  • Angerme OG Mizuki Murota: “Mifu-chan Is So Cute I Copied Her Hairstyle”

Former Angerme member Mizuki Murota posted that she copied the hairstyle of junior idol “Mifu-chan” because it was just too cute, sparking a thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board (Morning Coffee). Alongside photos of “Mifu-Mifu,” commenters welcomed the news with remarks like “You’re both adorable,” while others couldn’t resist teasing about the hairstyle itself, leaving reactions split.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Mizuki Murota was one of Angerme’s early members, and even after leaving the group she still frequently comes up in discussions about Angerme and Hello! Project as a whole, as a “legendary OG” (former member). Since Hello! Project groups often interact through joint concerts and similar events, when an OG praises a member of another group, fans who follow multiple groups tend to welcome it warmly — though it also invites sarcastic jabs about “cozying up to the flagship (most popular) group.” That fan culture is the backdrop for the reactions seen early in the thread. It’s also a familiar pattern on anonymous forums for hairstyle talk to slide straight into teasing about hair volume or thinning hair, so even a friendly topic often derails into comments about looks. Readers are best off treating threads like this as a slice of fan interaction, while taking any excessive appearance-related comments with a grain of salt.

  • Morning Musume。’26 Sells Out Same-Day Tickets in Nagoya — 5ch: ‘Say What You Will, Musume Still Fills Seats’

On September 23, the sellout of same-day tickets for Morning Musume。’26’s concert tour ‘Chou Heartful 11’ Nagoya show (Forest Hall, capacity 2,291) became a hot topic on a 5ch Hello! Project thread. Around the same time, Juice=Juice also sold out same-day tickets for both its matinee and evening performances at Nagoya’s Village Hall (1,146 seats), sparking a clash between pushback (‘Don’t just compare them when the capacities are different’) and defense (‘Tickets vanished instantly after a wave of fan-club lottery losers, so demand is well above capacity’). The thread also touched on the boost from Oda Sakura’s graduation and the news that Forest Hall is slated to close at the end of fiscal 2027.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

A ‘same-day ticket sellout’ means different things for different Hello! Project groups, depending on venue size and how the fan-club presale lottery played out. Morning Musume。’26’s Nagoya show was at Forest Hall (capacity 2,291), while Juice=Juice played the Village Hall (1,146 seats) inside the same Nagoya Congress Center — since the capacities differ by nearly double, it’s hard to compare the weight of each sellout directly. As pointed out in the thread, Juice=Juice’s same-day sellouts are often discussed alongside its tendency for tickets to vanish instantly, driven by the large number of fans who lost the fan-club presale lottery, while Morning Musume。’26 is also getting an extra lift from the demand around Oda Sakura’s graduation tour. Forest Hall is also reportedly set to close at the end of fiscal 2027, which could affect venue choices for future Hello! Project shows in Nagoya.

    Background and Talking Points

“Hachitsu GAMES” is an ongoing series produced by Famitsu, streamed on its YouTube and niconico channels, in which Hello! Project members play games together. Past episodes have featured various member pairings in both head-to-head and co-op formats, and in the thread, commenters reminisced about other pairings — like “Ebatako (Endo Ayakari & Oda Sakura) vs. Sakuringo (Ishiyama Sakura & Endo Ayakari)” — while others called for the return of the competitive, head-to-head format. The thread also noted that September 29 is a crowded day for Hello! Project events, with ANGERME’s autumn tour stop in Chiba and an M-line Sato fan club event both falling on the same date, which fans found notable. “Super Bunny Man” was mentioned as a game that produced memorable reactions in a past episode, though it’s worth noting those details come from posters’ recollections in the thread rather than any official statement from the show.

*This article was compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “[Hello! Project] Juice=Juice’s Ishiyama Sakura and Endo Ayakari to Stream “Hachitsu GAMES” on September 29, 2026 — “Log Riders” & “Super Bunny Man”.”

  • Tsubaki Factory’s Yasumi Tanimoto: The ‘Beloved Leader’ in Her 10th Year — 5ch: “She’s Basically Got Zero Haters”

On 5ch’s “Morning Coffee” thread, posters discussing Yasumi Tanimoto, leader of Tsubaki Factory, called her “a rare type of member even by Hello! Project’s long history.” While she isn’t seen as particularly strong in singing or dancing, the thread praised her overwhelming stage presence, her looks, and the long-running affection fans have shown her over the years. At the same time, some posters were harsher, arguing that after 10 years in the group she should have improved her skills by now, and some even named her as one reason the group has struggled to break out. The thread lit up over the bigger question of whether an idol’s value should be measured by skill or by popularity.

