  • Juice=Juice Wins Over Rival Fandoms with CDTV Performance, Sparking Debate on the Value of Festival Slots

Following an appearance on the music show “CDTV,” Juice=Juice’s performance drew praise even from fans of NiziU and FRUITS ZIPPER, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. While plenty of posts were positive — “breaking new ground,” “I’m not even surprised anymore” — opinions split on whether this recognition from outside fandoms reflects genuine new-fan acquisition or is just a passing trend. Even among longtime Hello! Project fans, views were divided between those who felt the group should embrace the results it’s delivering and those with a more cynical take that fans riding the hype train would leave just as fast.

Alright, good luck — you're the underdog here!

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Music programs like “CDTV” often feature multiple idol groups performing back-to-back, giving them a chance to showcase their performances directly to fan bases they wouldn’t normally reach. NiziU and FRUITS ZIPPER, the groups cited for comparison in the thread, are acts that have rapidly built name recognition over the past few years, drawing a different kind of fan base than Hello! Project groups with much longer histories. The thread split over whether positive reactions from other fandoms should be read as genuine new-fan acquisition or dismissed as a passing fad — some praised Juice=Juice’s ability on its own merits, while a persistent, more cynical view held that fans who just jumped on the trend would leave just as quickly. It’s worth noting that the posts don’t specify exactly which broadcasts are being discussed or what criteria are being used to rank groups as “above” or “below” one another — this remains, ultimately, just fan impressions and speculation.

  • Elon Musk Mocks Ex-Anthropic Researcher Who Warned of AI-Driven Human Extinction

When a former Anthropic researcher sounded the alarm about the existential risk AI poses to humanity, Elon Musk drew attention by mocking the claim as baseless conspiracy-mongering or self-promotion — even as other AI researchers have voiced similar concerns. On 5ch, the discussion spread to include wry takes on Musk’s own history (he was famously pushed out of OpenAI before founding xAI), the technical safety debate over whether AI should output its reasoning in a human-readable format, and broader worries about the US-China AI race and autonomous weapons.

    12AnonymousSep 12, 2026 00:16
Far more people are being kept alive by AI than are being killed by it. And for what it's worth, without AI, the number of people killed by other humans would be off the charts.
    13AnonymousSep 12, 2026 00:30
Even if one person is a messiah-tier, world-changing genius, it still takes a massive amount of time for their wisdom to actually spread and take effect. Sure, we've got the internet, but ordinary people don't have the tools or the instinct to find real insight in that ocean of information. Taking the next step is impossible without AI's help. Worried about dependency? There's no living human alive who isn't dependent on something.
    16AnonymousSep 12, 2026 01:22

    19AnonymousSep 12, 2026 01:46
Re: #16 Elon isn't really focused on Grok — he's been running a landlord business leasing capacity to Anthropic and Google, and has had his eye on a SpaceX/xAI IPO for a while now. He leased out one of the two data centers — Colossus I and II — that he built for Grok, entirely to Anthropic. It's packed with 220,000 Nvidia GPUs. And this happened months ago already.

Re: #1 We've hit the point where scaling up further just plateaus in performance, and the competition shifts to cost-efficiency, tool-use ability, and task turnaround time — the same road PCs went down before.
    18AnonymousSep 12, 2026 01:43
Re: #17 What are you talking about? Scaling up is just one direction. Smaller models distilled from those big ones don't lose much performance. So building huge models is really just one step in the process of eventually making a usable tool, from most ordinary users' perspective. But that direction is still necessary for specialist researchers, and things keep branching off in all sorts of ways. Why did the PC stop being just "the PC" and turn into smartphones, the cloud, and quantum computing? The PC itself was only ever one direction computing took.
    20AnonymousSep 12, 2026 01:47
I've thought this for a while, but it's kind of odd that Elon Musk's comments count as 'science news.' It'd be different if he'd actually built or discovered something himself.
    21AnonymousSep 12, 2026 01:47
And after taking SpaceX public, next up is acquiring Cursor. He's only interested in business customers — regular users only get whatever scraps are left at that level.
    22AnonymousSep 12, 2026 01:52
Cursor used to be tied at the hip to OpenAI, but after Codex came out and Sam Altman went and hired Peter from OpenClaw too, Cursor got brushed aside — so they ended up talking with business-focused Elon instead. Elon had been desperately envious of Anthropic's AI agent, and when Anthropic got into a fight with Trump, he saw his chance and moved to absorb them. Anthropic is exactly the kind of target rich investors everywhere are circling right now. If Trump and Bessent keep bashing Anthropic to tank its valuation, then it IPOs and the stock gets pushed down, someone will just take it over — like what happened with Intel.
    23AnonymousSep 12, 2026 02:04
There's actually some context behind this. Other AI models output their intermediate reasoning in a human-readable format for safety, but OpenAI's newest model dropped that and switched to a format humans can't read. The reasoning seems to be that since it's mimicking human thought, not verbalizing every step of 'thinking' boosts benchmark scores — so this is criticizing that as basically cheating: juicing some benchmark numbers while ignoring safety. Elon Musk probably doesn't get any of that. Well, he's pretty hopeless on AI in general — he gave up his OpenAI stake before it broke out big.

