  • 5ch Users Get Hooked on Mobile Game ‘Angry Birds 2’ — Thread Spirals Into Dragon Quest VII Nostalgia at Suruga-ya

A thread popped up on the News VIP board where a poster using the emoticon AA “(っ´ω`c)” reported being deep into the mobile game Angry Birds 2. Repliers chimed in with nostalgia-fueled tangents — the price of a Nintendo 3DS copy of Dragon Quest VII bought at Suruga-ya, the going rates for Switch titles, and the latest on new Fire Emblem releases. The thread never settled on one topic, drifting all the way to updates on colds and doctor visits — a classic case of a game thread sliding into general chit-chat.

(っ´ω`c) You guys playing it too? Angry—
    6AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:13
Suruga-ya had all sorts of stuff, old games included.
I bought myself another copy of the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII — box and manual included — for a steal at 760 yen.
I actually prefer the 3DS version anyway since it's closer to the original VII than the Reimagined remake, so it worked out perfectly.

    No Switch Fire Emblem there.

    Background and Talking Points

The “Google Play points” and “Platinum rank” mentioned in the thread refer to Google Play’s loyalty program, where points accumulate with purchases and raise your rank. Angry Birds 2 runs an event tied into this system, which is why posters are comparing ranks and leftover points. Suruga-ya, for context, is a secondhand retailer (both online and in physical stores) known for selling older titles — like the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII — cheaply, a fact well known among gaming fans. The thread itself follows the “named-poster chat” format common on the VIP board, built around a recurring poster identified by a fixed emoticon rather than any particular news event, with the conversation driven more by casual life updates than headlines. True to that format, the topic never stays fixed, wandering from game talk all the way to health updates and doctor visits.

  • Shiseido Disbands Track & Field Team After 47 Years — 5ch Reacts: ‘The Ex-Consultant Wrecked Everything’

Shiseido announced on the 14th that it will disband its track and field team, the “Shiseido Running Club,” at the end of March 2027. Founded in 1979, the storied team is closing the book on a 47-year run after winning the All Japan Industrial Women’s Ekiden (Queens Ekiden) twice and producing athletes who competed at the Olympics and World Athletics Championships. The announcement comes against the backdrop of Shiseido’s weak performance, with both operating income and net income falling into the red for the fiscal year ended December 2025. On 5ch’s Geisoku (entertainment/sports) board, users debated the reasons behind the company’s decision to cut its track team, pointing to the slowdown in the Chinese market, the rise of Korean cosmetics, and past management decisions.

    Nikkan Sports [October 14, 2026, 2:15 PM]

Shiseido announced on the 14th that it has decided to suspend the activities of its corporate track and field team, the Shiseido Running Club, and disband it as of March 31, 2027.

The team was founded in 1979, the year of the first Tokyo International Women’s Marathon. Over its 47-year history, under the slogan “Strong, Fast, Beautiful,” it won the All Japan Industrial Women’s Ekiden Relay Championship (Queens Ekiden) twice and produced athletes who went on to represent Japan at the Olympics and World Championships.

    100AnonymousOct 14, 2026 17:36
    Re: #97
But there are athletes who just joined fresh out of school this year though

    Background and Key Points

As one of Japan’s leading domestic cosmetics makers, Shiseido has long invested in corporate sports, but in recent years it has struggled amid a sharp slowdown in the Chinese market and the rise of Korean cosmetics brands. It’s worth noting that the figures cited in the thread showing the company sliding into the red for the fiscal year ended December 2025 (with both operating and net income negative) were posted by a single commenter and are not an official announcement. The thread also debated the merits of Shiseido’s past decision to sell off former mainstay brands like TSUBAKI and uno and pivot to a premium strategy, with opinions divided. The suspension of corporate athletic teams has become increasingly common in recent years at companies facing tough profit environments, not just Shiseido, and this decision, too, lines up with the official reasoning of “improving growth and profitability.” Opinions in the thread were split over what it takes to sustain a corporate sports team and where management responsibility lies, so it’s worth being cautious about reducing the story to any single cause.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Geisoku/Sports News+) thread “[Track and Field] Shiseido Announces Suspension and Disbanding of Its Corporate Team, Citing ‘Careful Deliberation on Growth and Profitability’ — Storied Team Founded in ’79.”

