  • Buddha Statue Handed Down on Tsushima Confirmed as Japan’s Oldest Imported Buddhist Image — 5ch: “Isn’t That Hoarding a Little Too Well?”

At the special exhibition “Buddhist Images That Came from Kyushu,” now on display at the Kyushu National Museum in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, a 5th-century gilt-bronze Buddha statue that had been passed down in a private home on Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, is on show. Believed to have been made during China’s Northern Wei dynasty, it predates the officially recorded introduction of Buddhism to Japan by roughly 100 years, making it the oldest imported Buddhist image ever found in the country. Although discovered 38 years ago, this marks its first public showing in 30 years. On 5ch, threads gathered simple questions about whether the color seen through the display case is gold or verdigris, along with reactions about the statue’s actual size and the story of how it made its way to Japan.

At the special exhibition “Buddhist Images That Came from Kyushu,” now on display at the Kyushu National Museum (Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture), a gilt-bronze seated Buddha statue (nyorai zazo) from China’s Northern Wei dynasty (453 AD) is on show. Made roughly 100 years before Buddhism was introduced to Japan, it had been passed down in a private home on Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, and was discovered 38 years ago. It is considered the oldest imported Buddhist image ever found in Japan, and this marks its first public display in 30 years. The exhibition runs through the 30th. (By Yoshito Torii)

“This is a Buddha statue that has caught the attention of Buddhist art researchers around the world, including in Europe and the United States,” explained Makoto Osawa, 40, a senior researcher at the museum specializing in imported Buddhist images, standing in front of the glass case.

The seated Buddha stands 11.6 cm tall, or 22.7 cm including its pedestal. Features such as the four-legged pedestal, the wavy, piled-up hair, and the robe draped over both shoulders are considered characteristic of the Northern Wei era, when Buddhist statue-making in China began in earnest.

If you zoom in you can tell the surface is covered in verdigris. The display case lighting has a low color temperature, which is why it looks yellowish/golden.

Still, it's kind of amazing that in the end it wasn't Cao Cao, Liu Bei, or Sun Quan of Wei/Wu/Shu, nor Zhou Yu or Zhuge Liang, but Sima Yi Zhongda who ended up grabbing supremacy — Romance of the Three Kingdoms is something else.

Dating something to "year 2" of an era is a classic forger's trick. Say "year 1" and the date might not even exist; go with year 3 or later and the era might not have started yet — so "year 2" is the safe bet that won't get you caught.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Tsushima has long served as a gateway linking the Asian continent and Japan, an area known for the movement of people and goods well before any official route existed. The fact that this statue predates the official transmission of Buddhism (552 AD per the Nihon Shoki, or 538 AD per the Jogu Shotoku Hoo Teisetsu) by nearly 100 years suggests that imported Buddhist images may have been brought over at the individual or village level even before the official transmission — an easy point to misread as overturning the accepted “year Buddhism came to Japan” itself, which it does not. As for the color seen through the display case, some commenters thought it looked gold, but as explained in the thread, the surface is actually covered in verdigris from copper oxidation, and it only looks yellowish because of the low color temperature of the museum’s lighting. At 11.6 cm tall (22.7 cm including the pedestal), it’s small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, yet the fact that this is only its second public showing since being discovered 38 years ago speaks to the weight of its history.

  • Hololive merch sales hit ¥5 billion, sparking buzz — 5ch: “Half of that’s probably the talents buying their own stuff”

In a chat thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyou G” board, several topics heated up in parallel. What stood out most was a post claiming Hololive-related merchandise sales had reached “¥5 billion,” which set off speculation about its relationship to Super Chat (donation) income, and whether part of the sales figure came from the talents themselves buying their own goods. The thread also mixed in exchanges about the accuracy of AI-generated images and illustrations, along with reactions to a personal account about a poster’s upbringing — a real grab-bag of both light and heavy topics sitting side by side.