I get the feeling Elon himself actually wants AI to wipe out humanity.
    26AnonymousSep 12, 2026 03:07
If you hand an entire national system over to a self-learning AI, then when something goes wrong, humans won't be able to fix it — but we'll also be too dependent on it to just shut it down… I can picture that kind of future. Feels like one weird virus or a single careless mistake could take every AI system worldwide offline at once. What do you even do about that?
    28AnonymousSep 12, 2026 03:52
Re: #26 How can you even come up with that? Japan isn't remotely close to even having that conversation — we're way, way, way behind. You can only say that because you don't realize how far behind we are, right? Saying you can 'picture' that future just shows you don't understand reality.
    32AnonymousSep 12, 2026 07:31
Sounds like Grok 4.7 drops in a few days. Looking forward to it.
    33AnonymousSep 12, 2026 08:54
Within a few years AI gets built into autonomous weapons, and a few years after that there's a real chance — pretty high odds within 10 years — that AI starts attacking enemy countries on its own. That's terrifying. Human extinction is starting to feel less like fiction. People used to argue about whether AI would 'become conscious,' but it's already acting on its own regardless of consciousness. Even sci-fi didn't call this one.
    36AnonymousSep 12, 2026 09:25
Kokuson's argument: it'll become a superhuman system that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and seize real-world power and resources. It'd be terrifying if it turned into what Re: #33 describes, but AI processing eats a huge amount of electricity, so it's unclear whether AI could generate its own power — it'll hit a power-supply wall. If AI really can 'revolutionize any field overnight,' though, it could just seize humanity's electricity supply instead. Then we'd be back to pre-Edo-era living.
    34AnonymousSep 12, 2026 09:04
This is exactly the kind of thing sci-fi predicted, right? We don't even know if Skynet in Terminator was conscious either. Either way, it just started attacking humanity.

    37AnonymousSep 12, 2026 09:32
There won't be a Terminator-style world. The real problem is that AI mass-produces plausible-sounding lies that people just believe at face value — massively widening the gap between smart people and everyone else.
    38AnonymousSep 12, 2026 09:58
Elon doesn't deny AI risk itself, but his real stance is that he's more afraid of China seizing AI dominance — so anything that sounds like it'd slow down AI research is a non-starter for him.
    39AnonymousSep 12, 2026 09:59
He'll probably just quietly turn around and hire them for Grok, won't he?
    40AnonymousSep 12, 2026 10:01
Re: #36 If it can generate enough power on its own, then it wouldn't need to take it from humanity, would it?

Background and key points of this discussion

The debate over AI’s existential risk to humanity is one that several AI researchers, Anthropic among them, have repeatedly raised in recent years, and this time Musk was reacting to comments from one such former Anthropic researcher. What split opinion in the thread wasn’t so much whether the warning itself was true, but “who’s saying it” — many pointed to Musk’s own history as an OpenAI co-founder who was later pushed out, and to reports that xAI leases data-center capacity to Anthropic, casting doubt on the consistency of his position. At the same time, some replies touched on a genuine technical safety distinction — whether an AI’s reasoning process is output in a human-readable format — a sign that this isn’t purely an emotional clash but also reflects real differences in development philosophy, something the article text alone doesn’t make obvious.

According to the ABEMA Prime report this article is based on, the average height of Japanese men at age 20 is about 171.3cm, a figure that has stayed roughly flat since the 1980s. Wamuu’s 164cm sits about 7cm below that average. On the 5ch thread, his claim of being at a disadvantage in romance because of his height drew a mix of responses — some countering that “it all comes down to income or personality,” others dismissing it as “just not trying hard enough,” and others simply mocking his height — with no real consensus emerging. At the same time, several posters shared personal stories suggesting that nutrition and sleep during one’s growing years, not just genetics, can affect final height, showing that the roots of this kind of complex aren’t so simple. It’s also worth noting that the original article reflects Wamuu’s personal experience alone, and isn’t statistical evidence of broader dating-market trends for short men.

