidating staff even after being told to stop.

④ Is it disrupting safety or operations?

Shouting intimidatingly while the vehicle is moving, interfering with the driver's controls, or refusing to get off and camping out for a long time — these are serious safety problems too.

That said, these points aren't meant to be applied mechanically one by one. Violence or concrete threats can be serious problems even without repetition.
    9AnonymousOct 16, 2026 02:29
Taxi companies kind of need to keep a few rough-looking drivers on the roster — if everyone's too mild-mannered, customers walk all over them.
Maybe that's exactly why companies keep tough-looking drivers around, for customers like this.
It's died down a lot lately, but back in the day there were often actual fistfights breaking out at stations and places like that.

Once the pandemic ended, trains got way more chaotic/dangerous. Part of the reason is that even as passengers came back, the railway companies never restored full service frequency — like the Keihin-Tohoku Line yesterday.

It's not even the last bus of the night to begin with — the malicious complainer is the one in the wrong.

    Summary of the news:

    • When/where: Late February 2026, aboard a Toei bus departing from Tokyo Big Sight.
    • What happened: As the bus was pulling out, a passenger trying to board last had the door close on them (or right in front of them), and shouted at the driver, "You could see me! Why'd you close it?!"
    • Why service was suspended: The driver, shaken by the intense shouting, reported, "(Given this intimidating behavior causing panic and severe stress) I'm not in a mental state to drive safely." After contacting the depot and getting permission, the bus was pulled from service on the spot, and all passengers had to transfer to the next bus.

Ah, that one's partly the driver's fault too — if you can see the person, you shouldn't close the door on them.

If you're going to call it harassment, then the service side should hold up its end of the trade-off too.
If they run on time and do their job properly and customers still complain, sure, that's harassment — but a company that runs late and then acts like "well, there's another bus coming anyway" is harassment in reverse.

Instead of just "sorry, we're delayed," they could say "we're delayed, but here's a detour," or immediately lay out whether taking the detour or just waiting is the better move. There's plenty they could actually do.

Under the Road Transportation Act and the Passenger Motor Vehicle Transport Business Operation Rules:
There's no direct provision requiring compensation to passengers for delays. Since public transportation inherently operates with delay risk built in, operators generally aren't liable for damages beyond the fare itself for ordinary delays (traffic, bad weather, etc.) that cause lateness or lost opportunities (missing a flight, being late to a meeting, etc.). Refunds and the like are basically handled according to each operator's own "terms of carriage."

Then let me ask — if something delivered to you arrived broken, or a promise was completely broken, would you be satisfied being told the same kind of thing?

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Measures against “kasuhara” (customer harassment) have been steadily strengthened in recent years across customer-facing industries like retail, healthcare, and public transportation, and spelling it out explicitly in terms of carriage is an extension of that trend. The main point of disagreement in the thread was the difficulty of drawing the line between a legitimate complaint and harassment, since it involves multiple intertwined factors — the content of the request, the tone used, whether it’s repeated, and the impact on safety — that resist a simple cutoff. The thread also didn’t dig deeply into practical issues specific to the transport industry, such as how fares get settled after a refusal of service, or how to secure driver safety when intimidating behavior continues. Since the concrete judgment of what counts as harassment is largely left to each operator’s own terms of carriage and internal standards, how to keep that application consistent across operators looks set to be the next point of debate.