    1AnonymousSep 22, 2026 20:12
You can't sum her up with a singing score or a dancing score, and yet she's got real presence.

But that overwhelming character and standing of hers came out of surviving brutal criticism. Her groupmates trashed her, and with no real skills, even the "dd" (fans who support multiple idols rather than having one favorite) didn't view her favorably for years. She endured all that to become the Yasumi Tanimoto she is today.

    Background and Talking Points

Hello! Project groups tend to keep members for a long time, and it’s not unusual for founding members to stay active for years — but it’s rare for someone to hold the exact same unshaken position for around a decade. Yasumi Tanimoto is one such veteran, and the thread treated her as a textbook case of “skill evaluation” and “fan support” not necessarily lining up. The view that an idol’s worth can’t be measured by singing and dancing ability alone — that an approachable personality and a stable presence on stage are just as important — is a point often raised across idol culture generally, not just within Hello! Project. That said, some posters in the thread noted that her singing has actually improved recently now that she’s getting more vocal parts, so it’s worth keeping in mind that framing her purely as “a veteran whose skills never improved” may not quite match where things stand today.

*This article was compiled by excerpting and summarizing the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Isn’t Yasumi Tanimoto a pretty rare type of member even for Hello! Project’s whole history?“.

  • Mixed Reactions to “I Can’t Stand Idols Outside Hello! Project” — 5ch: “As a Genre, Hello! Project Is Basically Enka”

A thread titled “I really can’t stand female idols outside of Hello! Project,” posted on 5ch’s Morning Musume-related board (nicknamed “Ōkami,” or “the Wolf board”), drew a wave of reactions. The original poster complained about other groups’ “put-on voices” and Nogizaka46’s “synthetic-sounding unison vocals,” and while plenty of replies agreed, others pushed back, suggesting it’s “not that you can’t stand them, you’re just not interested,” or calmly compared it to how rock, jazz, and baseball fans all have different tastes — “different genres just mean different values.” The thread ultimately turned into a clash between people criticizing the Wolf board’s notorious “elitism” and those defending it.

I don't dislike Nogizaka46 or anything, but listening to the Auto-Tuned unison vocals on their lead tracks drives me a little crazy.

    Background and Key Points

Hello! Project is a long-running idol production project home to groups like Morning Musume, and its fan board on 5ch is nicknamed “Ōkami” (the Wolf board). That board has a history of being criticized by fans of other groups as having a strong sense of “elitism,” and this thread’s backlash against the “can’t stand them” comment follows that same pattern. Opinions in the thread split over whether the dislike stems from genuine discomfort with certain singing styles (unison vocals, put-on voices) or is simply a lack of interest in other genres — no clear consensus emerged. It’s also worth noting that claims about attendance numbers or CD sales are personal impressions without cited sources, not actual statistics. As the rock, jazz, and baseball fan comparisons illustrate, differing values across genres are nothing unusual, and this kind of “rejection of other genres” isn’t unique to idol culture.

  • BEYOOOOONDS’ Satoyoshi Uutan Shares Birthday Wishes: “I Want ‘Hai to Diamond’ to Go Viral!” — 5ch Reacts

BEYOOOOONDS’ Satoyoshi Uutan, who celebrated her birthday as part of the Hello! Project initiative “60TRY Bu,” made waves on 5ch after sharing her hopes for the future: “I want to go viral,” “I want to make ‘Hai to Diamond’ go viral,” and “I want to get on a music show.” Within Hello! Project, Juice=Juice’s songs went viral on social media and in live-performance videos, which led to music-show appearances — but BEYOOOOONDS hasn’t caught that same wave yet. In the thread, users debated why the gap between the two groups exists, revisited past incidents discussed within Hello! Project, and weighed in on the merits of the song “Hai to Diamond” itself.

