  • Akashiya Sanma, 71, Confesses: “I’ve Never Been Sick a Day in My Life”

On the October 17 broadcast of MBS Radio’s “Young Town,” Akashiya Sanma expressed concern for comedy duo Jicho Kacho’s Jun’ichi Kawamoto, who filled in for him while under the weather, while revealing that he himself has never been sick once in his 71 years. His remark that “I just can’t relate to how rough that feels” sparked a wave of theories on the forum about why he never gets sick — low body temperature, being a short sleeper, stress relief through laughter, and more. Others pushed back, pointing out that never getting sick isn’t the same as understanding other people’s suffering, splitting reactions over how to interpret his decades-long clean health record.

Akashiya Sanma, 71, Confesses He’s “Never Been Sick” — Admits “Flaw”: “I Just Can’t Relate to Feeling Rough”

Comedian Akashiya Sanma appeared on October 17 on MBS Radio’s “MBS Young Town Saturday” (10:00 p.m.), where he serves as main host.

That day, he expressed concern for Jicho Kacho’s Jun’ichi Kawamoto, who was himself still recovering from illness while filling in for Shoji Murakami.

    Re: #74
    That's some pretty woo-woo thinking

Background and Key Points of This Story

This isn’t the first time Sanma has claimed he’s “never been sick” — he’s brought it up repeatedly on radio and elsewhere before. On the forum, theories ranged from a naturally low body temperature to being a short sleeper to stress relief through laughter, but none of these go beyond speculation with no medical backing. Where opinions split was over the relationship between the fact that he’s “never been sick” and his remark that “I can’t relate to how rough that feels” — some read his clean health record favorably, while others worried it signaled a lack of empathy for other people’s suffering. Worth keeping in mind while reading: his claim is self-reported and doesn’t actually guarantee anything about his medical health.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou Supo Sokuhou+) thread “[Entertainment] Akashiya Sanma, 71, Confesses He’s “Never Been Sick” — Admits “Flaw”: “I Just Can’t Relate to Feeling Rough”.”

  • Even Nintendo games now routinely get DLC announced after launch — 5ch: “They’re just slicing up the price into pieces”

A string of recent cases where Nintendo has announced DLC well after a game’s launch has become a hot topic on 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board. The thread centered on Fire Emblem: Banshi Senkou, where the main game and paid DLC are split apart, with posters arguing that Nintendo titles — once reliably complete in a single package — are drifting toward the same piecemeal sales tactics used by other publishers. On the other hand, data was presented showing that among titles releasing in 2026, more games actually lack DLC than have it, and pushback like “just don’t buy it” and “this isn’t worth getting worked up over now” kept opinion split.

    1AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:32
Nintendo deliberately splitting games into DLC just to shamelessly squeeze more money out of people is now just "normal."
    3AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:34
And on the flip side, games without DLC don't even get free extra content — stuff like Kirby Air Riders or Splatoon Raiders just gets left thin and shoddy, then abandoned for good.
    5AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:36
Replying to Re: #1 and Re: #3: to put it mildly, that's "KPD theory" at work — the same kind of oxygen-deprived (i.e., brain-dead) decision-making that tanked that Marvel exclusive-flagship-character game.
    8AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:39
The real problem to begin with is that it's just wrong for a game with 100+ hours of content to cost under 10,000 yen.
    11AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:45
Replying to Re: #8: Can't be helped — the player base got skewed way too far toward casual, general audiences. Broke people are basically the main customer base for games now.
    17AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:51
To begin with, isn't Nintendo's whole expected role in the industry to pull new players into the buy-once model? Every other camp has basically outsourced that job to Nintendo entirely — no other first party is out there making games aimed at kids and girls. To rope newcomers in, you obviously can't set some crazy price, so I get why DLC is on the table. But the real question is: can they even design a game that stays within a sane budget and price point to begin with?
    20AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:02
Replying to Re: #17: Well, Fire Emblem aside, the real question is what happens with Pokémon.
    21AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:09
You don't have to buy Nintendo's DLC — the base game's complete on its own, or so I thought… but apparently Fire Emblem is pretty bad about that.
    24AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:12
Replying to Re: #21: If they'd waited to release it fully finished, it would've slipped to next year and probably cost around 13,000 yen, so I kind of get it. Xenoblade might end up going the same way.

