  • Sapporo Chamber Pushes to Bring Pro Baseball Back to Premist Dome — 5ch: “Floor’s Too Hard, Turf’s Too Thin”

It was reported that the Sapporo Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked Mayor Katsuhiro Akimoto to bring official first-team professional baseball games to Premist Dome (formerly Sapporo Dome), and the news drew a wave of reactions on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board. Ever since the Nippon-Ham Fighters relocated their home base to Es Con Field Hokkaido in 2023, the dome’s falling utilization rate has been a headache, and the Chamber of Commerce appears to be banking on an economic boost. In Japanese pro baseball, though, it’s notoriously hard for another team to hold official games in a rival team’s home territory without that team’s consent — making the Fighters’ stance the deciding factor. On the board, skepticism about the plan’s feasibility ran high, with posters slamming the dome’s artificial turf and rock-hard flooring, and others suggesting it’d be better used as Consadole Sapporo’s home ground.

Background and Key Points of This Story

In Japanese professional baseball, there’s an unwritten rule that another team can’t easily hold official games in a rival team’s home region without that team’s consent — meaning any push to add more NPB games in Hokkaido effectively hinges on the Nippon-Ham Fighters’ willingness. The Fighters moved their home base to Es Con Field Hokkaido in 2023, and since then the falling utilization of their former home, Sapporo Dome (now Premist Dome), has become an ongoing problem. The dome has a history of poor reviews from players and managers alike over its thin artificial turf and hard flooring, and on the message board many posters questioned how realistic this bid really is, pointing to exactly those facility issues. At the same time, other angles came up too — using the venue as Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo’s home ground, and the dome’s naming-rights income — giving the request a backdrop tied to stadium-management issues on both the baseball and soccer side.

  • Wolverine’s Glowing Reviews Contain a Mysterious Phrase: ‘I Am Not a Robot’

Multiple PS Store reviews for the PS5 game ‘Wolverine’ were found giving high star ratings while the review text itself literally contained the phrase ‘I am not a robot,’ sparking discussion on 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board. While many commenters speculated it was a leftover template artifact from having AI write first-person reviews, others pointed out that the review count has topped 48,000 and that they’ve barely heard any genuinely good buzz about the game — leaving the thread split over whether this is organized manipulation or just a coincidence.

Ah, so that's the trick lol

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This kind of boilerplate text leaking into reviews can happen when someone instructs an AI to “write a first-person user review,” and the AI mistakenly outputs verification phrases from its original prompt — like “I am not a robot” — verbatim. The example posted in the thread (post #49) looks like a textbook case of one of these “order sheets” being copy-pasted straight in. That said, this isn’t proof that the poster or publisher did it intentionally, and opinions in the thread are split — some pushed back, saying “I don’t think this is astroturfing” (post #63). Whether the PS Store’s review count (over 48,000) is high or low for a major title also became a talking point, but the only comparison offered was Death Stranding 2, with nothing to back it up like an industry average. What readers should be careful not to assume is that this leaked text is automatically proof of “organized rating manipulation” — most of the thread’s comments remain speculation and jokes rather than established fact.

  • Super Mario Kart’s Confirm Button Was Shockingly B, Not A — 5ch: “A Gets Mashed So Much It Breaks”

Some Super Famicom-era games actually assigned the confirm button to B instead of A. Super Mario Kart and Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) are prime examples — their manuals explicitly state “B button to confirm, X button to cancel.” Back then there was no standardized rule for which button confirmed, and it’s said that A gradually became the standard “confirm” button starting around Dragon Quest V. A thread on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry (Geha)” board took this fact as a jumping-off point and spun into discussion of the PlayStation’s ○/× confirm controversy and how Nintendo settled on the A/B layout to stay consistent with the Game Boy — sparking a lively debate about the history of button layouts.

There's no way Nintendo didn't have a plan for what each button does.
    A is confirm.
The SFC prototype had the easy-to-press Y/B position as B/A.
But the Game Boy's B/A layout was designed at a slight upward-right angle.
They decided to match that Game Boy upward-right layout,
and that's what turned into the Y/B, B/A mess that's dogged Nintendo hardware for decades.

    Re: #92
Within the Genesis lineup the policy stayed consistent the whole time: B = cancel, A = confirm, with C optionally working as confirm too. Why would Sega need to match Nintendo anyway?

Background and key points of this discussion

The convention that “A is the confirm button” in Japanese games didn’t take hold right from the Super Famicom’s launch — it formed gradually across multiple titles. In the thread, some argued Nintendo prioritized matching the Game Boy’s layout when deciding the A/B positions, while others held that A-as-confirm became more or less standard from Dragon Quest V onward. Meanwhile, the PlayStation’s ○/× confirm controversy stems from a separate cause: it was originally designed with ○ = confirm and × = cancel, but the Japanese spec was flipped to match the overseas standard of × for confirm — and that background became the focus of the debate. The two stories are often conflated, but their origins differ: the SFC-era “B confirms” quirk was a product of the transitional period before Nintendo established a unified rule, while the PS’s ○/× issue was a case of an already-settled rule being overturned afterward.