  • Hello! Project’s Popularity Was a Close Race Until Last Year — 5ch: “Juice=Juice Surges Ahead Thanks to the ‘Moremi’ Buzz”

On a 5ch thread where Hello! Project (Harapro) fans gather, the lineup order for the year-end music festival “CDJ” (Countdown Japan) became a hot topic. The thread’s starter asked: “Last year at CDJ, Angerme’s turnout crushed Juice=Juice’s — so why is Juice=Juice the first group booked this year?” Replies clashed between those crediting the “Moremi” buzz (a viral moment that swept through late last year into this year) for Juice=Juice’s sudden surge in popularity, and those arguing that Angerme’s turnout last year was just a temporary spike driven by fans of a few specific members.

    1AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:00
The floor was showing through the crowd last year, let's be honest.
    3AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:03
No, seriously, this isn't a lie or an exaggeration — up until last year,
Angerme really was the more popular group compared to Juice=Juice.
The newcomers who joined because of "Moremi" might not believe it, but it's true.
    9AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:07
    Re: #3
But Juice=Juice always won on playback/streaming numbers,
and their fanbase had more rock-solid, hardcore supporters.
The moment Angerme started looking less popular, their fans scattered fast.
    4AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:04
I'll admit "Moremi" caused a major shift.
    5AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:05
80% of what looked like Angerme's crowd last year was actually just people waiting around for Kanchu.
    7AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:06
Moremi went viral and Juice=Juice's popularity exploded.
    8AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:06
So Angerme could fill that time slot, lol
    Impressive, lol
Guess that means they're definitely getting booked again this year!!! lol
    10AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:08
If anything, around this year's Hina Fes too, I'd still say Angerme was a popular group within Hello! Project, even if not mainstream-popular.
    13AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:09
    Re: #10
The only Hina Fes show that sold out in the first round this year was the Juice=Juice premium performance.
    17AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:10
    Re: #10
It never got past "vanilla" tier (i.e. it never sold out).
    11AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:08
Angerme kept losing core members one after another — Murota, Funaki, Takeuchi, Sasaki, Kawamura, Jokokuryo…
    and it just declined.
    12AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:08
That's probably because everyone knew management wasn't made up of Angerme otaku — everyone's real goal all along was whatever group comes after Angerme, lol
    15AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:10
So basically, the "Moremi" effect is what caused the "turnaround."
    18AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:11
Ever seriously wondered why so many Angerme otaku jumped ship to BEYOOOOONDS (Biyo)?
    19AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:12
If that side is also making a living off live shows, they'll know what's genuine.
If it's not genuine, it won't pull in the money.
    20AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:12
Juice=Juice? You mean the group that plays to empty seats.
    21AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:13
The groups Angerme actually needs to compete with now are OCHA NORMA and Rosy —
they're simply not on the same stage as Juice=Juice anymore.
    22AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:13
No, seriously — not a lie, not manipulation — up until last year, Hello! Project wasn't a Juice=Juice-dominates-everyone situation.
Morning Musume '25, Angerme, Juice=Juice, BEYOOOOONDS… there wasn't a huge gap between them.
Then from late last year into this year, "Moremi" went viral and Juice=Juice suddenly shot way ahead of the rest.
    24AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:15
    Re: #22
Before Juice=Juice took off, if anything Juice=Juice was the one being sidelined while the other groups kept getting chance after chance — and none of them managed to pop off the way Juice=Juice has now. That's just a lack of ability on their part.
    31AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:20
    Re: #22
Sounds like something you'll still be saying this time next year, lol. If you can't compete now, what's the point?
    28AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:17
I don't want Juice=Juice at the countdown concert.
At year-end they need to be on NHK's Kohaku Uta Gassen.
This isn't the time to be doing a countdown show 💩
    30AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:20
Leave CDJ and the countdown concert to Morning Musume '26, Angerme, Tsubaki Factory, and BEYOOOOONDS —
Juice=Juice should be on NHK's Kohaku.
    That's the most ideal lineup.
    33AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:21

CDJ isn't organized by Up-Front Group, so that's beside the point.