Replying to Re: #1: I used to love Nintendo games back in the single-purchase, complete-in-one-box era — Zelda included. But even Zelda got this treatment: Breath of the Wild got amiibo tie-ins, then years later a Switch 2 version, then Zelda Notes on top of that. It's sad that ditching that "one complete package" ideal in favor of stretching things out over years has become the norm.

But honestly, I think the worst offender in Nintendo's whole lineup is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That game clearly had features already finished, and they still drip-fed them out through endless post-launch updates.

I used to trust old Nintendo, but I just can't anymore. Everyone's fine with amiibo, but that's seriously a scummy sales tactic.

Replying to Re: #30: Elden Ring on PS4 was cheap, so I picked it up and I'm playing that. New releases just aren't worth the money, and Switch games never drop in price, so they feel overpriced. I did put a ton of hours into Breath of the Wild back in the day and still like it, but as someone from the old-school Zelda camp, there's a real sadness in realizing the Zelda series I knew is over. I've decided to give up on this series.

    37AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:33
Well, it's true that "just don't buy it" settles the matter. These days almost no game ships and is just done — everything assumes post-launch updates as a given.
    38AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:34
What exactly does everyone mean by "splitting the game up"? At the very least, Nintendo's base games have a complete story on their own.
    40AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:36
Replying to Re: #38: Fire Emblem, yeah, I'd call that split up. Though I do think the price is fair. There's also probably a decent chance they just didn't finish it in time.

Aren't games without DLC the minority these days anyway? Why's everyone suddenly kicking up a fuss about this now?

Replying to Re: #42: The main story, sure… I want to say that, but playing it, it's obvious the other four characters got cut. That's a game that was originally 13,000 yen, trimmed down and sold as an 8,000 yen game.
    43AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:37
Just make the sticker price 15,000 yen already, honestly.
    50AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:41
Replying to Re: #43: Because the real sticker price would top 10,000 yen, so they just carve it up into base game, updates, and DLC — pure "three-in-the-morning-four-in-the-evening" sleight of hand (an old idiom for a trick that changes nothing but how it's dressed up), just to make it look cheaper than it is. And by selling the base game and DLC separately, the game design loses its consistency too — the base game alone feels half-finished, while the DLC ends up with its own bolted-on quirks that feel unnatural. The whole thing loses any sense of cohesion.
    49AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:41
Replying to Re: #46: The idea that they "cut" anything is a misunderstanding to begin with — people involved said in interviews they capped it at 4 characters because more would've made things too complicated.

Back when Nintendo was late to the DLC game, people happily threw every insult in the book — "unfinished," "piecemeal cash grab" — at other publishers' games they hadn't even bought. Now that Nintendo's doing it, suddenly it's "not all DLC is bad" and "it's fine as long as the story's complete." Well, I guess that's just business as usual on Geha.

Replying to Re: #83: If it were a trilogy padded out with minigames like the FF7 remake, it'd get slammed for it too.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Nintendo has long built its reputation on “buy once, get the complete game,” and had a strong image of being resistant to DLC. In recent years, though, more titles have grown too large to fit within a single game’s budget, and the practice of releasing the main game first and then selling additional scenarios or characters as paid DLC later has spread. The sticking point in the thread was where to draw the line between “just selling off an unfinished part of the main game later” and “simple additional content” — and the more a title hinted at its DLC before launch, as Fire Emblem did, the harsher the criticism got. On the other hand, as post #51 in the thread pointed out, more 2026 Nintendo titles actually lack DLC than have it, a detail that’s easy to overlook given how much the thread treated this as the new “normal.” There was also the observation that Geha, which has long slammed other publishers for piecemeal sales tactics, tends to turn around and defend Nintendo for doing the same thing — a double-standard pattern common to these industry debates.

