New iPhone “Duo” Steals the Spotlight — 5ch: “Quit Talking About Duo, Talk About the Pro!”

The story

On 5ch’s Livegalileo (Nandemo Jikkyo G) board, posters noted that the new “iPhone 18 Pro” is being overshadowed by all the buzz around “Duo,” the rumored foldable model. The thread covered how the 18 Pro’s weight hit series highs — 249g for the Pro Max and 211g for the Pro — the switch from a stainless steel to an aluminum frame, and how Duo’s crease is barely noticeable. Meanwhile, Pro supporters pushed back, arguing the Pro still wins on camera performance, leaving the thread divided over which model is the better pick.

Why is nobody talking about the political-party-retainer's Pro? (likely an IME typo for "legitimate evolution" — a Japanese homophone slip)

Me: "AirPods 5…" (mutters under my breath)

Re: #11
Was there one…?

Re: #11
Sorry, I've got the Pro 3
15AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:58
Re: #11
Just release the Pro already
18AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:59
Re: #1
Lol, that autocorrect fail makes this sound weirdly sketchy
22AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:00
Re: #18
For real, that's a legit evolution
21AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:00
Might just buy the Duo, huh
23AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:00
Re: #21
The Pro's definitely the way to go! You get gorgeous shots with it!
41AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:09
I'm going with this color!

59AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:28
Re: #41
The light blue looks similar to my current 13 Pro, so I might go with that
Dark colors are hard to spot once they're buried in my bag

Re: #41
Wait, is this the purple everyone's been on about!?
Looks more like red bean paste or copper to me
52AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:21
Once you hold the actual unit, the weight makes you recoil
53AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:23
Re: #52
I'm a Pro Max user
Weight doesn't even register for me
68AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:36
Re: #52
If it startles you enough to drop it, won't it end up covered in scratches?
60AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:30
You genuinely can't tell where Duo's crease is
Honestly, it feels like they didn't compromise on anything achievable right now — hardware, software, even the camera trade-offs. Impressive.
62AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:32
Re: #60
Since the Pro exists to cover camera needs, I doubt Duo will ever get a triple-lens setup
63AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:33
Re: #60
Seriously though, talk about the Pro, not Duo 😡
65AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:34
That's basically the same as the 17 lol
70AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:38
Re: #65
The camera's improved! The chip's more powerful! Heat dissipation is better too!
71AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:40
Re: #70
"The chip's more powerful" is a weird way to put it
72AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:40
Re: #70
Heat dissipation got even better?
I'm honestly impressed the 17 Pro barely heats up at all
73AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:40

There are people with fingers like this?? 😔
75AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:42
Re: #73
Lol that's hilarious 🤭🤭🤭
93AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:54
Re: #73
Zero chance I could hold that one-handed
Even the Pro Max is already a stretch
74AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:41
Instead of buying this, wouldn't it be smarter to wait for next year's 20th-anniversary model?
76AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:42
Re: #74
No way that's coming out yet
78AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:45
Stop putting cheap-feeling aluminum on the Pro model
80AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:45
Re: #78
Aluminum is the only material that meets Apple's demand for overwhelmingly easy recyclability
81AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:45
Re: #78
That's important for heat dissipation, you know
94AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:55
Isn't there a huge gap between the iPhone 17 and the 17 Pro?
96AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:56
Re: #94
It's nothing but huge differences
No telephoto lens, and the zoom is garbage
100AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:58
Re: #94
The RAM capacity is different too — the 17 Pro can use the full Siri AI features, but the 17 can't
103AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:00
iPhone 18 Pro: 211g
iPhone 18 Pro Max: 249g

Heaviest in series history lol
106AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:03
Re: #103
They switched from stainless steel to aluminum, so why's it still this heavy…
107AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:03
Re: #103
Calling that heavy makes you way too soft!
My 15 Pro Max already feels light as a feather to me!
113AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:06
Meanwhile, us Air users are apparently living comfortably while glancing sideways at all these unnecessary high-end features.
118AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:08
Re: #113
I've got the SE3, and every time a new model drops I just feel more sure I don't need to upgrade. Compact and light — this is all I need.

Battery life is my only complaint though
119AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:09
Re: #118
The camera performance is rough, though, and honestly it looks way too old-mannish
125AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:10
Re: #118
Honestly, SE users should just get the Air.
Same lightness, but better battery and a bigger screen. Unbeatable.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

It’s worth noting that “Duo,” the name driving this thread’s buzz, is an online nickname for the rumored foldable iPhone — not an official Apple designation. Posters pointed out that the iPhone 18 Pro (211g) and Pro Max (249g) hit series-high weights, but the switch from stainless steel to an aluminum frame was aimed primarily at improving heat dissipation, not cutting weight — a distinction the thread itself never addressed. Likewise, the “full Siri AI access” gap cited between the 17 and 17 Pro reflects how installed RAM determines which generative-AI features each model can run, a restriction pattern that has continued on non-Pro iPhones in recent years. While the thread contrasted strong interest in the new Duo against the fading presence of 18 Pro supporters, it’s worth remembering that claims about camera superiority and the like are based on posters’ impressions and speculation, not measured testing.