Management just isn't doing it that way, so what can you do, lol
    35AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:22
Juice=Juice would be better off not doing CDJ.
    39AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:23
    Re: #35
The crowd there is mostly non-Harapro-otaku, so if anything, every Hello! Project act except Juice=Juice doesn't even deserve a slot.
    36AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:23
Thanks to the "Moremi" breakthrough, Juice=Juice got booked onto various shows and each member got to shine.
I think it was a year where they steadily leveled up.
It's also huge that their cover of Kohmi Hirose's "Kurakura" didn't kill the "Moremi" momentum but kept riding it.
As for BEYOOOOONDS, between the promo push toward their first Yokohama Arena show,
the new members, and the surprise "Hai to Diamond" (Ashes to Diamond),
it felt like every single move in their strategy landed.

Juice=Juice only got a streaming release because they suddenly blew up — they rushed one out from the three "Moremi" versions.
    55AnonymousOct 14, 2026 16:54
Both performances were good last year, but
on Juice's side there was that "Choi-chan" bit, plus some baffling directing call from Taisei on the "Moremi" stage where they stretched out a few bars near the end —
honestly, that part was kind of iffy.

“Moremi,” as used here, is 5ch shorthand for the viral moment that reportedly sent Juice=Juice’s name recognition soaring starting late last year, which commenters say also led to appearances on music shows like CDTV. Angerme, meanwhile, is cited as having declined in popularity partly because core members like Murota and Funaki left the group one after another. The thread split over whether to read last year’s CDJ attendance gap as a “real” difference in popularity or as a “temporary” number driven by a handful of specific members’ fans — both sides brought up different metrics, from streaming playback counts to Hina Fes ticket sell-out results, to make their case. It’s also worth noting the point raised that “CDJ isn’t organized by Up-Front Group” — a reminder that the organizers’ own considerations factor into lineup decisions, something that’s easy to overlook.

  • Suzuki Fuku Goes Brunette with a Short Crop for Musical ‘RENT’ — 5ch: ‘Honestly, He’s Gotten a Bit Handsomer’

On October 13, actor Suzuki Fuku posted photos on his Instagram showing off a brunette, short-hair look to match his role as Mark in the musical ‘RENT’. The former child actor known as “Fuku-kun” from shows like ‘Marumo no Okite’ revealed a more grown-up image change, and reactions on 5ch were split. Some praised him, saying “he’s gotten handsome” and “that’s cool,” while others were harsher, calling it “lame” or saying he’s now just “average-looking” — the thread was divided over how to take the gap between this look and his child-star image.

    10/14 (Wed) 14:50

Suzuki Fuku, who plays Mark in the musical ‘RENT’, updated his Instagram on October 13 to reveal a new hairstyle to match the role.

He posted four photos in total. Suzuki styled his hair into a short brown cut and paired a denim jacket and pants with a necklace. The first shot shows him facing forward in sunglasses, the second has him turned to the side. The third shows off his full outfit, and in the fourth he takes off the sunglasses and poses with a peace sign next to a poster for ‘RENT’.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Suzuki Fuku co-starred with Ashida Mana in ‘Marumo no Okite’ and now plays Mark in the musical ‘RENT’. As some commenters note, the production has been staged before, and interest in “what happened next” for former child actors remains strong. The thread’s split wasn’t really about the look itself, but about how to reconcile this more grown-up, brunette-short-hair image with the “Fuku-kun” viewers remember. Positive comments tied the change to his growth and skill as an actor, while critical ones expressed discomfort with the gap from his boyish looks or questioned the direction he’s taking his image. Comments involving insults toward his sister or co-stars’ appearance, sexual remarks, or political labeling have been excluded from this article. Readers should keep in mind that discussions about former child stars’ “now” often invite unrelated attacks or baseless assumptions that have nothing to do with the person himself.