Episode 11 of Season 2 (the 21st episode overall) of TBS’s Sunday Drama series “VIVANT” aired on October 18. The episode showed Nogi’s team, having rescued their comrades from Shaki Castle, getting stopped at a checkpoint while trying to escape to Garaman Airport, where they’re spotted by their pursuer Shu Haoran. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board, reactions were split: some viewers said the plot had gotten so tangled that “I can’t tell how the story connects anymore,” admitting they fast-forward through recordings and watch it in about 15 minutes, while others praised the heroics of Genghis, who showed up to help, calling him “so cool.”

Well, Nokoru's gonna "nokoru" (remain), isn't he? (pun: his name literally means "to remain")

    Background and Key Points

“VIVANT” is a spy drama starring Masato Sakai whose Season 1 became a ratings hit when it aired in 2023; this Season 2 is its sequel. The thread’s main point of disagreement was pacing — comments saying the story still made sense even fast-forwarded sat alongside comments saying they couldn’t keep up with the plot. Incidentally, the “unexpected character” referenced in the original article’s headline is the unnamed local woman who held up Nogi’s bus at the checkpoint, but 5ch’s replies barely touched on her — discussion instead centered on major characters, like Genghis acting alone and how the operation to rescue the kidnapped Bekkan agent would play out. There was also some cool-headed skepticism about a movie adaptation apparently already being a done deal, hinting at mixed feelings about the franchise stretching on long-term.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Entertainment] Masato Sakai-starring Sunday Drama “VIVANT” — Fans Rage on X Over Surprise Character: “What is even going on?” “Seriously a pain” “Total blunder” “Who even is this?!”.”

Miu Fujisaki of ONE LOVE ONE HEART, who belongs to Stardust Promotion, achieved the youngest-ever flawless clear on Fuji TV’s “Chidori’s Oni Renchan” in its “chorus-only karaoke” segment.

The news caught on in 5ch’s Hello! Project subforum, and a thread sprang up even though she herself isn’t a member of Hello! Background and Key Points

“Chidori’s Oni Renchan” is a notoriously difficult music variety segment where contestants must identify songs from just their chorus hooks in rapid succession, and the youngest-record category is a recurring talking point. Miu Fujisaki belongs to Stardust Promotion and isn’t a member of Hello! Project proper, but she’s been featured in a segment of ABC Radio’s “60TRY-bu” since late 2023 — which is why this became a hot topic on the Hello! Project subforum, framed as a “Hello! Project discovery.” Posters were split between comparisons to Ruru Danbara, the previous holder of the youngest-record title, and differing opinions on how aggressively her agency pushes her, resulting in a mix of celebratory and lukewarm reactions. The fact that she isn’t actually part of Hello! Project itself, but is known through a radio segment, is something the headline alone doesn’t make clear.

  • Hanshin Blow Season Finale Right After ‘One More Strike!’ Chant — 5ch: ‘Give Them Style Points’

On October 18, 2026, in the final game of the Climax Series, the Hanshin Tigers backed their opponent into a corner with two outs and two strikes — and the moment the “one more strike” chant rang out from the stands, their bullpen fell apart, handing the game away and ending their season on the spot. In 5ch’s live-commentary threads, posters repeatedly joked self-deprecatingly that conceding runs right after the chant is basically Hanshin’s “signature comedy routine,” invoking memories of past blowouts like the infamous 33-4 defeat in the 2005 Japan Series. At the same time, opinions clashed over the etiquette of shouting the “one more strike” chant while the opposing team is batting, as well as over the current Climax Series format that lets a lower-ranked team knock the pennant winner out of the Japan Series.