Going viral isn't that easy — just look at how 'Kurakura' and 'Ketsuron kara Itte Choudai' never took off

    Background and Key Points

The backdrop to this discussion is that Juice=Juice, another Up-Front Group act, has racked up growing view counts on live-performance videos and music videos in recent years, which has translated into more music-show appearances. Opinions in the thread split over whether that gap comes down to sheer chance (“going viral”) or the result of steady buildup — some brought up reevaluations of older songs and how resources are allocated across groups, while others simply weighed in on the quality of the song “Hai to Diamond” itself. Hello! Project has numerous groups under its umbrella, and whether buzz on social media actually leads to real TV appearances depends on the agency’s decisions and each group’s activity status, so it’s worth noting that no single comment can determine how things will play out from here.

  • Juice=Juice Lands 3 Magazine Covers This Month Alone — Fans Say They’ve Surpassed the Golden Age

The idol group Juice=Juice landing three magazine covers in a single month has become a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Nikkei Entertainment carries a lot of weight
Every company in the industry, even the small ones, subscribes to it without fail
Commercial work could really come out of this

    Background and Key Points

Landing a magazine cover is often seen as one gauge agencies use to measure a group’s momentum. “Nikkei Entertainment!,” the magazine at the center of this discussion, is widely subscribed to by entertainment and music industry professionals, and a cover feature there is said to often lead to commercial deals and tie-in offers. The comparison to “Love Machine” that came up in the thread refers to Morning Musume’s hit single from 2000, used here as shorthand for the agency’s flagship group drawing major attention for the first time in a while. Landing a terrestrial primetime show of their own, on the other hand, is considered a separate hurdle that popularity alone doesn’t guarantee — within the same Hello! Project stable, M!LK’s own show has only managed to move up from a late-night slot to daytime. There’s still some distance between the clear-cut achievement of a magazine cover and the next goals of commercials and a signature show, and the thread’s reactions reflected both sides of that gap.

  • Hello! Project songwriter Aoi Yamazaki sparks debate — 5ch: ‘She’s surpassed peak Tsunku’

A thread went up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board about songwriter/composer Aoi Yamazaki, whose profile has been rising thanks to her work for Hello! Project. Known for hits like Juice=Juice’s “More! Mi Amore,” the thread saw some posters claim she’s “surpassed Tsunku♂ at his peak,” while others pushed back, arguing she’s overrated and that “AKB48 and Nogizaka46 don’t hype up a single writer like this.” Information about unreleased tracks — including Juice=Juice’s upcoming song “Kareinaru Revenger” and Fukumura Mizuki’s solo track “Moshimo” — was also shared, fueling comparisons with other songwriters.

    5AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:31
Aoi Yamazaki writes for Kawarabo too
    6AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:32
Aoi's songs are pleasant enough on first listen but they get old fast.
"More Mi" has such a great arrangement that it's actually addictive though.
    25AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:48
    Re: #6
"More Mi" wins purely on the strength of its melody,
which is why you can happily sit through YouTuber covers that don't come close to the original vocally.
    8AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:33
Hands down the best is KIX-S's "Loving You."
    11AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:34
He's big enough to have moved from Being to SMA, so it's honestly impressive he still writes for Hello! Project.
    43AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:32
    Re: #11
Looking at her track record, the standouts are "More Mi" and "Hitosore."
Those songs have basically become her calling card.
    14AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:34
Make the great master Aoi the in-house songwriter for ROSY!!
    16AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:35
    She's definitely surpassed peak Tsunku.
    17AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:38
She's strongly associated with Juice=Juice, but she's actually written for them less than you'd think.
The stretch where ANGERME and Tsubaki Factory got preferential treatment was such a waste.
    18AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:40
Looks like Hello! Project's completely cut her loose.
Come back, great master Aoi 😭
    19AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:40
When an Aoi song goes to a group other than Morning Musume, it feels like "this is their big shot!" But with Tsunku, it's more like "oh, they just got fobbed off with a reject track for some pocket change."
    20AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:41
Tsunku's songs are worthless unless he writes them specifically for the member.
But he's off having fun in Hawaii and doesn't even know the members anymore, so they're worthless either way.
    21AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:44
Why is she getting this overrated treatment?
Nothing like this happens with AKB48 or Nogizaka46.
I can't imagine Yoshimasa or Sugiyama getting hyped up like this.
    24AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:47
    Re: #21
I get the overrated point, but those guys get hyped up plenty too.
Inoue has a lot of interesting songs, but Sugiyama's just average.
    22AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:44
There are two unreleased Aoi Yamazaki songs right now:

