  • No Foul for Ogawa’s Shirt-Yank on a Teen — Same Play Gets a Yellow Card Minutes Later, Fans Slam the Officiating

Machida Zelvia’s Japan international forward Koki Ogawa yanked 16-year-old midfielder Makoto Mitsudera down by the back of his jersey in the 21st minute of the second half of the match against Yokohama F. Marinos (September 12, National Stadium), but no foul was called and play continued. Right after the match ended in a 1-1 draw, Yokohama FM forward Yuki Kondo was shown a yellow card for pulling Yuki Soma’s shirt — and the inconsistency in officiating standards became a hot topic on social media. On 5channel, many said “It’s not Ogawa’s fault, it’s the referee’s fault for not blowing the whistle,” while others criticized the play itself as “dirty” and “embarrassing for a national team player,” leaving opinion split.

A single play by Machida Zelvia’s Japan international forward Koki Ogawa (29) during the match against Yokohama F. Marinos (September 12, MUFG National Stadium) has drawn attention on social media.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but the incident happened in the 21st minute of the second half, while Yokohama FM led 1-0. Ogawa grabbed the shirt of opposing midfielder Makoto Mitsudera (16) from behind and pulled him down. Mitsudera appealed for a foul, but play continued as normal.

Immediately after, Yokohama FM forward Yuki Kondo was shown a yellow card for pulling midfielder Yuki Soma’s shirt, which put Ogawa’s earlier action even more in the spotlight. Comments flooded social media questioning the officiating, including “How is that not a foul?” and “There’s no way that yellow for Kondo makes sense — if that’s a card, why wasn’t Ogawa carded for doing the same thing moments earlier?”

    Reasons soccer is boring

    0-0 drags on forever
No shots at all, just endless passing
    No intricate strategy like baseball
Guys flop dramatically without even being touched
Snitching to the ref to get an opponent sent off
Violence when the ref isn't looking
A national team player pulling a 16-year-old's shirt when the ref isn't looking
Soccer fans have low manners too

Why is soccer so soft on shirt-pulling?
    23AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:28
    Re: #7
It's not soft on it — it literally says a yellow was given.
Ogawa's just got overlooked because it happened away from the ball.
If that had happened inside the box, VAR would've caught it and it'd have been a penalty.

Taking out a player who might get involved in a scoring chance, away from the ball — that's basically Machida's, or really coach Kuroda's, go-to move.

It's just bad because the referee isn't consistent.
Ogawa's play wasn't clean either, but it's not really worth criticizing him for.

this time it just happened not to be called a foul —

This one's on Ogawa doing the obvious thing.
Of course you stop the play even if it means risking a foul.

The one at fault is the referee who didn't call it.
    50AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:06
Of course you pull a shirt sometimes — that's just how it goes.
If you can't handle that, you won't make it on the world stage.
If anything, the rest of the world is way tougher than this.
What exactly are people trying to coddle here?
Keep it up and you'll stunt players who could actually grow.

Everyone makes a big deal about referee quality,
but honestly, low-quality fans getting in the way of a player's growth is the bigger problem.
    51AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:07
Ogawa stopped the play knowing he might get a yellow for it.
For some reason the ref just didn't call a foul.

    Re: #67
He gave a college player the same treatment too.
    Except they lost that one.
And then made excuses about it on top of that.

Background and Key Points of Debate

In soccer, pulling an opponent’s shirt to stop their movement is known as a “professional foul,” and if it denies a clear goal-scoring opportunity it can result in a red card — but minor contact in an area unrelated to the ball is often waved off at the referee’s discretion. Since this incident happened outside the penalty area, it wasn’t subject to VAR review either. On the thread, the main point of contention isn’t “Ogawa’s personal conduct” so much as the fact that the standard for calling fouls shifted within the same match. Some comments also brought up frustrations with Machida’s tactics and past conduct, but that’s a separate issue from this specific play and should be read apart from the facts of the article itself. Also worth noting: Mitsudera’s age of 16 is mentioned in comments to emphasize how bad the foul looks, but the play itself is the kind of foul that could happen to a player of any age.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Soccer] Machida’s Koki Ogawa causes a stir by pulling 16-year-old Makoto Mitsudera’s shirt — questions over the officiating, some disappointment too.”