Got a mole in it? (ネズミ, slang for a sneaky leaker/spy account)

Background and points of debate on this topic

The “¥5 billion in merch sales” figure that came up in the thread originates from a 5ch post — it’s worth noting this is not an official number released by any management office or company. VTuber revenue is split across multiple pillars, including Super Chats (donations), merchandise sales, and stream ad income, so a rise in merch sales doesn’t necessarily mean donation income has fallen — in some cases total revenue stays stable even when Super Chat income cools off. The thread mixed two competing theories — that strong merch sales might be the flip side of falling Super Chat income, and that the talents’ own purchases of their own merch might be inflating the sales figure — but both remain pure speculation. Alongside this, the thread also carried unrelated topics of very different weight, from judging AI-generated images and illustrations to a heavy personal account of someone’s upbringing. That such a wide range of tones can coexist in a single thread is very much characteristic of the Nandemo Jikkyou board.

  • Angerme’s Autumn Tour NHK Osaka Show: Ground-Floor Seats Still Up for Grabs Right After General Sale Opens

Tickets for Hello! Project idol group Angerme’s NHK Osaka Hall show, part of their autumn hall tour, went on general sale — and the fact that ground-floor seats were still selectable on the seat map right from the start became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Background and key points of this discussion

When it comes to ticket sales through Japanese play-guide platforms, shows handled simultaneously by multiple sites — Pia, eplus, Lawson Ticket, and so on — tend to show more visible open seats on the seat map even after general sale opens. Shows that sell out entirely through fan-club presales never go to general sale and end up listed on just one site. So the thread’s take that “handled by multiple sites = unpopular” really just reflects how the seat map happens to look, not actual total attendance or sell-through rates. It’s also worth noting that monthly listener counts on services like Spotify and live-show attendance are separate metrics, so direct comparisons should be made with caution. The back-and-forth in the thread is driven mainly by rivalry between different groups’ fans, and no official sales figures were actually cited — worth keeping in mind while reading.

After Rina made the approach, they registered the marriage on June 24 without ever having actually dated.
Even after marrying, the two never lived together, continuing to live apart in Tokyo and Nagoya. But three weeks into the marriage, in July, the wife — growing distrustful of Hayashishita's avoidance of important talks like household finances — sent him a signed divorce form, triggering a marital crisis… She explains what led her to the divorce.

Was there even any real substance to this marriage?

Background and key points of the debate

“Big Daddy,” real name Kiyoshi Hayashishita, is a TV personality who became known through a documentary series following his large family of biological children, and has repeatedly made headlines over the years for cycling through divorces and remarriages. This time, the focus of discussion is that the split came after registering the marriage with zero days of actually dating, and that the marriage lasted a mere 54 days — a notably short breakup even by his own track record. The thread split roughly into two camps: those pointing to “his own repeated pattern of divorcing” as the real problem, and those questioning “the judgment of a partner who married him knowing his history.” Note that the claims about savings and debt he reportedly made before the marriage are presented in the reporting as the ex-partner’s own testimony, with no third-party confirmation given in the article — this shouldn’t be taken as an established fact.

  • Jean Alesi, Who Ended Common-Law Marriage with Kumiko Goto in June, Reportedly Held Secret Wedding in Italy

Former F1 driver Jean Alesi (62) reportedly held a secret wedding on Italy’s Amalfi Coast with his new partner Ania, just two months after announcing the end of his common-law marriage to actress Kumiko Goto (52), according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera and other outlets on the 29th (local time). Around 100 guests are said to have attended from around the world, including former F1 figures such as Alain Prost. On 5channel forums, users debated why the relationship with Goto never led to a formal marriage registration, and discussed the legal standing of common-law marriage in France.

Multiple Italian media outlets reported on the 29th (the 30th, Japan time) that French former F1 racer Jean Alesi (62) secretly held a wedding ceremony in Italy with Ania, his partner of several years.