    Background and Talking Points

This stream began as a spur-of-the-moment call put out by Tsubaki Factory’s Nishimura Otoki on her own personal X account — notably not something driven by the talent agency’s official promotion. On 5ch, the two members’ singing drew strong praise, with some posters offering the flattering (if slightly loaded) comparison “the Reiwa-era Tsuji & Kago”*. At the same time, a number of posts expressed concern about song-part allocation at the upcoming Budokan concert and about ticket sales, suggesting that praise for the performance and the group’s overall popularity don’t necessarily move together. That said, comments about ticket trends or the popularity of specific members are only speculation from board posters — not officially announced figures or confirmed facts. It should also be noted that several posts making crude remarks about members’ physical appearance have been excluded from this article.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “King Nishimura Otoki: ‘Everyone!!!! Please clear your schedule this evening! Gather on Tsubaki’s Instagram around 17:50!! We’re gonna sing with Doi Fuuka!!’” See the original thread.

Translator’s notes: “King” (きんぐ) and “Fuu-chan” are the fans’ nicknames for Nishimura Otoki and Doi Fuuka, respectively. “The Reiwa-era Tsuji & Kago” refers to Tsuji Nozomi and Kago Ai, the famed early-2000s Morning Musume duo “W,” widely remembered for their vocal ability — a high compliment, though one poster found the comparison a bit much. “Rimista” is another regular Hello! Project livestream/talk program some fans watch alongside official Instagram Lives; exact details of its format aren’t specified in the thread. “Ressa” appears to be a fellow member’s nickname, per the original post; “fusianasan” is an old 2channel/5ch in-joke username some posters still use for laughs.

  • Oishinbo Gets New Anime After 34 Years — Akio Otsuka Inherits Yuzan Role from His Father

It has been announced that a new Oishinbo anime, titled New Oishinbo, will air in 2027. It’s the franchise’s first new anime in 34 years, since the 1993 TV special. Yohei Azakami will voice Shiro Yamaoka, and Hitomi Sasaki will voice Yuuko Kurita. The casting of Akio Otsuka as Yuzan Kaibara — taking over the role from his father Chikao Otsuka, who played the character in previous installments — has also become a talking point. On 5channel, reactions mixed anticipation with unease, including worries over the character designs, questions about how a story set in the 1980s will be presented in the Reiwa era, and comparisons to the recent wave of nostalgic manga remakes.

Nostalgia goggles aside, whether it's the writing or what, the Reiwa versions have lost that little bit of Heisei-era 'poison' they used to have, so there's no real charm left at all
It's like, watered-down but dressed up to look the part, which just makes it taste terrible

If anything, something like Chiikawa — not a remake, but actually born in the Reiwa era — feels fresher precisely because you can still catch a faint whiff of that 'poison'

    Background and Key Points

Oishinbo began serialization in 1983 and ran as a TV anime from 1988 through 291 episodes, becoming a beloved national franchise. Chikao Otsuka, who voiced Yuzan Kaibara for years, passed away in 2015, and this casting sees his son Akio Otsuka take over his father’s signature role. The ‘Fukushima nosebleed’ mentioned in the thread refers to a 2014 story arc in the original manga depicting the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which sparked major social controversy and a wave of criticism directed at the work and its author. This new series is billed as a ‘true sequel,’ but it hasn’t been officially clarified exactly where the previous story left off, and opinions in the thread were divided on that point. In recent years, Showa-era classics like Kinnikuman, Urusei Yatsura, and Kochikame have all seen remakes or sequels, a trend likely tied to the age of both the production staff and the original fanbase.

  • 11-Year-Old Yuki Kurihara Advances to Finals in Puyo Puyo Esports

At the Asian Games underway in Aichi/Nagoya, 11-year-old Yuki Kurihara (Tokyo Verdy), competing in the esports event “Puyo Puyo Esports,” won all three of his group-stage matches on September 24 against players from the Philippines, Kazakhstan, and South Korea, securing first place in Group A and a spot in the finals. The final takes place on the 26th, with a South Korean player considered the likely opponent. On 5channel, users expressed shock at skill far beyond what you’d expect from an elementary schooler, while also debating whether esports should really be called a “sport,” and discussing the South Korean player said to have quit his job to focus on competing.

    Thu, Sep 24, 3:38 PM

At the Asian Games in Aichi/Nagoya, Yuki Kurihara (Tokyo Verdy), the youngest member of Team Japan at age 11, competed in the group stage of the esports puzzle game “Puyo Puyo” on the 24th, winning all three matches to top Group A and advance to the final. Attention now turns to whether an “elementary-school gold medalist” will be crowned at the final on the 26th.

