  • Schauessen Shrinks Its Sausages — 5ch: “It’s Turned Into Pork Bits”

Culinary researcher Ryuji commented on a change to the content volume of Nippon Ham’s popular sausage “Schauessen,” sparking discussion on 5ch. The official Schauessen account cited soaring raw material costs and supply instability as reasons for reducing the number of sausages per pack, while touting an increase in per-piece weight as a “boost in meatiness.” On the thread, reactions split between viewing this as a “de facto price hike” and praising the company’s approach. Many posters also weighed in with comparisons to rival brand “Kaoru” and their own theories on the relationship between price hikes and quality/quantity.

    Mon, Oct 5, 3:09 PM

Culinary researcher Ryuji (40) updated his official X (formerly Twitter) account by the 5th, commenting on the de facto price increase of a popular product.

That day, the official X account for Nippon Ham’s coarse-ground wiener sausage “Schauessen” announced that it would be cutting the content volume due to soaring raw material costs and unstable supply. “But we didn’t want to just cut back,” the account told users. “So we increased the weight per sausage and boosted the meaty texture.”

Kaoru (a rival sausage brand) has been five-to-a-bag forever, so I'm already used to five wieners per pack.

    Honestly, Kaoru is way tastier.
The amount of meat juice is totally different.
If more people caught on, it'd probably knock Schauessen off the top spot.

    8AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:38
True, eating 5-6 as a family — meaning 1-2 per person — is really the proper serving size for Schauessen.
I bet a ton of people polish off a whole bag or two solo though.
    9AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:38
Why was that exact piece count chosen in the first place?
Why was that exact weight chosen in the first place?
There must have been careful, deliberate reasoning behind it.
Companies should really think hard about whether changing that just "to keep the retail price down" is actually the right call.
    11AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:38
Schauessen has turned into pork bits.
    12AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:39
People who buy Schauessen will keep buying it up to a point, I guess.
We go with Kaoru at our place though.
    13AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:39
Did this lose its shelf space after the price hike?
    15AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:39
If consumers hate fewer pieces and retailers hate the price tag changing, then just shrink the overall amount, make the Schauessens pork-bit sized, and cram a ton of them into the bag.
    16AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:39
I always buy the jumbo bag of Schauessen so I'm not sure — is that one shrinking too?
    17AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:39

Price goes up, size goes down, and it tastes worse — that's basically the standard combo these days.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

“Soaring raw material costs and unstable supply” is an issue facing the food industry at large — price hikes have been hitting everything from Schauessen to potato chips. What split opinion on the thread boiled down to one question: whether to credit the company for offsetting the cut with a heavier per-piece weight, or to see the reduced piece count as a de facto price hike regardless. Another notable feature was the repeated comparison to rival brand “Kaoru,” which drew concentrated attention as a competitor known for its balance of price and satisfaction. Meanwhile, the only thing quoted in the original article is Nippon Ham’s own announcement — the text never actually shows what “true feelings” Ryuji himself expressed. Readers should be careful not to jump to conclusions about the content based on the word “true feelings” in the headline alone.

  • 11 Hours a Day Glued to Social Media: 5ch Reacts to Report on ‘Dopamine Kids’ — ‘Old Guys Are Just as Bad’

The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the reality facing second-year junior high school girls in Osaka who keep scrolling social media, only to find hours have slipped by before they notice. Overseas, there’s a growing movement to restrict minors’ social media use, amid concerns about the effects on mental and physical health. The 5ch thread reacting to this report was full of confusion over the unfamiliar term “dopa-gaki” (“dopamine kid”), alongside comments like “people in their 50s are more addicted than middle and high schoolers” and “we were the same way back in the old flat-rate dial-up internet days (Telehodai).” Many posters argued that social media addiction isn’t a generational issue but a problem with mechanisms built to trigger dopamine release.

They keep scrolling social media, and before they know it, hours have passed. The number of young people with this kind of “social media addiction” is rising. Concerns about the impact on mental and physical health have sparked moves overseas to restrict use by minors.

