  • Nao Matsushita to Lead New Drama Reprising Her ‘Doctor-X’ Nurse Role, as TV Asahi’s Medical Drama Trilogy Crosses Over

Actress Nao Matsushita (41) will star in TV Asahi’s new drama series “Analog Nurse: What Even Is Digital?!” premiering October 22, reprising the role of nurse Akari Nasuda, whom she played as a guest star in 2021’s “Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon.” The series serves as the capstone to TV Asahi’s medical drama trilogy — following “Doctor-X” and “The Travel Nurse,” both written by Miho Nakazono — and adopts a “shared universe” format in which the three shows’ worlds intersect. On 5channel, commenters poked fun at using an English buzzword for what amounts to a simple crossover, while others speculated about the chances of a “Doctor-X” sequel.

Nao Matsushita to Star in New Series Reprising Her “Doctor-X” Nurse Role — On the “Shared Universe” Crossover: “There’s a Certain Fear in Being Tied Together”

It was revealed on the 3rd that actress Nao Matsushita (41) will star in TV Asahi’s new drama series “Analog Nurse: What Even Is Digital?!” (Thursdays, 9 p.m.), premiering October 22, once again playing the freelance nurse she guest-starred as in the network’s 2021 series “Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon.”

The show is the culmination of TV Asahi’s medical drama trilogy, following “Doctor-X” and “The Travel Nurse,” both scripted by Miho Nakazono. Reacting to the offer to reprise the role of Akari Nasuda, which she played five years ago, Matsushita said, “I was surprised — at the time I thought it was just a one-episode appearance…” She added happily, “I’d been hoping to meet [that character] again, so I’m really glad it worked out this way.”

'Ten years is like a dream
A hundred years, a dream within a dream
A thousand years, a fleeting arrow of light'

Background and Key Points of Discussion

A “shared universe” is a storytelling format in which separate works’ settings and characters intersect — a term familiar from film franchises like Marvel’s MCU. This project spans three TV Asahi medical dramas — “Doctor-X,” “The Travel Nurse,” and “Analog Nurse” — with Nao Matsushita reprising, after five years, the role of nurse Akari Nasuda, whom she played as a guest in 2021’s “Doctor-X.” The thread’s discussion centered on two main points: a skeptical view that this is really just a crossover dressed up with an English buzzword, and hopes for a “Doctor-X” sequel tied to the availability of Ryoko Yonekura, who plays Michiko Daimon. It’s worth noting that “Doctor-X” already wrapped up with its theatrical film, and while some pointed to the death of Toshiyuki Nishida as a factor affecting any sequel, these are all speculation from the thread, not official announcements.

  • Madoka Magica New Film’s Box Office Craters to Under 5% of Opening Week in Week Two

Box office figures showing that the new “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” film’s revenue plunged to under 5% of its opening-week total in week two have become a hot topic on 5ch. Commenters confirmed the eye-popping figure (“that’s a 96% drop!”), but opinions split on the cause. Some argued that the distributor’s ban on spoilers until September 12 backfired, letting only negative buzz spread on social media, while others suggested opening-week numbers were inflated by an audience giveaway (an illustrated “shikishi” board). Views on the film itself were also divided, with some criticizing the lack of plot progression and others praising the story’s developments.

    104AnonymousSep 4, 2026 11:14
    Re: #98
Lol, that's a brutally bad review.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The phrase “under 5% versus the previous week” doesn’t mean revenue dropped by 5% — it means revenue fell to under 5% of the previous week’s total, which works out to roughly a 96% decline. In the thread, comments 8 and 21 go back and forth with “surely that’s a typo for a 5% drop?” and “it’s a 96% drop,” showing how easy the figure was to misread at first glance. Behind this is the distributor’s policy of banning spoilers until September 12. As comments 51 and 59 point out, fans who enjoyed the film dutifully honored the spoiler ban and stayed quiet, while dissatisfied viewers ignored the restriction and spread harsh reviews freely — which may have skewed the film’s online reputation more negative than reality. Also, as comments 44 and 46 note, an audience giveaway (a shikishi board) was handed out during opening week, meaning turnout boosted by the freebie may have inflated the first week’s numbers. At the same time, some in the thread argued (comments 9 and 69) that “otaku-oriented late-night anime films were always going to be a niche, fan-driven scale to begin with,” suggesting it would be premature to blame the drop solely on the film’s quality.