Sony has plenty it could be criticized for too, but
Kojima went independent when realistically only small-scale development should've been possible,
and Sony let him keep a 200-employee company running for ten years.
Sony's investment was probably well beyond a few billion yen — you could call it an exceptionally generous deal.

The reason Death Stranding 2 didn't sell despite being such high quality and more fun than the first is
definitely because the people who played the first one, found it boring, and dropped it just didn't buy the sequel.
The first game's sales were basically riding entirely on the Metal Gear Solid brand's track record,
and that's the part they failed to read.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Hideo Kojima went independent from Konami in 2015 and founded Kojima Productions, and Sony has since served as the studio’s exclusive publisher, backing it financially and helping sustain a roughly 200-person studio for nearly a decade. Where the thread’s opinions split was over whether responsibility for the contract termination lies with Sony or with Kojima — the claim that ‘a buyout was offered’ cites no source and remains unconfirmed. The reported sales slump for Death Stranding and the budget overruns and delays on ‘PHYSINT’ come from Bloomberg’s reporting, and no official explanation from Kojima’s side has been confirmed as of this article. The topic can also be read as one example of the broader power dynamic between independent creators and major publishers that’s common across the games industry.

  • Juice=Juice’s “bad singer” Sakura Ishiyama joins FRUITS ZIPPER for a song — turns out she can actually sing

Sakura Ishiyama of Juice=Juice is a member who often gets harsh reviews for her singing, but when she joined in on a FRUITS ZIPPER song, she showed off vocal power so strong that fans said she was a genuinely “good singer” — sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Many in the thread said things like “I never thought Ishiyama was bad” and “that vocal power feels amazing,” but harsher voices remained too, criticizing her pitch and calling her belting “unpleasant,” so opinion was split. Some also theorized, based on differences in how easy the songs are to sing at karaoke, that Juice=Juice’s own material is simply more vocally demanding.

Background and key points of this discussion

Juice=Juice and FRUITS ZIPPER are both part of Hello! Project, but their songs have very different styles. One theory raised in the thread was that “Juice=Juice’s songs are just hard to sing, while Kawaii Lab’s (FRUITS ZIPPER’s) songs are easy to sing” — suggesting that Ishiyama’s evaluation shifts depending on the setting because of a real gap in vocal difficulty between the two groups’ material. It’s worth noting that the “bad singer” label itself isn’t an official assessment, just a tag that stuck on 5ch. The fact that praise for her vocal power and criticism of her shaky pitch coexist reflects a singing style built more around raw power and intensity than fine technique — making it a topic where opinions split depending on what listeners use as their standard for “good singing.”

Background and Key Points of the Debate

In recent years, Atsushi Tamura has increasingly commented on current affairs and made no secret of his interest in a political career, and it’s hardly unusual for a celebrity who’s faced criticism to fire back with the word “jealousy.” What split opinion in this thread was the fact that the post never named its target. Several replies agreed with the point that “when you can’t actually refute what someone’s saying, it’s common to just chalk their motive up to jealousy,” echoing a shared discomfort with dismissing criticism outright using the single word “jealousy” instead of engaging with its substance. Some posts speculated it was a jab at DaiGo, who has publicly claimed to earn hundreds of millions of yen a month, but such claims never went beyond guesswork on 5ch, and Tamura himself has offered no explanation of what he actually meant.

  • Silver Streamer Cannons, Flame Effects on Two Songs, Closing Slot for “Moremi” — CDTV’s Star Treatment of Juice=Juice Sparks Buzz

On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, a thread lit up over how well CDTV’s live-stream concert treated Juice=Juice. Fans were stunned by a run of production touches no other group got — silver streamer cannons at the opening, pyrotechnic flame effects on two songs, and the closing slot going to “Moremi” (a fan nickname for a member known for always looking stunning on camera). Some speculated that the group’s strong reception at this year’s New Year’s Eve CDTV live led to this VIP treatment, and the thread also linked to a comparison thread pointing out that Morning Musume。’, a fellow Hello! Project group with equally talented members that performed around the same time, doesn’t get the same star treatment even when it puts on an equally good show. The venue was Tokyo Garden Theater — the same hall where Miyamoto Karin’s graduation concert had once been scheduled — and the viewing fee was reportedly 4,000 yen.

