The story

“Wakatte.tv,” the YouTube channel known for its banter about academic pedigree, resumed activity on October 1. The hiatus traces back to an August 28 video in which member Fumin Takada made inappropriate remarks about a student’s comments on radiation and nuclear power, sparking controversy and a subsequent apology. The comeback video opened with a disclaimer reading, “If you have a complex about your educational background, please refrain from watching,” but reactions on 5ch were split — some asked “Isn’t this disclaimer itself a provocation?” while others countered that “a disclaimer doesn’t give you a free pass to say anything.”

Honestly, you'd have more fun watching Showa-retro exploration videos on YouTube than watching Peace-kun the peacock over at Omiya Park Zoo.

If you don't like flame wars, please skip this stream.

If this kind of wording means you can say whatever you want and get away with it,
you could pull off all sorts of stuff:
"if you have a complex about nipples~"
"if you have a complex about lewd stuff~"
"if you have a complex about discrimination~"
and so on!

This is straight-up trolling, lol

Re: #7
Once you actually read the article, the disclaimer in the headline looks downright tame by comparison — it's that provocative. Cracked me up.
8AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:46
Slapping a disclaimer on it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.
10AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:50
The middle and high schoolers watching this actually get motivated to study harder.
It's way more useful than some random professor.

Re: #10
Using discrimination as motivation is just sad.
32AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:55
Re: #10
Useful for what, exactly, in your head?
11AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:50
The guy in blue took a gap year (ronin) and still only got into Waseda's School of Education — a lower-tier department in humanities, no less.
He's hardly in a position to laugh at anyone else's academic background.

Re: #11
For the Employment Ice Age generation, that's plenty good enough lol (the "Ice Age" generation faced brutal job markets after graduating in the 1990s-2000s)

Wakatte~ wakatte~ Wakatte Candy~ (wordplay on "wakatte," meaning "I get it," echoing the channel's name)

Can't be helped if your face or body isn't much to look at, but once your heart turns ugly too, you're done as a human being, fellas.
16AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:51
Just watch it as a cheap comedy skit between a high-school grad and a private-college humanities major — convenience-store-level entertainment.
20AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:52
Throwing up such a lame disclaimer is just pathetic.
And the people watching this stuff are on the same level, you know?
23AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:52
Re: #14
Well, that's the kind of status you can actually fix with effort, unlike looks.
29AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:55
Re: #23
Then put in the effort to have the self-restraint not to discriminate.
24AnonymousOct 2, 2026 17:53
Regular YouTubers get banned without mercy for way less —
how is this channel still surviving?

Sounds like someone with a low level of education lol

Re: #39
Oh, I'm sure the guy dodging with name-calling is just sooo smart.
55AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:12
So on YouTube, big-eating videos are worse than academic discrimination?
64AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:18
Re: #55
That's exactly what you'd focus on, huh.
56AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:13
Anyone who's a high school grad themselves but pushes their kid into middle-school entrance exams clearly has an education complex.
The entertainment industry is full of this.
It's basically shouting "I have an education complex!" at the top of your lungs.

Re: #56
In the neighborhoods celebrities live in, half the class is doing the middle-school exam route anyway, so it's unavoidable.
And for a celebrity's kid, a private school is safer too.
63AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:17
I really wonder if actual exam-prep students watch this stuff~
67AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:21
Re: #63
Most kids at college-prep high schools watch it.
70AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:25
Re: #63
Parents of middle and high schoolers watch it too — it's useful as a reference for their kids' education path.
82AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:39
Fumin's actually funny.
I don't get why he's getting bashed.
It feels great watching him roast people with low academic credentials, especially AO-exam admits and degree launderers (AO = Japan's "Admissions Office" entrance route that skips standard exams; "degree laundering" means transferring to a more prestigious school later to upgrade your academic pedigree).
If you don't want to watch, just don't.
90AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:48
Re: #82
He's just putting into words what everyone secretly thinks anyway.
93AnonymousOct 2, 2026 18:59
Re: #82
Then he should call out the "women's quota" admits just as bluntly, without pulling punches —
"Hey, aren't you just a quota pick!" "Cut it out, you!" (referring to preferential admission slots for women at some Japanese universities, a frequent flashpoint in these debates)

Background and Key Points of the Debate

“Wakatte.tv” built its popularity on a format where the cast critiques each other’s academic pedigree, and the new disclaimer looks like an extension of that same shtick. Still, many on the thread pointed out that despite resuming right after apologizing over the radiation remark, the show kept its academic-background-teasing stance from the very opening — prompting comments like “a disclaimer doesn’t excuse saying anything you want.” The debate was further complicated by the fact that some cast members themselves are high school graduates or attended universities outside the top tier, blurring the line between who gets to mock academic background and who’s on the receiving end. While some viewers say the show motivates them to study, others see the whole format as drawing lines based on academic pedigree and view it critically — leaving opinions firmly split.
