  • Nikkei Slides Again on AI Bubble Fears as 5ch Traders Wail: ‘¥4 Million in Paper Losses’

On the night of Sunday, October 18, 2026, a thread about the Nikkei average on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (Live Broadcast G) board drew reactions from investors bracing for a steep continued drop on Monday. Rising bond yields at CoreWeave, the GPU-rental company that bankrolls much of the AI investment boom, were flagged as a sign of an “AI bubble bursting,” and posters holding semiconductor stocks like Kioxia reported paper losses topping 3 million yen, with some fearing it could hit 4 million yen by the next day. Still, some cooler heads argued the CoreWeave story was nothing new, and opinions diverged sharply between those sitting on NISA (tax-free investment account) gains over whether to sell, and those who’d only just started investing this year wondering how to respond.

We're in a phase now where stocks just don't go up anymore, so holding just means watching your assets shrink
Surely nobody's still slow enough to not have sold their NISA by now, right?

People are saying it's an AI bubble bursting because bond yields rose at CoreWeave, a company that leases out GPUs
But that's old news by now, and even if CoreWeave went bankrupt, AI investment wouldn't just stop — yet somehow the market's tanking anyway

    Re: #89
I cut my losses at 2.5 million yen

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

At the heart of this discussion is the rise in bond yields at CoreWeave, the GPU-rental company underpinning the AI investment boom. Posters in the thread noted that the yield increase stemmed from bondholders dumping the debt after interest costs began outpacing profit growth, splitting opinion between those who saw it as “old news, nothing to be surprised about now” and those who argued “this time it’s qualitatively different, since profits aren’t keeping up with interest burdens.” Another point of contention was the differing positions of investors using NISA (Japan’s tax-free investment account): those already sitting on unrealized gains versus those who’d only started in September of this year and suddenly found themselves facing a downturn disagreed over whether to sell or hold. One forecast floated in the thread — that the Nikkei would break its support line and fall into the 60,000-yen range — should be treated with caution, as it is strictly an anonymous poster’s technical analysis, not a confirmed outlook.

  • Sakura Ishiyama’s “Don’t give listeners a nickname” remark sparks reaction — 5ch: “It’ll just feed the haters”

The third episode of Nippon Broadcasting’s “Juice=Juice Juicy Talk,” airing October 18 at 9:00 PM, featured Sakura Ishiyama and Ikari Endo. On 5ch’s live-watch thread, reactions poured in when Ishiyama said, “Please don’t give listeners a nickname — it just becomes ammo for the haters.” The show’s chat about udon restaurants also got lively, with replies split over whether they meant Tsurutontan or Marugame Seimen. Ishiyama’s quiet personality and the veteran-listener catchphrase “the Seven Wonders of Sakuringo” (referring to her running gag of being late) were also hot topics.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The practice of fans giving listeners nicknames is common across idol fandoms, not just Hello! Project, but it comes with a downside: once a nickname catches on, outside haters can easily use it as ammunition for mockery. Sakura Ishiyama’s request not to be given a nickname for listeners reads as a remark made with full awareness of that dynamic. The udon shop debated in the thread could have meant either Tsurutontan (an upscale udon chain with locations including Roppongi, known for its association with actress Mari Natsuki) or Marugame Seimen (a major self-service chain) — two places with very different price ranges and clienteles, which is why the replies disagreed about which one was meant. “The Seven Wonders of Sakuringo” is a phrase used among longtime listeners to refer to Ishiyama’s habit of running late, an expression that can seem abrupt without that context. Since the actual broadcast content can’t be confirmed from the thread itself, this article is limited to presenting the reactions that can be read from the live-chat replies.

  • Morning Musume’s Fukuoka Night Show Can’t Even Fill the First Floor — 5ch: “They Couldn’t Even Fill the Floor Seats…”

At Morning Musume’s Fukuoka concert (October 18, 2026), the matinee show sold out, but live updates posted to 5ch’s Hello! Project board claimed the evening show didn’t even fill the first-floor seats, sparking discussion. Thread posters debated why turnout lags even for a holiday-night show, whether this actually counts as a recovery from recent attendance struggles, how it stacks up against other groups like Angerme, and what the upcoming graduations of members like Sakura Oda and Sayumi Fukumura might mean for future ticket sales.