Junior high school girls, phones in hand, say they “end up watching social media for way too long” (September, Kita Ward, Osaka)

In mid-September, in Chayamachi, Umeda — an Osaka district lined with fashion buildings — three second-year junior high school girls from Osaka walked by, phones in colorful cases in hand.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The Yomiuri Shimbun’s report covered junior high school students in Osaka who say they “end up watching social media for way too long” on their phones, framed against a backdrop of overseas movements to restrict minors’ social media use. The article itself doesn’t go into specific age-restriction laws or name particular countries with regulations — its main focus is simply the “reality of addiction.” What split opinion in the thread was confusion over the new term “dopa-gaki” itself, and whether the addiction problem should be limited to middle and high schoolers at all. Posters who remember the dial-up internet era or the golden age of PCs repeatedly chimed in with comments like “we were the same way” and “people in their 50s are more addicted,” with many framing social media addiction not as a generational issue but as a structure where dopamine-triggering mechanisms pull everyone in regardless of age. At the same time, some worried about the cost burden of phones and in-app charges, tying the addiction discussion back to household finances. One point readers might misread is that “dopa-gaki” looks like a put-down aimed only at middle and high schoolers, but the overwhelming consensus in the thread was self-aware: “old guys are just as bad.”

  • Kano Eikou’s Confession of 154 Allergies Stuns 5ch: ‘All 154 of Them?’

Comedian Kano Eikou revealed on an October 3 radio broadcast that L’Arc-en-Ciel’s hyde had invited him out to eat. Kano is known for having one of the most severe allergy profiles in Japanese show business — at its peak, he tested positive for 154 different allergens — and hyde reportedly asked him, “Is Chinese food okay?” out of concern. The confession sparked debate on 5ch over how much allergy information diners should realistically disclose to restaurants. Some argued “there’s no way you can list all of that,” while others countered that “once you factor in cross-reactivity, confirming everything verbally is basically impossible” — reactions to the number 154 varied widely.

    Mon, Oct 5, 14:23

On Saturday, October 3, the radio program “Sandwichman the Radio Show Saturday” (Nippon Broadcasting, every Saturday 1-3 PM), hosted by comedy duo Sandwichman’s Date Mikio and Tomizawa Takeshi, aired as usual. With Date still out recovering, solo comedian Kano Eikou once again filled in as guest.

On the show, Kano revealed that he’d been invited out to eat by one of his idols, L’Arc-en-Ciel’s hyde. Kano, who has one of the most extreme allergy profiles in the entertainment industry — at his peak testing positive for a staggering 154 allergens — said hyde even asked him, “Is Chinese food okay for you?” out of concern.

Gluten-free has gotten trendy the last few years even among people without allergies,
so now you can get wheat-free frozen karaage and gyoza too. You can get by okay.

    Background and Points of Debate

Under Japan’s food labeling standards, only a handful of “specified raw materials” are legally required to be labeled, and that requirement mainly applies to packaged food — it doesn’t uniformly extend to menu labeling at restaurants. That leaves it largely up to the customer to figure out how much allergy information to communicate to a restaurant and get confirmed. On the thread, opinions split between those who felt “just ask” is good enough and those who argued that with 154 items, verbal confirmation simply isn’t realistic. That said, 154 is the total count of items that tested positive — the number that actually trigger severe symptoms when eaten is likely much smaller. The fact that a big number doesn’t necessarily equal severity is an easy point to overlook given how much attention the figure itself has drawn.

A thread about a new gaming PC priced around ¥270,000 blew up on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. The thread title goaded readers with “the Switch 2 is finished,” but replies quickly turned to complaints about the high price and the specs — the bundled GPU is in the RTX 5060 family with only 8GB of video memory (VRAM). At the same time, comparisons to the PS5 and talk of generational gaps in upscaling tech like DLSS sparked debate, with some arguing “the PC market is far bigger than the Switch 2’s” — so opinion never settled into a single verdict.

    Re: #48
Yeah, that's just how it is.
Even PSSR (based on FSR 4.1) is upscaling-only and already about two generations behind DLSS,
and with no frame generation on top of that, it's a three-generation gap.

On PS5, only a handful of titles even use FSR 3.1's frame generation,
and that's not AI-based, so it's not even in the same league as DLSS.

