  • LA-Based Actress Yuma Nakamura’s $6.19 Egg Sandwich: 5ch Says ‘Only in Japan’

Los Angeles-based actress Yuma Nakamura (56) sparked discussion on 5ch after posting on Instagram about buying a convenience-store egg sandwich — a favorite among foreign tourists — and remarking on how expensive it was. The photo showed a price tag of $6.19. Thread commenters were split between those who said it only looks expensive because of the weak yen, and those who pointed to America’s own inflation driving up prices. The conversation also expanded into how Japan’s style of egg sandwich — fluffy white bread with mayo-mixed egg filling — is a food culture rarely seen overseas.

US-based Yuma Nakamura buys a convenience-store Japanese-style egg sandwich popular with foreigners — “The price really surprises you, huh~”

Yuma Nakamura (56), who lives in Los Angeles, updated her Instagram on the 30th, expressing surprise at the price of the egg sandwich, which is popular in the US as well.

Nakamura wrote, “Went to the Japanese consulate downtown. Applied for my passport,” and posted a smiling photo holding her passport.

I forget which country it was from, but a supermarket used to sell European-made cookies, and out of curiosity I bought some — they were spectacularly bad. Europe is supposed to be the home of fine confectionery, so that awfulness was baffling. Southeast Asian cookies are way tastier than that.

Just my personal take, but I think Japanese makers make the best chocolate…

If you compare absurdly expensive overseas brands with cheap Japanese chocolate, the imported stuff sometimes wins, but at the same price point, Japanese chocolate is better.

    Re: #100
A lot of foreigners who say Japan's egg sandwiches are tasty actually say the egg filling is good but the bread isn't that great — or rather, they say it barely counts as bread

Background and key points of this discussion

Japan’s egg sandwich is made in a distinctive way — mashing boiled eggs, mixing them with mayonnaise, and sandwiching the filling between soft, moisture-rich white bread — a food culture rarely seen abroad. In recent years, this soft texture and egg flavor have become popular among foreign tourists visiting Japan, drawing more attention to it as a convenience-store item. Within the thread, however, opinions clashed over why prices look high in America: some argued it “only looks expensive once converted into yen because of the weak yen,” while others pointed to “inflation driving up prices in the US itself.” In reality, currency fluctuation and local price increases are both happening at the same time, and it’s easy to mistakenly attribute the effect to just one cause. There were also comments noting that egg sandwiches sold in America differ from Japanese convenience-store egg sandwiches in bread type and texture — a nuance that’s easy to miss from the article alone, since the same name “egg sandwich” doesn’t necessarily mean the same thing.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

timelesz, the group Inomata belonged to, debuted through a YouTube audition project rather than the traditional Johnny’s Jr. pipeline, and this difference in background came up in the thread in the form of comments like “he never did his training.” The contract termination came after a settlement had already been reached, and the fact that the agency acted before any criminal proceedings were finalized is the kind of thing that invites comparison with how past celebrity scandals were handled. At the same time, details about the victim’s identity and her relationship to Inomata have not been reported, so it’s worth noting that much of the speculation in the thread isn’t confirmed fact.

But nobody else is even aiming for that

    85AnonymousSep 30, 2026 19:24
Taking this literally is exactly why some people start saying he's just like a YouTuber
Mentally he's aiming to make a small slice laugh, and his comedy does pick and choose who accepts it — but in practice he gets most of the room laughing anyway
That's why he's ended up on TV so much; even aiming for a niche, he still brings the whole venue down

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Cookie’s remark can be read as putting into words his commitment to material that resonates deeply with a specific segment rather than chasing universal appeal. The split reaction on 5channel comes from a clash between the view that a professional comedian should satisfy the entire audience, and the view that cutting deep with even a narrow slice of people is enough. What’s notable is that while he talks about targeting a narrow audience, he has actually been expanding his exposure year after year — appearing in NHK period dramas, tokusatsu shows, and TikTok-related events — creating a gap between what he says and what he’s actually doing. Note also that the “5 people” figure is purely a figure of speech, not a number drawn from actual audience turnout or ratings data. Treating it as a statistical fact would be a misreading.

Almost every celebrity cancer lately has been colon cancer.