In Group A, contested among five players, Kurihara opened with a 3-0 win over a Filipino player, then cruised past a Kazakh player in his second match. In his third match, he beat a South Korean player 3-1 to lock in his finals berth. The final will be held on the 26th.

Even if he quit his job, can you actually make a lifetime's income off Puyo Puyo? If he were younger there'd still be a shot at winning and earning for years, but at 25… Puyo Puyo seems like a reflex-driven teens' game, so he probably can't stay on top that long. And even leveraging his record to become a streamer, I doubt Puyo Puyo draws that many viewers…

Though honestly, how seriously is any other country even taking Puyo Puyo these days?

    Background and Talking Points

Esports have become an official category at the Asian Games, with a wide range of titles adopted, from fighting games to racing games to mobile titles. On 5channel, the recurring debate over “whether esports counts as a sport” flared up again in this thread, as it always does. It’s also not unusual for teenagers to reach the top of the world in falling-block puzzle games and shooters, where reflexes matter most — the rise of young players like Kurihara is seen as a trend shared with other competitive games. The thread also contained posts making ethnically derogatory remarks about the South Korean player expected to be his final opponent; those have been excluded from this article.

  • Hinokuni Salamanders Cut Ties With Two Cheerleaders, Club Issues ‘Deep Apology’

Independent-league Kyushu Asia League team the Hinokuni (“Fire Country”) Salamanders announced on September 24 that they had terminated the contracts of MIRAI and HARUKA, two members of the club’s official dance unit “Sallys,” citing “a confirmed contract violation related to their activities.” The club apologized, saying “we sincerely apologize.” The specific nature of the violation was not disclosed. On 5channel’s Entertainment/Sports News+ board, speculation over the withheld details ran wild, while some questioned whether the termination was even fair given how little independent-league teams typically pay their staff, with comments like “They’re not idols — do they really have a no-dating rule?” and “If the pay’s that low, can you really blame them?”

The Hinokuni Salamanders have been crowned national champions twice (2022 and 2023) at the 'Japan Independent League Grand Championship,' which decides the No. 1 team among the independent leagues.

Background and key points of this story

The Kyushu Asia League that the Hinokuni Salamanders play in is an independent league where neither players nor staff are necessarily full-time professionals, and pay across the league is far from generous. Since the club didn’t disclose specifics of the violation behind this contract termination, the thread filled up with speculative, gossipy reactions — but there were also comments grounded in the harsh realities of independent-league pay, questioning the fairness of the decision itself, such as “They’re not idols — do they really have a no-dating rule?” and “If the pay’s that low, isn’t a side job unavoidable?” That some questioned the validity of the termination itself from a labor-conditions angle makes this more than just a tabloid-style story. It’s also worth noting — since it’s not widely known — that the Hinokuni Salamanders are far from an obscure team: they’re a genuine powerhouse, having won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 at the Grand Championship that crowns the independent leagues’ national champion.

  • Yui Asaka tears ankle ligaments, will sing seated at Osaka show — 5ch: “You get weaker every year you get older”

Former idol Yui Asaka (56) announced on Instagram that she missed a step and injured her ankle during a live show at Billboard Live in Yokohama on the 19th, and was diagnosed with damage to the anterior and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligaments. Because the injury is still affecting her, she says she’ll perform mostly seated at her Osaka show on the 26th. On 5ch, many commenters sympathized over the everyday injuries that come with age, while others reminisced about her signature hit “C-Girl,” and the thread also drifted into a tangent about the average age of 5ch users.

Yui Asaka (56) updated her Instagram on the 24th, reporting that she “twisted my foot and got injured while going down some stairs” during a live show at Billboard Live YOKOHAMA on the 19th. She explained that the diagnosis came back as “damage to the anterior and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligaments.”

Because of the injury, she explained that her Billboard Live Osaka show on the 26th “will likely mean singing almost entirely seated.” She added, “The stage will look a little different from usual, but my feeling that I want to deliver these songs to you hasn’t changed. I want to put my heart into every single song again this time and make it a show you can enjoy, so please come to the venue without worry. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Osaka.”

Both anterior and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligament damage are said to heal in about two to four weeks if it’s a mild sprain, four to eight weeks for a moderate partial tear, and three to six months for a full recovery from a severe complete tear — since she’s still able to perform, the injury appears to be on the milder end. Asaka apologized, saying, “Lastly… I’m truly sorry for the worry and trouble this has caused my fans and everyone involved.”