Alesi had been in a common-law marriage with actress Kumiko Goto (52) since 1995, but on June 13 this year Goto announced through her talent agency that the relationship had ended, commenting: “I’m sorry to bring up such a personal matter, but I have ended my partnership with Mr. Jean Alesi, with whom I shared my daily life for many years, and we will now each go our own way.” The secret wedding came to light barely two months later.

Corriere della Sera reported: “The Amalfi and Sorrento coasts, which Jean Alesi has long cherished and loved, became the setting for a new chapter in his private life. The Italian-French former F1 champion married today away from the public eye, in secret.” Around 100 guests reportedly traveled from around the world for the ceremony, including sports celebrities such as French former F1 champion Alain Prost (71).

    uh… yikes.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

In France and Italy, unlike the image of “common-law marriage” (jijitsukon) in Japan, there’s a widely used legal framework for civil partnerships that carries marriage-equivalent rights along with formal arrangements for property division, so choosing not to file an official marriage registration is not unusual there. This difference in legal systems is part of why the Alesi-Goto relationship was long described as a “common-law marriage.” Opinions in the thread were split over whether this latest ceremony counts as a legal marriage, with some commenters pointing out that a church wedding doesn’t necessarily equal a legally registered one. The fact that it came just two months after Goto’s announcement also drew attention, but as of this report neither party has commented on any connection between the wedding and the split — the story remains based solely on local media reporting.

  • Ochiai and Nakahata Clash Over MLB-Bound Prospects — 5ch Asks: “Isn’t Going to the Majors Itself the Repayment?”

Former Chunichi Dragons manager Masayuki Ochiai and former DeNA BayStars manager Kiyoshi Nakahata appeared on TBS’s “Sunday Morning” to discuss high schoolers who sign minor-league contracts directly with MLB teams, bypassing Japan’s NPB draft entirely. Ochiai took the position that the choice belongs to the player, saying “whether to go or not is his own decision to make,” while Nakahata countered that players “should repay Japanese baseball” first — putting the two at odds. On 5ch, opinions split across a wide range of angles: whether “repayment” is even the right framing, the harsh realities of pay and conditions in the minor leagues, how past direct-to-MLB players like Junichi Tazawa turned out, and how the situation compares to transfer norms in soccer and basketball.

In soccer, a cut of the transfer fee gets distributed — I think even the elementary school team a player once belonged to gets something like 0.5%.
The club that receives the transfer fee is required to share it.

Background and key points of this debate

The path of high schoolers signing minor-league contracts directly with MLB teams, bypassing Japan’s domestic draft, drew major attention in 2008 when pitcher Junichi Tazawa signed with the Boston Red Sox. At the time, NPB, citing an agreement related to the rookie draft, refused to let Tazawa return to a Japanese team — a stance that caused friction until it was later corrected. Minor-league contracts often pay less than what young NPB players earn in salary, and the harshness of the conditions is frequently pointed out, though looking at signing bonuses alone, some cases exceed a rookie NPB salary. Opinion on the thread split mainly over whether “repayment” is even the right framing — one side wanted consideration shown toward NPB for providing amateur-era infrastructure like Koshien Stadium, while the other argued individual career choices shouldn’t be burdened with a sense of debt to the sport. The discussion’s spread into comparisons with transfer systems in soccer and basketball is also worth noting as a wrinkle specific to baseball.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt/summary of the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Baseball] Masayuki Ochiai: on players heading to the U.S. without going through the NPB draft, “the choice is his own” — Kiyoshi Nakahata dissents: “I want them to repay Japanese baseball”.”

  • Fed Chair Warsh: If Inflation Persists, ‘There’s Work to Be Done’ — Yen Slides Past 160

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, speaking at Jackson Hole, hinted at further action if inflation stays elevated. The remarks accelerated yen selling in New York trading on the 28th, pushing the dollar past ¥160 for the first time since the joint Japan-US intervention in late July. On 5ch, users clashed over whether the Bank of Japan should follow with a rate hike of its own, while others countered that a hike is unrealistic given the burden of interest payments on government debt. Opinions were also split on whether the weak yen benefits export industries or simply squeezes households through higher prices — reviving the broader debate over the monetary easing pursued since Abenomics.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh said in a speech on the 28th that if inflation remains elevated, “there is work to be done,” leaving the door open to further interest rate hikes without specifying a direction.

