  • Komeo Announces Closure of ‘Kappo Komeo’ Restaurant Amid Food Poisoning Scandal

“Kappo Komeo,” a restaurant in Azabu-Juban, Tokyo, has announced its closure. The restaurant previously caused a food poisoning outbreak, and Komeo is reportedly involved in running it. On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports News+ thread, commenters speculated the closure might really be a rebrand aimed at a “comeback,” pointing out that the crab ramen shop “Kani wo,” also said to be linked to the same operator, is still open as usual. Others focused on hygiene management, suggesting HACCP (hygiene control plan) records may not have been properly kept, leaving opinion split on what’s really behind the closure.

    It's just a rename-and-'comeback' move, right?

    HACCP compliance is mandatory now.
You have to log things like daily fridge temperature checks.
And when cooking in bulk, you're required to keep food samples on hand too.
    199AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:30
Kani wo, the crab-ramen specialty shop,
has kept running without a single day off even after the food poisoning case,
so Komeo's probably closing simply because customers stopped showing up.

That ramen was served under the Kappo Komeo name,

    302AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
    Re: #269
The story is the chilled crab ramen was cooked and served out of the Kappo Komeo kitchen,
which is why Kappo Komeo got shut down.

People online are saying they probably used ingredients from Kani wo, the crab ramen specialty shop,
but Kani wo itself has kept operating normally without any closure, even now.

He probably can never get back into the food industry again.
If he did, it'd definitely cause reputational damage to other businesses by association.
Even just having Komeo as an investor would be nothing but a debuff at this point.

Background and Key Points of This Story

“Kappo Komeo” previously caused a food poisoning incident, and this closure announcement appears to follow administrative measures such as a business suspension. Hygiene management plan (HACCP) record-keeping has been mandatory for all food businesses since June 2021, so if the claims raised in the thread — that temperature logs and stool-test records weren’t being kept — are accurate, this wasn’t just bad luck but a real failure of the management system itself. Opinions were split on whether the closure reflects a withdrawal due to poor business or an attempt to relaunch under a different name, with speculation spreading on both sides without confirmed evidence. Some also questioned why the crab ramen shop “Kani wo,” said to be run by the same operator, has kept operating normally, but the thread never established exactly how much equipment or ingredients the two shops actually shared, so no firm conclusion can be drawn.

  • New Queen Movie Opens in October: 5ch Users Push Back Hard on “One-Hit Wonder Overseas” Claim

To mark the 80th anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s birth, Queen: Budapest — a concert film documenting the band’s 1986 Budapest show — opens in theaters on October 7. The release prompted a music critic’s piece on Queen’s enduring appeal, which was picked up on 5ch [Japan’s largest anonymous forum network] and sparked a flood of comments about favorite tracks and “greatest album” debates. Some pushed for the Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack era, others questioned the synth-heavy direction from The Game onward, and opinions split sharply over claims like “they only caught on here because of a Kimutaku drama” [a nickname for actor Takuya Kimura] and “overseas they rank below Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd.”

2026 marks the 80th anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s birth. The historic 1986 Budapest concert, captured at the peak of Queen’s powers, hits theaters October 7 as Queen: Budapest. More than half a century on, why does Queen still command such devotion? Music critic Yuichi Masuda — who has followed the band in real time since 1975, later served as editor-in-chief of Music Life magazine, and supervised the Japanese subtitles for Bohemian Rhapsody — breaks down the appeal.

On Jazz, the needle drops and track one is 'Mustapha' — it blew my mind, I thought it was something off an Islamic call to prayer

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Queen debuted in 1973, and even after Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991, the band stayed popular through greatest-hits compilations and tributes; the 2018 hit film Bohemian Rhapsody further widened their fanbase among younger listeners in Japan. Greatest Hits is considered one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history, so the thread’s claims that Queen is a “one-hit wonder overseas” or “inferior to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd” don’t necessarily line up with actual sales figures. The new film Queen: Budapest documents the final show of the 1986 Magic Tour, widely known as one of the last major concerts Freddie performed despite a worsening throat condition. The thread’s disagreement centered mainly on which album era counts as Queen’s classic period — those favoring early work like Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack clashed with those who saw the synth-driven sound from The Game onward as a step down.

