Is the “Switch 2 + PC combo” unbeatable? 5ch: “Why’s everyone so mad about it?”

From our other sites

The story

A post went up on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board arguing that “the Switch 2 + PC combo should be the obvious optimal answer, yet people get furious when you say so.” Some posters noted that gaming setups used to require owning every home console from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo plus a PC to be fully covered, whereas now a Switch 2 and a PC (plus a smartphone/tablet) is enough. The thread also drifted into side debates about PC heat and fan noise, worries about future price hikes, and how to treat Palworld’s early-access sales.

I don't get it.
At the very least, this division of labor is clearly the optimal setup — the strongest combo, full stop, right?
Why's that something to get mad about?

They're supposedly "PC owners," but the moment a new PC/PS/Xbox multiplatform game gets announced, they lose it and start chanting about loyalty (giri).
6AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:21
That's because it's just a pose — they claim to own a PC, but they're constantly badmouthing PC games like Palworld.

Re: #6
This is exactly the kind of guy who shows up.

Re: #6
You can play Palworld on Xbox too — since when is it a "PC game"?

Re: #6
Just pretend you don't own a PC! You can't bash it otherwise, so go with that!

lol

Acting like you're the center of the universe — like old PlayStation or today's Nintendo — only makes enemies. That's exactly why PS got hated on, and now Nintendo fans are doing the same thing.

Re: #10
It's not about being "the center of the universe" — objectively, if you've got the one company with clearly unique first-party IP and the other with a broad, accessible lineup, you can play almost every game between the two. Not sure what you're so bent out of shape about to be picking this fight.

It just means Switch alone isn't enough. Pathetic hardware.

Re: #16
Well, back in the day you had to buy all three home consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo plus a PC just to have full coverage. Now Switch 2 + PC + smartphone/tablet does the job.

Re: #14
There's no denying it's the center [of gaming] in Japan, so they're pulling the "what about the rest of the world" card, lol.

Don't PC gamers get annoyed by the heat and fan noise? That alone makes me not want to boot mine up.

Re: #21
Makes me wonder if everyone's just gaming in a super loud room.
45AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:52
Re: #21
If it bothers you that much, you could put it in the next room or find some other workaround.
49AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:52
Re: #21
Yeah, the room temperature definitely does go up.

Every gamer I know plays on PC, no exceptions. If you have a regular job and are financially independent, you can afford an expensive PC. Honestly, I think the PS5-only crowd are shills trying to push people toward Chinese gacha spending and online subscription fees.

Re: #25
Sorry, but I own a gaming PC, a PS5 Pro, AND an Xbox Series X, lol.
67AnonymousSep 30, 2026 08:01
PS and Xbox will definitely end up priced above 150,000 yen even while selling at a loss, and that'll be the end of consoles [as we know them]. When that happens, Nintendo fans will start targeting PCs instead — in the end it's all just people who want to invent an enemy so they can call themselves the winners.

Re: #67
By then PCs will probably cost about twice as much too.
82AnonymousSep 30, 2026 08:07
Re: #67
Doesn't matter anyway — PCs don't take up any shelf space from Switch.
79AnonymousSep 30, 2026 08:06
Re: #68
Well, there's probably more demand for it than for Nintendo games, and the audience might fit better. What matters is the difference in audience — not many people actually want both.

Re: #79
Huh? Derby Stallion 2?

Re: #81
It's horse racing, so it's naturally a game that sells even aimed at adults. Releasing it on PC could bring in new players — there's more demand for it than for Mario Kart or Animal Crossing.

Re: #87
If you're an adult, buying it alongside a Switch 2 is no big deal. I've seen a few people on Twitter [X] buying both together too.

Re: #87
Just look at the Winning Post series — Switch is always the version that sells best.

I'm also running the combo of a PC with an RTX 5070 Ti and a Switch 2. Best pairing there is ❤

Background and Points of Contention

In the past, many games required owning all three consoles — PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch — plus a PC to have full coverage. In recent years, though, many major titles now support both PC and Switch-family hardware, creating a situation where “two devices are enough.” What split the thread was the reasoning behind the backlash against flatly calling this combo the “optimal solution”: some argued it stems from distrust of people who publicly claim to own a PC while trashing certain genres of PC games, while others countered that this is just an unfair generalization. The back-and-forth over Palworld also touched on differing understanding of a PC-market-specific business practice — whether early-access sales should be counted together with full-release sales. Note that this article omits some posts, such as ones that lump an entire hardware fanbase together under a derogatory label.