The eighth sub-MC will reportedly be revealed at a later date. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board, discussion centered less on her departure itself and more on 81-year-old Tamori’s advancing age, the show’s sagging ratings, and the full lineup of past MCs and sub-MCs, with plenty of users speculating about who might replace her.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“Music Station” has had Tamori as its sole host since the show began airing in 1986, and this year marks its 40th anniversary. In the thread, names like Hiroshi Sekiguchi and Mari Yoshimura came up in connection with the “original” host, but that’s actually confusion with a different show airing around the same era, “Yoru no Hit Studio” — worth clarifying that Tamori has, in fact, been Music Station’s only host. Sub-MC duties have typically gone to rookie announcers, and outside of exceptions like Yue Takeuchi and Ayaka Hironaka who each stayed five years, the role has generally turned over roughly every four years. Where the thread’s opinions diverged was over how seriously to take 81-year-old Tamori’s advancing age — some saw it as a genuine concern for the show’s future, others treated it as just a running joke. • Harai-chi’s Iwai Asks Smokers: “Does a Cigarette Taste Better Inhaled or Exhaled?”

Iwai Yuki (40), one half of the comedy duo Harai-chi, posed a question to smokers on X (formerly Twitter) on the night of September 3: “For people who smoke, does it taste better when you inhale, or when you exhale?” The simple question sparked a lively split on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board between an “inhaling” camp and an “exhaling” camp, while many other posters pointed out that the sense of cigarettes “tasting good” is really just an illusion created by the relief of nicotine withdrawal — turning the thread into a debate ranging from taste theory to the mechanics of addiction.

Never smoked a day in my life, but I get the impression inhaling tastes better
    5AnonymousSep 4, 2026 09:50
Inhaling tastes better, exhaling is when you relax. Haven't smoked in decades, but I've stopped consciously taking deep exhales, and that alone makes me want a cigarette

Isn't it like that feeling when you take a big breath of air at a mountain summit and it tastes amazing? I don't smoke so I wouldn't know
    9AnonymousSep 4, 2026 09:51
It's exhaling. When you blow smoke toward someone and they make that disgusted face — that's what does it for me

It used to be great how smokers got side-eyed at pachinko parlors, but now there are way too many non-smoking halls. Whenever I landed a good machine I'd deliberately blow smoke at anyone who sat down next to me

20 years of smoking, a pack a day on average — let me set you straight: there's not much of a "tastes good" feeling to it. It's more like struggling to breathe and finally sucking in oxygen. That's the answer, got it, baldy?

    155AnonymousSep 4, 2026 10:21
Re: #138 Plenty of people are exhale people though, right? Think about it for two seconds

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Iwai’s simple question struck a nerve as it touches on a basic sensation that splits opinion even among smokers themselves. The thread divided between those who feel the “deliciousness” on the inhale and those who feel relief on the exhale, while several posts argued that the “deliciousness” of smoking is, to begin with, just the brain mistaking the satisfaction of resolved nicotine withdrawal for pleasure. That explanation echoes what addiction research calls the opponent-process theory — suggesting the sensation may be less about pleasure itself and more about withdrawal relief being reinterpreted as pleasure. On the other hand, some pushed back that “the taste differs by brand,” keeping alive the view that a genuine flavor element can’t be entirely ruled out. The fact that people’s explanations of the sensation diverge depending on whether they’ve actually smoked is a classic example of why this kind of topic tends to spark debate.

    Background and talking points

Aiko Kaito rose to popularity on Fuji TV’s information programs starting in the late 2000s before later going freelance as an announcer/talent. This post was a single photo on her own Instagram, captioned as taken “after a certain photo shoot,” and the original article’s headline used the slang term “zettai ryouiki” (“absolute territory” — the exposed-thigh zone between a skirt hem and thigh-high socks or boots). Opinions split in the thread over whether that headline actually matched what the photo showed, with some commenters who checked the post calling it a clickbait headline. Many comments also latched onto her age (42) and single status, mixing well-wishes for her to find marriage with remarks fixating on her age. It’s worth noting, though, that nothing in the thread offers any actual information about her dating or marriage plans — these are purely the posters’ own speculation and impressions.

