  • Capcom’s Livestream Light on New Info — 5ch: ‘Only About 8,000 Watching’

Capcom’s in-house livestream program “Capcom Spotlight,” which aired starting at 11:00 PM on September 16, 2026, drew reactions on 5ch’s hardware/industry board almost as soon as it began. Since most of the announcements covered titles that had already been revealed, comments saying “looks like there won’t be any surprises” appeared early on, leaving viewers who’d hoped for new Ace Attorney series info feeling let down. The fact that concurrent viewership stayed at around the 8,000 mark, along with the differing order in which platform logos appeared for Monster Hunter versus Dragon’s Dogma 2, also became talking points, with some comparing the show’s pacing to that of a Nintendo Direct.

I guess it's the overwhelming pacing that comes from sheer volume of content
When you try to carry a show solo with as little material as Capcom has, it just drags on forever, the pacing falls apart, and since nothing can be cut, they end up saying everything they wanted to say anyway

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Capcom Spotlight” is an irregularly held in-house livestream from Capcom, different in character from regularly scheduled shows like Nintendo Direct or PlayStation’s State of Play. Two main points drove the thread’s discussion. The first was “whether there was new information” — since most of the announced titles had already been reported elsewhere, comments saying “there’s no surprise” appeared early on. The second concerned production choices: some speculated about possible advertising agreements after noticing that the order in which the Nintendo and PS5 logos appeared varied by title for Monster Hunter and Dragon’s Dogma 2, but this was purely viewer speculation, not anything officially explained. Comments also weighed in on the concurrent viewer count (roughly in the 8,000s) and the skill of the show’s pacing, but it’s worth noting these are all subjective impressions from individual viewers, not an objective verdict on the broadcast’s quality.

  • Asian Games in Aichi: Ticket Sales Sluggish, Empty Seats Stand Out — 5ch: ‘Even Soccer Can’t Fill Seats?’

The Sankei Shimbun reports that ticket sales for the Asian Games currently underway in Aichi and Nagoya have been sluggish, with empty seats a common sight, and Governor Hideaki Omura has admitted the event is “struggling.” On a thread on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board (a general live-chat board), posters voiced surprise that even Japan’s national soccer team matches aren’t drawing strong crowds, while others reported that less mainstream sports like kabaddi and sepak takraw are apparently holding their own in ticket sales. Some suggested that Japan’s soccer squad, built mainly around U-21 players, may be hurting attendance, while others questioned why the mascot’s design was changed after it had already been chosen through a public competition. Various theories were floated over what’s behind the muted excitement.

    Soccer is Japan's U-21 second/third string.
Baseball is the amateur corporate-league (shakaijin) national team.
Only Korea's playing for real, since military exemption is on the line — their soccer squad is U-23 plus overage slots, and their baseball roster is stacked with KBO title-caliber players

The mascot — they picked it through a public competition, and then changed the design after it was already decided, which makes no sense

The original design looked cool, like it could've been an enemy character from Mega Man

In the final version the pupils got bigger, the shading around the eyes got smaller, the fingers and feet and everything got rounder, and they added a smiling mouth

And as a costumed mascot it's basically a different creature altogether

The original cool design was better, why'd they change it?

Tickets for the baseball match against China are cheaper than the WBC, no? Might go check it out

    Background and Key Points

The Asian Games are the largest multi-sport event in Asia after the Summer Olympics, and this edition, hosted in Aichi and Nagoya, had already drawn attention beforehand over costs reported to have ballooned past the original budget and over questions about the organizing setup. In the thread, the makeup of the competing squads was a key point of debate: since Japan’s soccer team is built mainly around U-21 reserve players, some argued it’s unfair to compare its attendance to that of full national-team matches, while others voiced disappointment that “even with Japan hosting, there’s just no excitement.” Images purporting to show ticket sales figures were also posted, with claims that lower-profile sports like kabaddi and sepak takraw were outselling soccer and baseball, though no source or official tally could be confirmed within the thread itself, so the accuracy is unclear. Talk about the event’s operating costs and the mascot’s design change also came up, but all of this remains speculation confined to 5ch and should be read as separate from any official announcement.