The guy harping on about the model-number "suffix" (like Ti/Super tiers) is just some old-timer whose knowledge hasn't updated in 20 years.

Background and key points of this debate

The sticking points for this gaming PC were price and GPU specs. The bundled GPU is in the mid-range RTX 5060 family, and the unit costs roughly ¥270,000. Some in the thread argued “the 5060 is nearly twice as powerful as the PS5,” while others pointed out that “8GB of VRAM feels thin for a modern gaming PC” — one reason opinion split so sharply. The generational gap between NVIDIA’s DLSS and the upscaling tech used on PS5 systems (PSSR/FSR) was also a hot topic, with the presence or absence of frame generation cited as a key performance difference. At the same time, some argued “the PC market is far bigger than the Switch 2’s,” showing the debate couldn’t be reduced to a simple “it’s finished” verdict. Note that the GPU model names and benchmark figures cited here come from posts within the thread and may differ from official performance figures.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry, “Geha”) thread “[Nintendo Bad News] Gaming PCs Have Finally Arrived — Switch 2 Is Finished.”

  • Smoke-belching truck drives into gas station — 5ch reacts: ‘That could’ve been a disaster’

On the morning of the 5th, a commotion broke out at a gas station in Onojo City, Fukuoka Prefecture, when a 4-ton truck slowly drove onto the premises with white smoke rising from its cargo bed. An employee reportedly called the fire department, saying “the truck came in with its cargo bed on fire.” On the thread, many voiced shock, saying “of all places, it drove into a spot where open flames are strictly forbidden,” while others defended the move, arguing “this is the only place around with equipment to handle it” — sparking a debate over just where a truck with a fire onboard should actually flee to. A similar past case — a sweet-potato vending truck reportedly driving into a fire station — was also cited, and opinions were divided over just how much firefighting equipment gas stations actually have on hand.

This morning in Onojo City, Fukuoka Prefecture, there was a commotion when a smoking truck drove onto the grounds of a gas station.

A single truck, driving slowly while white smoke poured from its cargo bed.

At around 9:30 this morning, in the Kamiohori area of Onojo City, Fukuoka Prefecture, an employee at the gas station called the fire department, saying “a 4-ton truck came in with its cargo bed on fire.”

    Re: #187
If they only started filling the tank after getting the call, there's no way it'd be in time

Background and key points of this discussion

Gas stations are strict no-open-flame zones, yet under Japan’s Fire Service Act, fueling stations are only required to keep a handful of small (Type 5) fire extinguishers on site — they’re not equipped with water tanks or high-pressure hose systems capable of handling a large vehicle fire. Two views floated in the thread — that “gas stations are safe because of their firewalls” and that “all they really have is a few fire extinguishers, which is unnerving” — both hold a grain of truth. The firewalls are designed to stop flames from spreading to neighboring buildings, not to extinguish a burning vehicle itself, which is likely why, in this case, calling the fire department and evacuating took priority over trying to put the fire out on the spot. Commenters repeatedly brought up a past, similar-sounding episode of a “sweet-potato truck driving into a fire station,” but the details are based on people’s memories and haven’t been verified with a specific date or location. Likewise, what actually caused the smoke (a discarded cigarette, the cargo itself catching fire, etc.) hadn’t been confirmed in the original news report at the time of writing, so that explanation should be treated as thread speculation rather than fact.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (News Express+) thread “[Fukuoka] ‘We saw smoke, so it drove into the gas station’ — Smoking truck barges in.”

  • Even F2P players can pull ~200 times a month — Inside Suikoden: Star Leap’s gacha, 5ch says “you don’t even need to pay”

A thread went up on 5ch’s Newsoku VIP board after a poster reported finally pulling the character they’d been after from the mobile game Suikoden: Star Leap’s gacha. The thread turned into a discussion of just how generous the gacha is — commenters noted that the monthly event alone hands out enough currency for 160 pulls, and once you factor in daily stone collection, players can rack up close to 200 pulls a month. On the other hand, some pointed out that pulling a character just once isn’t enough to unlock their full potential — you need “totsu” (landing duplicate copies to power them up), a common mechanic in these games — which sparked debate over just how far you can really get without spending money.

