GTO ended up just pandering to kids — Onizuka lost his cunning, his lechery, his wild unpredictability, basically everything that made him him. It perfectly symbolizes the times: they caved to a tiny handful of people making dumb complaints, and as a result the vast majority just gave up and stopped watching.

Same with Yuji Oda in Bayside Shakedown — isn't it weird they think they can still win with basically the same cast lineup from over 20 years ago? I'd get it if middle-aged and older viewers still loved it, but that generation's stopped watching TV too.

TV and games both feel like they've stopped thinking. All they care about is making money without spending any, and that's exactly why it's boring. To start with, the people making it don't even find it fun themselves. Nobody knows what'll sell anymore, so they just flail around and lose the ability to make something they'd genuinely enjoy — which means they can't justify spending money on it either.