  • Formerly “Indians”: 1 Year, 4 Months After Renaming, Recognition Stuck at “About 60%, Still a Tough Battle”

Chonmage Ramen, the comedy duo formerly known as Indians, appeared at a Tokyo event on October 1 and revealed that one year and four months after their name change, public recognition of the new duo name is “about 60%, still a tough struggle.” In a thread on 5ch’s Geinou Supo Sokuhou+ board, users ran through examples of renames that worked out (Summers, Cream Stew) alongside past cases where a new name never stuck and the act reverted to its old one (Animal Kaidan, Rafurekuran’s switch to Cotton, etc.), fueling a growing consensus that “duos who actually succeed after renaming are the minority.” Meanwhile, some questioned the naming sense itself, while others had fun pitching alternative name ideas.

    Thu, Oct 1, 3:12 PM

Comedy duo Chonmage Ramen attended a sampling event for Nobel Confectionery’s “VC-3000 Throat Tablets” in Tokyo on the 1st.

Akihiro Tabuchi, who showed up in a yellow full-body tights costume, spent about 30 minutes handing out the product. Mingling with everyone from kids to foreign visitors, he was thrilled: “I’m so grateful it was such a huge hit. If I get fussed over like this, I want to dress like this all the time — I had almost 100 times more photos taken of me than usual.” His partner Kimu laughed along: “He’s practically sparkling. If he’d bring this look to our manzai act too, I’d actually look forward to smacking him.”

This is something Arita can only say now that time's passed — back then they pushed the line "we got popular because we renamed!", but actually they were already getting popular, and he genuinely hated being forced to rename right as their old name "Kaijarisuigyo" was finally catching on.

Guess it's the best name to them — someone offered them a good one, but they pushed through with their own pick anyway.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The rename from Indians to Chonmage Ramen reportedly took place in 2024 out of consideration for Native Americans. Opinions in the thread split over whether the slow uptake comes down to “the naming sense itself” or simply “a lack of exposure and name recognition” to begin with. While Summers and Cream Stew were cited as rare examples of a rename actually sticking, cases like Animal Kaidan and 2700 — which flip-flopped between their new and old names — were also raised, underscoring just how much a rename can affect a comedian’s brand. The original article also notes that despite the low 60% recognition figure, the duo themselves seemed in high spirits at the event — suggesting a gap between how the performers see it and how well the public has actually caught on.

  • Itano Tomomi’s Changing-Room Video: Hotel Confirms It Approved the Footage in Advance — 5ch: “So Itano Was Right All Along?”

A controversy has been brewing over a family-trip vlog that former AKB48 member Tomomi Itano posted in September, which included footage filmed in the changing room of a public bath. It has now emerged that the hotel where she stayed, The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, reviewed and approved the video before it was published. Josei Seven Plus obtained LINE messages exchanged between Itano’s side and hotel staff and reported on October 1 that the hotel had even requested changes to the video’s wording. On 5ch, opinions split: some said “so Itano was right all along,” while others questioned the hotel’s own judgment in allowing changing-room footage to be filmed at all, and some speculated it may have been a promotional arrangement.

    October 1, 2026

Regarding a family-trip vlog posted on September 3 by former AKB48 member and talent Tomomi Itano (400,000 subscribers), it has been confirmed that the hotel where she stayed, The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, reviewed the video before publication and approved its content. Josei Seven Plus reported this on October 1, revealing details that had not previously come to light.

At issue was a scene in the video “[Summer Vacation] A Family Trip to Nikko with the Three of Us Again After a While [vlog]” showing her drying her eldest daughter’s hair in the changing room of the public bath. On September 5, Itano explained on X that the filming had been done with special permission from the hotel, and apologized.

    It's obviously for promotion
These days, having an influencer or celebrity stay and turn it into a video is way more effective than advertising yourself

Background and Key Points of This Story

The changing-room footage was part of the vlog published on September 3, and on September 5 Itano explained on X that she had “obtained the hotel’s permission.” This latest report backs that up, and the new fact here is the LINE exchange showing the hotel reviewed the video itself before publication and even gave notes on the wording of her comment. The thread split mainly into two camps. One is the clash between those who say “Itano was right / she’s the victim” and those who say “the hotel itself was out of line for allowing changing-room filming at all” — both sides accept the fact of the prior review but land on opposite conclusions about it. The other is speculation that the hotel’s reason for pre-checking the video was promotional; it’s worth noting this isn’t directly confirmed by the LINE screenshot or the reporting itself — it’s purely speculation within the thread. There was also disagreement in the replies over whether it was Itano’s side or the hotel’s side that made the LINE exchange public, which can’t be settled from the reporting alone.

