Switch 2 Version of Metaphor Gets 60fps Support — 5ch Says ‘It Won’t Hold Steady and the Resolution’s a Blurry Mess’

News that Atlus’s RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio will support 60fps on the Switch 2 became a hot topic on 5ch’s console/industry (“Geha”) board. Thread posters pointed to Persona 3 Reload, which was locked to 30fps in handheld mode, as a reason to doubt this was really achievable. A review introduced later in the thread then took over the discussion, reporting that the 60fps mode is far from stable and the resolution looks blurry.

The real crap part about Persona 3 Reload is that they shipped it unfinished just to get it out the door fast.

The whole Shin Megami Tensei V to V Vengeance situation was garbage too.

For these PS4/PS5 cross-gen ports, it's usually 30fps on PS4 and 60fps on PS5 — I'd have figured Switch 2 would land closer to the PS4 side and be stuck at 30fps.
But this one actually pulls off 60fps?

Depends on what was causing the 30fps in the first place.

If the PS4 was capped at 30 because of the hard drive, hitting 60 on Switch 2 wouldn't be that hard.

P3R only has a 60fps mode in docked play — handheld is forced to 30fps no matter what.
Same deal here: handheld mode is locked to 30fps.

And if it's 30fps on Switch 2, that's because the assets and visual settings are built to PS5 spec.
The PS4 version is a super stripped-down build with a really narrow draw distance too.

The hard drive has nothing to do with 30fps lol

I asked an AI whether an HDD could cause 30fps and it said it could be a factor.
30Anonymous2026/08/27(木) 02:29:07.63ID:HplLj5MVr
What garbage AI gives an answer like that…

AI basically just tells you whatever you want to hear.
So anyone citing it as a source is an idiot — the type who falls for scams.

Some open-world games end up at 30fps because they're constantly streaming data in the background,
but Metaphor isn't open world.

We don't actually know how Atlus builds their engine, so there's no telling.

After all, even something like P3R — a game you play through in tiny, cramped maps — still ran at 30fps on Switch 2.
36Anonymous2026/08/27(木) 02:44:37.52ID:ffNNl8GL0
Well, 30fps or whatever aside, can't they get Persona 4 Reload or Persona 6 onto Switch 2?
Unlike P3R and Metaphor, sure, they'd have to drop PS4 support, but graphics at that level should run fine… (it's honestly below Pokémon-tier at this point)

There's no way they wouldn't release it.

They already got Persona 5 running on the original Switch, so this should be a breeze.
Unlike action games, RPGs are way easier to port to begin with, I'd think.
Atlus just doesn't have the manpower.

Persona 4 Remake is stuck on garbage hardware nobody can actually play it properly on.

There goes the reverse jinx again (someone whose predictions always backfire).
You said the exact same thing about Metaphor, didn't you?

Glad to see you're so sore about it.

Apparently the PS5 version of GTA6 is 30fps too.
30fps is eye-searing, but watching it boomerang back on them like this is hilarious.

What leaked was a PC build.
Rockstar says the PS5 version runs at 120fps.

30fps is a Switch 2 exclusive.
70Anonymous2026/08/27(木) 05:14:15.57ID:FxRHHsK40
According to the review:
60fps doesn't hold steady at all,
and the resolution's a blurry mess.

Apparently the quality is so bad they can't even recommend it.

No, they're talking about how weak the Switch 2 hardware itself is.
Third parties are just collateral damage caught up in it.
78Anonymous2026/08/27(木) 05:40:12.27ID:uQU30y4h0
>>77
Caught up in it how?
Third parties chose to develop for it themselves, that makes no sense.
81Anonymous2026/08/27(木) 05:48:53.14ID:qAgA1Eab0
>>77
Ah, is this about that Capcom comment calling PS5 a 'barrier'?
84Anonymous2026/08/27(木) 06:00:02.24ID:dl81U1/R0
Third parties surely knew what the Switch 2's specs were like going in and had a rough idea how things would turn out.
Calling that 'collateral damage' — you're the one looking down on third parties here.

At the end of the day, this whole 'collateral damage' theory never gets past pure speculation.
Come back and complain once an actual third party says something like that themselves.
