  • His Only Hobby Is Watching ‘Yuyake Nyan Nyan’ — 5ch: ‘Yu-Nyan Is My Life’

A thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board blew up after a poster showed up whose only hobby is watching the 1980s Fuji TV show “Yuyake Nyan Nyan” — and got grilled with questions. The show ran for two and a half years, but the poster said, “I died on August 31, ’87, and then again at the finale on September 20 — ever since, I’ve just been an empty shell,” revealing they haven’t gotten into anything else since the finale. They said they still support Onyanko Club member “Yuyu” to this day, and replies kept coming asking about her age back then, for images, and for other background info. The thread lit up with debate over the merits of such devotion, alongside plenty of nostalgic reminiscing.

"Nyan nyan" was slang for sex

    Background and talking points

“Yuyake Nyan Nyan” aired in Fuji TV’s early-evening slot from 1985 to 1987, and is known as the show that launched Onyanko Club — born out of an amateur-audition segment — into overnight stardom, laying the groundwork for the idol boom that followed. As the thread itself notes, the show’s suggestive title and content drew criticism from PTA groups at the time. The main point of debate in this thread was whether to see the poster’s continued devotion to one member, some 40 years after the show ended, as “admirable” or “a bit much” — and the poster themselves noted that the spread of video streaming services has made it easier to preserve and rewatch old footage, which they credited as part of why the obsession has lasted.

  • Zion Suzuki Makes History as First Japanese Goalkeeper in Champions League — Aston Villa Win Opener

Aston Villa, home to goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, faced Club Brugge in Matchday 1 of the Champions League league phase on September 8 and won 3-2. Suzuki became the first Japanese goalkeeper in history to appear in the Champions League proper, helping secure the win. He joined the club this season on a permanent transfer from Parma, and after also becoming the first Japanese player to debut in the Premier League, has locked down the starting goalkeeper role. On the 5ch “Geinou/Sports Sokuhou+” board, the thread buzzed with assessments of Suzuki’s performance, comparisons to Takefusa Kubo and legendary goalkeepers Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi and Seigo Narazaki, and discussion of how he had been Shusaku Nishikawa’s backup during his Urawa Reds days.

[Sept. 8, UEFA Champions League League Phase Matchday 1: Club Brugge 2-3 Aston Villa]

The UEFA Champions League (UCL) opened its league phase on the 8th with matches held around the continent, and Aston Villa (England), home to goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, defeated Club Brugge (Belgium) 3-2. Suzuki became the first Japanese goalkeeper ever to play in the Champions League, contributing to the winning start.

Suzuki joined Aston Villa this season from Parma. After making the first-ever Premier League debut by a Japanese player in Matchday 2 against Arsenal and claiming the starting goalkeeper job, he also earned a starting berth in the Champions League.

There's also a story that when it looked like he might not even hit 180cm as a kid, he was told, "You're a keeper — cut back on training if you have to, just sleep," and being forced to rest like that is credited with helping him grow all the way to 190cm.
If he'd stayed a forward, he'd have ended up just an average-height guy with a strong mixed-heritage build, nothing more.

If that's the only way you can look at it, better not post on forums — you're just embarrassing yourself.

    Background and Talking Points

Zion Suzuki’s given name, “Ayane” (彩艶), is read as “Zion,” and that’s the nickname used throughout the thread. He completed a permanent transfer from Parma to Aston Villa this summer, locked down the starting goalkeeper spot in the Premier League from the season opener, and was also handed the starting job for this Champions League match. During his time at Urawa Reds he had to settle for being backup to starting keeper Shusaku Nishikawa, but his career took off rapidly after his move abroad. While the thread lit up with comparisons to past national-team goalkeepers like Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi and Seigo Narazaki, some posts touching on Suzuki’s mixed heritage veered into discussions of race and immigration policy — those posts have been excluded from this piece.

  • Juice=Juice Fans Keep Announcing Themselves in Other Groups’ Comment Sections — 5ch: “We’re Juice=Juice Family!” (smug face)

On the Hello!Project board, a discussion took off about how Juice=Juice fans tend to identify themselves as “Juice otaku” even in videos and on social media that have nothing to do with their own group. Some in the thread pointed out that fans of popular groups greeting and helping each other out at events by naming their group is a longstanding idol-fandom custom, while others suggested it might be tied to Juice=Juice’s growing activity outside Hello!Project in recent years. As the thread went on, it turned into a broader argument about the gap between “new” fans who flowed in through social media and longtime fans who’ve followed Hello!Project for years.

