  • Is a PS5 with 1TB Storage a Bargain at ¥55,000? 5ch Erupts Over Actual Usable Capacity

A post claiming “you can buy a PS5 with 1TB of storage for ¥55,000” went viral on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board. While some praised the price as a steal compared to buying PC parts separately, others pointed out that against the advertised 825GB, the actual usable capacity is only around 667GB — sparking a heated argument over how to interpret the storage figures.

Claims that the PS5 has reached RTX 3060-class performance, plus price comparisons noting a standalone GPU alone costs over ¥60,000, only fueled the cost-performance debate, which never reached a consensus.

    1AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:34
A PS5 with better gaming performance than this, 1TB of storage, AND a ¥10,000 controller thrown in, all for ¥55,000 — it genuinely makes no sense.
    4AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:37
An SSD alone runs you ¥20,000-30,000.

Yeah, it's basically catching up to SanDisk Extreme-tier pricing now (a premium SSD line — "SDex").

    GPU: ¥80,000
    SSD: ¥30,000
    Motherboard: ¥20,000
    Controller: ¥10,000

That's how much value you're getting.
    15AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:43
    Re: #8
So the gap between that estimated value and the actual price is Sony eating the loss (selling at a deficit).
    11AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:41

    Re: #12
The ¥55,000 model has 825GB, but the system reserves about 160GB, so what you can actually use is around 660GB.
    17AnonymousAug 26, 2026 18:44

    Was it? Mine's the original disc-drive model and I'm pretty sure it's 825GB — wasn't 1TB the later revision?

    Re: #21
Nope. It's 825GB total, and after the system takes its share you're left with 670.

    67AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:36
    Re: #55
The NAND chip installed is 768GiB (825GB). After setting aside over-provisioning space, what's left for the user is 715GiB (768GB).

Every other manufacturer sells this exact SSD labeled as 768GB — only "Shitty Sony" (a common 5ch insult pun, "クソニー") labels it 825GB.

For the PS5, after the system takes its cut, the user is actually left with 667GiB (716GB).

If the over-provisioning matches what normal SSD makers use, that means the PS5's system is hogging 48GiB.

  • Giants’ Kai Takuya gets his first hit of the season — and it’s a home run! 5ch thread erupts

In the 5ch live-thread for the Giants vs. Yakult game, Giants catcher Kai Takuya’s first hit of the season became the talk of the board — because it went straight out of the park. Known for his powerful throwing arm, dubbed the “Kai Cannon,” his blast had some fans ranking it alongside Sakamoto Hayato’s walk-off three-run homer and Maru Yoshihiro’s pinch-hit grand slam as one of the “miracles of the season” — while others jabbed, “the third one’s pretty weak sauce.”

  • DECA!BEAT Dance Video Drops, Fans React to Positioning — 5ch: “This Is Exactly It”

UP-FRONT Channel has released a dance practice video for DECA!BEAT’s “Wacha☆Future.” On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, members’ formation positions and choreography became a hot topic, with opinions split over Ebata getting “buried” in the background and how Goto Hana was used.

There was also some sarcastic back-and-forth about the video that was originally only supposed to be released once a mission was completed.

    15AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:12
Choreography at this level should be a breeze for the current members.
    17AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:13
Ebata's the one getting buried the most here.
Even more buried than she was in Juice=Juice.

Choreographer Makita Sayako is nice and easy to follow.
    20AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:16
Ebaru isn't really standing out that much.
Though her look in the MV turned out amazing.
    25AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:19
Ebata really is just background filler.
If it were Kawashima, it wouldn't have turned out like this.
    52AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:48
    Re: #25
    Huh? Kawashima wasn't picked, though?
The one who got picked was Ebata.
    26AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:23
Obviously, "Ketsuron kara Itte Chōdai" on Hello! Station had more of an all-star feel.
In DECA!BEAT, it's not that Ebata is background filler — it's that everyone else just has an unusually strong presence.
    27AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:25
If she's relatively less distinctive and has a weaker presence, isn't that basically the definition of "background filler"…
    28AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:25
I feel like Eba works as a nice accent in Juice=Juice, though.
Maybe it's because she's got such a strong image of squealing around with the younger members.
    31AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:27

    41AnonymousAug 26, 2026 21:43
Goto's clearly a talent suited for outside work.
But if she wants a long career, she'll also need to build a solid fanbase within the Hello! Project scene.
This is probably a transitional phase where there's a lot to figure out.