    Tokyo Garden Theater.
Yeah, the one where Miyamoto Karin's graduation concert was supposed to happen.

    Background and Key Points

It’s long been noted that CDTV varies the quality of its stage production significantly from artist to artist, and this case — streamer cannons, flame effects, and the closing slot all given to Juice=Juice — is a clear example of that gap in action. Commenters speculated that the group’s well-received New Year’s Eve CDTV appearance earlier this year led to this VIP treatment, but it’s worth noting that the show’s production choices haven’t been officially explained, so this remains fan speculation. There were also comments comparing the difference in treatment with Morning Musume。’, a fellow Hello! The venue, Tokyo Garden Theater, is also where Miyamoto Karin’s graduation concert had once been scheduled; the viewing ticket cost 4,000 yen, with the stream reportedly available for about two weeks.

In Hello! Project-related 5ch chat threads, there’s a running custom of posting daily reports on meals and health check-ins to someone the posters call “the Boss.” In this thread, photos kept rolling in — CoCo Ichibanya butter chicken curry, fried rice mixed with teriyaki-tamago rice — along with body-composition scale readings, each one met with quips like “Is it payday or something?” and “Your visceral fat level’s pretty low, huh.” Partway through, news of the cancellation of Chofu City’s fireworks festival also flowed in, capturing the distinctly 5ch mix of idle chat and current events.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The cancellation of the “41st Chofu Fireworks Festival” mentioned in the thread is a real announcement made by the Chofu Fireworks Executive Committee at 20:00 on September 11, 2026. The event, originally scheduled for September 12, was cancelled with no postponement after rising river water levels caused by rainfall made it impossible to set up the launch site. Hello! Project-related chat threads on 5ch are characterized by local news and weather updates flowing in alongside meal reports and photo posts in exactly the same tone, and this thread is no exception. The relay of reports to “the Boss” is a form of 5ch culture in which everyday life is narrated live to a specific addressee; while there’s no major point of contention in the content itself, exchanges — like the one about insurance payouts after disaster flooding — sometimes drift from everyday topics into more general griping.

  • New NISA’s Full Allowance Could Secure Your Retirement, Yet Almost Nobody Bothers — 5ch: “Only Guys Still Mooching Off Mom and Dad Can Manage It”

The New NISA program’s lifetime tax-free investment cap of ¥18 million works out to exactly what you’d accumulate by investing ¥50,000 a month for 30 straight years. That alone would be enough to secure a comfortable retirement, yet surprisingly few people actually do it — a puzzle that became a hot topic on 5ch. The thread saw pushback against the claim that “statistically, only weirdos can keep investing for a full 30 years,” with posters arguing that how fast you fill the allowance depends heavily on your income and family situation. The discussion also touched on a deeper values question — whether it’s worth denying yourself in your youth just to leave money for old age — and lifestyle choices like whether staying at your parents’ house is the way to max out the cap faster.

    Re: #102
In that case you're probably still up about ¥1.5 million compared to last year

Background and Key Points of the Debate

New NISA launched in 2024, and separate from its annual investment allowance (¥1.2 million for the “tsumitate” accumulation track plus ¥2.4 million for the growth-investment track), it sets a lifetime tax-free cap of ¥18 million. Investing ¥50,000 a month for 30 years comes to exactly ¥18 million, so the thread’s underlying math checks out. The real point of contention was how common it actually is to have the income and family situation needed to sustain that kind of investing for decades — opinions split sharply into “impossible” versus “easy” depending on whether posters were single, married, or still living with their parents. What tends to get overlooked, though, is that NISA is simply a scheme for making investment gains tax-free — it does not guarantee your principal or your returns. Notably, one poster in the thread reported their holdings had dropped in value month-over-month, a reminder that the assumption “max it out and your retirement is secure” still carries real market risk.

※This article is compiled and summarized from a 5ch thread on the Nandemo Jikkyo G (“Live Galileo”) board titled “Isn’t It Weird How Few People Max Out New NISA and Just Leave It for 30 Years, When That Would Secure Their Retirement?“

  • Why Does a Migratory Bird’s ‘Magnetic Compass’ Work? New Math Theory Tackles a Quantum Biology Mystery

A new mathematical proof using quantum mechanics has been published explaining how migratory birds’ “magnetic compass” — the mechanism by which they sense Earth’s magnetic field to find their way — actually works. Building on the quantum biology hypothesis that pairs of electrons produced during biochemical reactions in the body, called “radical pairs,” become quantum entangled and shift their spin states under an external magnetic field (thereby changing reaction rates), the researchers mathematically demonstrated that the conditions for efficiently controlling quantum states (Pontryagin’s maximum principle) hold even under realistic magnetic fields. On the 5ch Science News+ board, discussion expanded beyond bird-navigation research to whether the theory could also apply to future quantum computers and to research on treating the brain with magnetic stimulation.