Their skill at comedy is just on another level

Last year's Japan Series was the same — winning a close game 1 in Fukuoka had everyone thinking 'we can actually do this'

and then losing a straight one-run game back at home
    50AnonymousOct 18, 2026 23:16
What really earns the high artistic marks is that every argument Hanshin fans make ends up self-refuted automatically:

'It's wrong to reach the Japan Series without even winning the pennant!' → Hanshin did exactly that in 2014

'It's wrong to make the Climax Series with a losing record!' → Both the 2015 and 2022 Hanshin squads were under .500

'Show some respect!' → They've mocked the Giants' eliminations plenty in the past, and they do the 'one more strike' chant themselves
    58AnonymousOct 18, 2026 23:20
    Re: #50
'We don't need the Climax Series!' ← It was Hanshin fans who made a huge fuss back in 2005 after the 33-4 drubbing, insisting 'we only lost because there was no playoff to keep our game sense sharp!'

'It cheapens the value of the pennant!' ← Losing in the Climax Series is nowhere near as bad as 33-4 was 😅

That's probably why it's such a classic comedy callback
'One more strike' is basically Hanshin's signature bit at this point — everyone half-expects a gorgeous come-from-behind loss on cue
If it's a spot where you'd still win even after giving up a homer, no runners on, fine, say it then
But when a single hit or a dropped third strike could flip the whole game, chanting it in that spot is just comedy
    57AnonymousOct 18, 2026 23:19
Nobody even calls it a 'pennant race' in MLB
It's just finishing 1st in your division, and the real action is the postseason
If Japan's modeling itself on that, it should just drop the whole 'league champion' title and call it finishing 1st instead
    60AnonymousOct 18, 2026 23:20

Sure, if it's a spot where you'd still win even after giving up a homer
But with runners on, and in scoring position no less, and the batter being someone who's been hitting well lately — only a small minority would feel that confident
On top of that, how those runners got on base was bad too

    Re: #94
Sorry, that was just me running my mouth while drunk
    My bad lol

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The “one more strike” chant has become an established — if self-mocking — fan tradition at Hanshin games, born from the team’s repeated pattern of blowing the lead late after cornering an opponent. In the thread, posters repeatedly brought up the infamous 33-4 blowout from the 2005 Japan Series as well as anecdotes from the team’s early-season struggles under manager Yano. Opinion split mainly along two lines: one group questioned the etiquette of shouting the chant while the opposing team is at bat, and the other voiced frustration with the current Climax Series format, which allows a lower-ranked team to knock the pennant winner out of the Japan Series — a point that also spun off into comparisons with MLB’s wild-card system. What’s easy to miss is that this chant isn’t a one-off jab at the team; it’s a bit fans themselves have kept alive self-deprecatingly for years, folding in even their own historic blowouts, and the thread’s reactions are simply the latest chapter of that same tradition.

A 5ch thread calling for “tell me your favorite Sanrio character” drew a flood of replies. Classic names like Kero Kero Keroppi, Hello Kitty, and Cinnamoroll came up one after another, but the conversation soon drifted toward how the newer character “Hanamaru Obake” is being handled. Anime Kuromi is seriously cute — that's what won me over

    Background and Key Points

Sanrio has rolled out new characters every few years since the 1990s, and in recent years it has run official “new character audition” polls open to the public, putting promotional weight behind whichever character comes out on top. “Hanamaru Obake,” mentioned in the thread, is a relatively new character that emerged from this system, and it’s hardly unusual for a company to prioritize merchandise and advertising exposure for a character it needs to turn a profit. The gap between longtime fans who see this as “special treatment from the very start” and fans who simply took a liking to the new character is a pattern that’s long been common in the character-merchandising business. The thread also saw pushback against skepticism that “middle-aged guys who like Sanrio” even exist, with posters citing collaborations with Hello! Project and other idol-related ventures as evidence — a reflection of how Sanrio has expanded beyond its family-oriented roots to reach a much broader customer base.