  • If “Chiikawa” Got a Video Game? 5ch: “It’d Turn Out Like FromSoftware or Capcom”

A poster on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry” (Geha) board started a thread hoping to cash in by turning the popular character Chiikawa into a video game, asking others to help figure out a suitable genre and developer. Replies were split on how to capture the original’s “poison” — some pitched a Mystery Dungeon-style roguelike or an MMO, others wanted a Pikmin-style game where the characters are treated as expendable, and others imagined a FromSoftware- or Capcom-style action game with brutally unfair deaths. Suggested developers included Furyu, Nintendo, and Bandai, and some replies pointed out that a game called “Chiikawa Pocket” already exists.

People on Geha really do have tunnel vision — I bet most of them are running their mouths without even knowing that exists.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Chiikawa is a character created by Nagano, and a hugely popular IP with a steady stream of merchandise and collaborations. The thread began as a playful thought experiment — not a live-action adaptation, but a hypothetical video game — and opinions diverged over how to translate the original’s signature blend of “cuteness” and “unreasonably brutal death” into gameplay. The popularity of Pikmin-style expendable-character concepts and roguelite pitches reflects the source material’s habit of putting its characters through terrible ordeals. At the same time, some replies pointed to the practical hurdles of actually pulling off such a project — negotiating rights with Nagano, coordinating with developers and sponsors — offering a glimpse of real-world game production difficulties even in what was ultimately a fantasy thread. As noted in the thread itself, a mobile game called “Chiikawa Pocket” is, in fact, already available.

Even 'MER,' which also gets called Super Sentai-esque and whose own production team openly calls it a hero show, is way better than this.

The teaser made it sound like this episode would wrap up the first half, so I was watching thinking the rescue would succeed and the second half would kick off in October. But then — huh, only 20 minutes left, are they going to make it? 10 minutes left… wait, this is where it ends?! Left me feeling pretty unsatisfied…

It's just Otokojuku style, I guess. (a nod to the absurdly over-the-top manga 'Sakigake!! Otokojuku,' known for ridiculous not-dead-after-all twists)

    Background and points of debate

“VIVANT” is a popular entry in TBS’s Sunday Theater lineup, and season 2 has drawn just as much attention as the original. The hiatus announcement, however, brought a wave of reactions along the lines of “that’s fewer episodes than I expected.” Opinions in the thread split over the show’s pacing: some viewers see it as careful, deliberate storytelling, while many others feel the rescue operation and the reunion with Kurosu are dragging on too long. Several posts speculated the story would wrap up with a theatrical film, but that’s purely fan speculation — the article itself makes no mention of any sequel or movie in production. The hiatus itself is due to Asian Games coverage, and the finale is confirmed within the show to air on November 8th.

※This article was compiled by excerpting and summarizing the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[TV] “VIVANT” — At the end of the show, Masato Sakai drops a shocking announcement, “I can’t take it”: a storm of anguished cries on X… Also touches on the finale: “November 8th is the final episode. Six more to go.”.”

  • Tatsunori Hara Lent Shigenobu Shinnosuke His Ferrari — His Car Collection Becomes a Hot Topic

Shinnosuke Shigenobu, who played for the Yomiuri Giants and retired at the end of last season, appeared on a TOKYO FM radio program and revealed that Tatsunori Hara (now a senior advisor in the Giants’ front office) had lent him his Ferrari to drive. Hara reportedly even handed over the key to his garage. On 5channel, the story took off, with users piling on details about Hara owning several other luxury cars besides the Ferrari — including a Mercedes-Benz S-Class and a Lexus LS — plus one gift anecdote after another about his generosity toward other players. Meanwhile, plenty of posts couldn’t resist comparing him to his successor as manager, Shinnosuke Abe.

The guest was former Giants player turned entrepreneur Shinnosuke Shigenobu (33), who also retired at the end of last season. The episode revealed the almost unbelievable generosity and deep affection for his players shown by former Giants manager Tatsunori Hara (68).
At a listener's request, Shigenobu shared his memories of Hara.
"Well… honestly, to me he's just this 'THE commander'-type figure…," Shigenobu said.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Tatsunori Hara has long been known for “big-hearted guy” anecdotes dating back to his playing days, with stories about advice he gave Kazuma Okamoto and gifts he gave Kazuki Akihiro repeatedly making headlines. Meanwhile, Shinnosuke Abe, who succeeded him as manager, is frequently talked about for his strict coaching style, and the thread was full of posts comparing how the two men treat their subordinates — but it’s worth keeping in mind these comparisons are based on hearsay and thread-level impressions, and may not reflect how each man actually manages in practice. The thread also references a past incident in which Hara was reportedly asked for cash by individuals connected to organized crime; it’s worth knowing that the courts recognized Hara as the victim of extortion in that case, since without that context the story is easy to misread.