  • Ijuin Hikaru Apologizes for Calling Crayon Shin-chan Writer’s Episode “Boring”

On TBS Radio’s “Ijuin Hikaru: Shinya no Bakajikara,” Ijuin Hikaru’s remark that the September 19 episode of Crayon Shin-chan, “It’s the Nohara Couple’s Afternoon,” was “boring enough to make your legs give out” sparked controversy. The episode barely featured the show’s protagonist, Shinnosuke, and after screenwriter Sho Hasumi responded on his own radio show, Ijuin apologized during the ending segment of the September 28 late-night broadcast, saying, “I caused Hasumi a great deal of trouble.” Reactions on 5ch split between those praising Ijuin for apologizing sincerely, those who felt no apology was needed since he was just sharing his opinion, and those who rewatched the episode themselves and weighed in on its merits.

Talent Ijuin Hikaru appeared on the late-night broadcast of “JUNK Ijuin Hikaru: Shinya no Bakajikara” (TBS Radio) on September 28 and addressed, during the show’s ending segment, the controversy that had erupted following the previous week’s broadcast.

The episode Hasumi wrote was the September 19 installment of Crayon Shin-chan, “It’s the Nohara Couple’s Afternoon” — an unusual episode that barely featured Shinnosuke, focusing instead on a conversation between his parents, Hiroshi and Misae.

On the late-night broadcast on the 21st, Ijuin had said the episode was “boring enough to make your legs give out,” among other remarks. Hasumi responded on his own radio show, revealing that he had been a listener of Ijuin’s program back in his college days.

This year's buzzword of the year is either 'Riku/Ryu' (the figure-skating pair's nickname) or 'boring enough to make your legs give out.'"

Kuruma's different, since he actually talked to Hasumi directly.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

“Ijuin Hikaru: Shinya no Bakajikara” is a long-running flagship TBS Radio program hosted by Ijuin Hikaru, known for his trademark style of giving blunt, honest opinions. Sho Hasumi is a broadcast writer and actor who, among other work, writes for Crayon Shin-chan; the episode at the center of this controversy, “It’s the Nohara Couple’s Afternoon,” was an unusually structured installment that barely featured the show’s protagonist. What split opinion in the thread wasn’t so much whether the apology itself was warranted, but a clash between two positions: that there’s nothing wrong with stating an honest opinion, versus that remarks from someone with influence require more consideration. The real sticking point was where to draw the line on who gets to criticize what, and how. Some commenters also pointed out that Hasumi himself never disputed the “boring” opinion — Ijuin’s apology was actually about a separate issue — meaning that treating the apology as a simple retraction of his review may not match what actually happened.

Comedic actor Shiro Ito (89) announced on October 1st that he will retire from show business upon turning 90 on June 15th next year. Since joining the “Laughing Companions” (Warau Nakama) theater troupe as a trainee in 1958, he has spent roughly 70 years in the industry, rising to fame with the comedy trio Tempuku Trio before building a long career as an actor as well. The stated reason is his declining physical condition. On 5channel threads, posters expressed shock (“He’s already 90?!”), fondly recalled his roles in shows like “Oedo de Gozaru” and “The Ito Family’s Dinner Table,” voiced concern over signs of decline heard on his radio appearances, and speculated about why he chose to announce his retirement at this particular time.