  • Tokyo Police Mistakenly Ticket Drivers for ‘Running a Red Light’ 63 Times at Intersection With No Stop Obligation

It has come to light that, at a signal-less intersection on “Gakuen Chuo Dori” near Hitotsubashi Gakuen Station on the Seibu Railway Tamako Line in Kodaira City, Tokyo, drivers were mistakenly ticketed for “running a red light” — despite there being no stop obligation at that intersection — in 63 cases between May 2024 and July 2026. The Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Commission is correcting the violation points, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) plans to refund the fines collected. At the site, just beyond the signal-less Intersection A lies a railway crossing and a signaled Intersection B, and it appears the traffic light there was installed in a position that made it easy to mistake for the signal governing Intersection A. In a 5ch thread, users debated the layout of the traffic light, stop line, and railway crossing based on photos posted from the scene.

It has emerged that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department mistakenly ticketed drivers at an intersection in Kodaira City, Tokyo, for violating the Road Traffic Act by allegedly running a red light — even though there was no stop obligation at that location to begin with.

The enforcement mistakes numbered 63 cases between May 2024 and July 2026, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Commission has corrected the violation points. The Tokyo MPD will refund the fines paid by the drivers affected.

The mistaken enforcement took place on “Gakuen Chuo Dori,” a road near the north exit of Hitotsubashi Gakuen Station on the Seibu Railway Tamako Line (1-chome, Gakuen Higashi-cho, Kodaira City, Tokyo). Heading from east to west toward the rail line, there is “Intersection A,” with a “stop line” painted just before its crosswalk. Just beyond Intersection A lies a railway crossing.

I mean, the placement of the light here is just terrible
It's actually the signal for the railway crossing and Intersection B beyond it, but to also cover the crossing
it's installed before the crossing rather than inside Intersection B itself

A T-junction is still an intersection

In a situation like this, if the crossing bells are ringing and a few cars are backed up blocking the middle of Intersection A, that's fine, right?

    119AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:30
    Re: #104
    Legally, no, that's not okay
Because if you follow the Road Traffic Act properly, that situation shouldn't arise in the first place
There's only about one car's length (roughly 5m) between Intersection A and the crossing
So if there's already a car ahead, the car behind it must not enter the intersection
(Since the lead car has to stop at the crossing, the car behind would inevitably end up stopped inside the intersection)
    121AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:34
    Re: #119

Intersections without a signal aren't covered by Article 50, Paragraph 1 (the law against entering and blocking an intersection)

The diamond mark before a railway crossing
is a road marking (painted on the pavement) indicating that a "railway crossing ahead" warning sign is nearby.
In Japan, a diamond (◇) shape is sometimes painted on the road surface before a railway crossing. It serves as advance notice meaning "there's a railway crossing ahead, please be careful." It's placed there to prompt drivers to slow down and stay alert early.

There really are differences between prefectures
When I renewed my license, they punched a hole in my current one and told me to keep using that until the new one arrived
Later, before the new license came, I needed to open some kind of account and sent a photo of it as ID
and they told me it was no good because it had a hole punched in it
No way, I said — until the new license arrives and I swap it in, the hole-punched one IS the valid license
Whoever came up with the rule that a hole-punched license is invalid is an idiot who doesn't know what they're talking about
I laid into them pretty hard and argued until they gave in and accepted it