Background and Key Points of This Story

The sigmoid colon is the section near the end of the large intestine, and it’s one of the more common sites for colorectal cancer to develop. When caught early and removed surgically, the prognosis tends to be relatively good, and the details TOSHI-LOW has shared suggest this case is being handled with surgery for exactly that reason. Some thread comments jumped straight to pessimistic takes like ‘yeah, he’s done for,’ but that’s premature at a stage when details like the cancer’s severity haven’t been disclosed — the name ‘sigmoid colon cancer’ on its own doesn’t automatically mean a severe condition. Where opinions diverged was over the cause: many posters pointed to his own lifestyle, like drinking and ramen, but genetics also play a major role in cancer, so lifestyle alone doesn’t explain it. Some also noted that since the 2011 earthquake, TOSHI-LOW has taken to delivering socially conscious messages near the end of his live sets — a bit of band history that may need explaining to readers unfamiliar with BRAHMAN’s career.

  • L’Arc-en-Ciel to Press All 12 Past Albums on Vinyl — Buy the Full Set for a Shot at a Storage Box

L’Arc-en-Ciel will reissue 12 albums from its back catalog as limited-edition vinyl records between January and March 2027. Alongside the announcement, the band revealed a promotion in which 50 winners, chosen by lottery from fans who purchase all 12 titles, will receive a box set capable of storing every release. On 5ch, reactions ranged widely — from skepticism about the point of pressing vinyl from digital masters, to accounts of past limited editions fetching high prices on secondhand marketplace apps, to frustration that the prize goes to only 50 lottery winners rather than everyone who buys the full set.

    and repeat that 12 times.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Amid the recent vinyl revival, L’Arc-en-Ciel’s past limited editions have increasingly been resold at high prices on secondhand marketplace apps. In the thread, fans shared firsthand accounts of limited LPs like “DUNE” and “REAL” fetching tens of thousands of yen on Mercari. Meanwhile, the fact that the storage box prize goes to only 50 lottery winners among buyers of all 12 titles drew criticism, with some pointing out that past single releases gave the bonus to every purchaser — leading some fans to call this lottery system a step backward. Note that the entry method and number of winners reflect only what was announced at the time, and details such as how entry tickets are handled are based on posts in the thread rather than confirmed information; the official terms should be verified through the band’s official announcement.

  • “Disgusting”: Aussie, 24, finishes Beijing HYROX race despite diarrhea

At the HYROX fitness race held in Beijing, China, a 24-year-old Australian competitor suffered a bout of diarrhea mid-race and soiled herself, yet refused to withdraw and finished the course — sparking widespread discussion. Because later competitors were forced to use the same shared equipment, and there was a risk of slipping on the waste, posters on 5ch’s Entertainment & Sports News+ thread piled on with criticism like “that’s unsanitary” and “she should have been disqualified.” Others, however, pointed to similar incidents in past marathons in her defense, leaving opinion split over whether continuing the race was acceptable.

This thread already went up before, didn't it
Online news just keeps re-running the same stuff for people out of the loop, endlessly

Background and Key Points of Debate

HYROX is a new-format fitness race that alternates between endurance running and strength-based functional training stations, and the number of events held worldwide has been growing in recent years. In marathon history, there’s a well-known anecdote about Frank Shorter, the 1972 Munich Olympics gold medalist, who stepped off the course to relieve himself in the bushes due to stomach pain and still went on to win — so continuing to compete while feeling unwell is nothing new. What made this case contentious was something specific to HYROX’s format: because equipment like barbells and sleds is shared between competitors, later athletes using the same gear faced a hygiene risk. As of now, event organizers have made no announcement of new rules regarding disqualification or withdrawal, and the calls within the thread to “disqualify her” remain simply the opinions of individual posters.

※This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Entertainment & Sports News+) thread “Diarrhea mid-race, but she finished anyway — “Other competitors are slipping in her waste,” “It’s so disgusting” — 24-year-old Australian competitor draws anger.”

  • 1,048 File Sexual Abuse Compensation Claims, 231 Deemed Ineligible — 5ch: ‘No Way This Was Just One Man’s Crimes’

On September 30, SMILE-UP. updated its official site with the latest status on compensation for sexual abuse committed by the late Johnny Kitagawa. Since claims opened, the number of applicants has reached 1,048, with 581 having received compensation payments and 231 informed they would not be compensated. Reportedly, 226 applicants have not responded despite repeated attempts to contact them. On the thread, opinions clashed over the 231 deemed ineligible — some speculated it was a response to false claims, while others pointed out that some cases involved abuse that didn’t go through the agency, making it impossible to confirm affiliation and thus disqualifying them. Alongside this, many voices also questioned the stance of TV networks and the government, who failed to report on the issue while Kitagawa was alive.