Comedic actor Shiro Ito (89) announced on the 1st that he will withdraw from show business upon his 90th birthday on June 15th next year, citing his declining physical condition. Ito first became interested in theater through the influence of his eldest brother, who ran an amateur troupe. After passing through “Laughing Companions” and the Hitoshi Ishii Troupe, he rose to fame as part of the comedy trio Tempuku Trio alongside Shinsuke Minami and Mutsuo Totsuka.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Since becoming a trainee at the “Laughing Companions” theater troupe in 1958, Shiro Ito has built a roughly 70-year career spanning the comedy trio Tempuku Trio, TV appearances in shows like “Oedo de Gozaru” and “The Ito Family’s Dinner Table,” and memorable villain roles in Juzo Itami’s films. Japanese entertainers often remain “active for life” well into old age, so announcing a retirement tied to a birthday more than nine months away is relatively unusual. In the thread, comments lamenting his age-related decline mixed with questions about why he chose to announce it now. Note that the official announcement cited only “declining physical condition” — speculation in the posts about memory or speech problems came from commenters themselves, not from Ito or his agency. Some posts also appeared to confuse him with other people or other shows, such as questions about the survival status of other “The Ito Family’s Dinner Table” cast members.

The thread kicked off with basic questions like “What even is TNX?” before moving into discussion of a track left off Berryz Kobo’s best-of album and talk of idols once signed to the label. In the latter half, commenters pointed to the poor sales of past projects like Possibo to debate Tsunku’s management skills versus what actually made Hello! Project successful, with opinions sharply divided.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

TNX operates separately from Hello! Project — it’s the company Tsunku♂ has personally run for idol and music projects, having launched groups like Possibo and Spicy Choco over the years. The thread’s recurring “it didn’t sell” criticism needs to be weighed against the fact that, even though these are also Tsunku productions, they differ from Up-Front’s Hello! Project groups in scale of promotion and backing — it isn’t simply a matter of the songs themselves being bad. There’s also the point raised about Berryz Kobo’s best-of album: “Elegant Girl” appears on the regular-edition CD but is missing from streaming, which may come down to the rights for that track sitting with TNX. Within the thread, the view that “Tsunku has no talent for business” coexisted with “the songs themselves are good” — the debate centered on separating his reputation as a songwriter from his reputation as a manager.

  • Ryota Yamasato Skips ‘DayDay.’ Due to Illness — Koji Higashino Fills In, Announcer Takeda Sends Him a Message

Ryota Yamasato of the comedy duo Nankai Candies missed the October 1 live broadcast of Nippon TV’s “DayDay.”, which he co-hosts, due to illness, with comedian Koji Higashino stepping in as his replacement. At the top of the show, announcer Shinichi Takeda informed viewers of Yamasato’s absence and added a caring word for him. On 5ch, some users questioned the show’s entire hosting lineup, asking “Wouldn’t it be fine with just Taketan (Takeda) alone?”, while others praised Nippon TV and talent agency Yoshimoto Kogyo for how quickly they arranged a stand-in. Still others posted messages worried about Yamasato’s packed schedule and his health.

At the top of the show, freelance announcer Shinichi Takeda, who co-hosts the program, introduced Higashino by saying, “Today, since Mr. Yamasato isn’t feeling well, Mr. Higashino has kindly come in for him.”

Background and Key Points of This Story

“DayDay.” is Nippon TV’s weekday morning info show, which has long been hosted by a three-person team: Ryota Yamasato, announcer Miyu Kuroda, and announcer Shinichi Takeda. The only reason given for this absence was “poor health,” with no details released about the circumstances or expected length of his time off. On the thread, several posters noted the industry custom of agencies sending a higher-ranked replacement when their talent is absent, framing Koji Higashino’s appearance in that light. Plenty of speculation also circulated about the reason behind the absence, but none of it is based on any official statement from the show or from Yamasato himself, and none of it should be treated as confirmed fact.

  • Kii Kitano Opens Up: Teacher Told Her “Don’t Come Back, You’re Filthy” — The Childhood Years When the Gas Was Cut Off and She Couldn’t Bathe

Actress Kii Kitano (35) appeared on Nippon TV’s “Ueda to Onna ga DEEP ni Hoeru Yoru” (“The Night Ueda and the Women Howl DEEP”) on the 29th, and during a talk segment themed “The Reality of Single Fathers,” looked back on her childhood. She revealed that after her parents divorced when she was 3, she grew up in a single-father household, went through a period when the gas was cut off and she couldn’t bathe, and was told by her kindergarten teacher, “You’re filthy, don’t come back.” She said her father remarried when she was 17, giving her a new mother and siblings. On 5ch, opinions split between those skeptical she could recall childhood memories so vividly, others countering that shocking experiences stick with you into adulthood, and those pointing out how thin public support for single-father households was back then.