    Background and Talking Points

How much responsibility for poor results in pro baseball falls on the manager is a debate that resurfaces every year, partly because it’s hard to objectively verify whether in-game decisions were right or wrong. In the thread, the view that “results on the field are the players’ responsibility” sits alongside the view that “the manager should own the outcomes of decisions like personnel use and pitching changes,” making clear this isn’t a case where one side is simply right. Because baseball, unlike soccer, doesn’t tie wins and losses as directly to how a system meshes with player ability, it’s hard to measure exactly how much a manager’s decisions affect results — which is likely why drawing motivation out of players tends to become the de facto yardstick for judging a manager. One point readers can easily get wrong is lumping the intensity of social-media criticism together as “a phenomenon unique to today”: the thread itself shows a range of views, with some commenters saying “criticism online is brutal” and others saying “criticism these days is actually more civil,” suggesting there’s no single consistent take.

    Background and Talking Points

“Dōsetsu” refers to the number of concurrent viewers during a livestream — a metric routinely compared and ranked both within and across VTuber talent agencies. However, these figures are usually just snapshots tied to a specific broadcast (a collab, a gaming tournament, an anniversary stream, etc.), not a constant measure of overall popularity. It’s worth noting that the thread title’s word “defeated” is exaggerated clickbait built around a single one-off comparison. As one comment in the thread put it — “the only names I recognize are Pekora and Sakura Miko” — the discussion highlighted that even VTubers who top the concurrent-viewer charts don’t necessarily have equal name recognition with the wider public. Sharper comments also noted that “having the numbers doesn’t mean the stream is actually good,” reflecting a recurring debate in gauging VTuber popularity: concurrent-viewer counts and actual stream quality don’t always line up.

Yonsentoshin’s Takumi Goto revealed he’s in dire financial straits while discussing the group’s future with his partner, Ryota Ishibashi, in a segment on their official YouTube channel. According to a Yahoo News report on the 3rd, Goto said he had quit a gym he used to attend because he could no longer afford the membership. On 5ch, many took the explanation — that TV appearances, live bookings, and YouTube revenue were all scarce — at face value and used it as a springboard to preach the importance of asset management, while others were skeptical he could really be that hard up given how much he used to earn, splitting opinion on how to read the confession.

    Re: #66
But that's literally where Hitoshi Matsumoto started out.
Matsumoto mumbled too, but he kept landing genius one-liners over and over.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Comedians’ income is structured so that booking fees are split with the agency, with travel costs and taxes deducted from there — meaning that when TV exposure drops, booking income tends to collapse right along with it. It’s worth noting that the year-by-year earnings figures cited in the thread (from ¥44 million in 2019 down to ¥5 million in 2025) come from posters’ speculation and hearsay, not any official statement from Goto himself, and shouldn’t be taken as confirmed fact. The debate split over whether he’s genuinely struggling: some took the claim that TV work, bookings, and YouTube revenue were all scarce at face value, while others were vocal in suspecting it might be for show, given how much he presumably earned before. The discussion also touched on how Yonsentoshin won over a young fanbase early in the ‘7th Generation’ comedian boom, only for that popularity to prove short-lived — cited as part of the backdrop to his current money troubles.

  • Tokyo Curry Expo drops Komeo’s restaurant “Kaniwo” after food poisoning at Azabu-Juban Summer Festival

Tokyo’s “Curry Expo,” opening September 11 at Shinjuku Ward’s Okubo Park, has announced that “Kaniwo,” the restaurant run by chef Komeo, will no longer be taking part. At the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival held on the 22nd and 23rd of last month, customers who ate Komeo’s “chilled crab ramen” reported food poisoning symptoms one after another, and Minato Ward has confirmed the cause as Salmonella food poisoning. The ward issued Komeo’s restaurant, “Kappo Komeo,” a seven-day business suspension order running from September 3 to 9. On 5ch, opinions were split over whether the cause lay in the ingredients or in staff hygiene management.

On the 3rd, the “Tokyo Curry Expo” — running from the 11th of this month through the 7th of next month at Shinjuku Ward’s Okubo Park — updated its X (formerly Twitter) account to announce that “Kaniwo” would be withdrawing from the event.