  • Furyu’s RPG ‘CRYSTAR’ drops 95% to just 288 yen, 5ch reacts

A sale knocking Furyu’s RPG “CRYSTAR” down 95% from its regular 5,775 yen to just 288 yen has kicked off, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. Furyu has pulled similarly steep discounts before — on titles like “THE MONARCH” — and many commenters noted a sense of déjà vu with remarks like “Furyu again, huh.” The thread’s discussion ended up less about the low price itself and more about a tangle of two things: an assessment of the game — “the story isn’t bad, but the gameplay is rough” — and the broader low reputation of Furyu and similar makers like Idea Factory.

    Re: #100
If it's still that bad after the update, that's rough
Wasn't that game a PS4 exclusive when it launched?

Background and key points of this discussion

“CRYSTAR” is a PS4/Switch RPG Furyu released in 2018, and the company has a history of repeatedly discounting its own titles — like “THE MONARCH” — down to near one-coin prices within short windows. Since Furyu’s actual core business is photo booth (purikura) machines, thread posters see this as a strategy to make up for the game division’s low brand recognition: hook in new players with cheap prices, then sell sequels and series entries at full price. Opinions split between an assessment of the game’s actual quality — “the story is decent, but the action and battle system are rough” — and a more general bias against makers in the same bracket as Furyu, Idea Factory, and Compile Heart. One thing readers might easily misread: a 95%-off price sounds like a desperate clearance sale on the surface, but commenters in the thread also pointed out that “it’s a fair price for the amount of content” and that “they’ve run similar sales before,” meaning the number itself isn’t necessarily proof of poor quality.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry [Geha]) thread “Furyu’s RPG “CRYSTAR” holds a shocking sub-one-coin sale, 95% off at 288 yen! Surely this is a must-buy“.

  • Parents Let Their Kids Pump Gas at the Station — Some Snap When Staff Call It Out: ‘Please, Just Stop’

Parents who let their children pump gasoline at filling stations just won’t stop, and according to ENCOUNT, some respond to repeated staff warnings with a tongue-click or an outright blowup instead of backing down. Gasoline doesn’t just carry a fire and explosion risk — if it touches skin or is swallowed, it can cause burns or even blindness, the outlet reports. On 5ch, a thread split right down the middle: one camp argued “what’s wrong with letting kids get some experience,” while critics fired back that “there are way too many clueless parents who don’t even know gas can ignite from static electricity.” The debate spiraled into questions over whether any actual regulation exists and what obligations stations have under the Fire Service Act.

    Re: #50
There's no age limit written into actual law.

    It's a station-level operating policy.
Stores are obligated to confirm safety during refueling.
If a kid spills it, gets it on their skin, licks it,
    or swallows it,
    there's real danger.
So refusing to let anyone pump gas unless they have at least some grasp of the risks
    is a legitimate policy.

    Re: #26
Self-service has long been standard in the US and Europe, but the fuel-inlet design on cars there is actually different. In Japan oversight is split across the transport ministry, the trade ministry, and the fire agency, so it's a mess — but that excuse is still pretty dumb.

    Re: #62
If anything, not stepping in is the problem. It violates Article 40-3-28 of the Regulation on the Control of Hazardous Materials under the Fire Service Act. There's no penalty for the kid doing it or the parent allowing it, but in the worst case the store itself could get its business suspended. If customers won't listen, the station has to refuse service.
    122AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:34

Kerosene's fine since it doesn't vaporize easily. Gasoline is the scary one.
    155AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:48
    Re: #122
Kerosene doesn't ignite easily, but gasoline is volatile, so it catches fire (and can explode).

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Self-service gas stations were legalized under a 1998 revision to the Fire Service Act, but there is no law setting an age limit on who can actually operate the pump. At the same time, hazardous-materials regulations tied to the Fire Service Act require stations to confirm safety during refueling, which makes refusing to let a child who can’t grasp the risks pump gas a legitimate store policy. In the thread, “ignition from static electricity” tends to get treated as the symbolic danger, but the original article also flags burns and blindness from skin contact or swallowing gasoline — risks beyond static electricity that are easy to overlook in the discussion. It’s also worth clearing up that the claim “you need a license” is misinformation; pumping gas itself doesn’t require a hazardous-materials handler license.

