The story

It became a hot topic on 5ch’s Geisoku Sokuho+ board after JRA jockey Yutaka Take (57) won the “Best Hair 2026” award and spoke about his growing concern over thinning hair among his generation, along with his approach to hair care. Alongside comments praising the fullness of Take’s hair, posters compared the hair situations of other jockeys and celebrities, including jockey Christophe Lemaire and “Nori.” The age-old debate over whether baldness comes down to genetics or can be changed through hair care flared back up, with some also pointing out that certain celebrities reportedly use AGA (androgenetic alopecia) medication.

Re: #1
He's got like a 10-horse-length lead on the rest of his generation.
Still plenty thick up there, no worries.

Forget "care," it's genetics.

Re: #6
Pop some pills and you'll be fine somehow.
7AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:09
Jockey Lemaire's looking a bit thin up top these days too.
10AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:11
In horse racing, don't the thin-haired guys start going bald pretty early?

Re: #10
They've got the money, so a few of them have obviously gotten transplants.
11AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:11
You guys sure go easy on bald guys and bullied kids, huh.
14AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:15
He should just give up on the Arc de Triomphe and retire already.
15AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:15
He's at that age so he's probably dyeing the gray, but it doesn't really look dyed.
16AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:16
Is this seriously an award for "happened to still have hair"?
Just scrap the whole thing.
18AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:18
You'd think a job where you're constantly strapped into a helmet for training and races, sweating buckets the whole time, would wreck your hair.

YOOOU BAAALD GUYYYYY!!!!

That's. Not. It!

– You're the one stomping on my heart! (x2)

– You put out XXXX! I want to say it! Stop dragging my reputation down any further!

– Where's the entrance, huh?! Behind this spot right here! Is there an entrance between the apartment block and the gym, you idiot?!

– If I say it's wrong, it's wrong! (x2) Things have a front and a back, you know! An entrance and an exit! It's the back, dammit!

Guess Take Yutaka's the enemy now, huh lol

Re: #22
Even before that, hair just never suited me, so I genuinely couldn't care less about any of this.
25AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:23
Gray hair can still be saved.
Baldness can't be helped.
Glad I just went gray.

So it was already creeping in on them…
27AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:24
Japanese jockeys really don't go bald much, huh.
29AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:25
His classmate, trainer Ikee, has a full head of hair too, right?
30AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:26
"Nori" just has a wide forehead — he's still holding on up there.
47AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:48
Re: #30
Feels like he's actually got more than he used to.
34AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:34
Maybe watching their diet and exercising is why there's less baldness among them.
35AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:35
If you're just at the "hair's getting a bit thinner" stage, topical minoxidil works wonders.
Beyond that, no idea.
37AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:37
The guy's got twice what we've got, damn it!
55AnonymousOct 22, 2026 00:58
Still, compared to the old days,
there really are fewer guys who are totally bald-smooth now.
The young-bald, shiny-dome type of guy —
those guys have genuinely gotten rare.
Probably because living standards have improved.

Re: #55
They're on AGA medication.
Apparently almost every celebrity takes it.
Even lawyer Hashimoto said he's on it.
57AnonymousOct 22, 2026 01:03
Whether you go bald or not is basically all genetics. Making a fuss about it is pointless lol
61AnonymousOct 22, 2026 01:05
Re: #57
Same as height or intelligence, basically.
62AnonymousOct 22, 2026 01:10
Don't jockeys have a mandatory retirement age? Like in pro wrestling?
66AnonymousOct 22, 2026 01:17
Re: #62
Back in the day, most retired in their 40s —
very few stayed active into their 50s.
Take Yutaka looks young, but jockeys back then looked old by their 30s.
68AnonymousOct 22, 2026 01:33
Jockeys don't binge eat or drink, so a lot of them keep full heads of hair.
Though Peslier was bald.
72AnonymousOct 22, 2026 01:50
Re: #68
Does binge eating and drinking even have anything to do with going bald?
My grandpa binge ate and drank his whole life, got super fat, but his hair stayed thick the entire time.

If you look at the comparison photos, didn't the older brother actually gain more hair than before?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The “Best Hair” award is selected by Zenbiren (the National Federation of Beauty Industry Associations) based on a survey of over 50,000 member beauty salons nationwide — the voting reflects hairstylists’ impressions, and isn’t medical proof that someone isn’t thinning. The thread split between those who chalk up baldness to pure genetics and those who credit hair care (medication or treatments) with making a real difference, and the original article offers no evidence settling which side is right. It’s also worth noting that comments claiming certain celebrities use AGA medication are based on hearsay about things those celebrities reportedly said themselves, not verified fact. Commenters also raised a jockey-specific angle — that constant helmet-wearing and brutal weight-cutting regimens might affect hair health — but that too remains anecdotal.
