The story

Capcom released early gameplay footage of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen via Famitsu, sparking discussion on 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Gehan). The main points of debate are the Switch 2 version’s frame rate, and whether the elements that drew criticism in the original Dragon’s Dogma 2 have been improved this time around.

Re: #2
Nope, the player's so bad I couldn't stand watching it
3AnonymousAug 26, 2026 22:58
Wasn't 2 kind of poorly received for its systems?
I wonder if that's been fixed this time
6AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:00
Re: #3
The biggest culprit already left the company, so maybe there's a bit of hope for this one… or so they say
4AnonymousAug 26, 2026 22:59
Went to buy the DLC and it's already in my library
5AnonymousAug 26, 2026 22:59
This series needs to start by dropping the 'open world' false advertising
7AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:00
I'm interested — if the stuff that got bad reviews has actually improved, I might pick it up
8AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:05
Does this game even run properly on Switch 2?
I'd at least want a stable 30fps
11AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:08
Re: #8
Looks pretty solid actually

Re: #11
Looks like it's around 25-30fps
Given the hardware specs and how oddly heavy the original game already was, that's actually pretty impressive…
Still want a 60fps option though
They can gut the resolution and shaders as brutally as needed for that

Re: #11
Capcom's grasp of Switch 2 porting has come a long way since Street Fighter 6 at launch
Setting the actual game content aside
10AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:07
The footage looks super fun,
but around this time we've also got the Witcher 3 remake, AC8, GoW:ED, this game, and Phantom Blade Zero all dropping end of month…
what am I even supposed to do
and there's Muchipo and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse squeezed in there too
whoa!!
12AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:08
Honestly, isn't this basically the real Monster Hunter at this point?
13AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:09
Re: #8
30fps is rough for an action game
A 60fps performance mode is a must

If Switch 2 can't handle that, that's on the developer for slacking
14AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:10
Onimusha's Switch 2 version is running stable too
15AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:11
Did they fix the pawns having such foul mouths?
37AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:53
Re: #15
Just make them completely silent, done
18AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:17
Anyway, when's that TU3.2 update scheduled for end of August actually landing
22AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:26
What era is this game even from — the combat's just 'poke the big enemy in the dark and call it a day,' nothing about it feels amazing or fun

Re: #22
Re: #23
Oh? Strange how you're already forming opinions on a game that hasn't even released yet… Are you posting from the future?
23AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:31
The combat's fun, but the exploration is absolute garbage
28AnonymousAug 26, 2026 23:38
Re: #24
You can tell just from watching the video
43AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:05
Never played the first one — is it okay to jump straight into this?
44AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:07
Re: #43
Only played 2, and I thought it was fun
Never really got why it caught so much hate
72AnonymousAug 27, 2026 01:14
Re: #44
You thought THAT was fun…?
54AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:30
Surely it can at least manage 1080p/30fps on Switch 2, right?
That's the bare minimum for 2026
58AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:36
Re: #54
Even the PS5 version dropped to 20fps at launch sometimes, and it took optimization plus a bunch of downgrades just to reach a variable 60 — so it might be rough
65AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:48
It evolved from the original through Dark Arisen to Dragon's Dogma Online, going beyond just 'more shaking' all the way to Super Saiyan Blue God-tier improvement
and then Dragon's Dogma 2 reset it back to base Kaioken Goku
throwing away all that accumulated feedback was almost impressively bad, in the worst way
67AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:56
Re: #65
Nah, that's totally wrong — you're just an armchair player who never actually touched it lol😅 dabooo

It was sitting at Dogma 1.5, and everyone thought '2' had finally dropped, but turns out it was actually just Dogma 1.7😓

And NOW, with this one, it's finally become true Dogma 2😆 godlike

Honestly it might've even caught up all the way to like Dogma 2.3☺
68AnonymousAug 27, 2026 00:58
No, it's not '1.7' or whatever — it flat-out regressed
71AnonymousAug 27, 2026 01:05
Re: #68
Where exactly did it regress, though😅

If you think 'spam a strong spell in a cramped dungeon and it feels great~' is what makes Dogma good, you're barely qualified to talk about the series🥵
82AnonymousAug 27, 2026 01:55
Dogma 2's fun though

Re: #79
It's getting buffed, so it'll be fine
88AnonymousAug 27, 2026 02:46
Re: #79
Were you seriously just an armchair player😅
75AnonymousAug 27, 2026 01:30
What made the original Dark Arisen fun was the multi-layered, three-dimensional dungeon design, and the hack-and-slash loop of diving in for strong weapons and fusing them
Back then you could play forever without ever needing to leave Bitterblack Isle
Is Dark Arisen 2 built the same way?
76AnonymousAug 27, 2026 01:32
Re: #75
For what it's worth
I thought traveling together with your pawns was fun
even by the standards of the time
84AnonymousAug 27, 2026 01:57
Wasn't this the one that blew up over the Dragonsplague thing?
85AnonymousAug 27, 2026 02:36
Re: #84
Personally, the worst part for me is that you only get one save slot
87AnonymousAug 27, 2026 02:46
Re: #84
That's just another armchair player getting baited by attention-farming posts on X, as usual😅
You have to trigger it on purpose for that to even happen, y'know😅

At the end of the day, starting out with a whole long journey's worth of prep is the real appeal of Dogma☺

But the complaint was more like 'Marathon's Dogma, nothing's actually changed'☺

Also stuff like calling it 'open world' while the paths are basically fixed☺

That's exactly why even fans were calling it 'Dogma 1.7'☺

Background and Key Points

Dragon’s Dogma is Capcom’s action-RPG series built around pawns — AI companions players hire and share with the community via a shared network, called the “Pawn System.” The original 2012 game got its acclaimed expansion, Dark Arisen, in 2013, adding the endgame dungeon Bitterblack Isle that fans still cite as the series’ high point (post 75). Dragon’s Dogma 2 shipped in 2024 to mixed reception: it billed itself as “open world” despite fairly fixed travel routes, ran poorly on consoles due to a CPU-heavy engine, sold microtransaction items that were also obtainable for free in-game, and had only one save slot — which mattered because of “Dragonsplague,” a hidden infection status that could silently corrupt a save with no warning. Series director Hideaki Itsuno, who had led Dragon’s Dogma for over a decade, left Capcom not long after DD2’s launch — almost certainly the “biggest culprit” post 6 says “already quit.”

The thread isn’t split on hype versus hate; it’s split on whether DD2’s specific flaws are actually being fixed this time. One camp (67, 71, 87) treats the series as iterating upward — joking DD2 was really “Dogma 1.7” and this new build might reach “2.3” — while critics (68, 75) argue the exploration and combat regressed and remain unaddressed. A smaller, parallel argument covers the Switch 2 port’s frame rate, with posters disagreeing over whether ~25-30fps is acceptable or a 60fps mode is mandatory.

What the thread glosses over: Dragonsplague wasn’t just online drama, as post 87 implies — it was a real design flaw made worse specifically by the single-save-slot system, which is why it became a story in the first place.