  • Makoto Shinkai Thanks Fans as ‘Your Name.’ Turns 10 — 5ch: ‘Five Centimeters Per Second Was Better’

Director Makoto Shinkai shared his thoughts on X as “Your Name.” marks the 10th anniversary of its release. On 5ch, threads compared it to his other major works — with some arguing “Five Centimeters Per Second was better” — while others praised the film citing its box office haul and Academy Prize win. Meanwhile, comments dismissing him as a “one-hit wonder” drew pushback backed by box office figures.

    Wed, Aug 26, 5:20 PM

Director Makoto Shinkai (53) posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the 26th, once again expressing his gratitude as his blockbuster anime film “Your Name.,” which he directed and wrote, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its release.

“Your Name.” was released 10 years ago, on August 26, 2016. It earned roughly 25 billion yen at the box office, ranking 5th all-time domestically, and won Best Screenplay at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize — the first animated film ever to do so.

He went on to put out two more 15-billion-yen films after that — is there any other 'one-hit wonder' like that in history?
And on top of that, a live-action adaptation of one of his lesser-known early works pulled in 2.5 billion yen.
    79AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:31

Three films in a row over 10 billion yen — that's insane.

Nara city councilman Hezuma Ryu (35) posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the 25th, offering a word of caution to young people eager to become famous even if it means courting controversy.

Hezuma wrote: “I started on social media seven years ago. Today my total follower count passed 1.5 million. I went down a crooked path, but who would’ve thought a nobody from Yamaguchi Prefecture would end up a politician? You really never know what life has in store.”

    49AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:06
He seems to have actually been successful in sports back in his school days, and watching how he's handled run-ins with that big-name figure, he's fairly patient underneath it all.
If he'd skipped the whole baffling nuisance-YouTuber route and just worked a normal job as a sports-background company employee, he probably would've earned more in the long run.
    68AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:24
Apparently, after the whole Hezuma Ryu saga, TV networks quietly stopped reporting on YouTubers who cause scandals.
And even when they do cover it, they leave the person's name out.

Back in the day, Kato from the show Sukkiri said the same thing about the Hezuma incidents: "Honestly, we don't want to report this because it just ends up being free publicity for a criminal."
If you think of it as an advertising cost, a few weeks in detention is cheap.

Anyway, those types who post day after day, 365 days a year, insulting people just to get attention —

If he got banned from YouTube and X both, he'd have nowhere left to show off.

On 5ch, a comment that the band was “starting to look like a Get Wild one-hit wonder” kicked off a wave of posts championing their other classic songs, while the thread also lit up with behind-the-scenes stories from the Hong Kong music-video shoot and talk of former support members B’z’s Tak Matsumoto and access’s Daisuke Asakura.

TMNETWORK, making its first music-show appearance in 12 years, will debut on the NHK General music program “SONGS” (Thursdays, 10:00 PM), airing September 3.

TMNETWORK — the trio of Tetsuya Komuro, Takashi Utsunomiya, and Naoto Kine, who debuted in 1984 — took the music scene by storm with an innovative sound built on synthesizers and computers. This special feature spotlights the group who, through countless pioneering efforts, laid the groundwork for today’s J-POP.

