FF7 Remake Drops to ¥1,300 in 75%-Off Sale — 5ch: “Okay, That’s Actually Cheap”

From our other sites

The story

The Nintendo Switch2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake has appeared in a sale offering up to 75% off at Nintendo’s official store. On the thread, some expressed surprise at how cheap the price got — down to 1,300 yen — while others complained about it eating into the Switch2’s already tight 256GB of storage, or about the trilogy’s structure, where progression data resets every time you move on to a new title. Voices welcoming the speed of the price drop mixed with concerns that it would just end up as another unplayed “backlog” purchase.

I mean, it's supposedly launching this year, though…
It's obvious they're panicking hard.

Re: #2
Are you the type of person who never panics about anything?
3AnonymousSep 15, 2026 00:55

The view-count gap between Stellar Blade and FF7R3 is double again.

Re: #3
That's because Bayo(netta)'s in it.
5AnonymousSep 15, 2026 00:56
I'll probably get into it once the trilogy set drops to around 5,000 yen.
7AnonymousSep 15, 2026 00:57
Re: #5
Maybe that'll happen a few years after it's fully out.
23AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:08
Re: #5
I'm thinking along the same lines, but I bet I'll end up never buying it at all.
Even if the trilogy someday hits 1,980 yen, I'd probably just let it pile up unplayed.
84AnonymousSep 15, 2026 06:22
Re: #5
Actually, that makes me NOT want to play it.
Progression resets with every title, so there's no motivation to keep going.
Clear part 1, and part 2 has you leveling up from zero again.
12AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:01
It's funny how every single FF thread gets people showing up just to say "don't need it, not playing it."
18AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:05
Re: #12
Yeah, nobody ever shows up saying "I've been waiting for this, gonna buy it."
49AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:31
Re: #12
Well, /geha/ (gaming-hardware board) is basically a gathering of people trash-talking games they never intended to play anyway.
13AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:03
Still too pricey.
Wasn't this already free via PS Plus's Free Play lineup?
19AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:05
Re: #13
"Free Play" isn't actually free, you know!
22AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:08
No way — I already caved and bought it last sale when it dropped to 2,100 yen, and now it's down to 1,300 yen lol.
And I literally just cleared it yesterday, 46 hours in lol lol.

If you haven't played it and you've got time off for Silver Week, go ahead and buy it, no regrets.
It was genuinely fun.

Re: #22
Does this hold up on its own?
I've already seen the ending on video though lol

Re: #42
The Remake built up such good momentum
that I figured that was a fine place to stop.
Ended up dropping Rebirth too, around chapter 11 or so.
Just play the Remake, that's enough.

Re: #42
It's only 1,300 yen, so if you've got even a little interest in FF, just buy it lol
I went and impulse-bought some game called "Super Chameleon" for 600 yen yesterday with zero info on it
Haven't even launched it yet, by the way.
25AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:08
This feels too good.

I want to play Rebirth so I'd like to buy it, but I've only got 54GB left on my Switch2, so I can't…
I've decided I'll get a 1TB memory card once those go on sale.
38AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:22
Re: #28
Just delete the games you're done with lol
40AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:24
Re: #1
Yeah it's cheap, but the storage though…
With only a 256GB SSD it's rough.
There's barely room to run Elden Ring and Fire Emblem alongside it lol
Just let us pick a lighter, downgraded-graphics version already lol
50AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:31
I bought it a while back but still haven't touched it.
I've got way too many sale purchases piled up unplayed.
I want to clear my backlog before part 3 comes out.
51AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:34
Re: #50
There's still time until next year, so no need to rush, maybe.
53AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:35
Re: #50
Classic.
You go to buy it in a sale and realize it already says "purchased" — that's when you know you're screwed lol
52AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:35
I wrote this in another thread yesterday too, but if Zelda is like a solo backpacking trip to some unfamiliar place in Africa, FF7 Remake is more like a domestic bus tour.
It's basically completely on-rails gameplay, and the "okay, free time starts now!" activities (sidequests) are entirely managed for you through the menu screen.

But hey, there are plenty of moments in life where you'd rather take a domestic bus tour than a solo trip to Africa lol lol lol

On Steam, PS Store, and Amazon pre-orders, this is ranking below Romancing SaGa 3 — is that actually bad?
Well, probably just because pre-orders opened a week earlier for that one.

Re: #54
Even the dedicated trailer from the recent Nintendo Direct didn't pull great view counts for FF, so it probably won't sell well.
Rebirth's combined PS5 + Switch2 physical sales are around 400,000 units total, so if this sells even half of that…
55AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:41
Ever since FF13, it's basically become the norm for FF games to end up at less than half price.
I really think FF13 was the turning point that never should have happened for the series.
56AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:42
Re: #1
Isn't this always on sale? Every time I look, it's on sale, come on.
57AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:43
Re: #56
This is the first time it's hit 75% off (on Switch2, anyway).
58AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:43
Let me know if there's ever an update that Japanizes the character names and UI.
59AnonymousSep 15, 2026 01:44
Re: #58
That's Wasei-eigo (Japanese-coined pseudo-English) — so it already counts as Japanese.
71AnonymousSep 15, 2026 03:54
I'm expecting FF to pull the kind of numbers Zelda does…
101AnonymousSep 15, 2026 07:24
Re: #71
Zelda actually has less content and the characters just hop around — what do you even mean by "the kind of numbers Zelda does"? You keep pulling this move of flexing other games at people, but you're just namedropping randomly — I have no idea what point you're trying to make.
74AnonymousSep 15, 2026 04:38
I'm playing the Remake right now, but why can't I use magic, abilities, or items until a certain amount of time passes?
Am I seriously supposed to just spam weak attacks the whole time until then?
And you can't swap elemental magic (Materia) mid-battle — so what am I supposed to do if my element doesn't match the enemy's weakness?
Even grinding EXP just unlocks weapon "power" or whatever? Attack power barely climbs?
Seriously, what is this?
This feels more like an action game than an RPG?
103AnonymousSep 15, 2026 07:26
Re: #74
Then why'd you even buy it?
Isn't the time-gate thing just there to balance it like old-school FF? Never played it myself so I wouldn't know.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a series entry released in 2020, the first installment of a planned trilogy. Because the trilogy’s structure resets progression data whenever players move on to the next title, the thread split between comments like “that kills any motivation to play the whole thing through” and “at 1,300 yen, that’s cheap enough to be worth it.” The Nintendo Switch2 also comes up often in these discussions because its built-in storage is a relatively modest 256GB, making it hard to keep multiple large titles installed at once — and true to form, complaints about storage space surfaced even before praise for the cheap price this time around. Note that the sales rankings and view-count comparisons cited in the thread reflect informal tallies and impressions from 5ch users, not official published statistics.