  • Nikkei Slides Again on AI Bubble Fears as 5ch Traders Wail: ‘¥4 Million in Paper Losses’

On the night of Sunday, October 18, 2026, a thread about the Nikkei average on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (Live Broadcast G) board drew reactions from investors bracing for a steep continued drop on Monday. Rising bond yields at CoreWeave, the GPU-rental company that bankrolls much of the AI investment boom, were flagged as a sign of an “AI bubble bursting,” and posters holding semiconductor stocks like Kioxia reported paper losses topping 3 million yen, with some fearing it could hit 4 million yen by the next day. Still, some cooler heads argued the CoreWeave story was nothing new, and opinions diverged sharply between those sitting on NISA (tax-free investment account) gains over whether to sell, and those who’d only just started investing this year wondering how to respond.

It's happening because the market's judging that fundraising will slow down overall now that they have to issue high-interest bonds to raise capital

Isn't that a 'gap' (window), not a 'door'? (in Japanese stock-chart jargon, a price gap is called a 窓, literally 'window')

Tomorrow the Nikkei's going to break below the support line it's been building since July
There's a real chance it keeps sliding over the next month or so and drops below 60,000
Even buying the dip tomorrow would be an awkward position
But it should climb back up again by year-end
    77AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:18
But honestly, the AI bubble's been nothing but harmful at this point, so it's probably better if it just ends

    Re: #89
I cut my losses at 2.5 million yen

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

At the heart of this discussion is the rise in bond yields at CoreWeave, the GPU-rental company underpinning the AI investment boom. Posters in the thread noted that the yield increase stemmed from bondholders dumping the debt after interest costs began outpacing profit growth, splitting opinion between those who saw it as “old news, nothing to be surprised about now” and those who argued “this time it’s qualitatively different, since profits aren’t keeping up with interest burdens.” Another point of contention was the differing positions of investors using NISA (Japan’s tax-free investment account): those already sitting on unrealized gains versus those who’d only started in September of this year and suddenly found themselves facing a downturn disagreed over whether to sell or hold. One forecast floated in the thread — that the Nikkei would break its support line and fall into the 60,000-yen range — should be treated with caution, as it is strictly an anonymous poster’s technical analysis, not a confirmed outlook.

  • Sakura Ishiyama’s “Don’t give listeners a nickname” remark sparks reaction — 5ch: “It’ll just feed the haters”

The third episode of Nippon Broadcasting’s “Juice=Juice Juicy Talk,” airing October 18 at 9:00 PM, featured Sakura Ishiyama and Ikari Endo. On 5ch’s live-watch thread, reactions poured in when Ishiyama said, “Please don’t give listeners a nickname — it just becomes ammo for the haters.” The show’s chat about udon restaurants also got lively, with replies split over whether they meant Tsurutontan or Marugame Seimen. Ishiyama’s quiet personality and the veteran-listener catchphrase “the Seven Wonders of Sakuringo” (referring to her running gag of being late) were also hot topics.

    88AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:18
Probably because Tsurutontan has private rooms

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The practice of fans giving listeners nicknames is common across idol fandoms, not just Hello! Project, but it comes with a downside: once a nickname catches on, outside haters can easily use it as ammunition for mockery. Sakura Ishiyama’s request not to be given a nickname for listeners reads as a remark made with full awareness of that dynamic. The udon shop debated in the thread could have meant either Tsurutontan (an upscale udon chain with locations including Roppongi, known for its association with actress Mari Natsuki) or Marugame Seimen (a major self-service chain) — two places with very different price ranges and clienteles, which is why the replies disagreed about which one was meant. “The Seven Wonders of Sakuringo” is a phrase used among longtime listeners to refer to Ishiyama’s habit of running late, an expression that can seem abrupt without that context. Since the actual broadcast content can’t be confirmed from the thread itself, this article is limited to presenting the reactions that can be read from the live-chat replies.
