  • Takehisa Maeyama: ‘I Get Slandered Just for Breathing’ — 5ch: ‘If They Don’t Know Your Face, No One Notices’

Actor Takehisa Maeyama (35) opened up about his current life in an interview with FRIDAY magazine. After his girlfriend Sayaka Kanda passed away in 2021, tabloid reports about their relationship sparked a wave of criticism, leading Maeyama to leave the entertainment industry in 2022. He now says he gets by working part-time jobs at places like supermarkets, describing his state of mind as “I get slandered just for breathing.” The 5ch thread reacting to the article was split: some commenters remained harshly critical, while others questioned the reporting itself, arguing “He’s a private citizen now, stop covering him” and “As long as no one recognizes his face, he won’t be noticed.”

“I don’t think the slander against me will ever stop unless I die.”

Takehisa Maeyama (35), once active on stage and in musical theater, said he’d “gotten used to it… or rather, given up on it” — being photographed and dragged online for simply walking down the street, realizing that “no matter where I am or what I’m doing, even just breathing gets me criticized.” That’s when he added the line above.

After his then-girlfriend Sayaka Kanda died in December 2021, tabloid reports about their relationship triggered a barrage of harsh criticism and slander directed at Maeyama. He subsequently left his talent agency in 2022, and as is widely known, retired from the entertainment industry.

He writes 'I get slandered like breathing,' but that's because you trash media outlets keep churning out stories for laughs.

    Truly a loss

Background and key points of this discussion

Maeyama and Kanda’s relationship came to public attention through tabloid reports after Kanda’s death, when content purported to be from their exchanges was published, fueling widespread criticism. Since then, Maeyama has left the entertainment industry and rarely spoken publicly about the matter. This interview is one of the few times he has, and reactions on 5ch ranged widely — from those who felt he “still hasn’t paid enough” and wanted further criticism, to those questioning the reporting itself with comments like “he’s a private citizen now, coverage should stop altogether.” Worth noting as a matter of fact: only the transcribed text of the exchanges was ever reported — the audio itself was never released. Some posts nonetheless drew firm conclusions about his character based solely on secondhand claims.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geinosuposoku+) thread “[Entertainment] “I’m working part-time at a supermarket”… Sayaka Kanda’s ex-boyfriend Takehisa Maeyama reaches the realization that “I get slandered just for breathing” [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • Juice=Juice Fans Anxious About Kohaku Chances: ‘We’re Jealous of Morning Musume. and ANGERME’

In recent years, Juice=Juice’s name has come up repeatedly in year-end predictions for NHK’s ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’ (Red and White Song Battle). But making the prediction lists and actually getting picked are two different things, and on 5ch’s Hello!Project board, fans opened up about envying Morning Musume. and ANGERME — groups that have rarely had a Kohaku connection. Citing the case of One for All, once rumored as a lock for Kohaku only to be passed over, the agency’s cautious strategy of skipping a single release this year, and sluggish EP sales, the thread reveals a mix of hope and anxiety.

    1AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:18
They keep showing up in the Kohaku predictions lately.
Being on the list doesn't mean much though — it's still an uphill battle, honestly…

    40AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:39
    Re: #35
Up Front's got that old-school Showa-era mentality, so Kohaku is a big deal to them.
A lot of the fanbase is older too, so they treat Kohaku as something special.
That's why there's a mountain of 'will they make Kohaku' threads popping up every summer.
    39AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:38
Honestly, if Morning Musume. had gotten a song on the level of 'Moré-mi,' they'd have been pushed way harder and probably made Kohaku. Though since the skill wouldn't have matched, they'd probably get hated to death for it.

You can tell from the numbers that neither the songs nor the group are really well-known.
They get TV spots, sure, but you can buy your way onto TV.

    49AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:45

Still, there's some responsibility for getting fans' hopes up.
After being on TV this much, if they don't make Kohaku,
the fans are gonna lose it
and it'll expose that Juice's 'popularity' was fake.
    46AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:43
Was it 40,000 or 50,000 copies?
    Sure, it's an EP, but

    48AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:44
    Re: #46
That's exactly why they should've put out a single and posted a decent number.

    about on par with Rosy.
    51AnonymousSep 3, 2026 09:47
Even without winning concert tickets, I feel like putting out a single and doing individual meet-and-greets ("kobetsu") would keep fans decently satisfied though?