  • Switch 2 Outsells PS5 on Both Kingdom Hearts HD and Dragon’s Dogma 2

A Famitsu survey published October 16, 2026 found that both Kingdom Hearts Collection and Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen sold more copies in their Switch 2 versions than their PS5 versions that week. Thread posters pointed to the PS5 version of Dogma 2 alone having a lower Metacritic score and its used buyback price dropping by half right after launch as contributing factors, with some praising the Switch 2 version’s reputation for running smoothly even in handheld mode, while others countered that if you already own the base game, you don’t need the old physical package just for DLC.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Famitsu’s weekly sales data mainly tallies physical copy sales, so it’s worth noting that digital sales aren’t reflected in these figures. In the thread, the PS5 version of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen scoring an 83 on Metacritic — versus 88 for the Switch 2 version — combined with its used buyback price getting cut in half right after launch, is cited as one factor reinforcing the view that “the port quality was poor.” Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version earned a reputation for running smoothly even in handheld mode, which may have helped drive sales. That said, claims like “there are no new users” are just speculation within the thread, and readers should keep in mind that Famitsu’s data itself only compares physical versions against each other.

  • EV Bus Gets a 10-Minute Fast Charge: Pantograph-Style Charging Trial Begins

Toshiba and partners have launched a trial of an EV bus that charges from above via a pantograph, just like a train. The system reportedly lets the driver complete a roughly 10-minute fast charge with a single button press, without ever leaving the bus, and media reports have billed it as “Japan’s first” pantograph-style charging. On 5ch, some pointed out that old trolleybuses worked on the same basic principle, while others questioned the “Japan’s first” claim, noting that the Kurobe Dam’s Kansai Electric Power Tunnel electric buses already use similar overhead-wire charging. Commenters also debated why the charging got so much faster and how durable — and costly to maintain — the pantograph unit would be.

A trial has begun for an EV bus that can be charged in about 10 minutes.

Toshiba and partners held a launch ceremony for Japan’s first EV bus capable of ultra-fast charging via a pantograph.

With the train-style pantograph system, charging happens from above the vehicle, and the driver can finish charging with a single button press without ever stepping off the bus.

If they can speed up charging that much, a regular plug socket would be fine.
Well, I guess since it's a bus — which is a special case — they figured a pantograph would let passengers stay aboard while it charges.

With trains it's constantly rubbing against the wire, which limits material choice and causes wear, but for something like this that's only used while parked at a stop, wear is barely a concern, so you get more freedom in material choice and the cost should be very low.

    Japan's first?
Don't the Kansai Electric Power Tunnel electric buses already fast-charge via pantograph?

    Background and Points of Debate

Pantograph-style charging repurposes the same high-current, high-voltage power delivery used by trains. Unlike trolleybuses, which need permanent overhead wires, this system reportedly connects only when needed, to a charging unit installed at a stop or similar location. Opinions on the thread split mainly along three lines. ① Why charging is so much faster — is it simply a matter of higher current, or a design choice to use a smaller onboard battery that’s charged more frequently? ② Whether wear and maintenance costs around the pantograph unit will become a real practical burden. ③ Whether the “Japan’s first” label holds up — some pointed out that the Kurobe Dam’s Kansai Electric Power Tunnel electric buses already use a similar overhead-wire charging system, though the article alone can’t settle whether there were genuine earlier precedents. The original article doesn’t offer a detailed comparison of charging methods or prior examples, so whether the thread’s claims are accurate is something that will have to wait on further reporting.

  • ‘Banshi Senko’ DLC Backlash Met With Cries of “You Never Even Played It” — Suspicion Mounts That Main Story Was Gutted for Paid Content

A clash has broken out on 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board over the new simulation RPG “Banshi Senko” and its add-on DLC: some X (formerly Twitter) users argue the main game feels thin on content, while others fire back that the critics are “haven’t-even-played-it” posers. The spark was a claim that even players who’ve already finished the game are split on how to rate it. At the center of the debate is whether certain support conversations being sold as DLC amounts to “a dishonest scheme that strips content from the main game to resell later” or “a perfectly reasonable bonus add-on.” Fueling the fire is a secondhand claim that developers mentioned in an interview cutting the roster from 8 playable characters down to 4.

It's just too sharp-edged a game to be a mainline numbered entry. Way too ambitious for an era full of kids raised on instant-dopamine games. I get why some people love it, though.