(っ´ω`c)Being a semi-regular like me, where people actually recognize you, is rough though……

    Background and Key Points

Star Leap is a gacha mobile game featuring characters from the Suikoden series, apparently released to ride the wave of the anime’s broadcast. The “totsu” mentioned in the thread refers to acquiring duplicate copies of a character to unlock their exclusive skills or raise their performance ceiling — a revenue structure common to many Japanese gacha games, which is why pulling a character just once doesn’t let them show their full potential. It’s also not unusual in the industry for operators to pad out event rewards early on to draw in new players, only to adjust distribution rates and balance (a so-called “loadout check”) six months to a year later. The “200 pulls a month” figure cited in the thread reflects current distribution rates, and readers should keep in mind that this could change going forward.

  • Manga ‘Manchurian Opium Squad’ Gets Anime Adaptation — Crime Thriller Set in 1937 Manchuria

An anime adaptation of the manga “Manchurian Opium Squad” has been announced. The series had been on extended hiatus after artist Kanoko passed away on November 8, 2025, from choroidal malignant melanoma, but serialization resumed today, October 5, in issue 45 of Weekly Young Magazine. Taking over the art duties is manga artist Tsurushima, a senior “brother disciple” from the days when Kanoko worked as an assistant on “Kingdom.” The story is set in Manchuria in 1937 (Showa 12) and follows a former Kwantung Army soldier who lost sight in his right eye during the war as he gets drawn into opium smuggling — a crime thriller. On 5ch forums, commenters debated the merits of a drug-themed work, how closely it sits to historical fact, and comparisons to “Breaking Bad.”

It has been announced that the manga “Manchurian Opium Squad” will receive an anime adaptation. Detailed information on the production studio, staff, and cast will be announced later via the official website and other channels. Additionally, serialization of the original manga resumed today, October 5, in issue 45 of Weekly Young Magazine. Artist Kanoko, who had been drawing the series, passed away on November 8, 2025, from choroidal malignant melanoma, putting the series on extended hiatus; taking over art duties is manga artist Tsurushima, a senior “brother disciple” from when Kanoko worked as an assistant on the manga “Kingdom.” The new issue carries two chapters: the first half is chapter 216, the last one Kanoko completed before passing, and the second half is chapter 217, drawn by Tsurushima. Kanoko will continue to be involved going forward in the form of original art concept credit.

“Manchurian Opium Squad” is a crime thriller set in Manchuria in 1937 (Showa 12), depicting how Hikata Isamu, a Kwantung Army soldier who lost sight in his right eye on the battlefield, gets drawn into opium smuggling to save his sick mother — a choice that sends both his own fate and Manchuria’s spiraling out of control.

The British were the ones who got the Chinese hooked on opium, and the Kwantung Army jumped on the bandwagon to rake in war funds — the story is about skimming off that pile.

This is a manga where the story kicks off with the hero being hunted by the Kwantung Army itself — the old Japanese Empire is the enemy here. No way this turns into an international incident.

I've read a few chapters — there's betrayal and double-dealing among the Chinese characters too, so it's not like only the Japanese Kwantung Army gets painted as the villain. Might still rub some people the wrong way either way, though.

    Same creator as Guilty Circle (´ . .̫ . `)

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The opium-smuggling story this series depicts in Manchuria draws on real history — Britain’s role in spreading opium through China during the Opium Wars, and the fact that the Kwantung Army used opium revenue as one of its funding sources during the Manchukuo era. Opinions in the thread were split: some worried this kind of material could get mistaken for straight historical fact, while others pointed out that since the hero is hunted by the Kwantung Army itself, the story can’t be read as one-sidedly glorifying Japan. It’s not unheard of in the manga industry for another artist to take over after the original creator’s sudden death, but what stands out here is that the final chapter Kanoko had completed before the hiatus ran first, with Kanoko continuing to be credited as the original art concept creator going forward. “Breaking Bad” tends to come up as a comparison for drug-themed works, but that likely reflects its status as a widely referenced forerunner in the genre rather than something specific to how this title is being received.