(laughs). Not that many people know this, but—

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Hello!Project has a culture where multiple groups share the same big venues, so fans naturally cross paths at events and on social media. Fans of popular groups leaving comments naming their own group under other fans’ posts is described in the thread as a longstanding, mutually-promotional custom within the idol fandom. That said, the real focus of the debate isn’t an evaluation of Juice=Juice itself — it centers on the temperature gap between “new” fans who recently flowed in via social media and longtime fans who’ve followed Hello!Project for years, making it more a reflection of generational friction within the fandom than a comment on the group’s popularity. As symbolized by the remark about “Hello!Project’s 29-year history,” this kind of old-guard-versus-newcomer debate is a recurring staple of Hello!Project threads.

  • Switch 2 ‘Ocarina of Time’ Priced at ¥8,980, Sparks Fierce Price Debate on 5ch

Nintendo has announced that the Switch 2 remake of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” will be available as a digital download for 8,980 yen (tax included), releasing on November 5, 2026. On 5ch’s hardware/industry board, opinions split over whether that price is fair for a remake with roots going back through the N64 and 3DS versions, with posters repeatedly comparing it to Sony-camp title “FF7 Liberation” at 9,980 yen (roughly 30,000 yen for the full trilogy) and to Nintendo’s own new “Yoshi” title at 8,000 yen. The debate split between critics who felt only the graphics had been overhauled while the content stayed the same, and those who praised the smoother controls and rearranged soundtrack — with disagreement even over whether a full playthrough takes about 20 hours or more like 30-40.

It's a remake, so of course it costs this much.
And it doesn't leave the story unfinished either — that's just normal.

Charging 9,000 yen for a mere remake?
    That's just pathetic.

    Re: #3
FF7 Liberation is ¥9,980, you know? And for PS players who bought it around launch, it's a trilogy, so that's about ¥30,000 total lol.
What do you make of that? On top of that, you can't even play Rebirth without a PS5… What a wild era we live in, huh?
    6AnonymousSep 9, 2026 00:04
Why does something that's basically just a graphics upgrade cost about 9,000 yen?
The fields are still just as cramped, and you still get load screens entering towns and villages — that doesn't even clear the bare minimum bar.

Same price as [Donkey Kong] Bananza and Kirby Air Riders.

    Re: #74
Well, Breath of the Wild itself was pretty unusual for a Zelda game.
Up until then, Zelda was all about dungeons as the main focus, with traversal as just an extra.
How you take that difference matters.

    Aaand there it is lol.
"The AI must be right" guy, lol.
Well, that number's probably just copied from walkthrough sites, but still.

The real average is more like 35 hours.
For VTubers and the like, the average is over 40 hours.
Even someone who's good at games and experienced, playing it for the first time, would normally take a good 30 hours, y'know? lol

Background and Key Points of This Debate

“Ocarina of Time” is a landmark entry in the Zelda series, originally released on the NINTENDO64 in 1998, and was remade for 3DS in 2011 as “Ocarina of Time 3D.” This new Switch 2 version appears to be built on that 3DS release with an updated graphics overhaul, and opinions on the thread split between those who felt it was “just the 3DS version looking even nicer” and those who argued that “the improved combat feel and rearranged soundtrack don’t come across unless you actually play it yourself.” The FF7 Remake brought up in price comparisons is structured as a trilogy continuing from the PS4 version, with the final installment not yet released — the three games together will run close to 30,000 yen. Without knowing this, it’s easy to misread the simple “FF7 is more/less expensive” comparisons; in reality, this is about the total cost of a split-release strategy, not a straightforward one-to-one price comparison. On playtime too, the estimates from walkthrough sites (roughly 20-30 hours) clashed with the felt playtime depending on how thoroughly one plays (30-40 hours), so the “time versus price” debate kept going with different posters working from different assumptions.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Takagishi and Sawai announced their marriage in October 2022, welcomed their first child in November 2024, and then on July 30, 2026, Takagishi announced their divorce on X. The “bruise” photo that sparked this discussion was posted by Sawai herself more than a month after the divorce was announced, and she has offered no explanation of how it happened. Opinions in the thread split into two camps: those who saw the photo and suspected domestic violence, and those criticizing the original article’s headline for being worded in a way that suggests DV beyond what the facts actually support. Some posts drew on unverified anecdotes from Takagishi’s school days to speculate about his character, but these are nothing more than unconfirmed rumors — it’s worth noting that no act of violence has been officially confirmed.