Kii Kitano: “My teacher said ‘You’re filthy, don’t come back’” — the childhood when the gas was cut off and she couldn’t bathe

Actress Kii Kitano (35) appeared on Nippon TV’s “Ueda to Onna ga DEEP ni Hoeru Yoru” (Tuesdays, 11:59 PM) on the 29th, looking back on her own childhood.

The day’s theme was “The Reality of Single Fathers.” Kitano revealed about her own family, “My parents divorced when I was 3. My younger brother went with my mother, and I went with my father, so it became a single-father household,” and added, “From age 17 it was like he remarried — a new mother came into our home, and I gained siblings.”

Yeah, in showbiz you can't make it to the top unless you'll do anything.
    33AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:10
So is she going to start cashing in on that angle now?
    34AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:11
As a single parent you get subsidies and can get your kid into daycare, so isn't this whole thing made up?
Or maybe her dad was just busy and forgot to go pay the gas bill —
this whole story's probably only about a 3-week stretch anyway, right?
    42AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:14
    Re: #34
Not sure about now, but back then single fathers weren't eligible for subsidies like that, I believe.
    54AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:20
There's no way she'd actually remember stuff from kindergarten. And remembering the exact words some adult said to her on top of that? What kind of genius is she?
    62AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:25
    Re: #54
I've lived almost half a century and I still remember stuff like that.
    98AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:45
    Re: #54
Yeah, the stuff that shocked you, you remember.
That's exactly why I make sure never to say things like that to kids.
    64AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:26
Her image from "Life" is so strong I don't even know what other hit shows she's been in.

"Hashi Monogatari" ("Bridge Story") is good.

If he was working a normal job, you wouldn't get so broke your gas gets cut off.

    Re: #72
Maybe he kept meaning to pay it at the convenience store and just forgot.

Single-father households only became eligible for benefits starting in 2010 —
that's only 16 years ago, so single mothers could get by, but single fathers would've struggled.
You can't just leave a small kid alone either, so your working hours are limited too.
    76AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:31
I get it if she was called dirty because her clothes were dirty, but
does just not bathing actually get you called "dirty"?
She was presumably still washing her face and hands.
Not bathing alone shouldn't make you look dirty.
Something about this story doesn't add up.

I'm about 10 years older than her, but there was usually one unkempt girl per grade.
Probably what we'd now call a neglect case.

    Re: #76
"Something smells" → look closer, "oh, she's dirty."

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Child-rearing allowances for single-father households weren’t established until a system reform in August 2010, so at the time Kitano was a child, there was essentially no public support for single-father families. The thread split mainly into two camps. One was skeptical, arguing it’s odd to vividly recall memories from kindergarten age; the other countered that shocking events stick with you well into adulthood. The second point of debate was whether, between her signature bullied-character role in “Life” and past reports about her relationships, she’s been made fun of more than she deserves — sympathetic voices were notably common too. Worth noting: the only basis for this story is her own remarks on a talk show, with no corroboration offered regarding her father’s circumstances or the household’s finances at the time.

  • Singer milet Reveals Depression Struggle: “Between Life and Death Is Just the Thickness of One Gyoza Wrapper” — Late-Night Post Sparks Reaction

In the early hours of October 1st, singer milet posted on her personal X (formerly Twitter) account, writing “Between living and dying there’s really only a thin layer about the thickness of one gyoza wrapper” and “Damn it, I’ll live,” opening up about her struggle with depression. Because the post came from a heavyweight singer who has performed at the Kohaku Uta Gassen (NHK’s prestigious New Year’s Eve song contest) four times, and because it was posted in the dead of night, it drew wide attention, even getting picked up by Yahoo! News. On 5channel (5ch) threads, reactions ranged from surprise at her distinctive “gyoza wrapper” metaphor to concern over the unexpectedly harsh realities of life as an entertainer — though opinion split over the sincerity of the post and her past career.

Red-and-White Singer Reveals Depression: “Between Life and Death Is One Gyoza Wrapper,” “Damn It, I’ll Live” — Late-Night X Post

Singer milet updated her X account on the 1st, sharing her thoughts on life and death.