Juice=Juice "Kareinaru Revenger" (lit. "The Gorgeous Revenger")
    Lyrics: Aoi Yamazaki
Composition: RUSH EYE / Anna Kusakawa
    Arrangement: RUSH EYE

    Fukumura Mizuki "Moshimo" (lit. "If")
    Lyrics & Composition: Aoi Yamazaki
    Arrangement: Akihiko Nakamura
    23AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:45
Looking at it this way, it also seems like Juice=Juice is simply the group that brings out the best in her songs.
    26AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:49
I wonder if Aoi Yamazaki actually interviews the members herself.
    27AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:50
Unlike Tsunku, she seems like she could get poached by someone else.
    28AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:51
Ame Kodama never wrote a hit within Hello! Project, so she ended up drifting off elsewhere. But the song Aoi Yamazaki wrote for Juice=Juice is the biggest hit of her career, so she owes Hello! Project and will stick around.
    29AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:52
"Aishitette" is by far hers, huh.
Yeah, the lyrics definitely have a feminine touch.
    30AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:52
    ANGERME's "Celebrate" is great.
That kind of song might be Yamazaki really hitting her stride at her age.
    31AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:54
My favorite is the song she gave to Kawarabo.
I wish Juice=Juice had gotten something like that back when they were floundering around with the city pop direction.
    33AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:54
Yui Sakurai recently had Tsunku♂ write her a song — I guess even for someone already popular, getting a Tsunku♂ song adds some prestige?
    34AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:55
Sounds like she'll get busy elsewhere like Ame Kodama did, and her Hello! Project work will taper off.
    37AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:59
There isn't a single song of hers that's actually known to the general public though.
    58AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:52
    Re: #37
Same goes for the Tsunku and other songwriters' tracks released around the same time.
Maybe Yamazaki's only ahead because of "More Mi."
    50AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:39
It's impossible to write great songs for every group, so she should narrow her focus.
Morning Musume, BEYOOOOONDS, and ROSY can just stay as they are.
    62AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:59
    Re: #50
I've given up on BEYOOOOONDS ever getting an Aoi or Takui song, and they don't need a Tsunku song either — but in exchange, prioritize giving them Ame Kodama and Hoshibe songs.
Save experiments like Asahi for ROSY.
    54AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:48
The flagship group belongs to Tsunku, after all.
For someone with only modest success like Yamazaki, that's too high a bar.
    56AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:51
    Re: #54
The sheer number of shots he's fired off is on a completely different scale too.
She'd have to keep landing hits for another ten years just to catch up.
    55AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:50
Honestly I like Ame Kodama more than Aoi.
    57AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:52
    Re: #55
Neither of them is even around anymore.
    Give it up.

    Background and points of debate

Tsunku♂ is the founding father of Hello! Project, known since the Morning Musume era for tailoring lyrics to each member’s individual character — but in recent years he’s said to be based mainly overseas, and posters in the thread note that his position within the group has shifted. Aoi Yamazaki, meanwhile, is the songwriter who has raised her profile through hits like Juice=Juice’s “More! Mi Amore,” and the thread saw a split over how to judge her body of work across multiple groups. Some argued that “no other agency hypes up one specific songwriter like this,” while others countered that “she genuinely has a signature hit to her name,” making it a debate that goes beyond simple taste. The thread also buzzed about unreleased songs she’s provided to Juice=Juice and Fukumura Mizuki, drawing attention as information on upcoming releases.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “[Breaking] Tsunku♂’s Successor ‘Aoi Yamazaki’ Has Fully Come Into Her Own wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww [Hello! Project/Juice=Juice/More! Mi Amore].”

  • Juice=Juice’s Lineup Has Stayed Locked In for Years — 5ch: ‘New Members’ Popularity Matters More Than Graduations’

A thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board lit up over the idea that Juice=Juice’s success partly comes down to barely changing its lineup. Since 2022, only two members — Inaba Manaka and Uemura Akari — have graduated from the group, whereas roughly ten members each have cycled through Morning Musume。and ANGERME in the same period, posters noted. But others pushed back, arguing that ‘staying fixed’ isn’t itself the secret — what actually matters is whether new members popular enough to offset the graduates ever join. Opinions were split.