In Matchday 4 of La Liga on September 7 local time, Real Sociedad beat Elche away 3-2 despite having a man sent off. Kubo Takefusa was left out of the squad entirely for the first time this season, and Kenyan international Oyie Otieno, who took his place on the right flank, scored his first-ever La Liga goal. On 5ch, posters pointed to the stats showing Sociedad have actually done better with Kubo on the bench, alongside technical critiques that his dribbling isn’t translating into goals — opinions split over what’s behind his slump and where he might transfer next.

Sociedad took the lead in the 11th minute

In La Liga’s Matchday 4 clash held on September 7 local time, Real Sociedad, featuring Kubo Takefusa, played away against Elche.

With the out-of-form Kubo dropped from the starting lineup for the first time in two matches, Sociedad struck in the 11th minute — Otieno crashed home a powerful shot from a corner-kick sequence to open the scoring. The Kenyan international attacker, deputizing for the Japan international on the right side, delivered by netting his first La Liga goal.

    84AnonymousSep 9, 2026 07:24
    Re: #79
What's the point of offers that never actually go through?

Background and key points of this discussion

Kubo Takefusa joined Sociedad on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid in 2023 and has been a regular starter ever since, but this season he’s gone without a goal or assist so far. The ‘reinforcements needed’ comment referenced in the thread refers to an incident this summer where Kubo publicly called on the club to strengthen the squad, prompting captain Oyarzabal to fire back with a pointed remark that ‘everyone knows what Take’s personality is like.’ Because of this backstory, the comments in the thread mix in more than pure performance criticism — some posters push back against his transfer ambitions, even calling him a ‘traitor.’ On the transfer front, some point out that his contract with Real Madrid includes a buy-back clause, which makes an easy departure difficult. Whether his absence from the squad stems from World Cup fatigue or injury, or purely from a dip in form and technical issues, is left unconfirmed even in the original article, and opinion in the thread remains divided.

  • Former Manager Shinnosuke Abe Returns to the Giants, Back on the Field 4 Months After Resigning — 5ch: ‘Didn’t They Start Winning Once He Left?’

The Yomiuri Giants have announced that former manager Shinnosuke Abe will return to the team’s front line roughly four months after resigning. Abe stepped down as manager early in the season, and is now rejoining the club just as it has been picking up form in the late stages under interim skipper Shinji Hashigami. Reaction on 5ch was split: some posters were harsh, arguing “he clearly hasn’t reflected enough,” pointing out that his resignation came with a vow to quit drinking, while others welcomed the move as reinforcement for the Climax Series push, noting the team’s win rate against the Hanshin Tigers had dropped since Abe left.

    Don't come crying later.

    Background and Talking Points

Shinnosuke Abe took over as Giants manager in 2024 but resigned early this season, with coach Shinji Hashigami taking over the reins ever since. Reports at the time of his resignation said he showed contrition, including a vow to give up alcohol, and the thread’s jokes leaned heavily on that detail. As the quoted article notes, this “return” is believed to be more of an advisory role rather than Abe putting the uniform back on and calling the shots himself — though most of the thread’s reactions treated it simply as a “return to managing” without factoring that in, so the actual scope of his involvement will have to wait for an official announcement from the club. Posters also cited conflicting numbers for the team’s record under Hashigami, especially against the Tigers, so it’s best to check primary sources for the exact figures.

  • Ocarina of Time Remake Character Models Draw ‘Creepy’ Backlash — 5ch: ‘Needlessly Realistic and Gross’

Images of character models believed to be from a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were posted to 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Geha), sparking a wave of “creepy” and “gross” reactions. Many commenters pointed out that Link and Sheik’s proportions and textures lean toward a realistic, live-action style, comparing them unfavorably to the stylized, doll-like models from the Dragon Quest VII remake. Others praised the “high quality” of the work, and opinions split sharply over whether a stylized or realistic look is more desirable.

Background and Key Points of Debate

The thread doesn’t make clear where the images originated or whether an official remake announcement has even been made, and based on the material here alone it’s impossible to tell whether these are official assets or unofficial cuts. The central point of contention was the differing degree of stylization across series entries: some commenters championed a toon-style approach like Breath of the Wild, while others felt this model’s more realistic texturing fell into “uncanny valley” territory. Many comparisons were drawn to the visuals of the Dragon Quest VII remake and Final Fantasy, and it’s easy to miss on a quick read that even within Nintendo and Square Enix titles, the thread showed no consistent standard for judging graphical style.