At 3:08 AM on the 1st, she began: “Between living and dying there’s really only a thin layer about the thickness of one gyoza wrapper. Pull on it even a little and it feels like it’d tear right through. Give me a break. This is so pathetic. Where does this feeling even come from. Gyoza wrapper, just go flutter around somewhere else.”

Gyoza, 'damn it'… is she channeling Horiemon? [Takafumi Horie, a famous entrepreneur known for blunt, profanity-laced commentary]

She's fallen from that mystery 'Olympics singer.' Her agency's to blame.
    14AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:53
I think she meant 'hanging by a thread' (lit. 'one layer of neck skin') [a set Japanese idiom, 首の皮一枚, for barely surviving].

Depression and social media seem like a terrible mix.
    17AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:54
Never heard of her despite being a Kohaku performer. Guess that's what getting old does to you (^o^)
    21AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:55
'Gyoza wrapper' isn't exactly a beautiful lyric lol
    23AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:55
It's unpleasant to read — write that stuff on the back of a flyer instead [i.e., keep it to yourself].
    25AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:55
Back in her Niconico utaite (cover-singer) days she went by 'Rascal.' Most people who come up through Niconico are pretty thick-skinned and quick to rationalize their own behavior, so I figured she'd be the same, but… guess not.
    31AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:56
At one point her agency was pushing her hard — she even landed a movie heroine role.
    32AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:56
milet and Maria Nishiuchi are kind of similar — good raw material, but the people backing them push too hard and it breaks them.
    33AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:56
This might really be the end, who knows. [a well-worn ironic meme phrase implying something's finished]
    36AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:57
I'm an unmarried, non-regular-employed, not-great-looking guy in my 50s, and even I'm having a decent time living — what happened to her?
    37AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:57
I keep mixing her up with 'Aimar.' [likely a mix-up with footballer Pablo Aimar, due to the similar-sounding name]
    38AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:57
Checked her Wikipedia page — she lands a ton of commercial tie-ins every single year. Even with that kind of star treatment, she still gets depressed?
    41AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:59
That movie was a huge flop — it gave her an uncool image. Kind of the same pattern as [singer] miwa. She's done for.
    42AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:59
Give 'Nanmo Nee' [one of her songs, title means 'Nothing At All'] a listen — the fan chorus version. Seriously, for real.
    43AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:59
I think she's just overthinking it. Get some sun, exercise, go travel to a developing country or something — it'll make the worrying feel silly.
    46AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:59
You're more than just your music. You can live without singing. It'll be okay. Even if you can't sing anymore, you're still wonderful.
    47AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:59
So even being beautiful, a great singer, a top-university grad, and successful at work doesn't stop you from getting depressed.
    77AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:05
Re: #47 Maybe she feels singing is all she has. People who end up struggling mentally usually have low self-esteem and self-worth — even though from the outside she looks like pure talent.
    60AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:02
You wouldn't know how big that gap really is unless you were already dead.
    61AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:02
'Gyoza wrapper, go flutter around somewhere else' — it's not laundry hanging on a line! [playing on her 'flutter/wave' wording]
    62AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:02
From people I know, it really does seem like the ones everybody fawns over are more prone to depression. Well, it's easier when no one expects anything of you.
    63AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:03
A lot of these 'alphabet-named' female singers [stage names in Roman letters, like milet, LiSA, Aimyon] turn out to be kind of a letdown.
    92AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:08
She's gorgeous — surely she could just get married.
    96AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:09
I mean, aren't you not supposed to tell depressed people to 'hang in there'? It's hard to know how to react. Though I do feel for her.
    101AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:11
Re: #96 'Hang in there' is fine to say. It's 'push yourself even if it kills you' that's off-limits.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Celebrities disclosing mental health struggles on social media has become fairly common in recent years, and this case spread widely once news outlets picked it up. On the thread, most of the reaction centered on milet’s choice of words — rendering a “razor-thin margin” (紙一重, kamihitoe) as a “gyoza wrapper” — but what stood out was the split between posters who sincerely worried about her and those who questioned the post’s sincerity. Several commenters also pointed out that self-esteem can run low behind the glamorous facade of showbiz work. That gap in understanding — that success and mental/physical struggle can coexist — is arguably part of why online confessions of distress are so often met with suspicion of being a “publicity stunt” or a “cry for attention.”