    Re: #80
Look at the post right above yours — it says turnout's actually gone up.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Following the graduation of Sakura Oda — one of next year’s biggest draws — Morning Musume will mark its 30th anniversary in fall 2026, even as the long-hoped-for “comeback” of past graduates like Sayumi Fukumura has never actually happened. Evening shows on regional tour dates carry a structural handicap: fans typically plan around catching the shinkansen or an overnight bus home afterward, which keeps turnout from growing even on weekends and holidays. The thread split over how to read the sold-out matinee: some saw it as a genuine recovery from recent attendance struggles, others argued it just shows fans have gotten used to a status quo where even the night show doesn’t fill up. There was also some taunting over attendance comparisons with Angerme, but that reads less like a problem unique to either group and more like a reflection of a turnout issue common across Hello! Project as a whole when it comes to regional and weekday shows. This article excludes posts mocking real members’ appearances, as well as posts consisting only of a bare URL with no comment.

  • Comdot’s Yamato Warns Over Secret Filming of His Parents — 5ch Claps Back: ‘You’re Filming Without Permission Too’

On the 18th, Comdot’s leader Yamato took to Instagram Stories to complain that “there’s been so much creepy secret filming going on while I’m out shooting with my parents,” and warned that if the person who filmed it posts it on social media, he will “crush them completely.” On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports Express+ thread, opinion split over how to draw the line on filming in public spaces — some argued “YouTubers must capture passersby on camera all the time too, so this is awfully convenient of him,” while others countered that “having someone butt in and film without permission while you’re already filming with permission is a different issue.”

Comdot’s Yamato angrily warns the person who secretly filmed his parents! “If this ends up on social media…”

Comdot leader Yamato (28) updated his Instagram Stories on the 18th with an angry warning about secret filming.

Yamato reported, “I was filming with my parents at a certain location, and there’s been so much secret filming going on that it’s creepy.”

    Exactly that.
No way he's going to post some random stranger who just happened into frame on social media.

Background and key points of this debate

There’s no clear-cut legal standard in Japan for where the line falls between the person filming and the person being filmed. Violations of portrait rights or privacy are judged case by case through accumulated court precedent, and this thread mixed together two distinct issues: “filming is fine because it’s a public place” versus “posting it online without consent is a separate matter.” The problem of passersby getting caught on camera when YouTubers or TikTokers film in public has been pointed out before, and this time, with the “filmer” becoming the “filmed,” an asymmetry that’s normally hard to see was brought into view. Opinion in the thread split mainly between two camps: (1) that filming in public is something anyone should simply tolerate since it can happen to anybody, and (2) that it’s inconsistent for someone who makes his living filming video content to object so fiercely only when it’s his own family being filmed. There was also a comment claiming Yamato’s parent is well-known in a certain local community, but this is unverified and is not treated as fact in this article. One point readers may easily get wrong: the threatening-sounding remarks come from Yamato himself, already made public via his own social media post — they are not comments posted on 5ch.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports Express+) thread “[Entertainment] Comdot’s Yamato Angrily Warns the Person Who Secretly Filmed His Parents! “If This Ends Up on Social Media…” “This Time My Parents Are Involved Too, So I’ll Crush Them Completely”“.

  • PS5’s Real-World Power Rivals an RTX 4060? Console War Erupts on 5ch

Sparked by a post on X (formerly Twitter), a debate broke out on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (console wars) board over which GPU the PS5’s real-world performance actually matches. Initially pegged as “equivalent to an RTX 2060,” opinion shifted toward “RTX 4060 or RX 6600 level” after a 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark (roughly 16,800 points) was run on SteamOS using a leaked BC-250 board — the same chip platform used in the PS5. However, some pointed out that the BC-250’s core count and clock speed differ from actual PS5 specs, and opinions were split on how to fairly compare hardware that lacks ray tracing and DLSS support.