  • Lottery’s ¥800 million jackpot ticket among ¥1 billion in unsold prizes that turn into “worthless paper” — 5ch: “I want a time machine so I can go back and buy them”

At the “Utsunomiya Bell Mall Chance Center” lottery shop in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture, the Summer Jumbo Premium’s ¥200 million first-prize preceding award was won — but in the same drawing group, the ¥800 million first-prize ticket and the ¥200 million first-prize following award (both “loose” single tickets) went unsold, forfeiting the right to claim them. Had all three sold, it would have added up to a combined ¥1 billion payout — the largest ever won at a lottery shop in Tochigi Prefecture. On 5ch, distrust of the drawing system itself clashed with voices simply chalking it up to probability.

It came to light by the 8th that at the “Utsunomiya Bell Mall Chance Center” lottery shop in Utsunomiya’s Youtou 6-chome, the ¥800 million first prize and the ¥200 million first-prize following award for the “Summer Jumbo Premium” — which debuted as the highest jumbo-lottery jackpot ever, with first prize plus preceding and following awards combining for ¥1.2 billion — had gone unsold. Since the shop did sell the ¥200 million first-prize preceding award, had all three tickets sold, it would have made for the largest total ever won at a lottery shop in Tochigi Prefecture. All three were “loose” single tickets, and shop staff showed a mix of shock and frustration.

Back when I was young I'd occasionally buy about ¥9,000 worth of just the Jumbo lottery.
Never won for real and eventually gave up — the best I ever got back in one go was two ¥10,000 tickets, a pretty pathetic result.
Also, maybe because it was a while back, but a clerk once tried to pretend one of my ¥10,000 winning tickets didn't exist. When I called them out on it, they gave this overly theatrical apology and handed over the cash.

This one just ends up going straight to the national treasury and that's that, but with Loto-type lotteries, unclaimed money rolls over and makes next time's jackpot super hype.
That's why you should be buying Loto 6 or Loto 7 instead of a regular lottery ticket.

    Re: #162
Exactly. Even on the anonymous lottery board, you never hear that kind of story.
I keep telling myself "I'll be the first!" and getting fired up, but my turn never seems to come.

Background and key points of this discussion

Lottery winning numbers are printed on the tickets in advance, and the drawing itself selects numbers without regard to whether they actually sold. Because of this system, it’s possible — if statistically unlikely — for high-value winning numbers to stay unsold all the way to the end, and this case, where the first-prize preceding award hit but the ¥800 million first prize and ¥200 million following award went unsold, is an extension of that same mechanism. Prize money tied to unsold tickets isn’t paid to anyone; instead it’s folded into the lottery’s proceeds, which are funneled toward public works and similar funding. The thread split between those who saw deliberate manipulation by the drawing machine or the operators, and those who chalked it up to simple probability — the latter camp pointing out that “there must be huge numbers of unsold tickets every single time.” What’s easy for readers to misread is that this story isn’t “proof of fraud” — it’s simply a case of bad luck where the preceding, main, and following prizes didn’t all sell at the same shop.

  • Why Doesn’t Ocarina of Time Go Open World? 5ch: “Not Even Close, It’s a Trash Game”

A thread on 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board heated up over whether an Ocarina of Time remake should go open world. It started with criticism that the original’s field areas are flat and empty, splitting posters into a cautious camp who argued that going open world would mean “it’s no longer Ocarina of Time,” and a reform camp who countered that bold remakes—like Resident Evil RE2 or the FF7 Remake—are what remakes are for. Concrete points also came up, like the two-part structure of switching between child and adult eras, loading between areas, and the sparse enemy placement in the field.

    W H Y
    8AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:19
That would stop being Ocarina of Time.

    Re: #8
Resident Evil's remake ditched tank controls and the fixed camera and got huge praise for it, so there's zero need to stick to the original's specs.

    Re: #10
So, did Resident Evil's remake become open world?
    16AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:27
    Re: #10
Isn't that just because the original was a trash game?
    14AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:23
    Re: #12
The point is that going open world doesn't necessarily mean it stops being Ocarina of Time.

So, did Resident Evil's remake become open world?
    27AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:31
Ocarina of Time is a remake, so even asking "why not make it open world" is dumb.
    29AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:32
    Re: #27
It's exactly because it's a remake that it should change from the original — if it's the same as the original, you might as well just play the original.
    30AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:32
I was genuinely shocked the field was left just as empty as the original, with barely any enemies.
    34AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:34
    Re: #30
Keeping it as empty as the original is just dumb, honestly.
Clear flaws like this really need to be properly redone.
    39AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:38
Give it a rest, you still going on about this?
If you make it open world it becomes a different game, so it's not a remake anymore, I keep telling you.