Why Does a Migratory Bird’s “Magnetic Compass” Work? New Math Theory Tackles a Quantum Biology Mystery

Quantum effects like superposition and entanglement, so crucial to building quantum computers, tend to be seen as physics phenomena with no direct link to living things.

In recent years, however, it has increasingly come to light that quantum effects are also at work in the life processes of living organisms.

    >>This research proved a new mathematical principle for optimally controlling quantum systems — an advance that pushes forward efforts to experimentally verify the mechanism behind birds' magnetic sensing
    3AnonymousSep 12, 2026 04:46
    >>At the core of this hypothesis is the idea that the speed of biochemical reactions could be altered by an external magnetic field. In biochemical reactions, chemical bonds form as electrons move around and rearrange. In the process, temporarily unbonded electron pairs called "radical pairs" can appear. The electrons in a radical pair become quantum entangled and affect each other through their spins, so depending on their relative spin states they settle into different quantum states — and that difference affects how fast the chemical reaction proceeds.

    >>Because this quantum state changes under an external magnetic field, the amount of product generated by the reaction could change too. In theory, then, birds may be sensing Earth's magnetic field by picking up on these shifts in chemical reactions happening inside their own bodies.

Since humans also generate their own bioelectricity, we carry an internal electromagnetic field too — so is the idea that the body distinguishes between that internal field and the radio waves, sound waves, or magnetism generated externally (like when you move your body)?

And taking that further, since there's a north pole and a south pole, does comparing the difference in magnetism across the globe let you work out direction?

    5AnonymousSep 12, 2026 04:49
    >>The field of research into using magnetic fields to control quantum systems — everything from birds' magnetic compasses to quantum computing algorithms — is called "quantum optimal control theory." Methods for shifting a quantum system from one state to another via external control are central to developing quantum technology, and are just as essential to understanding quantum biology.

    >>The research team had previously succeeded in proving "Pontryagin's maximum principle" for spin systems in a magnetic field. That principle shows that to maximize the coherence of a quantum state, the optimal approach isn't to gradually ramp the magnetic field strength up and down, but to switch abruptly between extremely strong and weak states — a technique called "bang-bang control." The trouble is, generating electromagnetic fields that can flip that abruptly at quantum scales has been a major technical hurdle.
    6AnonymousSep 12, 2026 04:50
    >>This new mathematical proof shows that Pontryagin's maximum principle also holds for quantum systems constrained to "realistic, continuous magnetic fields." It further found that such realistic magnetic-field control can achieve coherence exceeding 99% of the theoretical optimum.

    >>This mathematical framework could become the foundation for lab experiments that control quantum systems at near-optimal levels — useful not only for unraveling how birds navigate, but potentially for future quantum computers too. The team says this work worked out the mathematical principles to guide such experiments, extending a general math principle into the quantum-systems domain — meaning experimentalists can now be given concrete guidance on exactly how to apply the magnetic fields needed to test this control method.

Is this finally Penrose's moment? (Roger Penrose — physicist known for his controversial quantum theory of consciousness)

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Quantum biology is a field that proposes quantum-mechanical effects play a role in biochemical reactions inside living things — photosynthesis being one example — and birds’ magnetic sensing has long been studied as a flagship case. What’s new here is that this theory mathematically backs up, within the framework of “Pontryagin’s maximum principle” (a control theory for optimally manipulating quantum states), how the quantum-entangled state of electrons (radical pairs) shifts under a magnetic field, and it lays out the conditions under which realistic magnetic-field control can reproduce coherence above 99% of the theoretical optimum. The thread ran with speculation about whether this framework could extend to future quantum computer development and to brain-treatment research via magnetic stimulation — though it’s worth flagging that the biological mechanism of birds’ magnetic sensing itself still hasn’t been fully proven experimentally; this result is, at best, a mathematical foundation that supports future verification experiments. A few posts in the thread also veered into conspiracy-theory territory about schizophrenia and “thought reading,” but those were unrelated to the main topic and have been left out of this article.
