September Nintendo Direct Rumored to Be a ‘Software Publisher’ Edition — 5ch: “Is This Really What Year Two Looks Like?”

From our other sites

The story

On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, leaked information claiming that “the September Nintendo Direct will be a software-publisher edition, with zero announcements of major first-party titles” became a hot topic.

Thread regulars traded opinions over how Raiders — supposedly August’s flagship new release — has already faded from conversation, along with speculation about the release timing for the new Zelda title (said to be coming this year) and From Software’s new title The Duskbloods.

Bro… this ain't it!!
6AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:19
I'm honestly shocked that Raiders, which was supposed to be August's flagship title, became a non-topic in the blink of an eye.

Re: #6
More to the point, are you saying that aside from stuff that doesn't even sell well like Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Collection, everything else has become a non-topic?
So nothing but Nintendo's own games gets attention? That's a harsh thing to say.
7AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:20
Please let it be a solo Ocarina of Time Direct, pleeeease!!!

Re: #7
Yeah, because all we've got so far is footage of him just sleeping.
11AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:24
Is the new Zelda seriously coming out this year?
It's almost September already
I wonder if it can really launch in a little over three months.
14AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:26
Re: #11
A while back, some official Nintendo material listed it as launching this year.
If the schedule were really at risk of missing this year, they wouldn't have announced it back in June in the first place.
17AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:28
My gut says Zelda makes it this year, but The Duskbloods gets a slight delay to around January-February 2027.
19AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:29
Re: #17
Can't you even read the post right above yours…?
18AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:29
The only thing that looks likely to release in the first half of next year is Xeno Gen (presumably a Xenoblade-series title), so surely they'll announce something new.
20AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:30
Re: #18
Given that Pokémon and Xeno are the only things announced for next year, it should be obvious this can't be a software-publisher edition.
25AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:38
They alternate between regular and software-publisher editions, you know.

2024
Feb: Software-publisher lineup
June: Regular
Aug: Software-publisher lineup

2025
March: Regular
July: Software-publisher lineup
Sept: Regular

2026
Feb: Software-publisher lineup
June: Regular

Re: #25
That pattern only happened because it was the hardware-transition period. Switch your thinking already.
28AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:42
Re: #25
A console's twilight year and a new console's launch year aren't a useful comparison.
30AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:46
Got quite a few bites there.
Nice.
34AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:49
Re: #30
Lame to declare 'just trolling' when you were only posting wishful thinking.
Sounds like you're just begging for the Direct not to happen.
68AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:19
Re: #30
Claiming 'just trolling' after the fact is lame.
74AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:51
Re: #30
Guess you really don't get how you look to other people…
37AnonymousAug 26, 2026 13:56
Wait, is anything even coming out in December?
65AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:08
Re: #37
December's probably The Duskbloods.
PR has recently reiterated it's still on track for this year.
From Software always holds a Network Test 100 days before release (the last one just wrapped up).
Putting that together, it looks like an early-December launch.
Ocarina of Time would likely land before that, in November (ahead of Black Friday).
38AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:01
They're really struggling with the lineup.
Is this really what year two looks like? It's a mess.
48AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:36
Feels like Raiders is doing pretty poorly, contrary to Nintendo's expectations — wonder what they're going to do about this year's software lineup.
50AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:41
Re: #48
Because there's basically nothing to do post-clear.
52AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:47
Re: #48
How can you be so sure your own opinion is absolutely correct?
53AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:49
Re: #52
That's basically every Nintendo fanboy ("Nishi-kun," 5ch slang for die-hard Nintendo loyalists) on the Geha board.
They start from the premise that Nintendo is right and never budge.
56AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:52
Re: #54
Even after ticking off the Patent Office, you're still saying Nintendo's in the right? That one seriously made me cringe.
58AnonymousAug 26, 2026 14:57
Re: #56
In the Palworld-fanboy's world, I guess anything is forgiven no matter what.
69AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:35
Nintendo's whole ideal — basically their commercial — was elementary schoolers bringing their Switch 2s together and going "let's hunt!" with Raiders (echoing Monster Hunter's famous catchphrase), but clearly it hasn't caught on like that, it's not trending, and weekly sales have already leveled off — so what are they going to do?
82AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:15
Re: #69
Easy to say 'bring them together,' but I doubt parents would so easily let their kids lug around a console that costs 60,000 yen.
If it gets lost or stolen, the kid can't take responsibility for that.
71AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:39
Raiders is a huge success, okay? Happy now?
But there's nothing else coming out until winter — seriously, what are they going to do?
78AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:05
Re: #71
Doesn't seem like we'll see eye to eye — you're acting like Fire Emblem doesn't even exist.
80AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:14
Re: #78
That title is way too niche, not for everyone.
72AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:41
Anyone saying there's nothing until winter is seriously underestimating Switch Sports Resort — it could easily outsell the Ocarina of Time remake.
75AnonymousAug 26, 2026 15:58
Re: #72
It's being written off because it's ultimately a Switch (1) game that does nothing to help Switch 2 adoption.
86AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:22
Having to compare it to something that doesn't even sell well, like PS, shows how cornered they are.
Guess a pricey console really is a problem.
88AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:25
Re: #86
Fair point.
Gloating by comparing yourself to domestic PS sales is incredibly lame.
93AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:30
If it's a software-publisher edition with no major titles either, what are they even going to announce, lol
95AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:33
Re: #93
Guess they're planning to announce that there's nothing to announce.
96AnonymousAug 26, 2026 16:43
Re: #93
There's no way anyone could understand the inner fantasies of someone who starts a thread full of baseless wishful-thinking delusions.

Background and Key Points

Nintendo’s “Direct” livestreams have long come in two flavors: a “regular” edition built around first-party exclusives, and a “software-publisher edition” (ソフトメーカー編) that hands the spotlight to third-party partners with little or no news on Nintendo’s own franchises. Post 25’s table shows this alternation going back to 2024, and it matters here because the Switch 2, Nintendo’s new hardware launched in June 2025, is now entering its second year — a period when investors and fans alike watch closely for evidence the first-party pipeline hasn’t dried up. “Raiders” in the thread appears to be Kirby Air Riders, pitched as Switch 2’s August tentpole release; “The Duskbloods” is From Software’s Switch 2-exclusive action title; and the “new Zelda” is the rumored Ocarina of Time remake, both anticipated before year-end.

The thread’s real fault line isn’t whether the leak is true, but what it would mean if it is. One camp reads a software-publisher-only September Direct as proof Nintendo’s own 2026 lineup is thinner than hoped, pointing to Raiders’ fast-fading buzz as a warning sign. The other camp insists the alternating format is routine scheduling, not a red flag, and notes that pattern only looks unusual because posters are comparing a launch-year cadence to a normal one.

What outsiders should know: nothing here is confirmed by Nintendo — it’s an unverified leak, and “software-publisher edition” historically has still included minor Nintendo-published third-party titles, just not flagship first-party reveals.