    1AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:57
That's exactly why Morning Musume。and ANGERME will never have their moment.
    2AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:57
    Re: #1
    True.
More like an 'off-shore' company than an 'Up-Front' one. (a pun on the agency's name, Up-Front — implying it isn't as transparent as the name suggests)
    4AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:01
There's been a new member joining almost every year since 2021.
2024 was the only year without one, and that's just because Kawashima and Irie went on hiatus back to back.
Even that year Uemura graduated, so honestly the lineup has changed every year since 2019.
    5AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:02
And on top of that, the group's whole vibe has stayed consistent since it formed.
    7AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:03
Yeah yeah, all thanks to 'suki-amo,' all thanks to 'suki-amo.' (fan slang circulating on the board; exact meaning unclear)
    10AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:06
Compared to Momusu and ANGERME, which had a graduating member on practically every tour, Juice's lineup has been pretty fixed lately — but there's still been some change.
This year is about the only stretch where the lineup stayed put for over a year.
    12AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:07
Since touring went back to solo circuit-style shows after COVID in 2022, the only members who've graduated from Juice=Juice are Inaba Manaka and Uemura Akari.
Meanwhile, here's how many members the other groups have lost in that same span —
no wonder groups other than Juice=Juice can't sell.

Momusu (Morning Musume。): Morito, Kaga, Fukumura, Ishida, Ikuta, Haga, Yokoyama, Kitagawa, Makino, Oda
Angerme: Takeuchi, Sasaki, Kawamura, Jokura, Hashisako
Tsubaki Factory: Asakura, Yamagishi, Kishimoto, Niinuma, Yagi, Akiyama
    Beyooooonds: Ichioka, Yamazaki, Shimakura, Takase
    Ocha Norma: Tashiro, Ishiguri
    15AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:09
    Re: #12
If 'fewer graduations = bigger seller' were really a rule, Ocha Norma should be about to blow up.
    17AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:11
    Re: #12
Isn't it more about how long the graduation backlog was before that point?
    13AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:07
On the flip side, here's what dooms a group from ever breaking out:
[Tough] A fixed lineup that isn't selling and can't be shaken up.
[Tough] A group where new additions are just replacements, not upgrades.
[Impossible] A survival-audition group that can't even replace the members it loses.
    14AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:09
They sold well this year, so they just haven't touched the lineup, that's all lol
    16AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:10
Ishiguri and Tashiro left Ocha Norma, but the members who were the backbone of their performances never did.
    18AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:13
Beyooooonds has run with the same lineup the whole time, but for some songs
they still leave the newer members out — wonder if they'll get them polished up before the Budokan show.
    19AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:13
Aside from the original members and the ones who moved up from Country Girls, nobody's ever left Juice=Juice.
Maybe it's just that they got lucky with patience, but I'd honestly believe it if you told me Up-Front engineered this on purpose.
    20AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:15
    Re: #17
If you replace graduates with new members in a group where people are already lining up to quit, those new members just join the back of the same line.
    21AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:16
If I were running Up-Front, I'd give Reiruru a raise and beg her to stick around for two more years lol (fan nickname, likely blending two members' names)
    22AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:16
ANGERME's problem goes back to the start — two of the original S/mileage members quit almost immediately.
    23AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:18
Always having a graduating member waiting in the wings is just a momentum-killer.
    26AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:22
New members joining is one thing, but graduations happening back to back is another story.
    27AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:24
Once a graduation is announced, all the attention inevitably shifts to that member.
Even new songs end up burning a slot on the outgoing member.
    28AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:25
Ocha Norma is the one with real momentum right now.
They should be pushed harder than Beyooooonds or ANGERME.
    29AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:25
Given how anyone who isn't an original member keeps getting phased out, Inoue's probably next.
    30AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:25
    Somebody's dreaming.
That dream is never coming true.
    Never, ever.
    31AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:25
New members joining aside, graduations are the big thing that kills whatever momentum a group had built.
Unless you're greedy for a generational handoff to keep the group going another 5 or 10 years, it's better not to force anyone out.
    32AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:25
It's not that frequent graduations and additions tank sales —
the real answer is you won't sell unless the new members who join
end up popular enough to make up for whoever graduated.
    33AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:25
The cleanest way for Juice=Juice to end would be locking in the current lineup and disbanding in about five years.
Otherwise future members are going to end up even more trapped by the past than the people nostalgic for the original lineup are now.
    35AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:26
Juice=Juice took off because they found Dambara.
    37AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:26
    This is true.
If you want to build a group up carefully, you can't have a graduation announcement for at least two years or so.
It immediately makes the atmosphere hostile to new fans joining in.
    39AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:28
New members joining is fine — that's addition, not subtraction.
    Someone graduating is subtraction.
What really hurts is when a popular member who's put in eight or nine years
building up experience and skill graduates.
Keep doing that over and over and it gets rough.
    41AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:29
Dambara's presence is huge — she'll casually sing a cappella and make you go 'whoa, she's good!'
    44AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:30
    Re: #41
If Dambara leaves, can Juice=Juice still sell itself as the group with great singers?
    42AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:29
Wasn't it rough for Juice=Juice too when Miyamoto, Takagi, and Kanazawa all left?
Takagi and Kanazawa weren't even originally supposed to leave when they did.
    46AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:30
    Re: #42
Kanazawa stayed with Juice=Juice until she was 26 — that was a planned graduation.
    43AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:29
A new member joining is good news, sure,
but it takes time for them to settle in, so it matters that they join while the group isn't struggling.
    59AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:37
I bet everyone's conveniently forgotten how chaotic things got when they got saddled with two members from Country Girls.
    62AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:39
    Re: #59
Looking back, that was probably laying the groundwork so fans wouldn't riot when they later poached Inoue Reon from Kobushi Factory.
Compare that to how Momusu and ANGERME just folded Country Girls members in for the Hello! Project 20th-anniversary restructuring with no real planning behind it.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Within Hello! Project, every group belongs to the same management company, Up-Front, and as a rule member graduations and additions aren’t disclosed externally until the member announces it themselves. The heart of this debate isn’t really whether an unchanged lineup is itself the reason for popularity, but whether the new members who joined were enough to make up for whoever graduated — a point that a simple ‘staying fixed = success’ argument can’t fully explain. In fact, Juice=Juice hasn’t had the exact same lineup since its formation either; it went through the graduations of popular members like Miyamoto and Inaba and still managed a successful generational handoff, which posters contrasted with ANGERME, said to have struggled under similar circumstances. In other words, the thread leaned toward the view that what matters isn’t whether graduations happen, but how well the group replaces the members it loses. Note that unconfirmed information about a graduation announcement at that day’s live show was also posted, but since it couldn’t be verified, it isn’t covered in this article.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Isn’t it also because Juice=Juice hasn’t randomly changed its lineup that it sold? Frequent graduations and additions kill sales.”