  • Goro Noguchi Reportedly Set for Kohaku After 43-Year Absence — NHK Symphony and Daughter Collabs in the Works

Nikkan Gendai reports that Goro Noguchi (70) is likely to appear on NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen on New Year’s Eve 2026, marking his 12th appearance and first in 43 years. He’s reportedly in talks to collaborate with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, as well as to perform alongside his daughter, pianist Ayane (24). On 5ch, discussion ranged widely — from mixed opinions on host Hiroyuki Ariyoshi, to calls for veteran acts like Kazumasa Oda, Kazuo Zaitsu, and Yosui Inoue to be invited, to debate over how many slots young idol groups like EBiDAN should get, to complaints about how little Kohaku pays performers.

Some outlets report that Goro Noguchi (70) is likely to appear at the 77th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen on New Year’s Eve 2026, his 12th appearance and first in 43 years. He’s said to be in talks to collaborate with the NHK Symphony Orchestra (N響), which marks its 100th anniversary this year, as well as to perform together with his daughter, pianist Ayane (24).

“This year marks the broadcast’s 101st year, so a headline segment is in the works, and candidate performers’ names are already being floated,”

says an entertainment desk editor at a sports newspaper.

    Re: #90
Who would YOU pick as the headliner then?

    Background and Talking Points

Every year, Kohaku Uta Gassen sparks debate over how many veteran, big-name singers get invited. Goro Noguchi was a major idol singer through the 1970s and ’80s and has continued acting and making music in recent years, but he’s been absent from Kohaku for a long time. Note that this report comes solely from Nikkan Gendai and is not an official NHK announcement. EBiDAN, mentioned repeatedly in the thread, is the umbrella name for a group of Stardust Promotion’s male idol units; it’s been gaining ground in streaming and sales in recent years, though some posters question how many of its newer members should get stage time. Debate over the hosts is an annual Kohaku tradition, and opinions on Hiroyuki Ariyoshi as host are especially divided. Worth noting: names like Kazumasa Oda, Kazuo Zaitsu, and Yosui Inoue came up purely as wishlist picks from thread participants, not as any indication of the artists’ own willingness to appear.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Bombshell: Kazumasa Oda floated for New Year’s Eve Kohaku! NHK desperately courting the 78-year-old ‘anti-Kohaku’ holdout… EBiDAN’s 68-plus members also in the mix.”

  • Kyoto University Grad, Now Jobless and Depressed: Life-Advice Thread Sparks Mixed Reactions

A poster who graduated from Kyoto University but quit their job due to depression and is now unemployed and living as a shut-in turned to 5ch’s Newsokku VIP board to ask, “What should I do with my life from here?” Despite their academic credentials, they found no clear path back into society — and the thread filled with a wide range of responses, from blunt “stop making excuses” tough love, to suggestions to start with exercise or light work, to questions about whether they’d ever seen a psychiatrist. The poster met most suggestions with “I can’t,” repeatedly insisting they’d hit their limit physically and mentally.

if I had to say one thing: quit making excuses. You've got the wrong idea somewhere — acting like you're the only one struggling, like you're the only one with no energy and no stamina.
Every ordinary salaryman out there feels like crap too, and once you hit middle age nobody's got stamina — that's just normal.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This kind of “life-advice thread” is a familiar format on 5ch — anonymity tends to bring out a mix of blunt tough love and genuine sympathy. The thread split over whether recovery from depression is a matter of willpower or a process that has to include the physical body, with “stop making excuses” pushback running alongside concern about forcing oneself to push too hard. Some pointed out that academic achievement doesn’t necessarily correlate with social adaptability, meaning the “Kyoto University graduate” label alone doesn’t capture the full extent of the poster’s struggles. And as one commenter’s “undiagnosed” remark highlights, some of the mental health conditions the poster describes are self-reported rather than confirmed by an actual medical diagnosis — a nuance easy to miss from the quotes alone. The poster’s line about “never having had a single friend in my entire life” also offers a clue to how their isolation deepened over time.

  • Yua Kudo Dubbed ‘Hello! Project’s Most Beautiful Woman’ as 5ch Photo Thread Blows Up

A thread went up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board featuring photos of Yua Kudo (nicknamed “Tako-chan”), sparking a wave of praise like “She’s really come into her own” and “Yume, let’s get married” (Yume being an affectionate nickname for her). While plenty of posters chimed in with “she’s so cute,” opinions differed on just how far her popularity has spread to a newer generation of fans. Between the nicknames and the reactions to her photos, the thread showed just how strong Kudo’s presence is on the Hello! Project board.