    35AnonymousOct 16, 2026 07:27
These days it's better to have DLC even if it means splitting content up. Look at Kirby Air Riders — it bragged about launching with no DLC, but interest cooled off fast, right?

DLC keeps people's interest alive longer, which means the fun lasts longer overall too. That's a strategy in itself.

If you'd actually played it, it's easy to guess the other 4 characters were being held back for DLC. Even the playable protagonists are conveniently written with few food dislikes, clearly tuned to make raising support levels easier.

    Re: #52
Right from the start there were 8 statues, but only 4 playable protagonists. Even in Part 1, characters who show up in the arena and side stories never get properly developed, and the support conversation slots feel threadbare. It definitely had the feel of stuff being cut — and apparently the devs even said something in an interview about scaling down from 8 characters to 4.
    59AnonymousOct 16, 2026 07:40
Dragging in a post that never even went viral just to desperately prop up a thread — regardless of which "side" is doing it, that screams guilty conscience and running out of ammo to defend their position. Not that different from those "expert commentary" threads.

It's actually got a decent number of likes though. Now, someone scraping together like 5 likes, sure, that'd be desperate — but with this many, it'd show up in people's "recommended" feed naturally.

    Re: #62
You clearly don't even know Fire Emblem — total haven't-played-it poser. Support conversations determine which ending variation you get. If you're going to claim Ishmael properly gets his story told as a protagonist, then not having a support conversation for the Ishmael/Orhel pair means it's unfinished.
    73AnonymousOct 16, 2026 07:50
    Re: #65
Most characters you recruit by scouting only reach a C or B rank with a handful of people — you basically never get an A rank unless they're from your own faction. Unlike same-faction characters, whose support rises naturally through training, feasts, and battles, it's the characters from *other* factions — who need food or gifts to raise support — where those "unexpected side" conversations really matter. Take Muu and Mikaela: despite being set up as parent and child across different factions, they get just a brief exchange capped at support rank B, with no special dialogue even during meals or training. That's way too sloppy a treatment.

I'm not denying some characters have gaps — why are you getting so worked up? All I'm saying is that even with those gaps, the support conversations still add up to a huge amount of content overall.

I'd get it if Balor himself were sold as separate DLC, but the story's actually complete as is.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

DLC-based monetization is common in RPGs these days, but in the Fire Emblem series specifically, support conversations also double as branching conditions for the ending, which blurs the line between what counts as part of the main game and what counts as an added extra. In the thread, claims that “there were 8 statues but only 4 playable protagonists” and that “the developers said in an interview they’d cut it down from 8 characters” are cited as evidence for the “unfinished” theory — but readers should note these are secondhand claims circulating within the 5ch thread, not an official statement from the developers themselves. The disagreement ultimately boils down to one point: whether the support conversations added via DLC should be seen as “content dishonestly cut from the main game to sell later” or as “a reasonably priced bonus volume of content.” Both sides accuse each other of being “haven’t-played-it posers” (エアプ, meaning someone commenting without having actually played the game), and the thread never settles which side’s claims are actually grounded in real play experience.

  • Takefusa Kubo’s Instagram Posts Disappear — 5ch: “He Probably Just Doesn’t Want People Tracing the Timeline”

It has emerged that some of Real Sociedad player Takefusa Kubo’s past posts on his official Instagram became unviewable as of October 15. According to the original article, soccer fans have been asking things like “Why?” and “Is this a sign of something?” On 5ch, some posters linked it to Kubo’s recent run of bench appearances in the league and predicted a winter transfer, while others noted that deleting club-related posts is a pattern sometimes seen among attention-grabbing players abroad. Still other replies spiraled into speculation about his private life and rumors of a falling-out, leaving the thread split.