Following Warsh’s remarks, the yen weakened further against the dollar in New York foreign exchange trading on the 28th, briefly touching ¥160 to the dollar for the first time since the joint Japan-US intervention at the end of July. The rate had been hovering around ¥159.50 before the speech, but growing expectations that the Fed will hike rates soon fueled speculation of a widening Japan-US interest rate gap, triggering yen selling and dollar buying.

Warsh delivered the speech at the annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Past Fed chairs have used this venue to signal the future direction of monetary policy, so market watchers were paying close attention.

I've lost count of how many rounds of this we've had, but just like China, weakening your own currency is a beggar-thy-neighbor move that's actually a net plus for the country doing it. "The US won't allow it" is just a bunch of interest groups dressing up their objections in polite language.

It's a problem that you don't get that if export industries were actually growing, the yen wouldn't be this weak in the first place lol. Just reading the comments on Yahoo News shows how off-base the average Japanese person's economic thinking is. Maybe economic education needs a bit of a boost.

They made it so the foreign exchange special account — the government fund earmarked for currency intervention — can no longer even be used for currency intervention.

What's the legal story with Takaichi and Katayama on the foreign exchange special account, anyway?

Right now in the US, prices have risen so much that the public mood has moved past politics entirely.
Average household income has topped $100,000 (about ¥16 million).
Service-industry workers earning close to minimum wage are making around $17/hour (about ¥2,700).
The old middle class can't cover rent and fixed costs anymore, and it's gotten to the point where people are moving out to the countryside or emigrating to Mexico.

You can't raise interest rates without first getting the primary balance into surplus.
And that requires a consumption tax hike.

Let's all pull together as a nation to stop Japan's economy from collapsing.

Running monetary easing and low rates while also raising taxes seems like it works against itself, I think. Doing two completely opposite economic policies at the same time is like flooring the gas while also slamming the brake — I honestly don't get pursuing such contradictory policies at once. Just my personal take though.

From the 1997 consumption tax hike all the way to the start of Abenomics in 2013, national tax revenue never once increased. Getting the primary balance into surplus through tax hikes is nonsense.
    168AnonymousAug 29, 2026 09:24
    Re: #132
A tax hike won't do anything about the current price increases. The reason is that today's inflation isn't demand outstripping supply — it's the interest rate gap between Japan and the US weakening the yen. If you don't fix the actual cause — the weak yen — and just raise taxes to suppress demand, all that does is make things sell less; the yen stays weak regardless. Since Japan imports its resources and raw materials, as long as the yen stays weak, prices stay high. Raising taxes to curb demand while costs are already inflated by the weak yen would just leave people struggling to get by. Just my personal take though.

Flip it around — the yen was overvalued for way too long after the bubble era. Its "true" level is probably more like where it was around 1970. The chart even looks like a head-and-shoulders pattern (a technical chart formation) heading into a crash.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The Fed chair’s remarks came at the annual Jackson Hole conference, a venue long associated with signaling the future direction of monetary policy. What drew particular attention this time was that the yen fell to the ¥160 level for the first time since the joint Japan-US intervention at the end of July — a threshold the market strongly associates with past government/BOJ intervention. On the thread, opinions clashed between those calling for the BOJ to follow with a rate hike of its own and those arguing a hike is untenable given the burden of interest payments on government bonds and the state of the fiscal balance. Views were also split over whether the weak yen is a net positive — some see it as a tailwind for export industries, others see rising import costs squeezing household budgets. Whether the monetary easing since Abenomics is the main driver of the weak yen was also debated, though it’s easy to overlook that the picture is more complex than a simple good-vs-bad framing — compounding factors like the resource price spikes since 2022, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the widening Japan-US rate gap from the Fed’s rapid hikes all play a role.