Lol (“grass,” 5ch slang for laughing)

People comparing PS5 and PC performance really need to stop going off spec sheets alone.

At least try it on real hardware before making claims.

Apparently the leaked BC-250 board (just the PS5's chip, nothing else) running SteamOS scores 16,800 in the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark.

That puts it on par with an RX 6600 — basically an RTX 2060 with the AI cores stripped out.
The RTX 2060 Super scores 18,000, so it still doesn't reach that.

    57AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:48
Since the RTX 4060 is an entry-level card with a narrower memory bus,
its performance craters when doing native 4K rendering without DLSS or anything like that.
Under those specific conditions the PS5 might technically compete,
but winning only after tying the 4060's hands behind its back… so what?

And looking ahead, with DLSS5 support planned for the whole 4000-series, the 4060 still has way more headroom to grow anyway.

    Re: #57
The 5060 got a big jump in memory bandwidth, but that didn't translate into some massive performance leap either.
If you're running 4K you basically need DLSS anyway, so you don't need that much memory bandwidth to begin with.

    WOOOOOAH!!!

    Background and Points of Contention

It’s true that the PS5 saw performance gains from firmware updates after launch — Gigazine reported on this back in 2021. However, the figures at the center of this latest discussion come from a 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark run on SteamOS using a leaked BC-250 board, which carries the same APU as the PS5. Thread commenters pointed out that this board was tested with core counts and clock speeds altered from actual PS5 specifications. In other words, the BC-250’s numbers don’t directly represent PS5 performance, and depending on which conditions are used as the baseline, the verdict swings between “equivalent to an RTX 2060” and “equivalent to an RTX 4060.” On top of that, since the RTX 4060 used for comparison supports ray tracing, DLSS, and frame generation, opinions were also split on how much a simple raw rasterization comparison actually reflects the real gaming experience.

  • Dense Breast Notifications: Lawmaker Akiko Ikuina’s Years-Long Push Finally ‘Moves a Huge Boulder’

Mammography, the standard method for breast cancer screening, can struggle to detect tumors in women with “dense breasts” — a condition in which breast tissue contains a high proportion of glandular tissue, making cancer harder to spot on the image. The Asahi Shimbun reports that House of Councillors member Akiko Ikuina has been pushing for a system that would notify patients directly when they receive this result. On 5ch’s Science News+ board, many commenters said they’d never even heard the term “dense breasts” before, while others discussed the gap in insurance points between mammograms and breast ultrasounds, and newer blood-test technology that can screen for cancer from a single drop of blood. At the same time, the thread also drifted into off-color jokes riffing on how the term sounds, along with posts pushing folk remedies of dubious medical merit — so the quality of information in the thread varied widely.

Why are we still irradiating people with X-rays for cancer screening?

These days, a single drop of blood can detect 13 types of cancer.
It can even catch them at stage 0 or 1, before X-rays would show anything.
Breast cancer is one of those 13 cancers detectable from a single drop of blood.

    AI's answer
The 13 cancers are: stomach, esophageal, lung, liver,
biliary tract, pancreatic, colorectal, ovarian, prostate,
    bladder, breast, sarcoma, and glioma.

    • How the test works:
It measures the level of tiny molecules called "microRNA" released into the blood, then analyzes them with AI.
    • Key point:
Research groups including Japan's National Cancer Center and Toshiba are developing this, and it's shown potential to detect cancer even at an extremely early stage like stage 0.

Breasts fall into four categories based on the ratio of glandular tissue to fat: "fatty," "scattered fibroglandular," "heterogeneously dense," and "extremely dense." Of these, "heterogeneously dense" and "extremely dense" are what count as 'dense breasts.'
…By the way, it's 'kōnōdo' (high density), not 'kōkando' (likability) — easy to mix up, so watch out.