    Re: #51
    They can't put out a single —
it'd expose them as the lowest-selling, least popular group in Hello!Project.
Though apparently tour sales are already looking shaky, so the secret's kind of out already.
    73AnonymousSep 3, 2026 10:17

Are they out of their minds?

    Re: #73
    This right here.
'Moré-mi' wasn't nominated, but this year's song 'Vanilla' is actually nominated for Kohaku selection.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Juice=Juice is a Hello!Project group formed in 2020. In recent years their TV appearances have increased and they’ve become regulars on Kohaku prediction lists, but CD sales have stagnated, and the gap between actual sales figures and TV exposure became a key point of debate in the thread. Hello!Project reportedly has a practice known as the “convoy system,” which keeps a balance among groups rather than letting any one of them stand out, and the thread raised the view that this makes a solo Kohaku appearance a tall order. The precedent of One for All, once seen as a Kohaku lock that never materialized, is cited as evidence that TV exposure and Kohaku selection don’t necessarily go hand in hand. Note that the discussion of the agency’s promotional strategy and comparisons with past groups is largely personal speculation, not confirmed information.

  • Fukushima University Insult Row: Takeda Juku Founder Defends Comments as “Maliciously Edited”

A video featuring Fumitaku Takada — known online as “Fu-min” — who appears on the YouTube channel “wakatte.TV,” went viral after he and others made insulting remarks about Fukushima University, and the video was taken down on September 1. Takada posted an explanation on X, but the phrase “not in the way I intended” only poured fuel on the fire, and the backlash hasn’t let up. It has since come out that Naohiro Hayashi — founder of the cram school chain Takeda Juku and second-generation host of the YouTube show “Reiwa no Tora” — defended the video as having been “maliciously edited out of context.” The thread pushes back hard against that defense and notes that the mayors of both Fukushima City and Iwaki City issued their own statements.

The uproar over the Fukushima University insult from wakatte.TV — featuring Takeda Juku staff Fumitaku Takada and Takeshi Yamabi — shows no sign of calming down (in the video they go by the nicknames “Fu-min” and “Bii-yama”).

After the remarks insulting Fukushima University sparked controversy, the video was deleted on the 1st, and Takada posted an explanation on the X account “Takada Fu-min.” Some media outlets called it an “apology.” But the line “not in the way I intended” set off another round of backlash, with people asking, “Well then, what WAS your intention?”

The one who came to Takada’s defense is Naohiro Hayashi, founder of Takeda Juku and second-generation host of the YouTube channel “Reiwa no Tora.”

No apology video or comment from Fu-min?

Background and Key Points of This Story

wakatte.TV, the channel featuring Takada and others, has close ties to Takeda Juku, the university entrance-exam cram school, and Naohiro Hayashi — who stepped in to defend them — is not only Takeda Juku’s founder but also known as the second-generation host of the investment show “Reiwa no Tora.” In the thread, many remain skeptical of the “taken out of context” defense, pointing out that the video had excuse-like captions running from the very start, which suggests to some that it may have been deliberate. Beyond the Fukushima University president, the mayors of both Fukushima City and Iwaki City have issued statements of protest, turning this from a simple online firestorm into a situation where local government officials are now responding publicly. Separately from the core issue — the insult to the university — the thread has also branched into a debate over whether TEPCO or Fukushima Prefecture bears more responsibility for the nuclear accident following the Great East Japan Earthquake, a tangent worth flagging since it has pulled the discussion away from the original topic.

Japan’s Children and Families Agency conducted its first large-scale survey of young people, finding that roughly one in three unmarried respondents said they “have no intention of getting married.” Reacting to the results on TBS’s “Hiruobi,” freelance announcer Satoko Ito called the finding “shocking,” adding, “Japan’s population can only keep shrinking.” On 5ch, commenters split between blaming a lack of financial breathing room — citing rent and stagnant real wages — and pointing to a shift in values where marriage itself is no longer seen as worthwhile, with the thread divided over which factor is the true root cause.