  • Japan Basketball Crushed by Korea 83-100, Squeaks Through as Runner-Up — 5ch: “Korea’s Playing for Real to Dodge Military Service”

In the final match of Group A of the men’s basketball preliminary round at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Japan lost to Korea 83-100, finishing the first round in second place with a 2-1 record. Korea went 3-0 to top the group. Reactions on 5ch pointed out that Japan’s squad was built around young players rather than the full national team, and that for Korea, winning a medal at the Asian Games exempts athletes from mandatory military service — meaning they field serious lineups across every sport. Users also compared this to Japan’s strong showing in other sports like volleyball, and discussion touched on the nationality and backgrounds of national team players.

Korea topped the group with a perfect 3-0 record. The quarterfinals will be held on the 16th.

    Re: #72
In basketball, plenty of countries besides Korea send their full A-squad and go all in
Japan's using it as a development ground for young players though

Background and key points of this discussion

South Korea has a system that exempts athletes from mandatory military service for strong results at events like the Asian Games or the Olympics — a topic that often comes up around baseball and soccer — and basketball falls under this system too, with the team this time believed to be fielding its core players. Meanwhile, the view within the thread was that Japan’s roster, separate from its full national team, was centered on players from the development pipeline. It’s also worth noting that a post claiming “Korea’s team is all pure-blooded Koreans” was corrected by another reply citing the presence of mixed-race players on the roster, so it’s not as simple a picture as it might seem. There was also a comment noting that Japanese basketball currently ranks around 7th in Asia, suggesting it would be premature to draw broad conclusions about the overall skill gap from this one result against Korea.

  • Father-in-law ‘sharpens’ Damascus steel knife with a power tool, 5ch: ‘That pattern’s just printed on’

An episode posted on X became a hot topic on 5ch: a poster wrote that his father-in-law, insisting his wife’s beloved Damascus steel knife “wasn’t cutting well, so I had it sharpened,” took it to an acquaintance’s house and ran it through a power tool. Reports that the blade ended up looking chipped and jagged first drew a wave of comments pointing out that the knife probably wasn’t real Damascus steel to begin with — just a knife with the pattern printed on. From there the discussion expanded into a debate over whether a sharpener or a whetstone is the correct way to sharpen a blade, and even into historical arguments about whether samurai sharpened their own swords. What started as a small domestic incident spiraled into a full-blown debate about bladed tools.

I cut vegetables with factory machines for a living, and when the blade gets dull, the part-time lady (BBA, slang for an older woman) calls some old guy nearby to sharpen it with an angle grinder. I don't think it's actually getting any sharper, but she seems satisfied with it, so I just leave her to it.
    20AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:51
People used to say Damascus steel and old Japanese swords were impossible to replicate, but materials science has since figured out it's just steel and soft iron imperfectly bonded in many layers at a temperature below melting point. So aside from antique value, there's nothing to be all that impressed by. Obviously modern alloy steel is superior anyway.

Old man vs. old man, duking it out.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Commercially sold “Damascus knives” are often something quite different from genuine Damascus steel, which gets its wavy pattern from forge-welding many layers of steel and soft iron together. Cheaper products are mostly stainless steel knives whose surface has simply been laser-etched or acid-etched to reproduce the pattern, and many commenters on the thread agreed with the remark that it’s “just printed on.” Meanwhile, the discussion around blade sharpening grew from practical questions — the difference between a household sharpener and a whetstone, and whether it’s appropriate to grind a blade with a power tool (angle grinder) — into a historical debate over whether Japanese swords were handled only by professional sharpeners. No comments cited actual historical sources on this point, and opinions within the thread stayed divided without reaching a conclusion. One point readers can easily get wrong is that the name “Damascus” refers to the pattern, not a guarantee of the steel’s grade — so judging sharpness by price or brand alone would be premature.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “X user: ‘My wife’s beloved Damascus steel knife. My father-in-law apparently had it sharpened, saying it wasn’t cutting well, using a power tool at an acquaintance’s house.’“

  • Why Do AI-Generated Food Photos Creep People Out? 5ch: ‘Too Uniform, Too Unnatural’

At a night market in Los Angeles, more and more food stalls are reportedly using AI-generated images for their menu photos. CNN reported that customers described the results as feeling off — “too perfect, almost rubbery.” On 5ch, users posted numerous examples of AI-generated food images, pointing out issues like overly uniform textures, unnatural angles, and a lack of steam. Others pushed back, arguing “AI itself isn’t the problem — it’s on whoever approved these images without checking them,” splitting opinion over whether to blame the technology itself or the businesses using it.