    Re: #8
Apparently some of them were claiming: scouted directly by Johnny → molested and fled before the agency even got involved → couldn't confirm affiliation, so they're ineligible.

They said they'd consider it if a third party could testify to having been in the "play room" (yariheya) at the time, so they were looking for witnesses.
    19AnonymousOct 1, 2026 00:58

But for some reason, there was a guy close to Johnny nicknamed "Daikun'i" (the "Grand Cordon," a nickname for former PM Nakasone, Japan's highest honoree)…
Setting the whole predilection thing aside, rumor had it that Johnny and Daikun'i were connected through the GHQ (the postwar Allied occupation authority).

You clean up after "Epstein Kitagawa" yourselves.
That's money you made by preying on kids for years.

Local Kansai TV has been trashing him for ages.
They used to call him "that homo old man."

Just from what I know, Hamamura Jun, Kamioka Ryutaro, Takajin, and Uenuma Emiko all criticized him by name way back when, and Yokoyama Knock even had a former member of Four Leaves (an old idol group) who'd written a tell-all book on his show for a special feature.

Why would he need to specifically bring his own talent to the TV station to do that?

Isn't it only Japanese people letting this case fade from memory?
Overseas, Japan's entertainment industry is basically known for the horrifying Johnny's scandal (there's barely anything else it's known for).
We should be taking this a lot more seriously.

Even if it's fading, the perpetrator is already dead, so there's nothing more that can be done anyway.

He probably abused practically every talent in the agency, so the real number of victims is likely way bigger than this.

    Re: #87
It wasn't just signed talent — he went after trial-basis Juniors too.
In fact, even before he started the talent agency, he'd already formed a boys' baseball team and been preying on kids through that.
There's no way it stops at 1,000.
    88AnonymousOct 1, 2026 02:11
There were probably some who lied, and some who just couldn't speak up.
If the entertainment world and the agency had done their jobs properly, he could've faced justice while he was still alive.

    Re: #88
    It's not about the agency.
This could've been prevented if the police and TV networks had done their jobs.
Even NHK has executives who parachuted in from Johnny's connections.
They knew and just let it slide.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

This issue came to light in 2023, when overseas media reports triggered the public revelation of the late Johnny Kitagawa’s years of sexual abuse. The former Johnny’s agency subsequently changed its name to “SMILE-UP.” and shifted its focus entirely to supporting victims. Since compensation claims opened, the number of claimants and payment status have been announced periodically like this. On the thread, opinions were divided over why 231 people were deemed ineligible for compensation — some suspected “these must be false claims,” while others pointed out that cases where the agency can’t confirm affiliation are running into review difficulties. That said, the latter is just an unconfirmed explanation from within the thread, and it’s worth noting that this report alone doesn’t clarify how SMILE-UP. officially explains its criteria for denial.

  • Akiko Hinagata: “I Have No Friends at All” — Actress Opens Up About Her Current Ties to Her Old Mecha-Ike Co-Stars

Actress Akiko Hinagata (48) appeared on ABEMA’s “Ai no Hyena 6” (Love Hyena), streamed on September 29, and revealed that she has “no friends at all” left among the members of “Mecha²Iketeru!” (“Mecha-Mecha Iketeru!”), the long-running variety show she was a regular on for years. With years having passed since the show ended, many of her former co-stars have gotten married and had children, changing their lives — a point that came up in discussion. On 5channel’s Entertainment/Sports News+ board, opinions were split: some said “that’s normal if it’s purely a work relationship,” others noted “it’d be hard to invite married people out,” and the thread expanded into talk about which members had married and anecdotes from the show’s heyday.