    Background and Talking Points

Yua Kudo is a Hello! Project member who regularly comes up for discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, where she’s affectionately known by the nickname “Tako-chan.” This thread drew a flood of praise sparked by her photos, though some posters argued she isn’t gaining traction with newer fans — pointing to a gap in how her appeal has spread between longtime fans and a newer audience. Note that the original thread also contained posts mocking her appearance and remarks amounting to abuse aimed at specific posters; those have been excluded from this article.

  • Kyoto’s Yawata Mayor Gives Birth While on Maternity Leave — 5ch: “If the City Runs Fine Without You, Quit”

It was revealed on the 16th that Mayor Shoko Kawada (36) of Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture, gave birth to a baby girl on the evening of September 15th while on maternity leave. Known as Japan’s youngest female mayor, Kawada has been on roughly four months of maternity leave since July 20th, in what is believed to be the first time a sitting head of a local government in Japan has taken such leave. On 5ch threads, critics argued “if city government runs fine without her for four months, maybe the mayor’s post itself is unnecessary,” while defenders countered with “there’s value in setting a precedent” and “the real problem is a society where it’s hard to take childcare leave.” The discussion also spread to how her salary is handled during leave and comparisons with parental leave among politicians abroad.

    Re: #130
She might end up pregnant with a second child during childcare leave and roll straight back into maternity leave…

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Maternity and childcare leave are legally available to heads of local governments too, but how substitute arrangements and salary are handled depends on each municipality’s own ordinances, and nationwide precedent is still thin. The thread’s disagreement splits into two main camps. One is an institutional argument: “if the local government runs fine without her for four months, maybe the position itself is unnecessary.” The other is a supportive view that “setting a precedent has value in itself,” with some linking it to Japan’s low rate of childcare-leave uptake in the private sector as a point in her favor. One easy point of confusion: whether her full salary continues during maternity leave depends entirely on the municipality’s own ordinance, and the original article doesn’t specify how Yawata City is handling it in this case. Some comments also criticize the timing between her election and the birth, but whether it was planned or coincidental is something only she herself could know, so those claims remain speculation.

  • Station Platform ‘Stand-and-Eat Soba’ Shops on the Verge of Extinction — 5ch Reacts: ‘Are They Really Dying Out?’

A Yahoo News article reporting that stand-and-eat soba stalls on train station platforms are quietly disappearing has stirred discussion on 5ch’s News Speed+ board. These stalls once epitomized the Showa-era scene of commuters wolfing down noodles while keeping an ear out for the departure bell, and the article traces the reasons behind their decline. On the thread, posters mourned beloved shops that have closed — Rokumon Soba, Menjo Ippuku in Minami-Urawa, and the fried-chicken soba stand in Abiko among them — while others recalled how “I used to eat there all the time when a bowl of plain soba was 200 yen, but I stopped going once it passed 300 yen,” pointing to price hikes as a direct driver of the drop in customers. Some also noted that station kiosk culture as a whole, including KIOSK stores, is shrinking.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Platform stand-and-eat soba stalls grew out of a business model dating back to the Japanese National Railways era, meeting commuters’ need to eat quickly in the limited space of a station platform, and — including chains affiliated with various private railway companies — they were part of the everyday commuting scenery of the Showa era. In recent years, rising costs for wheat, cooking oil, and labor have pushed the price of a basic bowl of plain soba from the 200-yen range into the 300s, and as one thread comment put it, “I stopped eating there once it passed 300 yen” — this is a business where that psychological price barrier tends to translate directly into fewer customers. Competition from convenience stores and in-station cafés and quick-service shops, along with the ongoing trend toward unstaffed, streamlined stations, is also likely a factor, though it should be noted that the article itself doesn’t provide detailed figures on these points. Some posts on the thread touched on differences between Kanto- and Kansai-style broth, but comments that flatly declared one superior to the other have been left out here, since they amount to little more than mudslinging. Reports of long-established shops closing vary by region and by time period, so individual store closures shouldn’t be mistaken for a nationwide trend.

  • Daisuke Hori Completes His “30-Minute Sleep” Livestream — 5ch Reacts: “Actual Sleep Was More Like 50 Minutes”

Businessman Daisuke Hori (42), who calls himself a “short sleeper,” has wrapped up a seven-day continuous YouTube livestream that ran from the 9th. Hori founded the Japan Short Sleeper Training Association and claims to have lived on about 30 minutes of sleep a day for the past 17 years. The stream had its share of drama — including an accident where his genitals were briefly exposed on camera, forcing a pause — and at times drew over 100,000 simultaneous viewers. On 5ch, opinions were split: some pointed to smart ring data suggesting he actually slept around 50 minutes, dismissing the whole thing as “basically an endurance contest,” while others praised his stamina and called the completed run “entertaining.”