“Kaniwo” is run by Komeo, a chef who rose to fame after appearing on the one-minute knockout fighting tournament “BreakingDown.” The restaurant had been scheduled to serve “Crab Curry THE CURRY” at the event. However, at the “Azabu-Juban Summer Festival” held on the 22nd and 23rd of last month, a string of customers reported food poisoning symptoms. On the 3rd, Minato Ward announced it had confirmed the cause as Salmonella food poisoning traced to the “chilled crab ramen” sold by Komeo’s restaurant, and issued a seven-day business suspension order — effective that same day through the 9th of this month — to Komeo’s restaurant “Kappo Komeo.”

The Tokyo Curry Expo account stated: “In light of announcements from the relevant authorities regarding the food poisoning incident at the Azabu-Juban Festival, we have decided to cancel Kaniwo’s planned participation in the Tokyo Curry Expo.” It added that “Spice and Vegetable Yumemin” would appear in its place.

    34AnonymousSep 3, 2026 22:15

    37AnonymousSep 3, 2026 22:15
Curry can cause food poisoning too, you know.
    Smart call pulling out.
    39AnonymousSep 3, 2026 22:16
I posted this in another thread too, but I don't think the soy milk soup was likely the cause.
That day, right next to the crab ramen stall, there was a chilled curry udon stand produced by Hana Imai, and I think the two shared the soy milk soup between them — for cost and prep reasons.
Since no food poisoning came from the chilled curry udon, I don't think it was the soy milk itself — more likely it was Salmonella that got onto an employee's hands or something.
Maybe it was the wash water used when chilling the ramen.
    42AnonymousSep 3, 2026 22:17
If the staff member who tested positive for Salmonella also ate the chilled crab ramen, it might have come through the ingredients. Or that staff member could have been a carrier all along and gotten it on their hands after using the bathroom.
Either way, the real cause is still unknown.

    Re: #42

Main causes of Salmonella food poisoning
Careless storage temperature: leaving food at room temperature (especially 20-40°C/68-104°F) lets bacteria multiply explosively. This is common in cases like 'leftover freshly-made food sat out indoors for several hours' or 'wasn't refrigerated right away.'
    65AnonymousSep 3, 2026 22:30
Apparently Salmonella turned up in an employee's stool sample.
So it really is curry then (an old joke — poop resembles curry).

    84AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:00
    Re: #81
They say the deadly poisonous destroying angel mushroom tastes great too.

Background and key points of this story

Administrative penalties for food poisoning are issued under the Food Sanitation Act once a public health center identifies the facility responsible. Salmonella typically spreads through undercooked ingredients or secondary contamination via an infected employee’s hands, and on 5ch opinions were split over whether ingredients or staff hygiene were to blame. It’s easy to overlook, though, that what Minato Ward confirmed as the cause was not the “crab curry” planned for the Tokyo Curry Expo, but the “chilled crab ramen” sold at the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival. The withdrawal from the Curry Expo was a voluntary decision made by the organizers in response to the incident — no bacteria were actually detected in the curry itself. Chef Komeo is known for moving into the restaurant business after starting out on the fighting event “BreakingDown,” and that background is part of why this incident has drawn so much attention.

  • BanG Dream! Poppin’Party Covers ‘Moré! Mi Amore’ — Gacha Sales Hit ¥148 Million in a Month

The in-game band Poppin’Party from the smartphone game ‘BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!’ covering the song ‘Moré! Mi Amore’ became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Check the gacha sales —
they pulled in ¥148 million in August alone.
    These guys are killing it.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In the thread, ‘Moré! Mi Amore’ is only ever referred to as a ‘song from the golden era,’ with no further detail given on the original track’s origins. The main point of contention was whether the song choice actually fits — several posters argued that a different group’s style, such as Afterglow’s, would have suited it better than Poppin’Party’s, while others defended the pick by noting that voice actress Megumi and others have a track record of covering golden-era Hello! Project songs. A second thread of conversation centered on the ties between the cast and Hello! Project itself, highlighting Sae Otsuka’s ongoing relationship with Juice=Juice’s Reon Inoue and Ayasa Ito’s love of BEYOOOOONDS, which led some to reminisce about the once-fierce rivalry between voice-actor fans and idol fans and how that dynamic looks today. Note that the ¥148 million figure is total gacha sales for the month of August as a whole, not a number reflecting the reaction to this cover specifically — an easy point to misread.