    Background and Key Points

“News to” is the new show Yomiuri TV launched on 10/5 as the successor to Nippon TV’s “Miyaneya,” and Peco’s remark came during the debut episode’s segment “My Own Best Answer.” Japan’s rail system still runs on a mix of paper tickets and IC cards/QR codes, and the thread saw a string of comments pointing out that “paper tickets haven’t been abolished” and “if you don’t ride trains regularly, a ticket is fine enough” — with many voices defending Peco. On the flip side, the co-stars who lectured her also drew pushback, with accusations of “just trying to flex” and “isn’t this harassment?” — leaving the thread split over who actually counts as “normal.” Discussion also spilled over into opinions on the show itself (impressions of the MC, the direction of its segments), but that’s really a separate question about the show’s quality, distinct from the issue of Peco’s lack of cashless experience itself.

The national box office rankings for October 2-4 were released, and Haruna Kawaguchi’s true-story drama “Even If Mom Is No Longer in This World: My Life’s Diary” debuted at No. 1. Based on the memoir of a young woman who died of colon cancer, the film earned 440 million yen in its first three days. Steven Spielberg’s new film “Disclosure Day” came in second. On 5ch, one thread saw comments like “terminal-illness films reliably hit no matter who makes them,” while discussion also heated up comparing attendance with other films released around the same time — including the 14th-place debut of Haruna Ayase’s “First Voice.”

The top 10 national box office rankings for October 2-4 were released by Eiga Tsushinsha (Movie Report Co.), and Haruna Kawaguchi’s starring film “Even If Mom Is No Longer in This World: My Life’s Diary” debuted at No. 1.

The film is based on the memoir of Nodoka Endo, whose story drew attention after being featured in the “Wedding Trip” segment of Nippon TV’s variety show “The 100 Million People’s Big Question!? Warattekoraete!” (lit. “Laugh and Bear It!”). Diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at 21, Nodoka — the protagonist, played by Kawaguchi as the eldest daughter of the Kushibiki family — never lets go of her love for her husband Shoichi and their child right up until she passes away at 24. Mahiro Takasugi plays Shoichi. The director is Yuki Yamato, known for “Drowning Knife” (“Obareru Naifu”). The film earned 440 million yen in its opening three days.

The national box office rankings are published weekly by Eiga Tsushinsha (Movie Report Co.) based on major theaters nationwide, and attendance figures and box office revenue can diverge depending on how a film is screened. Titles that run a lot of premium formats like IMAX tend to earn more revenue than their attendance numbers alone suggest — ‘The Odyssey,’ mentioned in the thread, is cited as one such example. It’s also typical for roughly a year to pass between filming and release, so an actor’s current activities don’t necessarily reflect what was going on when the film was shot. The pattern of true-story and terminal-illness-themed films performing strongly isn’t unique to this case — it shows up in past hits too, and having a source memoir or a TV feature piece helps build buzz ahead of release. On the other hand, differences in release scale (number of screens) directly affect attendance numbers, so a gap between how well-received a film is and how well it actually draws crowds is a common phenomenon in this industry.

  • Charged ¥1.5 Million to Move Out: 5ch Says ‘That’s Just Highway Robbery’

A post claiming a landlord demanded ¥1.5 million in restoration costs after the poster moved out of a rental he’d lived in for 11 years went up on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board. After photos of holes in the walls, rotted flooring, and a urine-stained toilet were posted, the thread split between those saying “that’s way too much of a rip-off” and those arguing “with that much negligence, ¥1.5 million isn’t unreasonable.” Debate continued over how to account for normal wear-and-tear depreciation and how to interpret the official restoration guidelines.

Never cleaned, so the place was covered in mold and the toilet was crusted with urine scale.
The flooring in the changing room had a hole in it, and part of the wall had a hole too.
The bathtub's cracked and some of the doors have holes in them.
    5AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:11
    That's seriously getting ripped off.

    14AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:13
If you've lived there for years, shouldn't that just count as normal wear-and-tear and be basically free?

Not if you didn't even do the bare minimum of upkeep.

Apparently depreciation does get factored in.
I was told I only need to cover labor plus the door, toilet, and bath.

    Re: #14
There were so many disputes that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism made a guideline on depreciation standards, but
shady landlords apparently just say "it's only a guideline, we're not obligated to follow it."