    Background and Points of Debate

Medically, a “short sleeper” refers to someone whose body suffers no ill effects from sleeping three to four hours or less per day — a trait confirmed in only a tiny number of people, tied to genetic factors. Hori founded an association claiming this trait can be acquired later in life, and runs paid courses around it; this livestream was seen partly as a demonstration meant to prove that claim. Opinions on the thread split along a line of what counts as “success”: some praised his stamina and the fact that he completed the full run, while others gave more weight to the smart ring data suggesting he’d actually slept longer than he claimed. Note that the sleep figures during the stream were based on Hori’s own self-reports and readings from a device he brought himself — the article gives no indication that a hospital or other third party independently verified them.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Short sleeper Daisuke Hori wraps up week-long “30-minutes-a-day sleep” livestream — “I’ve got stamina to spare” — completed despite mishaps.”

  • Trailer Drops for “Tora ni Tsubasa” Movie, Kenshi Yonezu Returns for Theme Song — 5ch: “Don’t Recall It Being Popular Enough for a Movie”

It’s been revealed that NHK’s serialized morning drama “Tora ni Tsubasa,” starring Sairi Ito, will return as a theatrical film opening January 15, 2027. The opening theme continues from the TV series with Kenshi Yonezu’s “Sayonara Mata Itsuka!,” and a trailer featuring footage from the film itself was unveiled for the first time. It’s said to be the first time in the 50-plus-year history of NHK’s morning dramas that a film adaptation has kept its original lead cast. On 5ch, while some comments evoked Tiger Mask and others welcomed the returning theme song, skeptical voices about the film’s box-office prospects stood out too, with comments like “I don’t remember it being popular enough for a movie” and “the only hit NHK-produced movie has been the Kishibe Rohan one.”

    9/16/2026

The opening theme for “Tora ni Tsubasa the Movie” (starring Sairi Ito, opening January 15, 2027) has been decided as Kenshi Yonezu’s “Sayonara Mata Itsuka!,” continuing on from the TV series. Alongside this, a trailer featuring footage from the film itself was unveiled for the first time.

The film is a theatrical adaptation of NHK’s serialized morning drama “Tora ni Tsubasa,” which aired in 2024. In the TV series, protagonist Tomoko (played by Ito) — modeled after Yoshiko Mibuchi, Japan’s first female lawyer who later became the country’s first female judge and first female chief judge — blazed a trail through uncharted territory alongside like-minded women, striking a chord with viewers and captivating all of Japan. This film reunites the TV series’ director Yoshio Nagikawa, screenwriter Erika Yoshida, composer Yuta Mori, and star Ito. Among NHK’s 50-plus years of morning dramas, this marks the first time a film adaptation has kept its original lead cast. The movie depicts new episodes from Tomoko’s days at Meiritsu University’s women’s division that the drama couldn’t fully cover, along with her “final case” tying into the present day, spanning eras on a grand scale.

    Background and Talking Points

“Tora ni Tsubasa the Movie” is a theatrical adaptation of the 2024 serialized morning drama modeled after Yoshiko Mibuchi, with the director, screenwriter, composer, and lead actor all returning — making it the first time in NHK morning drama history that a film adaptation has kept its original lead cast. NHK-produced films have rarely fared well at the box office, with “Kishibe Rohan Goes to the Louvre” reportedly the only one to top 1 billion yen. Opinions on the thread split mainly over whether a sequel was even necessary — whether the drama had enough drawing power to justify a theatrical release — with skepticism dominating. That said, a fair number of comments compared it to Tiger Mask or welcomed Kenshi Yonezu’s return as theme song artist. There were also many combative posts about the original drama’s portrayal and perceived ideological leanings, but since these are hard to verify and include unsubstantiated claims about individuals and groups, this article does not cover them.