Maybe one of the people who got ticketed worked in law enforcement or the legal field?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Traffic lights are normally installed within or immediately adjacent to the intersection they govern, but the Intersection A at issue here is a signal-less T-junction, and the actual traffic light was installed even farther ahead, just before the railway crossing and Intersection B. It appears to have been placed there to also account for the crossing, but as the exchanges based on on-site photos make clear, the layout was confusing enough that drivers could easily mistake it for the signal governing the near-side intersection. The article doesn’t explain exactly how the Tokyo Police came to notice the mistake, and the thread floated the guess that someone with legal or police knowledge might have been among those ticketed — though that remains pure speculation. At the core of this case is the fact that at spots with complicated rules — like intersections without signals, or the stop obligations tied to railway crossings — misunderstandings can happen not just among ordinary drivers but among the officers enforcing the law. More than just a simple “police mistake,” it’s a case that points to a mismatch between intersection design and how the law gets applied in practice.

  • PS4 Trails Switch by 28 Million Units in Japan — 5ch: ‘You Wouldn’t Notice Unless You Follow the Hardware Wars’

In Japan’s home console market, Nintendo Switch has sold roughly 37 million units domestically, compared to only about 9.5 million units for the PlayStation 4 — meaning most of the worldwide gap between the two (Switch at 155 million vs. PS4 at 115 million in cumulative shipments) effectively comes down to the Japanese market alone. An analysis article built on these numbers was reposted to 5ch’s Hardware/Industry board (known as “Geha”), sparking debate tied to PS5’s ongoing sales slump in Japan. Posters disagreed on the cause, pointing variously to software lineup direction, pricing strategy, and an aging user base.

Even in Japan, to this degree—

This gap arose because Nintendo pushed policies that prioritized the Japanese market. While Sony Group is seen as having scaled back domestic investment, Nintendo kept tirelessly cultivating the Japanese market. The result: roughly 37 million Switch units sold domestically against about 9.5 million for the PS4 — a staggering 28-million-unit gap. Even in cumulative worldwide shipments, Switch’s 155 million dwarfs PS4’s 115 million, and it’s fair to say most of that worldwide gap comes down to who won in Japan. With the current PS5 seeing sales decline even further, at this rate, within roughly just two years of launch, the newer Switch 2

There's probably at least 5 million people in Japan who'll buy a home PlayStation purely because it's a PlayStation.
Though it'll be a disaster for Sony once that crowd finally dies out.

Fewer exclusives, neglecting casual users, the rise of PC gaming.
Neglecting casual users in particular must have really hurt them.
SIE probably figured, 'lol, casuals will just drift off to mobile games anyway, so Nintendo will naturally decline on its own.'

Looking at how badly Switch 2 sales (informal shorthand: "suichitsu") have stalled recently, it really comes down to price, not whether there are good games.
    62AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:36
In the end, PlayStation just failed to cultivate new users and let its user base dwindle.
Then they swapped that story out for 'the future is overseas! Japan doesn't sell and has no growth left,' and dragged third parties along with it.
Basically, they twisted their own sales failure — the handheld strategy flopping — by force into something that sounded legitimate (when really, it just didn't sell).

Nintendo, noticing something was off… never made the mistake of neglecting Japan.

Honestly, if Switch 2 didn't have a Japan-exclusive model, PlayStation probably wouldn't even have thought to make a domestic-specific model, and that would've been the end of it.

No, people were saying like crazy, even before the PS5 launched, that Sony should do priority sales based on PSN purchase history the way they did in other countries.
Sony kept citing some vague legal excuse and put zero restrictions in place, not even at the Sony Store.

People kept saying 'you did it in other countries, so do it in Japan too,' but for two years Sony basically sold in a way that favored scalpers,
and PlayStation's loyal customers got completely fed up and walked away.
That's really the whole reason software sales collapsed so badly.