Ikuina's actually gotten things done. You shouldn't lump her in with those idol-turned-lawmakers who are in it for the name alone

    Background and Key Points

“Dense breasts” is a medical classification for breasts where a high proportion of the tissue shows up white on a mammogram, split by density into categories like scattered fibroglandular, heterogeneously dense, and dense. Because tumors also show up white on the image, the more glandular tissue present, the harder cancer is to spot by imaging alone — and in many municipal screening programs, patients reportedly aren’t told when they fall into this category. Calls to fix that are the backdrop for this report. On the thread, many commenters said they’d never heard the term before; others speculated about test-selection incentives based on the gap in insurance points between mammograms and breast ultrasounds, and raised practical topics like blood-test technology for early cancer detection. At the same time, some posts pushed unapproved drugs or supplements as alternatives to cancer treatment, so readers should be careful to sort out claims that lack solid medical backing.

Coughing or sneezing on a train can make nearby passengers feel anxious or uncomfortable. At the same time, some people cough involuntarily due to illness, regardless of their own intentions.

Heard this from a taxi driver the other day —
some old lady clueless about cashless payments botched the transaction, insisted she'd already paid even though it never went through, and tried to just hop out and leave. He stopped her,
and she apparently dialed 110 claiming "I already paid and the driver won't let me go."
Then the cop who showed up started treating the old lady as the victim and the driver as the offender, so the driver completely lost it.
The old lady was an idiot, sure, but the cops ("mappo," a derogatory slang for police) were no better.

There really are people who cough or sneeze obnoxiously loud in public.
It gets a free pass right now as "just a bodily function," but I think that excuse needs reconsidering.

If it's illness-related, take medicine or use an inhaler; if the cold's irritating your airway, wear a mask and don't let your throat get chilled.
And if a sneeze is coming, press a finger under your nose — that'll hold it back.

You shouldn't have trusted it in the first place.
I think it's about time there were penalties for these "kotatsu articles." (lazy armchair pieces written without real reporting)

Background and Key Points of This Story

This type of “train trouble” online article tends to share a common trait: the people involved are identified only by pseudonyms and vague ages, making outside verification nearly impossible. Several thread comments — like “don’t start a thread over some made-up sob story” and “drop the pseudonyms and report real names” — question the article’s credibility outright, and that’s better read as general distrust toward anonymous-forum-sourced online news than as commentary on this specific incident. Also, if you isolate the single claim that a cough was reported as a “threat,” it reads like a straightforward conflict story — but the article itself is really about the gap between intent and outcome, noting that coughing can sometimes stem from illness rather than malice, and much of the thread’s reaction drifts away from that original framing. Rather than reducing it to who’s at fault, it’s worth keeping sight of the original point: the gap between coughing caused by one’s physical condition and how the people around them perceive it.

  • Sony Jumps Into the Pocket-Sized PC Game — 5ch Users Get Nostalgic for Old VAIOs and Librettos

After news broke of an ultra-compact, high-performance PC small enough to fit in a back pocket, a thread on 5ch’s “Morning Coffee” board (Hello! Project board) filled up with nostalgic comments about UMPCs (ultra-mobile PCs) — the VAIO U and P series, Toshiba’s Libretto, IBM’s PC110, and other tiny machines that domestic manufacturers once raced to produce before smartphones took over. At the same time, some pointed out that “VAIO was sold off by Sony” and questioned whether there’s even demand for a PC this size nowadays, making the thread a mix of nostalgia and down-to-earth skepticism about demand.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

UMPCs (Ultra Mobile PCs) were a category domestic Japanese manufacturers competed fiercely in during the early 2000s, before smartphones took over — well-known examples include the VAIO U/P series, Toshiba’s Libretto, and IBM’s PC110 (nicknamed the “Ultraman PC”). One claim raised in the thread, that “VAIO failed and Sony sold off the business,” is in fact true: the VAIO business was transferred to Japan Industrial Partners in 2014, and the current “VAIO Corporation” is a separate company from Sony itself. Without knowing this background, it’s easy to conflate nostalgia for old VAIOs with discussion of Sony’s current products. Where opinions in the thread diverged was over future demand — one camp argued “a smartphone is enough,” while another countered that “improvements in integrated GPU performance are bringing these back as handheld gaming PCs.”