If it actually goes to court, rulings follow the guideline, but it's such a hassle that most people give up, so landlords win more often than not.
    16AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:14
I want to upload pics but I don't know how.

I left AC leaks and a roof leak unattended and the flooring surface peeled up.

So can you actually come up with ¥1.5 million?

I'm getting it set up as installments.

Move-out costs vary completely depending on room count and floor area, so just posting the price alone doesn't tell us if it's fair.

That's what I thought too, but looking at the photos, the changing room isn't even flooring and that toilet isn't the type that gets urine scale buildup.
Show us the estimate so we can see how you're actually getting ripped off.

    Re: #68
Isn't that yellow vertical streak on the toilet bowl urine scale?
And the "changing room" is the spot right after you get out of the bath — it's hidden behind the fridge, but part of the flooring there rotted and got a hole in it.
Hang tight on the estimate, I'll post it once I get home a bit later.

I'll be honest with you —
at first glance, ¥1.5 million isn't a rip-off amount at all.
    It's a 2LDK, right?
There's just way too much tenant negligence here.
    90AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:44
    Re: #84
Really? I got spooked because it felt way too expensive, but I guess it can't be helped.
As for the negligence, it's basically just not cleaning, letting it get filthy, and keeping a cat.
With 5 people including the kids living there, I figure some of this was bound to happen, and honestly after 11 years I was hoping they'd say "thanks for staying so long" and only charge me something like ¥100,000 for move-out.
    92AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:46
    Re: #90
I got hit with a ¥600,000 move-out bill for an office my late father used, but I sent a written letter laying out my reasons for refusing to pay, and it ended up being free.
Though I did get an angry phone call over it.
    96AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:48
    Re: #90
Tenants have what's called a "duty of care as a good manager" — an obligation to clean regularly and keep the place tidy.
If you don't clean and let mold take over and just leave it, that's on the tenant to pay for.
Normal wear-and-tear is the landlord's responsibility, but the basic duty to restore the property falls on the tenant.
Keeping something you borrowed from someone else clean is just common sense.

    11 years.
At first I was happy, you know? Moving out of my parents' place, living with my wife and kid, having my own home.
But then work got busy, I stopped tidying up, and as the kid grew the place felt cramped with nowhere to put anything, and it started making me irritable.
When my mortgage got approved, it felt like being freed from that hell.
    106AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:52
    Re: #98
If you lived there 11 years, depreciation should get you a decent reduction.
Mine went from ¥250,000 down to ¥20,000.
    120AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:56
    Re: #98
Wait, you had a wife there too and it still got this filthy?
    101AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:49
You don't have to pay that.
    ¥1.5 million is definitely a rip-off.
Nothing listed in Re: #1 is bad enough to need a full replacement, so even going by the book I'd guess it tops out around ¥500,000.
    118AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:55
    Re: #101
That take sounds way too clueless.
There's no way this stays under ¥500,000 by any reasonable look.

    Re: #103
Depreciation basically applies to wallpaper and cushion flooring over a 6-year schedule,
plus there's the normal wear-and-tear category — scratches and stains that happen from everyday living.
Flooring sometimes gets calculated on the same depreciation schedule as the building itself, so for a wood-frame building (22-year depreciation) after 11 years of residence, you could argue for only paying half even on a full replacement.
It's different for reinforced concrete, but either way we can't really say without seeing the estimate.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

When it comes to rental move-out costs, one benchmark is the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s guideline on “Disputes and Guidelines Concerning Restoration to Original Condition.” Damage and fading that occur from everyday living are classified as “normal wear-and-tear,” which falls on the landlord, and the tenant’s share shrinks according to depreciation schedules — six years for wallpaper and cushion flooring, and for the building itself, 22 years for wood-frame construction, for example. However, this guideline carries no legal force, and as pointed out in the thread, unscrupulous landlords sometimes dismiss it as “just a guideline, not something we’re required to follow” — unless a tenant actually takes it to court, where rulings do follow the guideline, many simply give up and the landlord’s asking price wins out. In this case, tenant-side negligence such as cat damage and insufficient cleaning is also mixed in, making it hard to judge from photos alone whether this is a rip-off or a fair charge.