Thread posters wondered what kind of workplace the words “heavy industries” were even supposed to conjure up, floated the dream image of a floor-to-ceiling glass office straight out of a TV drama, and posted AI-generated pictures of their “ideal office.” Others, however, posted actual photos of the real Marunouchi headquarters, pointing out that the atmosphere can vary a lot depending on which department you’re assigned to.

Veteran senior → Knows the section chief's true nature. Competent, and when "the chick" (マンコ, crude 5ch slang used dismissively for a female coworker) screws up, doesn't even scold her — just says "Forget that, let's fix the problem first."

Senior coworker → When the chick's mistake happens, plays the reassuring smile-and-pat-on-the-shoulder role: "Just leave it to the veteran, like he said."

Colleague → Insanely competent. Blunt and unfriendly. Has the section chief's total trust. Thinks the exact opposite of the chick — tsundere type. Stylish, "this is good enough as it is" attitude. Regular at the bar. Plays the Kimutaku (heartthrob actor Takuya Kimura) role.

    Background and Key Points

This review follows a familiar pattern seen on job-change and employment review sites: complaints about the gap between how imposing a company’s name sounds and what the actual workplace is like. Heavy-industry manufacturers like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are primarily in the business of building factories and plants, so many such companies have a shop-floor culture that’s a world away from the glass-walled high-rise offices seen in TV dramas. What really got the thread going wasn’t so much the rights or wrongs of the review itself, but how strikingly uniform people’s mental image of a “stylish office” turned out to be, shaped heavily by generation and media exposure — the trend of posters generating their own “ideal office” images with AI became the symbol of that. At the same time, actual photos of the real Marunouchi headquarters were also posted, and it’s worth adding, since it doesn’t come through from the replies alone, that the impression a workplace gives can vary enormously depending on the department and location an employee is assigned to. It should also be noted that some reactions to the review included posts generalizing and disparaging “women’s advancement in the workforce” — since treating one poster’s personal experience as representative of women as a whole is an unfounded generalization, those replies have been excluded from this article.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Anything Goes Live) thread “[Sad News] Woman: “I joined Mitsubishi Heavy Industries but it wasn’t stylish… I’m quitting”.”

  • Showa-era ‘Supercar Bikes’ Getting an Electric Reboot — 5ch: ‘Showa Kids Are Losing Their Minds’

It has come to light that development is underway to revive the “supercar bicycles” that emerged during the late-1970s supercar boom — Bridgestone’s “Monte Carlo” chief among them — using modern technology such as electric pop-up headlights, a 12-speed electronic shifter, and LED turn signals. The project is being led by the head of the development company, who says he owned a Monte Carlo back in the day. The plan reportedly includes clearing the legal requirements for road use while also adding smartphone connectivity. On 5ch, some posters were thrilled (“Kids who grew up in the Showa era are over the moon”), while plenty of others were more skeptical (“Who’s actually going to buy this now?”), and the thread lit up with nostalgic talk about the old brands and bike designs.

The shift lever sits on the frame’s top tube, and sliding it forward or backward triggers an electronic gear change. An LED above the lever shows the current gear. There are 12 speeds in total. While modern sport bikes typically get their gear count from “6 rear sprockets × 2 front chainrings,” this model sticks with the original’s single-lever design, achieving its 12 speeds with 12 sprockets on the rear wheel alone.

The project is being produced by the company’s president, Norimitsu Nakai. Nakai owned a Bridgestone-made “Monte Carlo” supercar bike back in the day, and he reportedly launched this project to bring that memory back to life.

Every feature and spec found on the original supercar bikes is being updated with modern technology, and development is proceeding toward a commercial product that also clears the legal requirements for use on public roads. It’s also set to include modern touches like smartphone connectivity for checking and adjusting settings.