  • Juice=Juice Sparks Debate on 5ch After Magazine Cover Appearance: ‘Are They Actually Selling?’

A thread titled “Is Juice=Juice actually selling well?” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. The trigger was Juice=Juice landing on the same magazine cover as HYDE and Anya. Some in the thread marveled, “It’s amazing they made it into this lineup,” while others debated the gap in treatment compared to Morning Musume and the group’s overall standing. As for real sales momentum, some pointed to the recent launch of solo and duo merchandise for members as a sign — but opinions remained split.

    1AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:05
Isn't it kind of amazing they're on a magazine cover in this lineup?

Morning Musume gets treated as the lesser group.
    40AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:17

    50AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:18
Bundled-Deal Musume lolololol (playing on "Morning Musume" as a tie-in add-on)
    57AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:20
Since they started selling solo and duo merch for members, I figured they must actually be selling well now.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Within Hello! Project, Morning Musume — the flagship group since the earliest days — is often regarded as the de facto standard-bearer, and the exposure and treatment given to later groups tends to get measured against it. This time, the buzz stemmed from Juice=Juice joining a magazine cover lineup alongside well-known celebrities; some in the thread marveled at how impressive it was to be included in such company, while others took a more cautious view, noting that a magazine appearance alone doesn’t prove actual sales. One piece of evidence cited was the launch of solo and duo merchandise for individual members — in the idol industry, whether or not this kind of individual-level rollout happens is often treated as a barometer of popularity. That said, opinions in the thread were far from unanimous, and it’s worth noting how sharply views diverged on how to interpret this rise in exposure.
