A thread on 5ch’s console-gaming board (the “Geha” board) argued that “Genshin Impact is fun, so drop your Nintendo-style games and switch over” — and the replies split sharply between agreement and pushback. The discussion spread into technical debates over Genshin’s storytelling and character polygon counts, as well as the current state of the PlayStation Store charts, where Chinese-made free-to-play titles dominate the top sales rankings.
Ever think about looking at the wider world?
Post even one short clip that actually shows why it's fun. All that comes through is a 'cute-girl petting zoo' (slang for gacha games stuffed with pretty female characters) and nothing else.

There's no 'good or bad' for a game whose story is only around for a limited time, lol.
It's funny how anyone who hasn't been following it since day one is just a newbie who only knows the story in disconnected fragments.

It's a story-driven game, so a clip alone won't make it make sense — that's just not gonna work.

If you were pushing NTE or ZZZ (Zenless Zone Zero) I'd get it, but Genshin at this point? Lol

They already announced Mugendai's shutdown date, so recommending NTE is off the table now too, lol

Why do you want the Nintendo fanboys ("Nishi-kun") to approve of you so badly?

Classic case of Nintendo-fanboy inferiority complex.

What's this 'reasonable Chinese game' thing supposed to mean? (a garbled pun on 'いい加減、中華ゲー' — 'seriously, just play Chinese games already')
So you call it a 'kiddie game' and figured I'd fall for that special-needs-level logic, huh?

That's the tricky part about Japanese —
with kanji, katakana, hiragana, and the Roman alphabet all mixed together,
you can write without spacing words apart, which backfires sometimes.
Unless you clearly write it as 'いい加減に中華ゲー〜' ("Seriously, Chinese games…"),
it can end up reading as one single garbled word.

The only reason people buy dedicated hardware to play games — objects that serve zero practical purpose — comes down to one thing: 'because it's fun.' There's no reason beyond that.
What I don't get is this mindset of 'they probably secretly want to play it but are stubbornly holding back.' If someone won't play a game they could just play on their phone, the only explanation is 'they're not interested' — there's nothing more to it.

So the Nishi-kun living in your head never does what you want, and deep down he's this higher being whose approval you're desperate for someday, huh?
Hope Nishi-kun gives you that approval one day.

For reference, Genshin's character polygon counts run about 20,000 for early characters, and only recently hit around 40,000 for newer ones.
Monster Hunter Rise's characters run 20,000-30,000 polygons, so quality-wise Genshin could run just fine on Switch — assuming you actually had proper optimization behind it, of course.

It's an open world that's already implemented 7 nations with over 100 playable characters, so it'd blow way past Switch specs, easily.

PlayStation is really the only market where free Chinese games dominate the top charts, right?
They're up there on PC too, but PC has plenty of its own mainstream free titles.

I figured the Epic Games Store — aka 'Tencent's Shop,' given Tencent's stake in it — would be Chinese-game territory too, so I checked,
but Fortnite and Rocket League are sitting at the very top, so it's less of a total Chinese sweep than expected.

You're still playing Genshin?
Move on to NTE and Wuthering Waves already.

It's not just cheap — there are also quite a few Chinese games there that aren't even on Steam.
Though honestly Fortnite is so dominant it's basically 'Fortnite and everything else' at this point.

Are they losing their audience and struggling financially or something?

But spending money on a mobile game through PlayStation has basically zero upside, and yet it's topping the charts — so which is it:
are there just a ton of clueless spenders out there, or does the ranking itself not actually mean much?

Both, honestly.

It's nothing but creepy, smirking ("nichaa" — internet slang for a creepy grin) middle-aged men.

'Games' means proper pay-once titles.
Free-to-play? Gacha? Nintendo doesn't recognize that garbage as gaming, idiot.