These days, this is probably what a 'supercar bike' looks like

    Background and Talking Points

Supercar bicycles were a genre of kids’ bikes that emerged in the late 1970s, riding the wave of the supercar boom sparked by movies and manga. They were known for semi-drop handlebars, gear shift levers, and round headlights reminiscent of the Lamborghini Countach or Ferrari 365 GT4 BB. Bridgestone’s “Monte Carlo” was one of the defining models of the genre, and this new project traces back to the developer’s own memories of owning one.

Opinions in the thread mostly split over one question: who’s actually going to buy this? The generation that once dreamed of these bikes is now around 50 years old, and many pointed out the gap between nostalgia and practicality. At the same time, features like the motorized headlight and smartphone integration were welcomed by some as a genuine attempt to reproduce the era’s gimmicks within modern legal requirements. It’s also worth noting that adding turn signals to bicycles ties into ongoing debates about safety standards for e-assist bikes and mopeds, so there’s more going on here than pure nostalgia.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Breaking News Plus) thread “Electric pop-up lights, 12-speed shifting, LED turn signals… Updating the dream supercar bike with modern technology, now in development.”

  • 5ch Split Over Rumors That Only Japan’s PS5 Version Will Be Censored

Rumors that the Japanese PS5 version of GTA6 will be a censored release have sparked discussion on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board. It started with a jab: “Only Japanese PS5 owners are stuck getting the censored version, yet PS5 users themselves don’t seem to care.” Some countered that GTA5 already had content differences between PS5, Xbox, and PC, and that regions beyond Japan — like the Middle East and India — have their own restrictions too. In practice, though, the thread quickly drifted away from the censorship issue itself and into the usual PS5-vs-Xbox sales-numbers slap fight.

Isn't this way more serious than the frame rate debate?
GTA's whole appeal is that anything goes — a censored version kind of defeats the point, doesn't it?
And everyone's just ignoring this and screaming about FPS instead.
    4AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:07
    It's not just Japan.
The Middle East often gets restrictions similar to Japan's, so the Japanese and Middle Eastern versions frequently end up bundled together.
GTA doesn't really lean on gore, so Germany probably won't cut much.
But if there's LGBTQ content, India and Pakistan might censor it.
    35AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:24
    Re: #4
Huh, guess quite a few countries have restrictions then.

I'm on Series X, but honestly I wish they'd censor just the gay stuff lol
There's already an arachnophobia mode, right? lol
    6AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:09
    Your logic's backwards.
It's PC and Xbox that are the weird ones for letting you play a version that's banned in Japan.
Sony's the one actually following the rules.

    Re: #6
PS5 can boot overseas-region discs and play them too, though.
    15AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:17

Isn't that against the terms of service?
    19AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:17
    Re: #14
I have no clue how the PS Store actually works — if you enter a download code, does it pull the overseas version regardless of the country set on your account?
    8AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:10
No idea, but just buy it from Play-Asia like in the old days.
    11AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:12
    Re: #8
Even if you buy the physical version, it's just a code-in-a-box these days, so what actually downloads is still the Japanese version anyway, right?
    41AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:29
Who cares about the censorship or the actual content?
Nobody in here is even planning to buy it.
Have you ever once seen a "Goki" (a derogatory nickname for PlayStation fanboys) actually talk about the content of a PS5 game? Never happens.
    49AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:37
    Re: #41
Pokémon, Splatoon, Xenoblade threads — people dive straight into discussing the actual content.

Marathon, Saros, Toukon threads — literally nobody talks about the content.

That's what happens when nobody's actually bought the game.
    53AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:39
    Re: #41
Most people don't care either way — isn't that exactly why the PS version outsold the Xbox version?
    78AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:58
Only a tiny handful of weirdos actually care about censorship.
The ones going on about "censorship this, censorship that" are just Xbox fanboys who don't want PS to sell well.
You can trash-talk PlayStation all you want, nobody's buying that garbage Xbox.
    85AnonymousAug 29, 2026 12:06
In the leak, a guy got run over by a car and his leg just popped clean off.
Wonder what'll happen in the retail version.