As young people show declining interest in marriage, Satoko Ito says: “Shocking. Japan’s population can only keep shrinking”

Freelance announcer Satoko Ito appeared on TBS’s “Hiruobi” (weekdays at 10:25 a.m.) on the 2nd.

She commented that it was “shocking” that, according to the Children and Families Agency’s first large-scale survey of young people, roughly one in three unmarried young people said they “have no intention of getting married.”

There was a show explaining that, in a 100-year lifespan, being forced to spend the rest of your life with someone you just happened to fall for during a mere 2-3 years in your 20s goes against the natural order — it's simply unreasonable.

The conclusion was: 'It only works if you pile patience on patience, endurance on endurance, give up your freedom, and throw away a lot of richness in life — money, time, and peace of mind.'

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The Children and Families Agency’s survey marks the government’s first attempt to grasp young people’s views on marriage on a large scale, and is positioned as baseline data for future measures to address the declining birthrate. In the thread, both economic factors — “rent is too high,” “real wages have fallen since 40 years ago” — and shifting values — “there’s no benefit to marriage,” “I don’t want to lose my freedom” — were cited as causes, though it’s easy to overlook that these two explanations aren’t mutually exclusive and can coexist. Comments citing divorce statistics or personal experience were also prominent, but these reflect individual impressions rather than the survey data itself, and should be read separately from the actual findings.

  • Kohaku Lineup Predictions: The Name ‘Juice=Juice’ Keeps Popping Up Everywhere on Social Media

As predictions for NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen (the Red and White Song Battle) heat up on X (formerly Twitter) and elsewhere, a 5ch thread turned its attention to how “every prediction out there seems to include Juice=Juice.” With =LOVE, CUTIE STREET, and Nogizaka46 treated as near-certain picks, the question became whether Juice=Juice would claim one of the remaining slots. Re: #51
The general public's take on ANGERME is basically 'Who? Never heard of them'

    Background and Key Points

NHK doesn’t officially announce the Kohaku lineup until December each year, so predictions circulating on social media in September are nothing more than fan speculation. The thread zeroed in on two things: Juice=Juice’s signature song ‘Moré! Mi Amore’ has picked up name recognition beyond idol fandom, even getting name-checked by a baseball commentator and a politician, and the fact that Hello! Project has several groups competing for attention at once. With Morning Musume。marking its 30th anniversary next year, some see the agency as wanting to prioritize its flagship group’s appearance, while Juice=Juice has racked up hit songs of its own in recent years — leaving fans divided over which group to back. The debate was further fueled by the fact that groups from other agencies, like =LOVE and CUTIE STREET, are already seen as near-certain to appear. Note that the actual selection criteria and number of slots are never made public, so there’s no guarantee any of these social media predictions will pan out.

  • Car YouTuber Banned From Nissan Dealership Over AC Repair — Exposé Video Splits Opinion

Car YouTuber “Amaneko” revealed in a video that a Nissan dealership refused to accept her Nissan GT-R (bought used for about 25.45 million yen) for an AC repair in the summer of 2026. The AC trouble had persisted since she bought the car in 2023 — she’d once gotten a free unit replacement and a written apology from the dealer — but this time she was banned from the shop because, in her account, “past incidents hadn’t reflected well on them.” Since she owns seven cars in total, including a Lexus and a Ferrari, reactions on 5ch split between “the dealer has its reasons” / “sounds like a monster complainer” on one side, and “Nissan’s response here is awful” in her defense on the other.

Beautiful YouTuber with 7 luxury cars stirs controversy with four straight “venting” videos over “Nissan refused service” saga — insisting she’s “just one user” backfires with viewers

Amaneko, the car YouTuber who revealed trouble with a dealership over repairs to her beloved Nissan GT-R, posted a new members-only “complaint video” on August 31, and it’s causing a stir.

Amaneko has built a following as a car YouTuber who owns seven luxury vehicles in total, including a Lexus, a Honda NSX, and a Ferrari.

It's a private transaction between two parties, so the dealer does have the right to refuse service.

Also, these days if you let customer harassment slide, staff turnover goes up, and the losses end up outweighing the profit.

