The story

“Kappo Komewo,” a restaurant in Azabu-Juban, Tokyo, has announced its closure. The establishment previously caused a food poisoning outbreak, and its operation is reportedly linked to a figure known as Komeo. On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports News+ thread, commenters voiced suspicion that the closure is really just a rebrand for a ‘fresh start,’ while others pointed out that the crab ramen shop ‘Kaniwo,’ also said to be connected to the same operator, has continued operating as usual. At the same time, many raised hygiene management concerns, suggesting proper HACCP (food safety management) records may not have been kept, leaving opinions divided over what’s really behind the closure.

Changing the name and calling it a 'fresh start,' right?
Guys like Mizoguchi love pulling that kind of thing.

Re: #21
Candidates for what opens on the same spot next:
Komewo Hanten, Bistro Komewo, Ristorante Komewo

Re: #21
A comeback in Azabu-Juban seems like a stretch anyway
the local shopping district folks were apparently furious.
27AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:10
Hey, hey?
Is this really worth this big a fuss?
A bunch of grown adults all ganging up
Management was a bit lax, sure
Just tighten it up and move on, no?

Re: #27
Food poisoning is scary, though — sometimes it's mild, but it can also be fatal.
116AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:19
Re: #27
Quit talking nonsense.
Some of us
actually went through hell over this
it was seriously brutal
rough stuff.
29AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:11
Everyone's just ganging up and bullying him.
35AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:12
Re: #29
Komewo's the one who did the bullying
poisoning people is a pretty vicious way to bully.
102AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:17
Re: #29
More like a terrorist spreading poison.
37AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:12
Komeo wasn't even at fault to begin with
it's just haters jealous of him making money, blowing a food poisoning case out of proportion
eating something made by an ex-con is apparently enough to brand you an anti by itself.
192AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:28
Re: #37
Honestly, no idea what you're even trying to say.
50AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:13
He'll probably go on Breaking Down (a Japanese amateur fight event) and do some kind of 'atonement match' against someone like Mizoguchi.
109AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:18
Re: #50
Nah, for this one it'd have to be a 'crab match'…
151AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:23
Re: #50
Yeah, I could actually see that happening.
159AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:24
Stool testing, hygiene management records —
didn't they do literally none of it?

Not even slacking off exactly, more like
'wait, you're supposed to do that stuff?'
that's probably the level this guy was on.
189AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:28
Re: #159
Huh? Isn't food just about tasting good?
193AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:29
Re: #159
HACCP compliance is mandatory now.
You have to log things like
the daily fridge temperature checks,
and when making food in bulk
you're required to keep sample portions on hand too.
199AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:30
The crab ramen specialist
Kaniwo kept running without a single day off
even after the food poisoning incident
so Komewo is probably just closing because customers stopped coming.
269AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:39
Re: #199
Wait, so they actually reopened once??
283AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:41
Re: #269
That ramen in question was served under the 'Kappo Komewo' name
so the crab ramen shop itself kept running as normal.
302AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
Re: #269
It was cooked at the kappo restaurant Komewo
and served as chilled crab ramen
so 'Kappo Komewo' is the one that got hit with the business suspension

People online are saying they probably used ingredients from
the crab ramen specialist Kaniwo
but Kaniwo itself has kept operating normally without a break, even now.
239AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:36
He opened a restaurant after just reading recipe books in prison
pretty reckless, disrespectful move.
261AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:38
Re: #239
Prison kitchens actually run hygiene management way stricter than regular restaurants
and even then food poisoning rarely happens there too.
271AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:39
Re: #261
It's not like the inmates themselves are the ones handling hygiene management, though.
312AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:45
Re: #261
Did this guy even actually cook in prison in the first place?
301AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
He can never work in the restaurant industry again.
If he does, it'll definitely cause reputational damage to other businesses in the trade
even just having Komeo as an investor would be nothing but a debuff at this point.
305AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
Re: #301
Kaniwo seems to still be open for business, though.
308AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:44
Re: #305
Whoever wants to go can just go, no?
333AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:47
Re: #305
Don't butt in with that.
Whether he's running a business elsewhere is Komewo's own business.
345AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:48
By the way, that person from Bird Cafe
disappeared off the radar for a while
and is still running a restaurant today, you know.
354AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:49
Re: #345
That one was just skimpy portions, not actual food poisoning, though…
362AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:51
Re: #345
Yeah, that one had this whole vibe of
'don't skimp on osechi, make it yourself'
and people gloating over the 'sparse osechi' fiasco.

Background and Key Points of This Story

“Kappo Komewo” previously caused a food poisoning incident, and this closure announcement appears to follow disciplinary measures such as a business suspension. Hygiene management plan (HACCP) record-keeping has been mandatory for all food businesses in Japan since June 2021, so if the claims raised in the thread — that temperature logs and stool testing records weren’t kept — are true, this wouldn’t be simple bad luck but a genuine failure of the management system itself. Opinions were split over whether this closure represents a withdrawal due to poor business, or an attempt to relaunch under a different name, with speculation spreading despite no clear evidence either way. Some also questioned why the crab ramen shop “Kaniwo,” said to be run by the same operator, has continued operating as usual, but the thread couldn’t confirm just how much equipment or ingredients the two shops actually shared, so no firm conclusion can be drawn.
