They still haven't noticed the miscasting — he just doesn't fit the role.
The constant smirking is exactly why people don't like it.
Even when his character's supposed to be angry in the drama, his eyes are still smiling.
That kind of thing can be used as a convenient plot device however they like.
Season 1 barely leaned on that stuff though.