Both sides have a point here, but more and more companies are labeling people as harassers or chronic complainers and refusing store visits, phone calls, any response at all.

That's fine when it's a private transaction, but for places that can't refuse service — government offices, civil servants, schools, hospitals, railways — the public sector is struggling too, with more people going on mental health leave or quitting, which makes running those organizations hard as well.

Bought a used GT-R (Premium Edition T-spec) for about 25.45 million yen in fall 2023.
    AC trouble started in 2024.
In summer 2025, drove long-distance with the AC not working.
Brought it to Nissan Tokyo Sales for its first inspection that August; the unit was replaced under manufacturer warranty. After getting permission to film and posting the video, she got a DM from an employee's personal Instagram demanding she delete it — and it also came out that her ownership info had been leaked to other customers.
Because the dealer's customer relations desk handled it poorly, she called them out in a video that September (topping 1 million views).
In October, a written apology arrived under the store manager's name, but she complained it read like it was written by a "grade-schooler."
The AC issue came back in summer 2026; when she asked for a paid repair, she was refused service (banned) on the grounds that "past incidents hadn't reflected well on them," and is currently getting stopgap fixes done at a specialty shop.
    102AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:27
    Re: #91
The dealer already admitted fault over the compliance violation and gave her a written apology — and now they're getting all defensive about it?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Refusing a store visit or repair intake is a private transaction, so under the principle of freedom of contract, businesses have the right to decline service too. In recent years, as a countermeasure against customer harassment, more companies have been refusing to deal with customers who caused trouble in the past — and post #107 in the thread touches on exactly this dynamic. Within the thread, opinions criticizing “the dealer’s poor explanation and handling” were roughly balanced against those suspecting “the YouTuber’s exposé video itself was meant to stir up controversy,” with no clear consensus reached. It’s also worth noting that details recounted in the video — such as “a Nissan employee demanded it be deleted” and “there was an information leak” — are based solely on her own account, and the article does not present the dealership’s side of the story in any detail.

On the 2nd, talent Ruriko Kojima opened an Instagram post with, “So, do you actually prefer black hair?”, revealing a makeover from her previous blonde to brown hair. On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports News+ thread, opinions split between “black hair forever” and “Team Blonde,” while other posts dug up nostalgic photos from her Sofmap days (the electronics retail chain where she worked as a promo model early in her career), argued that blonde never suited her, and brought up her departure from her major talent agency and past dating-scandal coverage. What started as a simple makeover announcement turned into a thread reminiscing about her entire career.

But Chihaya from Chihayafuru (a manga/anime about competitive karuta) has bleached-blonde hair, and she's a serious honor student. If even she went blonde, that shows blonde has become totally normalized in Japan. Black hair barely even shows up in Chihayafuru — it's basically a Stone Age custom at this point.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Ruriko Kojima went independent from major talent agency Horipro following a relationship and career hiatus that were made public around 2018, and the “affair” and “agency departure” repeatedly referenced in the thread stem from that past reporting — though the detailed facts of what actually happened at the time are not part of this article’s source material. The thread mainly split along two lines: a simple matter of taste over whether blonde or black/brown hair suits her better, and the rights and wrongs of her image surrounding that past relationship and agency departure. On the latter point, readers should note that much of the commentary is speculation rather than confirmed fact. Some posts also dragged in unrelated private matters involving other celebrities, such as references to “former SPEED member Uehara,” but these were excluded from the article as poorly substantiated assumptions. Readers are advised to separate the main topic — her hairstyle change — from the speculation-laden commentary rooted in past media coverage.

  • Comedian Hitori Gekidan Slams Delivery’s “4-Hour Morning-Only” Window — 5ch Claps Back: “Do You Know How Hard Drivers Have It?”

Comedian Hitori Gekidan sparked discussion after questioning why home delivery time slots are split into 2-hour windows after noon, yet mornings only offer a single 4-hour window from 8am to noon. The topic split opinion on 5ch over delivery drivers’ actual working conditions and how the time-slot system works. While some argued time slots should become a paid option, or that Hitori — presumably well-off — has no room to complain, a poster claiming to work for a major delivery company explained that drivers can only make one loop through their assigned area in the morning, making finer time slots impossible then. The thread ended up as more than just pile-on grumbling.