Oh wait, sorry — guess that won't apply to the "walled-off edition" 🤣

    Re: #85
Dismemberment's fine in something like Monster Hunter or against monsters, but I don't really want to see it happen to humans or everyday animals.
Though it sounds like there won't even be an option to turn it on or off, which is probably why this whole thread exists.
    138AnonymousAug 29, 2026 13:03
    Re: #85
Adding more animations like that is just going to tank the frame rate even more.
    146AnonymousAug 29, 2026 13:24
Well, no Japanese person owns a super-niche console like Xbox anyway, so everyone's buying the censored version.
    167AnonymousAug 29, 2026 13:46
    Re: #146
I'm Japanese, sorry for owning your "super-niche" console I guess.

    Re: #146
Sorry, the Xbox version's actually selling like crazy in Japan too lol
    151AnonymousAug 29, 2026 13:30
Xbox can't even manage to sell 2,800 copies of anything.
It's a console where even a huge title like Forza Horizon 6 only moves 1,400 units.
    155AnonymousAug 29, 2026 13:32
    Re: #151
If a globally huge Marvel game only does 2,800, then 1,400 is actually a pretty solid showing.
    157AnonymousAug 29, 2026 13:33
    Re: #151
Xbox users are buying the digital version instead.
    192AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:16
Honestly, I just don't see GTA6 taking off in Japan as things stand.
    201AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:28
    Re: #192
The media hyping it up this hard is honestly kind of unsettling.

    Re: #192
The last one blew up because VTubers and streamers played it, so this one probably will too.
Sakura Miko's already reacted to this one, in fact.
    203AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:29
Please, somebody actually care about the censorship lol
PS gets its own quarantined server lol (Xbox's dead server population is the real problem though)
    207AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:34
    Re: #203
Sounds like you've never even played GTA5.
    222AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:45
    Re: #203
This is the trash console that got Marathon and Toukon depopulated worldwide in record time — and you think a "quarantined" server won't end up just as dead?
You really think Japanese players are all going to rush out and buy the censored, gutted version?
Think this'll finally be Sony trash's first domestic million-seller?
    205AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:32
    Isn't it split into:
    Xbox server
    PS5 censored server
    PS5 uncensored server

    ?
    212AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:39
    Re: #205
There's no way they'd split servers by censored/uncensored.
Why would they pour that much resource into such a minor region?
For PS, Japan doesn't even get its own server — you get routed to the Asia server.
Even if you managed to boot the North American version, you'd get sent to the US server, and you probably can't even log into the account in the first place.
    225AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:49
    Re: #205
Xbox basically quarantines players too, you know.
    214AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:40
If you want the best experience and to play it as fast as possible right now, Xbox Series X is your only real option.
    216AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:41
    Re: #214
You can't play PS-exclusive content on it, so it's not really the "best" experience.
    218AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:43
    Re: #216
"Exclusive content"? Like what exactly? The faith born out of persecution?
    241AnonymousAug 29, 2026 15:17
    Re: #216
    PS's "exclusive" is RTX 2060-tier 1440p at a variable 30fps, right? lol
Spec-wise, Xbox actually looks capable of a locked 30fps.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Content restrictions on Japanese game releases are usually decided by each publisher’s own judgment, based on CERO’s ratings guidelines as well as an eye toward alignment with overseas rating bodies — GTA5 itself had certain scenes adjusted only in the Japanese version. This thread, too, started from unconfirmed information that “only the PS5 version will be censored”; it’s worth noting that neither Sony Interactive Entertainment nor developer Rockstar has made any official announcement about specific content restrictions. Posters also raised technical questions — like whether region-locked accounts can boot overseas-region discs, and which region’s data a PS Store download code actually pulls — but these remain speculation, and the real behavior will have to wait for an official statement. Where opinions diverged was over how many people actually care whether censorship happens at all; in practice, the thread drifted away from the censorship question itself and into the usual PS5-vs-Xbox sales comparisons and console-war sniping.