  • Ryohei Nishino Announces ‘Notice of Intent to Sue’ Against Senior Comedian, Weighs Legal Action: ‘He Committed Violent Acts Against Me’

On the night of the 25th, King Kong’s Ryohei Nishino posted a lengthy statement on his X account saying he was preparing a “notice of intent to sue” against Impulse’s Atsushi Tsutsumishita. On the thread, reactions focused less on whether the claims were true and more on “we can’t tell if this is a bit or if he’s serious,” sparking a mixed debate over Nishino’s comedic style and his recent popularity.

  • Surgeons Operate on Wrong Leg, Implant Artificial Bone by Mistake — Aichi Hospital Settles for ¥5.5 Million

A medical error has come to light at Ichinomiya Municipal Hospital in Aichi Prefecture, where surgeons operated on the leg that wasn’t broken and implanted an artificial bone in it. The mix-up was discovered during a post-operative X-ray, and the hospital settled by paying 5.5 million yen in damages. On 5ch, alongside shocked reactions like “how does a mistake like that even happen,” many users shared their own habits of marking the correct leg before surgery and personal stories of left-right mix-ups, while others questioned why no measures exist to prevent this from happening again.

For elderly people, if you break a bone and have surgery, you need rehab or you won't walk again. In this case she'll need the surgery redone on top of it — 5.5 million yen feels way too cheap as compensation.

    139AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:19
Normally, a hospital holds onto every piece of evidence from a medical accident. So they could've just quietly redone the surgery in secret and no one would ever know. The fact that this hospital had the integrity not to take that route… honestly, that's moving.
    178AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:27
    Re: #139
If the fracture site had gone necrotic, worst case they'd have had to amputate the whole leg — that would've given it away eventually. Actually, the tech who took the post-op X-ray must've been the most shaken. You take the pre-op X-ray, confirm the fracture, then take the post-op X-ray and there's an artificial femoral head sitting in the opposite leg.
    151AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:22
A femoral neck fracture is when the 'neck' at the top of the thighbone breaks and shifts, cutting off blood flow, which makes natural healing basically impossible — that's why they do a hip hemiarthroplasty (artificial femoral head replacement).

So… was the doctor drinking on the job or something?

Big bones are important organs. An artificial bone loses that function entirely. The downsides massively outweigh any so-called benefit.
    173AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:26
The other day, a lady in her 70s from my neighborhood fell off a roughly 40cm-high stool while reaching for something on a shelf. Just from that one fall she apparently broke her right femur and an arm bone, and her daughter was really down about the chance she'd end up bedridden for good… You hear about elderly people's health collapsing all at once after a fracture like this constantly, so the grandma in Re: #1 really got dealt a rough hand…
    186AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:28
    Re: #173
Why even use a stool for something out of reach… I really don't want to get that careless when I'm old.
    192AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:30
A broken femur in an elderly person can be directly life-threatening, so surgery is necessary even if the patient ends up bedridden regardless.
    202AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:31
    Re: #192
Oh, so she's bedridden either way? I assumed the surgery was so she could walk again.
    204AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:32
Probably a hospital where the nurses, techs, and doctors just don't communicate.

Nurse: 'Um, doctor, that's the wrong side—'
Doctor: 'Never mind, just be quiet.'

    Something like that, probably.
    227AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:39
    Re: #204
In my case, the radiology tech was on the phone furiously protesting, explaining why the scan couldn't be done — but the doctor forced it through anyway, and I got put into the MRI with a metal halo vest still bolted to my head. I passed out three seconds in and they had to stop the scan. The doctor faced zero consequences. That's when I saw what the medical profession is really like.
    205AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:32
This probably isn't a rise in medical errors — it's just that they're easier to catch now.

    229AnonymousAug 26, 2026 19:40
    Re: #223
They can — and they do. Depending on how the bone broke, they remove the section that's lost blood flow, shape the cut surface at the fracture site, insert the artificial femoral head, and fuse it to the patient's own bone.

So they do check the fracture site — just after it's already been removed.