    It's got the vibe, lol

Background and context of this topic

There’s long been confusion around “Galaxy Express 999” over the theme song involving Misako Konno. Isao Sasaki sang the opening of the TV anime version (aired 1978–81), while Godiego’s “GALAXY EXPRESS 999” — a massive hit — was the ending theme of the movie version (1979). The Godiego version spread more widely through karaoke and music shows, but for the generation that caught the anime through weekday-evening reruns, it’s the Isao Sasaki version that’s seared into memory. The thread’s split between “it’s Godiego” and “no, it’s Isao Sasaki” comes down to this difference in how people originally encountered the show — and 49-year-old Matsuoka naming the Isao Sasaki version fits with him belonging to that reruns generation. Note: some replies mocking the sexual abuse scandal involving Johnny Kitagawa were excluded from this article.

  • Neighbor Mysteriously Dodges the Bike Lot — 5ch: ‘It’s Not Normal, So It Bugs Me’

A poster on 5ch’s Nnews VIP board shared a story about an elderly male neighbor who seems to avoid using the apartment building’s bike parking area only when the poster happens to be there, instead pacing around nearby. The poster read the behavior as “suspicious” and “creepy,” but plenty of other commenters pushed back, suggesting he might simply be avoiding overlap and waiting his turn like anyone else would — splitting the thread right down the middle between those who called the behavior “unnatural” and those who called it “normal.” The debate gradually spiraled into an endless argument over who even gets to decide what counts as “natural” behavior in the first place.

    ・Probably a messy room
    → His balcony's a mess

・Goes out or comes home at bizarre hours like 3am

    ・Slams the door loudly
    93AnonymousOct 18, 2026 15:08
Setting aside whether he's just socially awkward ("komyu-shou") — what's actually scary about this?
    96AnonymousOct 18, 2026 15:14
    Re: #93
In the bike lot example, loitering around the area looks suspicious no matter how you slice it.

Re: #5 is basically saying something feels off about the guy's character.
    14AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:45
Isn't that normal, though? Like, you try to time it so you don't overlap with people — I mean, do you ride the elevator together with your neighbors?
    17AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:50
    Re: #14
An elevator and a bike lot are totally different sizes.
That's not really a fair comparison.

By the way, I'd feel a bit uncomfortable, but I'd still get in.
    15AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:47
If he really is avoiding it, deliberately loitering around the bike lot is just unnatural.
    16AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:49
    Re: #15
He's avoiding it, so he's just waiting nearby until it's free.
Calling that "unnatural" makes you way too much of a self-appointed natural-behavior judge.
    19AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:51
Well yeah, of course he'd avoid a stalker like you.
    21AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:54
    Re: #19
And what makes you think I'm a stalker?
    20AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:53
    Re: #16
If he's really avoiding you, it'd be more natural for him to move far enough away that he could come back in like 5-10 minutes.
    22AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:54
    Re: #20
"Coming back in 5-10 minutes is more natural" is way too convenient for your argument. He's just waiting on the spot for it to free up. You're basically giving the old man stage directions — that's creepy.
    23AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:58
Assuming he genuinely sees me as scary, as a stalker — if that's really the case, then loitering around the bike lot is exactly when you'd worry about what might happen to you, lol.

Is that really the level of your "risk-management skills"?
    24AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:59
    Re: #23
You sure love the phrase "risk-management skills" — what are you, a certified crime-prevention officer? The old man's just waiting for it to free up. You're the one branding him a suspicious person.
    28AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:03
    Re: #26
    Skip the lecture.
Try actually rebutting the first half of Re: #23, lol.
    Mr. Judge, lol.
    25AnonymousOct 18, 2026 12:59
    Re: #22
    "Stage directions," huh… lol
    26AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:01
    Re: #25
If it's not "stage directions," then stop grading everyone's behavior on a natural/unnatural scale, Mr. Grader. Nobody out there moves according to your personal rulebook.
    27AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:02
    Re: #24
You're only picking a fight over the phrase "risk-management skills" and not rebutting anything else — or rather, the fact that you can't says it all.
    29AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:03
    Re: #27
It's not just the phrase — playing pretend crime-prevention officer is what's cringe here. The old man's just waiting, and you're the self-appointed natural-behavior grader. That's my whole rebuttal.
    30AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:05
    Re: #28
There's no "first half" to argue — the old man's just waiting his turn in plain sight without getting close. If you want to control other people with the rules in your head, go put up a sign at the bike lot.
    32AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:08
    Re: #30
First you say "waiting his turn,"
then you say "avoiding him" — you're totally flip-flopping, lol.