(CNN) The menu photos lining food stalls at a night market in Hollywood look real at first glance — mountains of fries, taquitos, smoothies. But Adaeze Onyejekwe, 28, a Los Angeles resident who visited in late August, said that on closer inspection they looked too perfect, almost rubbery. “It didn’t look like chicken nuggets. It didn’t look like the food I normally eat,” she said.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

AI-generated images are said to trigger an “uncanny valley” reaction because their textures and shading are too uniform, straying from the natural variation people expect from real food based on experience. Thread commenters repeatedly pointed out unnatural details — the absence of steam, noodle thickness, and how light falls on the food. Opinion split over whether to blame the AI technology itself or the businesses that used the images without properly checking them, with AI defenders emphasizing the latter. Some also noted that while AI excels at reproducing existing dishes, it tends to fall apart more with restaurant-original new menu items, which have little training data to draw on — suggesting real limitations remain for its use in advertising photography. In compiling this article, replies disputing the authenticity of an unrelated disaster photo and exchanges that veered into sexual content were excluded.

  • Coach Moriyasu: ‘September/October squad will basically be the World Cup lineup’ — plans to call up Itakura too

Japan national team coach Hajime Moriyasu spoke to reporters on the 13th after scouting the Urawa–Okayama match at Saitama Stadium, saying that the squad for the September/October series would “basically be the same members selected for the World Cup.” His reasoning: only two and a half months have passed since the World Cup ended, so dramatic changes in that time seem unlikely. He also said he intends to call up Ko Itakura, who is reportedly leaning toward declining his Asian Cup selection, saying “I’m thinking of calling him up.” In the 5ch Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ thread, while some voiced frustration at the continued reliance on the same faces, others questioned the consistency of the selection criteria and expressed concern over the thin pool of goalkeeper and captain candidates.

Japan national team coach Hajime Moriyasu spoke to reporters after scouting the Urawa–Okayama match at Saitama Stadium on the 13th, saying of the September/October activities: “I think it’ll basically be the members we picked for the World Cup. Because it’s only been a few months since the World Cup ended. Over two and a half months — how dramatically can things really change? I want to watch how the J.League season and the openings of the overseas leagues go, and call up whichever players suit the team. Looking at it neutrally, I want to build the team factoring in both who’s best right now and who fits where we’re heading in the future.”

Well, I don't think there's much difference in ability either way.

Background and key points of this discussion

The Asian Cup falls outside FIFA’s official international match dates, so call-ups for Europe-based players are heavily subject to their clubs’ circumstances — regardless of a player’s own wishes, he may be forced to withdraw if his club won’t release him. Itakura’s reported “intention to decline” may be tied to this same kind of situation. Where opinion split in the thread was over whether Moriyasu is right not to shake up the lineup much so soon after the World Cup. Some criticized the continued reliance on the same “usual crew” (itsumen) as unimaginative, while others defended it, arguing that demanding dramatic change just two and a half months after the World Cup is asking too much. There was also concern about the consistency of the selection criteria and the thin pool of goalkeeper and captain candidates.

A thread titled ‘Online Drinking Party’ popped up on Japan’s 5ch VIP board, where anonymous posters chatted away while sharing everything from their drink and cigarette brands to MBTI test results and photos of their own fan art and figure photography. The conversation had no fixed theme, ranging freely from guessing each other’s MBTI types to a liquor brand that had reportedly come back into stock after a supply gap, to how rough everyone felt the morning after overdoing it. Opinions on MBTI itself were split, with some calling it ‘fun as a conversation topic’ while others kept their distance, comparing it to ‘blood-type fortune-telling’ or chalking it up to the Barnum effect — reflecting a broader gap in how seriously people take their results.

I've been living my life thinking I was an introvert, though
Once I fall for someone I go all in! I just end up coming on way too strong because I like them so much!

This site's got a bunch of fun tests, wanna try this one too?

I always pictured 'Romance Monster' as the bubbly, peppy type
Got a pretty middling score on the extrovert scale, though

Right in the middle — an 'ambivert,' I guess (a joking in-between of the slang terms for 'extrovert' and 'introvert')

Can't remember the title or the artist's name, though

    Background and Talking Points

MBTI (the 16-type personality test) has become a well-established topic on Japanese online forums in recent years, and this thread naturally fell into a rhythm of posters showing off their results. That said, the test is ultimately just a self-reported questionnaire, not a measure with established psychological validity. The thread captured both skeptical takes — comparing it to ‘blood-type fortune-telling’ or chalking it up to the Barnum effect — and enthusiastic ones calling it ‘a fun conversation topic,’ illustrating how this kind of personality test tends to get consumed online. It’s also worth noting that ‘Online Drinking Party’ threads pop up periodically on 5ch’s VIP board as a kind of recurring tradition, where anonymous posters chat about drinks, hobbies, and their own artwork.