    Nice one
Though, well, that's actually her real name, so…

Background and key points of this discussion

“Mecha²Iketeru!” was a long-running variety show that aired from 1996 to 2018, and Akiko Hinagata was a regular cast member from early on. Since the show ended, many of her co-stars have married and had children, and their changed circumstances are seen as one reason personal ties have faded. In the thread, many took the view that “it’s hard to casually invite married people out” and “work relationships are separate from private life,” with some comparing the distance between entertainers to that between former coworkers after leaving a job. Few responses linked Hinagata’s comment to loneliness — most treated it as a natural change, a nuance that doesn’t come through in the headline alone.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Sō Kuramoto was a screenwriter known for works like “Kita no Kuni Kara” (“From the Northern Country”) and “Kinou, Kanashikute” (“Yesterday, I Was Sad”); the former series is also well known for repeatedly using Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi’s “Kanpai” (“Cheers”) within the show. The two men shared a hometown connection, both hailing from Kagoshima, and posters on the thread noted that this tie was how Nagabuchi grew close to Kuramoto and the actors around him. Meanwhile, some posts brought up past troubles in Nagabuchi’s personal life, though many of these claims were poorly substantiated, so this article kept its focus narrow. There were also posts trying to pin a “right-wing” or “left-wing” label on Nagabuchi’s ideological stance, but opinions were split even among the replies themselves — it’s worth noting how difficult it is to pin down someone’s ideological position from just a fragment of their words or actions.

  • Nakayama Kinnikun Hit With ¥162 Million Lawsuit Over Ex-Manager’s Fraud — 5ch Asks: ‘Victim or Scammer?’

It came to light on September 30 via a Daily Shincho report that fitness personality Nakayama Kinnikun has been sued by people connected to actor Kane Kosugi, demanding he “pay back the money.” The defendants are Kinnikun himself, his personal agency “Company 333,” and former manager Yuichi Iio, who has already been arrested on suspicion of fraud. The plaintiffs are jointly demanding a total of ¥162 million, of which ¥70 million is claimed from the individual plaintiff alone. Opinions on 5ch were split — some argued it’s unreasonable to hold Kinnikun liable after the fact when lending the money was the plaintiff’s own decision, while others raised the question of the talent’s duty of oversight, such as how the agency’s official seal was managed.

    Re: #25
He doesn't have the means to repay it, so they're suing jointly (the scammer, Kinnikun, and Kinnikun's company — three parties).

If Kinnikun had left management of the company seal or his own personal seal in the scammer's hands, joint liability can sometimes be established (since it's normal to trust a contract that's been properly stamped).

But if it was just a verbal arrangement (some made-up line like "I've been put in charge of producing Kinnikun's health food line"), that alone probably wouldn't hold up.

Guess Ohtani (Shohei Ohtani, MLB star) counts as part of the muscle world too, lol

He could've at least gotten a lawyer and talked it out.
Cutting off contact outright is just dumb.
He's built his whole image on being a good guy — he should've handled this carefully to avoid a lawsuit.

I get that Kinnikun was scared of saying anything careless,
but not even managing "I'll consult a lawyer and get back to you" is the real problem.

This lawsuit is such an impossible ask, I'm speechless, lol

The person who lent the money bears the real responsibility here.
They should be suing the lender first.

    They are suing him.

The defendants are Kinnikun, his personal agency "Company 333" (read "Sasami" — a pun on 3-3-3 that also means chicken breast, a nod to bodybuilding), and former manager Yuichi Iio (52). The defendants are being asked to jointly pay a total of ¥162 million, of which ¥70 million is being claimed by Mr. A.

These two used to be a duo and entered the M-1 qualifiers together, right?
I think they were called "Perfect Powers."

Hasn't he had a lot of money-related trouble ever since leaving Yoshimoto?

Background and Key Points of This Story

Nakayama Kinnikun previously left the major talent agency Yoshimoto Kogyo and has been operating under his own independent agency, “Company 333” — the backstory behind thread comments like “maybe he should go back to Yoshimoto.” The lawsuit stems from the arrest of former manager Yuichi Iio on suspicion of fraud, with the plaintiff seeking joint payment from both Kinnikun himself and his agency. The central question is how far a talent’s personal liability extends for money trouble caused by their manager — as comment 59 points out, whether joint liability sticks depends on how much Kinnikun actually entrusted the manager with handling contracts and the company or personal seal. The framing behind the headline — that “‘I’m a victim’ won’t fly” — reflects reports that Kinnikun’s side cut off contact without fulfilling any duty to explain, which is why the reporting suggests this can’t simply be written off as him being a victim.