Yeah, Yasuda definitely isn't biased toward Nintendo.
His 'hardware-driven' theory, which underlies all his console forecasts, ruthlessly denies even Nintendo software's power to drive adoption.
In fact, Switch 2 wasn't blessed with as many first-year launch titles as the original Switch was, yet it's keeping a pace well ahead of Switch's.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The figures behind the article are domestic sales (Switch at roughly 37 million units, PS4 at roughly 9.5 million) and cumulative worldwide shipments (Switch at 155 million, PS4 at 115 million), with the analysis being that most of the gap between the two stems from the sales difference within Japan specifically. On the thread, posters offered several non-converging theories for the cause, including “software lineup direction (dominated by Western titles and free-to-play games),” “pricing strategy (inadequate anti-scalping measures),” and “a fixed, aging user base.” As posts #65 and #72 point out, the methodology behind a separate chart showing overall market share itself rests on assumptions — a reminder to read the numbers underpinning this debate with some caution. The original article, for its part, was published amid an ongoing decline in PS5’s domestic sales, against the backdrop of the newer Switch 2 outselling PS5 at a faster pace.

  • Hello! Project Fans Barely Overlap with Other Idol Groups — 5ch: “Everyone but Juice and Beyoo Is an NPC”

A visualization showing how much fan overlap exists across the Hello! Project lineup went viral on 5ch. Among Hello! Project’s own 8 groups — Morning Musume., ANGERME, Juice=Juice, and the rest — 24 of 28 possible pairings (86%) show shared listenership. But pairings with female idol groups from other agencies hit only 23 out of 152 possible combinations, and most of those were carried by Juice=Juice alone. The thread lit up with the line “everyone except Juice and Beyoo is an NPC” (village extras, i.e. nobodies), and opinion split on how to read the data: are Hello Pro fans just not listening to other idols, or are other fandoms simply not listening to Hello Pro?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

These figures appear to be based on Spotify’s “related artists” feature, which the original poster linked to directly. That feature, however, produces estimates derived from overlapping listening histories and playlists — it isn’t primary data that directly shows whether individual fans are actually listening to both artists. That’s why some in the thread pointed out that “this chart doesn’t tell you which side isn’t listening,” making it premature to conclude that no shared listenership automatically means Hello Pro fans don’t listen to other groups. The fact that the seven groups besides Juice=Juice and Beyooooonds show almost no connections to other agencies’ groups also ties into Hello! Project’s history of building its own distinct fan culture, with some commenters pointing to a fanbase that places unusually heavy weight on musicianship.

Shogi player and investor Kiritani Hiroto, famous as the “master of shareholder perks” who lives off stock dividend-in-kind benefits, revealed his d Points balance on the October 12 broadcast of Nippon TV’s “Getsuyo kara Yofukashi” (Monday Midnight Talk). The thread buzzed with astonishment at just how huge the number was, while many pointed out that since both Rakuten Points and d Points come with monthly spending caps, even a massive stockpile can’t actually be used up all at once. Background and Key Points of This Topic

Kiritani Hiroto is a former professional shogi player turned investor who gained fame on TV starting around 2011 as the “master of shareholder perks” for living entirely off stock dividend-in-kind benefits. d Points is a common point system run by NTT Docomo; like Rakuten Points and PayPay Points, some services impose a monthly cap on how many points can be used, and the thread repeatedly pointed out that this means even a huge balance can’t be spent all at once. Some comments referenced old engagement-trouble anecdotes from the shogi world, but these aren’t personal attacks on Kiritani himself — they’re long-circulated stories from shogi history. Kiritani has also publicly disclosed that he is undergoing cancer treatment, and the broadcast also showed him going to his hospital appointments.

Reminder: even the old folks just called him "Tamori," no honorific, as usual.

He's worth less than Murashige (comedian Yasufumi Murashige), so it's just sad.

Makes you wonder if Rakushingo's whole act is calculated.

    Honestly kind of scary.

There's a memoir where he talks about being bullied by delinquents (DQN types).

Someone like Rakushingo, sure, dropping the honorific is fine.
But if it had been Murashige who said it, that'd be a whole different story.

