The story

Former pro baseball player and TV personality Kazushige Nagashima (60) revealed on the October 6 broadcast of “Odoru! Sanma Gotten!!” that “there isn’t a single day I’m not in pain.” He said that on top of presbyopia, he also suffers from night blindness, and that his hip pain is the toughest to deal with — comments that sparked discussion on 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports Breaking News+ board. In the thread, some reacted with “Wow, he’s already 60,” really feeling the weight of his age, while others floated a theory that steroids caused his hip pain — though this was met with pushback claiming he “was just born with a shallow hip socket.” The conversation gradually expanded to include tales of tinnitus and sudden sensorineural hearing loss from habitual earbud use.

I get it if we're talking about someone like Akahoshi, but Ichimo barely even played in games, did he?

Re: #2
He did karate, so it's probably from that.
3AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:33
The world has a word for that: getting old!

Re: #3
Already 60, damn.
The draft days were such a huge deal.
We're all bald and saggy now too.
4AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:34
This guy admitted he used steroids back when he was active — wonder if that's related.
6AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:35
Young people probably know Ichimo is Shigeo's son, but have no clue he used to be a pro baseball player himself.
9AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:37
'Night blindness' — now there's a word you don't hear much these days.
He's a modern guy, so it's probably not a vitamin A deficiency — more likely genetic.
10AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:39
There's almost nothing in this world less important than Ichimo's health.

Same here, for the past few years something on my body is always hurting.
My leg pain settles down, then my stomach starts hurting.
That settles down, then my chest starts hurting.
Then that settles down and my jaw starts hurting — an endless loop.
14AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:41
I get the impression his organs are tough though, I wonder how that's holding up.
16AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:43
People these days really do look younger.

Masahiro Motoki, ex-member of idol group Shibugakitai, is 60 and looks like that — unbelievable.

Didn't he say that after his hip surgery the pain went away and he could walk like crazy again?

Guess a full recovery wasn't in the cards?
87AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:35
Re: #17
Right, so after that the next worst pain moved to his lower back.
18AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:45
Can't become a pro without pushing your body to the limit.
19AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:45
How come he's got a full head of hair even though he's Shigeo Nagashima's son?
36AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:55
Re: #19
Ichiro's got a full head of hair too, right?

Re: #19
Whether you go bald depends more on your mother's side of the genes.
21AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:47
They aired his joint replacement surgery on TV.
Looked like major surgery, but I guess you can walk again pretty quickly after.

Re: #21
If you don't move it, the wound heals up with adhesions forming all over, so you have to get moving right away.
You heal while moving.
22AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:47
So even money can't buy you health…
23AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:47
That's just how it is once you're past 50.
I don't have a single day where I feel 100% either.
33AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:55
Re: #23
Dunno if it's true, but he says it's been like that since he was 10.
25AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:49
Tinnitus at 40 is rough.
If you use earbuds every day, it'll catch up to you sooner than you think.
42AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:57
Re: #25
Same, ever since I got sudden hearing loss the tinnitus never stops.
46AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:02
Re: #25
At my workplace, three people quit over sudden hearing loss within a year and a half.
HR sent out a notice telling everyone to cut back on earbud use as much as possible.
69AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:13
Re: #25
Yeah, earbuds really do cause problems like that.

Re: #1
It's probably a mansion or a fancy condo, so the dining table lighting's some dim orange-ish bulb lol

Just switch it to a daylight-white LED already.

Re: #28
If he lives somewhere nice, these days it's probably the kind where you can switch between both with one button.
62AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:09
Re: #57
We do have something like a call center, but the people who quit were all from unrelated departments.
Still, they were always wearing earbuds playing mobile games before shifts and during breaks.

Re: #62
It happens even when it's not literally around the clock, huh.
79AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:27
Seems like a lot of people who played sports hard end up like this.
Joints really are a consumable part.
86AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:33
Re: #79
But he says it's been since he was 10.
101AnonymousOct 7, 2026 11:51
He never made it big, but he's still an athlete — probably had absurdly high output even as a kid.

Re: #101
A Giants coach back then said that in terms of raw talent alone, Ichimo was number one.
Though he also said Ichimo was no good as a player because he hated practicing and wouldn't listen to anyone.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Nagashima has spoken about his hip pain before, and it’s well known that he underwent joint replacement surgery. The thread’s “steroids caused it” theory is on shaky ground — the main cause of hip osteoarthritis is typically congenital skeletal factors (such as acetabular dysplasia), and indeed some replies pushed back on it. Night blindness is more often genetic than caused by nutritional deficiency, and with modern diets, nutrition-related cases are rare. The conversation also wandered into linking habitual earbud use with sudden sensorineural hearing loss — worth noting that medicine hasn’t firmly established that causal link, and individual workplace anecdotes don’t necessarily generalize. The remark that “if it came down to talent alone, Ichimo was number one,” attributed to a Giants coach, is an anecdote that’s been quoted before, and it resurfaced again in this thread.