    Sep 2 (Wed), 4:30 PM

Comedian Hitori Gekidan is making waves after venting frustration over home delivery “time slot” options.

“He took issue with the fact that after noon the windows are split into 2-hour increments, but for some reason the morning slot spans a full 4 hours, from 8am to noon,” said one entertainment reporter.

If they come once and you're not home, sometimes they'll swing by again if they're back in the area. And even with a time slot booked, if they're passing through the neighborhood on another delivery and happen to be able to park, they might just drop it off early.

I work for a major delivery company, and there are several reasons the morning slot is a 4-hour window.

The main reason is that delivery drivers have a fixed assigned area, and within that area they only pass each address once during the morning. If there were two morning packages for the same address — say one for 8-10am and another for 10am-noon — delivering them would require looping through the area twice, which is extremely inefficient. As for why the afternoon can be split into narrower windows: delivering a lot of packages in the morning frees up enough time to make multiple loops in the afternoon.

If you want to know roughly when your morning-slot package will arrive, just remember what time your morning packages have shown up in the past — since the route order never changes, it'll usually arrive around the same time.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Home delivery time slots are split into 2-hour increments in the afternoon at most companies, but mornings get just a single 4-hour window. According to a poster in the thread claiming to work for a major delivery company, that’s because drivers follow a fixed route through their assigned area and can only make one loop through it in the morning — if the same address had multiple morning slots, the driver would need two loops, which would be inefficient. The thread split over where to put the weight: on consumers’ demand for tighter time slots, or on the burden that would place on delivery workers in the field. A proposal to charge for time-slot requests came up, but so did concerns that it would just increase missed-delivery redos, or that paying customers would complain more over even minor delays. The reaction cited in the reporting — “On X, people are saying ‘Do you have any idea how hard this is?’” — reflects sympathy for delivery workers more than agreement with Hitori’s comment itself. But on 5ch, the discussion tangled together criticism of customers who vent without understanding how the system works, and anxiety about the labor shortage in the delivery industry — a nuance the original news article doesn’t fully capture.

    Re: #91
    That's a great explanation lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

A vasectomy (vas deferens ligation) is a procedure in which the vas deferens is tied off or cut so that sperm no longer mixes into the semen; since the testicles themselves are left intact, it generally has no effect on male hormones, sex drive, or erectile function. The thread included posts explaining that this differs mechanically from castration (testicle removal), clearing up some misunderstandings. Actor Matsukata Hiroki once publicly revealed he’d had the same procedure, and his name came up again here. Because the surgery only ties off the vas deferens, a reversal procedure exists in theory, but its success rate isn’t high, so it’s often treated as ‘essentially irreversible.’ Reactions in the thread split between people asking about the mechanics as a matter of health information, and prying, tabloid-style speculation about his personal life — namely, that he already has three children at age 27. Some of the latter bordered on baseless digs at him and his family, and those portions have been left out of this summary. Choosing a vasectomy for contraceptive reasons is fairly common in itself, and a certain number of men opt for it as part of family planning.

That same day, Yamaguchi had announced via his own social media, “My chronic cluster headaches have started up again. Watching Birkin-kun on YouTube is way more fun than watching Peace-kun from Omiya Park (both are apparently nicknamed park animals/mascots).

Same for Yuki Goto, and it was the same for me too. But it stopped happening once I hit around 40. Turns out it really does fade with age.

Paaaain, wooounds… (´・ω・`) (drawn out in a sing-song, mocking tone)

Whoa, seriously? I'm done being a Chunidora fan then. ("Chunidora" — fan nickname/abbreviation, exact reference unclear)

I feel like people really don't get how brutal these symptoms are. There are people out there saying stuff like "if it comes back next time, I'm ending it."
    9AnonymousSep 2, 2026 20:54
Is this also one of the symptoms of depression?
    11AnonymousSep 2, 2026 20:55
Isn't he just pushing himself too hard again lately and burning out? Bipolar or something, not sure.

Could well be one of the causes, I'd think.

I looked it up, and apparently this can be a risk factor for developing depression.
I wonder if that's what's going on with Ichiro? Sounds like it's excruciating — hope he can push through it.