Well, I obviously wouldn't drop the honorific to their face, but if they're total trash as a person, I'd probably just skip it behind their back.
    57AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:09
He'll probably end up billed as "Rakushingo, member, real name so-and-so" soon enough anyway.
    64AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:10
Top-tier talents and famous people, sure, no honorific needed.
But minor, also-ran talents like Rakushingo-san? You don't get to drop the honorific.

she sees him as some has-been she used to watch on TV back home,
and that's why she dropped the honorific.

    No wonder he's pissed lol

If it's just someone you've watched on TV and never actually met, dropping the honorific is pretty normal.
    71AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:12
If you're in the same industry, you should probably use an honorific.
But if you're just a viewer or a fan, it's fine to skip it.

    Re: #71
You say "same industry," but is he actually still active in it?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Neither Rakushingo’s X post nor the news coverage reveals the female personality’s real name or the exact wording of what she said, and there’s no sign the two have ever interacted directly. This was purely a one-sided reaction to a clipped video from an online show that he happened to watch — not the result of a face-to-face confrontation, a point that’s easy to misread. Within Japan’s entertainment industry and among viewers, referring to someone you’ve never met without an honorific isn’t unusual in itself, and the mixed reactions to this incident stem from differing views on whether dropping the honorific is acceptable — views that shift depending on whether the two parties actually know each other and on their relative fame. Rakushingo has also spoken publicly in the past about being bullied by fellow comedians, and the thread contained both sympathetic comments referencing that history and comments questioning his one-sided outburst of anger.

  • Hideki Takahashi (82): “I Won’t Go Into Stores That Don’t Accept Cash” — 5ch: “What Kind of Store Doesn’t Accept Cash, Anyway?”

Actor Hideki Takahashi (82) revealed at a press conference on the 14th for his new drama that he’s struggling to keep up with digitalization, saying he refuses to enter stores that don’t accept cash and that he’s “suffered through this so many times.” The remark came during a promotional event for a medical drama themed around digital reform, but on 5ch’s “Geinou/Sports News+” board, the discussion spread from doubts over whether cash-free stores actually exist, to questions of why he doesn’t just use a card, to comparisons with China’s rule mandating that stores accept cash.

82-Year-Old Hideki Takahashi Won’t Enter Cash-Free Stores: “I’ve Suffered Through This So Many Times…”

Actor Hideki Takahashi (82) appeared on the 14th in Tokyo at a press conference announcing the production of the TV Asahi Thursday drama “Analog Nurse — What the Heck Is Digital, Anyway?!” (premiering on the 22nd, airing Thursdays at 9:00 PM). He revealed that he’s unable to keep pace with an increasingly digital world.

Written by Miho Nakazono and brought to you by the team behind “Doctor-X” and “The Travel Nurse,” this series serves as the culmination of a trilogy. It’s a “new-era medical revolution drama” in which Akari Nasuda, “the strongest freelance nurse,” uses all five senses to expose the blind spots of the digital age through analog power, in a medical world being pushed toward digital reform.

Japanese banknotes use special washi paper made from materials like mitsumata shrub and Manila hemp, plus cutting-edge features (3D holograms, black watermarks, deep intaglio printing, etc.), making them extremely hard to counterfeit by global standards.

    Re: #77
    Windows 96???

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In Japan too, the number of cashless-only stores has been rising, driven by reasons like streamlining accounting and guarding against robbery — but there’s no law that regulates the act of refusing to accept cash itself, which is a different premise from China’s system, which legally mandates that cash be accepted. On the thread, the discussion centered less on whether Takahashi’s comments were accurate and more on speculation like “someone at his level surely has a credit card,” along with the general impression that cash-free stores tend to just look trendy on the surface. The debate remained split without any real resolution. The thread also didn’t dig deeply into the fact that Japanese banknotes are considered extremely difficult to counterfeit thanks to their washi paper and multiple layers of hologram technology — meaning Japan’s circumstances are fundamentally different from those of countries said to have rushed into cashless systems specifically as an anti-counterfeiting measure.