  • New Idolmaster Title Confirmed in Development for Switch 2 — 5ch Cheers: ‘Glad It’s a One-Time Purchase’

News broke on social media that a new title in the Idolmaster series is in development, sparking a thread on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry board (Geha). Some posters speculated that “the announcement was made independently rather than during a Nintendo Direct because development has only just started.” Given the persistent demand for handheld consoles in the otome game market, many in the thread argued there’s “no real option besides Switch/Switch 2,” while others were more skeptical, saying things like “only the flagship titles actually sell” and “it’s always the minor titles that get dumped on Switch” — a mix of anticipation and doubt.

Weird that they didn't announce this at a Nintendo Direct
    10AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:08
    Re: #5
Maybe it's just a 'development has started' notice, so it's too early to save for a Direct?
    9AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:08
Well if it's aimed at women, Switch is really the only option
    12AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:09
Lots of tweets saying they're happy it's a one-time purchase, not some gacha cash grab
    14AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:10
Switch has plenty of female users and otome game fans, so this should sell
    16AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:10
Otome games pop up near the top of the digital sales charts pretty often, so there's clearly demand
    19AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:12
Yeah, if it's an otome game, Switch 2 is really the only choice
    20AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:12
Guess even Bandai Namco doesn't feel obligated to otome games anymore
Though they'll probably still put out a mobile version
    21AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:12
Wish they'd hurry up and port the older Idolmaster games to Switch already
    23AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:12
    Wait, that's a guy
    Are they messing with us?

    Re: #23-24
The reasons SideM gets hate: (1) the character designs are mediocre (wish they'd had a female artist do them), (2) the voice acting for the elementary-school-age group 'Mofumofuen' is lackluster (would've preferred female voice actors), and (3) it keeps crossing over with the female-idol side of Idolmaster (if they're going to do crossovers, keep them within SideM).
    25AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:13
Back in the day Vita was the ultimate otome game console
But dumbass Sony abandoned its customers, so Nintendo swooped in and scooped them all up

    Re: #25
Wonder why the 3DS never became the go-to console for otome games
    26AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:13
Just do the usual thing, right? The rhythm game ("ongee," likely shorthand for onge/音ゲー)?
    39AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:17
Even compared to otome-adjacent titles like Touken Ranbu or Tokimeki Memorial, this is way too late
There was never any option besides Switch
Guess 'Kutaragi Jr.'s' influence (a jab at Sony/PlayStation leadership) is fading
    105AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:53
    Re: #39
The fact that it's not being developed by Bandai Namco Studios suggests they're still deferring to SIE (Sony)

Not really any different from Persona 6 though

Oh, so they're not even an ally anymore
If anything, they're the enemy now
    76AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:31
Vita used to be the home for these kinds of games
Guess now that role belongs to Switch and Switch 2
    77AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:32
    Re: #76
There weren't really any users for it, so it was never a 'home' for anything
    86AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:34
So it's coming out on Switch 2
I figured games like this would keep releasing only on the old hardware for a while even after the next-gen console launched
    90AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:36
    Re: #86
Because they can't stay on the original Switch forever — they need to make the transition
    88AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:35
Haven't heard the Idolmaster name in a while
    96AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:45
    Re: #88
The previous title was a multiplatform PS4/Steam release in 2021
First week sales were 15,597 units

Here we go again — only the titles that don't sell get dumped on Switch

Handhelds are valued for games aimed at women because you can play without family members seeing the screen
    102AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:50
    Re: #97
Same goes for gal games (dating sims aimed at men), honestly
    108AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:56
    Re: #106
I heard male characters vary too much in build, which makes it hard to design shared outfits for them
    114AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:09
    Re: #108
That's just as true for the female idols too — they range from like 130cm to 180cm

    Background and Key Points

What was reported this time appears to be an announcement that development has begun, not a confirmed release — details on the release date and supported hardware were not yet finalized as of this thread. In the otome game market, handheld consoles have historically been preferred because players don’t want people around them seeing the screen; PS Vita used to fill that role, and several posters in the thread argued that since Vita’s discontinuation, the Nintendo Switch family has taken over that position. The Idolmaster franchise also has a main series centered on female idols and a spin-off series centered on male idols, and fan expectations are divided depending on which direction this new title ends up taking.