Apparently Nagura's depression came from a physical injury too (herniated disc surgery). (likely referring to comedian Jun Nagura)

You should never let someone with cluster headaches near a gun. Apparently the pain gets so bad some end up shooting themselves in the head.
    15AnonymousSep 2, 2026 20:58
I rarely get headaches, so on the rare occasion I do, it's incredibly painful. Take care of yourself.

I had an ocular migraine (scintillating scotoma — flickering blind spots in your vision) a few months back and it was rough — but Yamaguchi's must be way worse.

A long time ago I had this dull headache with nonstop yawning, and I thought, "yeah, my autonomic nervous system is shot," and then my vision got blurry and I started seeing flashing lights. Hasn't happened since.
    21AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:03
Man, that sounds rough. I don't really know what to say, but I hope the pain eases up for him.
    22AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:04
I wonder if, tracing it back, it could actually stem from hearing loss.
    23AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:04
If it's coming from the nervous system, medication probably won't touch it.

The only option is to numb it out.

Loxonin barely works on most kinds of pain. (a common Japanese OTC painkiller)
    25AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:07
Loxonin doesn't even work on it?
    That's rough.

I just watched a short clip yesterday of Dr. Ii, the doctor-turned-comedian. Apparently he had an ambulance called on him over a migraine, and ended up getting better with a once-a-month injection that costs 10,000 yen. Take care of yourself.

    That's not 'easy' at all…
    31AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:12
Loxonin's just a painkiller, not an actual headache medication, and it's not great for your organs either. I had bad migraines for a long time, so I was on prescription migraine medication the whole time.

    > He's currently seeing a headache specialty clinic and getting medication prescribed. Yamaguchi said, "Until you find the medicine that works for you, it's like a journey through hell."

    Does the medicine even work?

It felt like my eyeball was being clawed at. The last time I had it was around age 40 or so. Haven't had a single symptom in over 10 years now. Hooray for aging.

Wasn't it already established that the cause of this is oxygen deficiency?
    43AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:28
    Re: #35
So you just breathe oxygen and it's fine?

Nerve pain is just brutal no matter what.
    37AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:19
I got postherpetic neuralgia and painkillers barely worked on it. Apparently you still have to take them anyway. They say if you just tough out the pain it gradually gets worse — makes you wonder which is really the lesser evil, that or the side effects.

I get headaches and always figured it was migraines — pain behind one eye. Is this actually a cluster headache?

Have you tried an over-the-counter rhinitis spray with lidocaine in it?
I also get that intense behind-the-eye migraine type, and headache meds do nothing for me, but the rhinitis spray works like a charm.

Isn't "drooling nonstop" kind of an exaggeration?
Does it really get that bad?

Cluster headache pain is often described as "like having your eye gouged out with a red-hot iron rod or a drill."

Many people can't bear that pain and end up taking their own lives.
    65AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:08
I've heard of a drug called Imigran.
There are videos out there of people hooked up to an oxygen tank, banging or pounding on their own head just trying to get through it.

    Imigran is a migraine medication.
    68AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:14

An Imigran injection or nasal spray works. If that's still not enough, inhale medical-grade pure oxygen for 15+ minutes.

    Re: #67
Self-injection is actually an approved treatment for cluster headaches.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Cluster headaches are a type of headache marked by intense, one-sided pain running from behind the eye to the temple. Once triggered, attacks tend to strike at the same time of day for several days running, forming what’s called a “cluster period” that can last from several weeks to several months, alternating with symptom-free stretches. It’s more common among middle-aged and older men, and its prevalence is considerably lower than migraine’s — but the pain is so severe that overseas it’s sometimes called the “suicide headache.” Treatment relies less on over-the-counter painkillers and more on standard attack-time measures like injections or nasal sprays of triptan-class drugs (such as Imigran) or inhaling high-concentration oxygen, which is likely why so many commenters on the thread noted that Loxonin doesn’t work. While people who’ve experienced the same symptoms traded notes on the intensity of the pain and how to cope with it, some comments expressed skepticism about just how severe the condition really is, highlighting a gap in understanding.
