Matsuko Deluxe slams people who Uber Eats even café drinks: “I just don’t get it”

The story

On the October 30 broadcast of “Matsuko & Ariyoshi’s Temporary Paradise,” Matsuko Deluxe voiced discomfort with people who order even a single cup of café-style coffee through a delivery app, and Ariyoshi Hiroiki agreed, saying “Same here.” Reaction on 5ch split over the remark, weighing delivery workers’ livelihoods against where to draw the line on what’s appropriate to order — “just buy your own water” clashed with “no need to shame a little indulgence.”

Matsuko Deluxe fiercely slams people who Uber everything: “I could never like that! They should just go broke!”

Personality Matsuko Deluxe appeared on the October 30 two-hour special of TV Asahi’s “Matsuko & Ariyoshi’s Temporary Paradise.” She vented frustration over food delivery services, and co-star Ariyoshi Hiroiki strongly agreed.

The talk turned to how unbelievable it is that some people camp out at cafés for hours, with Ariyoshi shaking his head: “You could just take it to go, you know. Delivery riders keep showing up nonstop going ‘Uber Eats, here!’”

I always pictured Matsuko as someone who never sets foot outside and lives purely on delivery food — guess that's wrong.

Re: #4
Exactly, once you're using the service at all, ordering 1 item or 10 doesn't make much difference.
95AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:15
Re: #4
The word "café" is the key part
That's the whole point
for her.
6AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:12
Delivery drivers and store staff sometimes seem super tense with each other — what's that about?
92AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:11
Re: #6
Haha, yeah, I get that.
15AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:16
Crazy that a single order can get a whole person moving for you.
25AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:25
Re: #15
The rider isn't a slave, he chose that job himself,
so I don't really see the problem.
16AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:17
I once had water delivered from a convenience store within walking distance —
the driver actually walked it over.
29AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:26
Re: #16
Maybe they had the flu or COVID or something.
Probably.
18AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:19
Matsuko's pickiness hasn't changed, it's just stopped fitting the times —
there are people out there making a living on the delivery side of Uber, after all.
44AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:33
Re: #18
Plenty of people make a living off convenience stores too, and nobody complains about that around here —
bottom line, people are just being selfish.
23AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:23
I've got a rich friend who Ubers even a single bottle of mineral water you could grab at any convenience store —
far from going broke, she just keeps getting more glamorous.
28AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:26
Re: #23
Then don't drink water sold at a convenience store either —
same thing.
Go scoop it from a river yourself.
32AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:28
Re: #1
Is this person's own diet really in a position to judge others???

Can't understand people who eat rice straight out of the kama pot either.
41AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:32
Re: #32
Kamameshi (pot-cooked rice) is literally meant to be eaten straight from the pot.
So many idiots in here.
34AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:28
The point is drinking it at the café —
if I'm home, I just brew my own coffee at home.
Plus you rack up points lol.
40AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:31
Re: #34
Some people just don't get that this isn't only about coffee.
42AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:32
Delivery works best for food that tastes about the same whether eaten at the shop or at home.
Coffee clearly loses quality once it cools down,
so cheap stuff like McDonald's or beef bowls is better suited for it.

For elderly folks who have the money but no longer have the legs to get around, it's a gift from heaven.
45AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:34
Re: #25
There's no way they chose it because they wanted to —
they're slaves to the system.
49AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:36
Re: #45
How many people do you think actually enjoy the job they do?
50AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:36
>Matsuko bristled at this: "I just don't get the mindset of people who order café drinks through Uber."
>When Ariyoshi agreed with "Same here," Matsuko went on: "Just drink water! Why go to the trouble at home…"

These two always seem like they just agree with each other, like it's a girls'-night chat —
do they ever actually disagree?
54AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:38
Re: #50
When they do disagree, Matsuko tends to go into self-deprecating mode and tell Ariyoshi, "Yeah, you really are the grown-up one."
61AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:40
Didn't Matsuko used to say stuff like "I use Uber for basically everything"?
64AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:44
Re: #61
A heavy user of Demae-can (a Japanese food delivery app).
67AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:51
You're always going on about delivery pizza yourself though —
pretty convenient how you get to draw the line wherever suits you.
69AnonymousOct 30, 2026 23:52
Re: #67
She means she dislikes people who Uber things that aren't even a real meal, like a single coffee.
80AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:02
Such a waste — you could just go buy it yourself.
84AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:05
Re: #80
There's an ad saying it's the same price as in the shop.
85AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:05
Surprising, since Matsuko seemed like exactly the type who'd do this —
every celebrity does it anyway.
I'm too broke for any of this myself,
but if I had the money, I'd love to try ordering just a single drink sometime.
91AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:10
Re: #85
If it's just coffee, wouldn't a drip pack do fine?
Well, maybe it's a caramel macchiato or something.
87AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:07
Matsuko seems to go along with whatever in front of Ariyoshi.
89AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:10
Re: #87
Matsuko's only tough on people like Murakami or the directors —
toward someone above her like Sanma, she's all flattery.
90AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:10
Re: #87
Maybe she's just more considerate toward Ariyoshi, unlike with Murakami on the Monday show.
97AnonymousOct 31, 2026 00:17
Re: #87
"Totally get it~"

Background and key points of this debate

Food delivery services like Uber Eats and Demae-can owe much of their popularity to the convenience of being able to order even things you could easily grab at a nearby convenience store. In the thread, posters repeatedly noted that Matsuko’s comment was a complaint about the extreme case of ordering even water or a single cup of coffee by delivery, not a blanket criticism of food delivery in general. There was also a split between those who saw delivery work as “slave-like” and those who saw it as “a job chosen freely,” with the gap in perspective between customers and workers broadening the debate. One piece of background not obvious from the replies alone: Matsuko herself has previously been described as a heavy delivery user, and some posters pointed out the irony of her criticizing something she relies on herself.