That's because people get weaker every time they grow older

Background and key points of this story

The anterior and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligaments connect the bones of the ankle and are commonly injured in sprains. As the article notes, a mild sprain typically heals in two to four weeks, while even a full tear takes at most three to six months — and since she herself says she can go ahead with the Osaka show seated, the injury looks relatively mild rather than something requiring surgery. Rather than misreading it as a fracture, the thread mostly centered on sympathy for the everyday injuries that come with age, along with nostalgia for her 1980s hit “C-Girl,” without much push toward sensationalizing it as a serious medical case. That said, the discussion also veered off into a tangent about the core age group of 5ch’s user base, making this a thread that wandered fairly far from its main topic.

  • No Song Titles on the Menu Screen? 5ch: “That’s Just Trash, Come On”

A thread titled “Beatmania is honestly way too crappy a game” popped up on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board, kicking off with complaints that the menu screen doesn’t display song titles at all — only genre and difficulty. The discussion then broadened into a debate about the series as a whole, with posters citing Konami’s shoot-’em-up series “Gradius” for comparison, suggesting the original was accessible to everyone while the sequels narrowed their focus toward hardcore fans. Some pushed back with specific sales figures, and while no consensus was reached, the thread settled into a familiar general take shared across rhythm games and shooters alike: “difficulty inflation widens the gap between newcomers and veterans.”

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Beatmania is the original music game Konami launched in 1997, spawning numerous spin-off series since, including IIDX. The complaint raised in the thread about missing song titles reflects a real quirk of the song-select screen, which shows only genre and difficulty — a usability issue that makes it harder for beginners to pick songs. Meanwhile, the exchange about Gradius used posts citing sales figures of “1 million units” for the original and “500,000” for the third installment as evidence, but it’s worth noting these numbers come from individual posters’ memories rather than confirmed statistics presented as fact in this article. The discussion centers on two main points: whether the original was made for everyone while its sequels narrowed toward a hardcore audience, and the broader claim that rhythm games and shooters decline as difficulty inflation widens the gap between newcomers and veterans. The latter point tends to come up regardless of genre, with some posts even citing the bullet-hell style of the Touhou series as an example.

When one poster admitted they only flick the signal on after the light turns green, others fired back: “Why wouldn’t you signal at all?” and “At least start a little before it turns green.” Meanwhile, some defended holding off, citing reasons like “I hate having it blink the whole time the light’s red” or “I want to save the bulb.” The discussion eventually expanded to cover sequential turn signals and even the merits of the licensing system itself.

If you can't meet that basic condition, you shouldn't be handed a license.

He's a spineless coward, so he's got no "life-sense" either. (a pun swapping "license" for "life-sense")

For broke young people, idiot-only sequential turn signals aren't enough — we need a whole new kind of turn signal.
Someone come up with an idea that actually makes people want to use it.

    Re: #82
Rainbow lighting is a must, obviously.
Blasting a flashy sound effect matters too.

    Re: #82
Catch someone not signaling, revoke their license.
    That's all it takes.
Doesn't even need to be caught live — video evidence should be enough.
    85AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:06
Sequential turn signals make you look kind of dumb.
    (*Just my personal opinion.)

    Re: #85
Actually, that's a groundbreaking design automakers racked their brains over specifically for idiots who won't signal.
    One of the great inventions.
    87AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:07
Sequential turn signals aren't even trendy anymore, are they?
Only the extreme-camber show-car crowd still rocks them.

    Re: #87
It's a great turn signal that's still standard on the current-model Alphard, you know. (Toyota Alphard, a popular luxury minivan)
    108AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:13
If they made a turn signal with a badass sound, people would start flicking it on just for the vibe even when they're not turning.

The show-off-kid turn signal has an unexpected flaw, lol, no good.

    Re: #108
    Way too hard…
    116AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:20
With this, everyone would signal just to look cool.

    Re: #116
If it costs too much, it'll never reach the broke young people who don't signal in the first place.
    128AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:27
    Re: #116
Wait, does this mean if you leave your signal on while waiting at a light, this just stays projected on the ground the whole time?
    119AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:23
More and more people out there who only think about themselves and getting in everyone else's way.
    123AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:24
    Re: #119
Getting those types to want to signal on their own — that's good social engineering right there.
    126AnonymousSep 24, 2026 17:25
    Re: #119
    Nah, that's not it.
They don't even realize they're being a nuisance.
They just figure they're a good driver, that's all.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The post that sparked this article — “using your turn signal is uncool” — humorously voices the mindset of drivers who hold off on signaling. Japan’s Road Traffic Act requires drivers to signal in advance before turning or changing lanes, and failing to signal, or signaling too late, can result in a citation. In the thread, the practical question of “when to signal” got tangled up with the etiquette question of “some people just don’t signal at all,” leading to moments where the two sides talked past each other. The discussion also touched on the reputation of sequential turn signals and equipment on newer car models, broadening well beyond a simple critique of manners.