Don't let them wing it on vibes like they did with FF7.
    46AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:41
The Resident Evil remake thing is basically just turning painted backdrops into 3D, right?
Ocarina of Time already did that too.
Using that as an example to demand an open-world overhaul that changes the whole gameplay is off base — that's a completely different level of change.
    48AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:42
    Re: #46
The Resident Evil remake has no fixed camera or tank controls ("radio-control" style movement) — the gameplay itself changed completely.
    50AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:44
There's zero point making Ocarina of Time open world when the progression order is completely fixed.
    53AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:48
    Re: #50
Changing exactly that kind of original spec is what a remake is for.
    55AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:50
    Re: #53
So that's why they shot themselves in the foot turning an RPG into an action game, lol
    56AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:50
    Re: #53
And the result of that is the FF7 Remake.
    58AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:51
    >55,56,57
Just a reminder that RE2 changed a ton from the original and is a universally-praised masterpiece.
    62AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:52
    Re: #58
That's basically the level of doing two Ocarina of Time dungeons and calling it done — just picking up a key and opening a door.
The bar for getting praised is so low, lol
    60AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:51
To begin with, Breath of the Wild didn't go open world just because they wanted open world — open world just happened to be the best fit for what they wanted to express.
Demanding Ocarina of Time go open world is missing the point.
    65AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:55
    Re: #60
That basically means they wanted it to be open world though…
    64AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:55
Resident Evil, FF7, and Ocarina of Time were all born in the same era, but
Zelda is the one whose system is so complete it doesn't need a gameplay overhaul.
    66AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:56
    Re: #64
Ocarina of Time does need an overhaul too — playing it now, it feels dated.
It's sad that Capcom and Square Enix clearly got that, but only Nintendo didn't.
    84AnonymousSep 9, 2026 02:08
    Re: #64
Still, I think there's room to improve the puzzles and the controls.
I'd want the bow's stick-aim switched to gyro aim.
I'd also want jumping to be doable with a single button.
Though jumping would change the core gameplay, so if they want to keep changes to the content minimal,
that part might be a bit tricky.
    67AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:57
    Re: #66
    Huh?
Unlike Resident Evil and FF7, it's not dated at all.
    68AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:58
    Re: #67
Nintendo themselves must have thought it was dated too, since they added a jump-anywhere feature…
    72AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:59
    Re: #71
Lol, that's basically admitting Re: #67 was a lie.
    69AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:58
    Re: #66
Genuine question, but what specifically do you think needs fixing?
    73AnonymousSep 9, 2026 02:00
    Re: #69
Things like the loading between areas or how empty the field is — there's plenty that should be fixed…
    71AnonymousSep 9, 2026 01:59
    Re: #68
The only dated parts are that and the camera controls.
It's on a different level from trash games with tank controls and painted backdrop backgrounds.
    89AnonymousSep 9, 2026 02:12
I don't get what "two-part structure" even means.
    90AnonymousSep 9, 2026 02:14
    Re: #89
Not the whole game being open, but an open structure split into two parts, child and adult.

It doesn't have to be that way,
but if they did make it open world, that's what it would inevitably end up being.
    97AnonymousSep 9, 2026 03:06
Using fade-to-black transitions makes it easy to convey distance and time.
Open world has to express that through actual travel, which means you need to build huge connecting map areas.
They probably judged that would hurt the original's pacing.
    98AnonymousSep 9, 2026 03:09
    Re: #97
    More than that,
I think Nintendo just wanted to make the classic look pretty.
    Same with Star Fox —
they just want to do it with the best possible visuals right now.
There's probably no going further up from here anyway.
    105AnonymousSep 9, 2026 03:22
"We deliberately kept the loading screens, lol"
Why on earth would you do that
    109AnonymousSep 9, 2026 03:34
    Re: #105
Because in Ghost of Tsushima it loaded so fast you couldn't even read the tips.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The “Resident Evil RE2” remake was highly praised even after ditching the fixed camera and tank controls, while the “FF7” remake split opinion by shifting from turn-based to action combat — posters repeatedly cited these two as a yardstick for “how far bold changes should be allowed to go.” N64-era software tended to have simplified field areas due to hardware constraints, and the empty plains of Ocarina of Time, despite their size, were brought up as one example of this. On the other hand, going open world doesn’t just mean making things bigger — it means altering the original’s core structure itself, such as the fixed order of puzzle-solving or the child/adult switching mechanic. Where to draw the line between “improvement” and “turning it into a different game” is what split opinion, and that’s arguably the heart of this debate.