    This isn't going anywhere, lol.
    33AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:10
    Re: #32
He's waiting his turn specifically in order to avoid you — what are you, some ace detective hunting for contradictions? If anything isn't making sense, it's your Japanese.
    34AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:13
    Re: #33
I'm just saying that's unnatural, is all?

If you were in the old man's shoes and were avoiding me, I seriously doubt you'd be able to just loiter around the bike lot, lol.
    35AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:15
    Re: #34
He's avoiding you, so he just waits nearby without approaching. Playing pretend "loitering judge" is way more unnatural than that.
    36AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:17
    Re: #35
So, could YOU loiter around the bike lot if you were in the old man's position?
    42AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:30
    Re: #41
Are you just a word collector who wants to say "risk-management skills"? What has zero persuasive power is the way you're running the whole world on your own "unnatural" scoring system.
    43AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:33
    Re: #42
Yeah yeah, so in your head I'm a word collector, lol. Even if I were a word collector, that doesn't change the fact that you have zero persuasive power, lol.
    44AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:35
    Re: #43
The word "persuasive" has no persuasive power coming from you — the moment you start collecting phrases like "risk-management skills" and "unnatural" to play pretend persuasiveness-grader, you've already lost.
    45AnonymousOct 18, 2026 13:39
    Re: #44
The fact that you're even talking in terms of winning and losing says it all, lol.

If you really don't want to be told you have zero persuasive power or no risk-management skills,

how about giving even ONE piece of evidence that the old man's behavior is natural? Hm? Lol.
    94AnonymousOct 18, 2026 15:10
    By the way,
judging from Re: #44's reply, it seems like I lost?

Which means, since I lost, I don't have to leave, right?!
    64AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:12
What do you mean "already confirmed"? Did you threaten him or something?
    65AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:15
    Re: #64
"Already confirmed" just means you stamped your own approval on yourself. Sounds like you'd also grade yourself "safe" on whether you threatened him.
    73AnonymousOct 18, 2026 14:26
    Re: #64
It's hard to explain in words, but—

When I'm heading out and go to the bike lot, the old man happens to be coming home and heading there too
    ↓
For some reason he avoids it and starts loitering around
    ↓
There was someone else at the bike lot who was also about to head out

That's literally all that happened — I never threatened anyone, lol.
    125AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:18
A neighbor's just some random stranger — why do you even care this much?
    128AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:22
    Re: #125
It bugs me because it's not normal behavior. If he were a normal person, it wouldn't bother me at all.
    133AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:31
    Re: #125
It bugs me exactly because he's a random stranger — next-door is close, after all. The fact that you can stay totally indifferent no matter what a stranger does is honestly impressive, in a bad way.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Encounters in shared spaces like an apartment building’s bike parking area tend to turn into unverifiable he-said-she-said disputes, since there’s no camera footage or witness testimony — and this thread was a textbook example. The poster branded the neighbor suspicious based on fragmentary observations like “he avoids the lot when people are around” and “he comes and goes at odd hours of the night,” but commenters pushing back reinterpreted those same facts as “he’s just avoiding overlap and waiting his turn” — neither side ever got past speculation. As the argument dragged on, the focus drifted away from the core question of whether the neighbor is actually scary and toward nitpicking the poster’s word choices (like “risk-management skills” and “already confirmed”) — a pattern common to online arguments that wander from the original point. What readers should keep in mind is that neither theory in the thread comes with any objective evidence; this article is simply a recap of an exchange on an anonymous message board.