    TRANSFER

    HEEEEEEEEEEERE WE GOOOOOO

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Neither Kubo himself nor Real Sociedad has explained why the Instagram posts disappeared, so the “winter transfer” and “frustration over losing his starting spot” theories floating around the thread are purely 5ch speculation. Deleted social media posts by soccer players tend to generate buzz as potential signs of an upcoming transfer or friction with the club. The thread also brought up the case of Kaoru Mitoma, whose vanished posts once sparked divorce rumors — but as noted, that was simply the result of his wife deleting a joint post, not an actual rift. In this case too, only the bare fact that the posts disappeared has been confirmed; the reasons behind it remain unverified.

  • Yokohama High’s Oda Shoki Declares for MLB — Total Contract Reportedly “Over ¥500 Million” as NPB Talent Drain Continues

Yokohama High School right-hander Oda Shoki (a third-year student with a fastball topping out at 157 km/h) announced on the 15th that he will skip the NPB draft entirely and go straight for MLB. His contract is reportedly set to exceed “¥500 million” — far above the cap on NPB signing bonuses — making him the latest in a line of high-schoolers bound directly for the majors, following Morii Shotaro, Sato Gen’ei, and Sasaki Rintaro. Reports also indicate MLB clubs are already circling an Osaka Toin sophomore left-hander, underscoring just how fast top talent is slipping out of Japan’s domestic league. On 5ch, reactions ranged from shock at the sheer size of the deal, to concern over NPB being hollowed out, to a more sober reality check: even for a high-school draftee, it typically takes 5-6 years to become a fixture in the majors.

Right-hander Oda Shoki (third-year student), a 157 km/h flamethrower once seen as a potential No. 1 NPB draft pick, held a press conference at Yokohama High School on the 15th and announced that after graduation he will pursue Major League Baseball. The news has cast a gloomy mood over Japan’s baseball world, as he bypasses NPB entirely to go straight to the majors. What’s more, Oda’s contract is believed to come in at a staggering “over ¥500 million” — far beyond anything NPB’s cap allows — and the crisis of top prospects continuing to leave the country shows no sign of slowing.

The pull of the majors keeps growing stronger by the day. Oda, long rumored to be bound for the Dodgers, has now given his answer: a shot at American baseball.

NPB’s draft meeting is set for the 22nd of this month — the single most important event for the league’s 12 teams as they build and reinforce their rosters. Had Oda signaled he was open to staying in Japan, many teams would have seriously considered taking him with a first-round pick. Instead, the golden-egg prospect chose the majors, leaving NPB scouts letting out a collective, deep sigh.

These days MLB is kind of like SoftBank's "ikusei" (development-contract) policy —

A 192cm left-hander straight out of high school basically never pans out in NPB anyway, so if he wants to go to America, why not.

Since the Heisei era began, only three tall (180cm+) left-handers who came up through NPB have ever racked up 100 career wins: Ishii Kazuhisa, Uchiumi Tetsuya, and Kikuchi Yusei.

There's a 190cm left-hander on the Giants who was Osaka Toin classmates with Neo — I think that guy's going to end up just a slightly better version of him, at best.

The real issue is things like: if he'd signed with the Seibu Lions, that would've opened up a job-placement slot at Seibu for his high school — and now that's gone
    30AnonymousOct 16, 2026 06:09
Honestly, they should just make every current NPB player a free agent and see if MLB comes calling
After that, I think everyone would be happier if NPB just became an MLB Double-A or Triple-A affiliate
The sport and the players should come first — not organizations like NPB or the teams
People who say "you owe the Japanese team that took care of you, so you should repay them" — would they really not switch jobs if their pay tripled and the work environment got better too?