  • ‘Sorry, Rei-Rei’: New Fan Burns Out After Six Months of Oshi Support, 5ch Gives Her the Cold Shoulder

A thread appeared on the Hello! Project subforum in which a new fan who had spent six months supporting Juice=Juice’s Rei Inoue (Rei-Rei) announced their retirement, writing “I’m just exhausted now.” The post recounted a support journey full of firsts — their first event, their first cheki (instant-photo) session — but most replies compared it to the pattern of “Gato-san,” a well-known regular poster notorious for repeatedly writing emotional “retirement” essays, and cast doubt on whether the story was even true. Still, some commenters took it at face value and offered genuine advice like “just do your fan activities at your own pace,” and the thread grew into a broader debate about emotional distance and burnout in oshi culture.

    31AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:12
If he'd just written it with the usual 'longtime fan' backstory like always, there wouldn't have been any contradictions.
    33AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:13
    Re: #1
I like the threads this guy makes ww
    34AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:13
    Re: #33
    Exactly.
    Angerme fans have good taste.
Compare that to how boring the threads made by 'Juice' fans (a jab at Juice=Juice's name, since the kanji for 'juice' also reads as 'soup') are.
    35AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:15
Juice=Juice has zero qualities that suck you in, honestly.
    37AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:15
    Re: #35
Yeah, their tour tickets aren't selling at all, and neither are their CDs or Blu-rays.
If anything they're dead last in Hello! Project.
    38AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:17
Doesn't the guy who keeps spamming copy-pasted posts get tired?
    40AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:18
Getting into Juice=Juice through Rei-Rei and then switching oshi a few months later (to Tako, Yafuzo, Eba, or Sakurachi) is pretty common.
    43AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:19
    Honestly, Eba-Mifu is cuter anyway.
    44AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:21
Not really sure what's going on, but you should just do fan activities within your means.
If you can't manage that, all that's left is to leave.
    45AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:22
What's got you so cornered? Just enjoy it at your own pace.
    46AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:22
Sticking to what you can actually attend and afford, and not worrying about everyone else, is how you keep doing this for the long haul.
    47AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:23
If you didn't go on the bus tour, you can't even call yourself a fan.
    48AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:24
You guys giving earnest replies to Gato's threads — watch out, that's exactly the kind of gullibility that gets people scammed lol
    49AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:28
Welcome to Ochanoma — let's take it easy and go kyururun~ (a cutesy catchphrase used in the fandom).
    51AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:31
Comparing yourself to others just wears you out mentally.
    54AnonymousSep 16, 2026 20:40
Why do people like this even use X (Twitter)? If they didn't, they wouldn't have to see idiots.
    59AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:38
I've been rooting for her without spending a dime since her Kobushi Factory days.
    60AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:40
Rei-Rei's basically a cult guru at this point — good luck even getting an audience with her.
    61AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:44
    Re: #1
Dunno who you are, but bye-bye.
Someone without their own compass can't really oshi anyone.
    62AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:45
    Re: #61
You justify yourself with the word 'oshi-katsu,' pile your whole life onto someone else just to cheer them on, and never grow or challenge yourself — do you even have a compass of your own? w
    67AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:54
    Re: #62
Ease up lol, say that and there's no point to any of this ww
    69AnonymousSep 16, 2026 22:01
    Re: #62
    Don't overkill the guy w
    65AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:48
'Everyone else is going, so I have to go too' makes no sense.
    66AnonymousSep 16, 2026 21:51
If you actually like Rei-Rei, shouldn't you be celebrating her growing like that?
A narrow-minded take like that isn't worth reading.
    70AnonymousSep 16, 2026 22:02
    True.
If you actually had your own compass to begin with, you wouldn't be the type of Hello! Project fan who's desperate to cheer for someone else.

    Background and Talking Points

On 5ch’s idol boards, emotionally-written posts announcing a “graduation” or “retirement” appear on a regular basis, and they’re often mocked by tying them back to similar past posts with an “oh, it’s that guy again” reaction. This time too, the writing style and structure felt familiar to readers, so the conversation focused more on rating the poster’s “literary talent” than on whether the story was actually true. That said, genuine oshi-activity burnout isn’t a rare phenomenon — spending on events and merchandise, plus the pressure of comparing yourself to others on social media, has been pointed to elsewhere as a real source of strain. Several replies in the thread also offered the practical advice to “ignore everyone else and go at your own pace,” so a mix of mockery and genuinely useful advice is what characterizes this thread. Worth clarifying to avoid misunderstanding: the “goodbye” in the title is the common phrase for retiring from oshi activities, not a reference to self-harm.