Once he's done, he can just head straight back to Japan, become a landlord, live off passive income, and be set for life

    MLB call-up: 5-6 years
Year 4 in MLB: salary arbitration rights
Year 6 in MLB: free agency eligibility

If a high school draftee gets called up in just 4 years, that's a miracle
Yeah, that's about right. Free agency takes 10 years minimum, so he'd be 28
Fastest case: called up in 4 years, finally lands a big contract in year 6

People said the same thing about Roki (Sasaki) — makes you wonder if he got played by Dentsu
Hard to believe he didn't even know about the under-25 signing rule
    108AnonymousOct 16, 2026 07:01
    Re: #98
When you think about it that way,
going through NPB first and heading over at 25 is actually the smarter move

Background and Key Points of This Story

Under NPB’s draft system, signing bonuses effectively have a cap (a rough guideline of ¥100 million upfront plus ¥50 million in incentives), whereas MLB works through international amateur signing-bonus pools, which lets clubs offer top prospects deals well above that ceiling. That’s the backdrop to the “over ¥500 million” reports. At the same time, very few high-school draftees have gone on to establish themselves in the majors — as the thread noted with Mike Trout, not one has played in MLB in year one, and most spend 5-6 years in the minors as a matter of course. Reaching free agency takes even longer, typically around 10 years at the very fastest — a fact that’s easy to overlook. The thread split between those taking a favorable view of the contract size and Oda’s own choice, and those worried about the ongoing drain and hollowing-out of NPB talent that’s continued since Nomo’s era — though both sides agreed on just how tough the high-school-to-majors path really is. It’s also worth noting that the reported figure likely represents a total including incentives, not a straight signing bonus.

  • Angerme’s New Song Sparks 5ch Buzz: Live Video Views “Off by a Whole Order of Magnitude”

Angerme’s new song “RED LINE,” supposedly a hit on social media, became a topic on 5ch after users noticed its live video view counts weren’t growing to match. The thread cited the initial MV view counts of fellow Hello! Project songs “SEXY BOY” and “Hai to Diamond” for comparison, showing RED LINE’s numbers falling far short. Opinions split between those blaming overwrought vocals or a weak song, and those suspecting the buzz itself had been artificially manufactured.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The thread kicked off with the observation that despite RED LINE supposedly “buzzing” on social media, its live video view counts weren’t climbing to match. Commenters pointed to the initial MV view counts of fellow Hello! Project songs “SEXY BOY” and “Hai to Diamond” as benchmarks, showing RED LINE’s numbers were off by a whole order of magnitude. Opinions split over whether the low view count reflected a weak song or overwrought vocals, or whether the “buzz” itself had been artificially manufactured. It’s worth noting — and easy to miss — that the view counts being compared are limited strictly to within Hello! Project, using a very different yardstick than what counts as “buzz” among the general public.

  • Hanshin shut out again in CS Game 2, fall to 1-2 — Morishita exits mid-game

Climax Series Central League Final Stage Game 2 was played on October 15, with DeNA defeating Hanshin 1-0 to improve to 2 wins and 1 loss. Maki’s solo home run proved to be the game-winner, and Hanshin’s lineup stayed cold right to the end. During the game, Morishita appeared to hurt his leg while running to first base and was replaced, raising concerns about whether he’ll be able to keep playing. On the thread, reactions ranged from questioning a Climax Series format that lets the pennant-race leader Hanshin get overtaken, to pointing out the team’s lack of offseason reinforcements, to worrying about Morishita’s injury.

Morishita's probably done for the year now (forum slang for a serious, season-ending injury), so Hanshin's cooked.

Baseball still pulls in these ridiculous ratings even these days.
    Can't quit it, lol

Background and key points of this story

Under the Climax Series format, the pennant-race winner — Hanshin — enters the Final Stage with a built-in one-win advantage; counting that advantage, the current series stands at 1 win, 2 losses for Hanshin. Because of this asymmetric setup, Hanshin needs 3 more wins to advance while DeNA needs only 2 more to reach the Japan Series, which is why the thread raised questions about the format’s fairness. As for the lineup’s slump, some pointed to an article quoted in the thread noting that key position players had been kept out of game action right before the Climax Series, though that was a front-office decision and no direct cause-and-effect can be confirmed. As for Morishita’s injury, the post-game diagnosis hasn’t been made public yet, so for now it remains speculation.
